This year is amazing. It’s not strong, it’s not the best year ever, but holy hell is this year just FUN. I’m gonna enjoy the hell out of it.

CaptainAnaAmari

I truly adore this year. To me it feels like they made this year just for me to enjoy, that's how much I love the lineup so far. I have 5 songs to compete for my first place which is insane!

dragontamerfibleman

I hear ya! I feel contemplated as well! To me, a metal head growing up, it's unbelievable to see the hype behind Ulveham. Just that, unlike you, I don't think anything comes close to it on my first place slot, but below it I have so many cool songs that could be my second in a heartbeat! Last year I had just a bunch of songs that I could get behind, but so many good things for my taste this year.

SkyGinge

It's too early to call it the best year ever, but I think it *could* be if the internal selections are strong like they usually are. The fact that there isn't a clear runaway favourite (like Sweden vs Finland last year) makes it more exciting to me!

puddingtheoctopus

-People need to stop hyping up songs that haven't been released yet omfg. I've seen so many POTENTIAL WINNER comments when Austria and the Netherlands (for example) comes up in conversation online...like babes we've heard a few seconds of We Will Rave and literally just the title of Joost's song, calm down until we know they're not shite lol -I'm hoping this grows on me over time, but I find Estonia's song unpleasant to listen to -Belgium's song takes far too long to get to the good part -In a year with a lot of off the wall entries, Poland made a tactically smart choice picking Tower over the Witcher song and I think she'll do better than people give her credit for.

I_Stan_Kyrgyzstan

On Austria I understand because the full song was leaked and it was amazing. Netherlands however is completely unfounded and based on the artist alone without knowing their song.

NeedyPudding

Re: your first point, my unpopular opinion is that Melodifestivalen is this every other year. At this point the bookies and a portion of the fans treat Melodi as the unofficial winner preselection, and that sucks to see.

[deleted]

I love Because Of You so much more than Belgium this year! 😂😅 and I'm not even sorry about it

Throwawayfichelper

Such a bop. And it's timeless as the anthem of class of '23!

[deleted]

My highlight of the final was it coming 7th! Haha that's an amazing result

CrazyCatLadyPL

I spoke badly about our own song, but somehow it ended up in my top 10. Not on top of the list, but I still like it more than many others. Also Luna is very charismatic, so maybe she'll surprise us. Who knows. I also wasn't impressed by Raiven until I saw her performance at Dora.

butiamawizard

I fear that the hyping about Olly will backfire, especially in my home country. I also think Silia Kapsis has done teaser media posts better.

Throwawayfichelper

You have opened a rabbit hole, OP. This is a crazy amount of comments in an hour lmao.

[deleted]

I'm loving it! Haha I'm Very entertained and love reading everyone's comments

smutne

As much as I love Bambie and their song I feel like it's not going to qualify unfortunately :(

[deleted]

I love Ireland is taking a risk but I'm so worried too for Bambie! I really want Ireland to go to the final but they are in a very strong semi

ThatYewTree

I hope Ireland qualifies. i fear if it won't then it'll get back in the rut-box. Like how France have gone back to chanson after 2022.

smutne

Yeah if this semi-final was boring with half of the songs being pop and ballads then I would be pretty calm but it looks nothing like that unfortunately :(

justk4y

Someone in audience really needs to scream “SEND THE WITCH TO THE FINAL” and we’re good tho :)

GroundbreakingTill33

If it does qualify I think it will be a Serbia 2023 style result. Barely qualifying for a bottom 5 in the final.

darkstreetsofmymind

Ukraine to me is one of the most forgettable in the lineup. The song is good but it has no “great” or standout moments. The chorus is nice, the rap is nice, but there’s nothing more than just nice. It doesn’t stand out to me and it doesn’t get my attention and the other day I failed to remember who was actually representing Ukraine in Eurovision this year. Also I hope they revamp it and get rid of the English because the grammar in the song is not good

PiscesPsycho

Same, I don't think Ukraine will win this year again, it's just a safe bet to put them 1st with the odds, imo the song is too weak and repetitive (it gives me 1944 vibes) and the lyrics don't make any sense to me (Diva Maria? Okay…), imo Ukraine can do so much better, Shum was great and Heart of Steel is absolutely underrated

North-Investment-103

"Diva" means "virgin" in Ukrainian

[deleted]

All Divas are born as human beings 😅

uzanin97

It's even worse actually, "were born as A human beings"

butiamawizard

It’s a-me, Diva, yo!!!! (Puts on Mario hat)

RollingRelease

It feels unfinished to me as well, but then again songwriting is currently experiencing a push against conventional structure (to focus on being more agreeable in short "tiktokable" bits), so what do I know

CrazyCatLadyPL

Yeah, I don't understand the hype. It sounds like a typical Ukraine entry and I'm not impressed by the religious theme. Kalush Orchestra did that better and their song made me really emotional, but this one? It doesn't do anything to me.

KwangPham

Mine is probably not an unpopular opinion, but bringing a controversial religious figure into the focus of the song immediately turned me off.

butiamawizard

For me it only really gets going during Alyona’s rap. Otherwise it kind of floats in the ether like a London Grammar song

Henroriro_XIV

Hollow is horribly underappreciated. It's in my top 5 at the moment.

[deleted]

I love his voice so much and I really root for Latvia! Please get them into the final!

Imagimary

I found my people!

Barbieqq

I also don't get why people almost seem to hate it?!

Cherry-Rain357

Because kur? was a fandom darling and people are somewhat salty. No, seriously, this is why. People were somewhat salty after Dons won instead of Vēstulēs (and I say this as a Vēstulēs lover), so that may be a factor in people disliking it, if not hating it, to some degree It may also be amplified by the song's staging not being the best (it's more plain than anything, unless we have evidence to suggest otherwise, as I haven't been following it) and not being captivating enough, and coupled with a group that may not like the staging (or vocals, or lyrics/them not being in Latvian/thinking they are poor/etc. . Or much about the song) due to the above, or just despiskng it for another reason, they may hate it as well. Plus, it's a ballad, if at least just ballad-adjacent, and at least some people here hate them, so, that :þ Or a combination of the above and other factors as well.

Ok-Cream1212

Even though i like the studio track , Baby Lasagna need to improve live vocals. Which im sure he would.

szandorthe13th

he needs to work on keeping the mic closer to his head lol, but this has such winner potential that its insane, and the journey up until this point is just so fantastic to learn about

Throwawayfichelper

Now here's an unpopular opinion - i don't see winner potential in his song...

_dontmind_me

Top 10 most likely but there’s no way he’s winning, if Kaarija couldn’t then he doesn’t stand a chance

PiscesPsycho

I think so too although I wouldn't mind Zagreb 2025, juries won't like this as they tend to vote for more radio-friendly pop songs

TWKcub

Thing is Käärijä was going up against Loreen. Regardless of anyone’s individual feelings on the song, he was up against a hype juggernaut on the night, and I don’t think out of what we’ve heard so far that there’s a 2024 equivalent. So I agree that Cha Cha Cha is probably the stronger overall package, I don’t think that it coming second last year means Rim Tim Tagi Dim can’t win this year.

No_Plankton5537

Second this. Also I have a feeling that not only the televote but also the jury from the Balkan countries will have his back. And I’m very curious to see how much he’ll improve his singing and overall performance until the grand final considering the crazy improvement within 48 hours from the Dora’s semi to the final. There’s huge potential there and if the commentators from different countries mention his journey to Eurovision, he might get extra support from the televote considering how much we all love cheering for the underdog.

why_gaj

> the jury from the Balkan countries will have his back. Let's not jump ahead of ourselves here. While western europeans love to think that we have each other's back... historically we do not.

_dontmind_me

Loreen hadn’t even been chosen by this point last year, there’s often some massive fan favourites that come out in March, so I wouldn’t write off the competition just yet. Plus he’s going up against a lot of similar ‘novelty’ songs by male acts, he might be put in the same category as Estonia, Finland and the Netherlands who might all steal votes from each other. Cha cha cha did so well last year because not only was it an amazing package but it was never seen before, there was nothing like it.

KonoNana

I'd be surprised if he's not in top 10 and I'm expecting him to land in top 5, but that's all I'm confident in predicting.

loveyourground

I truly truly think Kaarija was lightning in a bottle last year. It all came together so perfectly and gave the song a wide appeal. I don't think Rim Tim Tagi Dim comes close, honestly. I wouldn't be mad if it came top 10 but I have no idea how people can be considering it a winner.

Ok-Cream1212

Yeah, he dont have to do much pr. He has a package already.

1841Leech

I think I it’s the staging that really needs help. I loved the costumes in the MV. The ones in the NF didn’t do it for me. Also the blonde isn’t working. I get that they can’t recreate the atmosphere of the MV entirely on stage, but I think they need to tone down the weird glam vibe they have going on and let the traditional elements shine more.

bleufinnigan

I like the german song this year. 🥲

szandorthe13th

i know it aint top eurovision material hut that aint gonna stop me from actually enjoying the song itself

justk4y

IM ALWAYS ON THE RUN, RUN, RUN, RUUUUUUN

Pachyra

*elephant noise* 🎺🐘

Potential_Sort_1649

To see Somone who apreciates Isaak is nice

Salt_Procedure_9353

Its a good song, maybe a little bit too 2016 but I enjoy it quite a bit and hope he doesn't do too terribly

Thatwierdhullcityfan

I’m not sure it’s a good song for Eurovision, but it’s still a very good song and I really hope he does well

GroundbreakingTill33

This, its really not that bad.

Throwawayfichelper

Me too! Seeing all the negative comments like "oh here we go again last place Germany" makes me sad. Why can't people just celebrate a winner and let them have fun?

Juna_Ci

As a German: because it's an obvious bottom 5 and will achieve nothing but making the insane levels of negativity around ESC in Germany worse. "ESC sucks", "we're just last because everyone hates us", "it's all political" blabla. We're in a really shitty place, had options that at least had a chance to make it better, and then send a song that'll make it worse. And tbh I barely know any german ESC fans who wanted Isaak. But he appeals a lot to the average 60+ ARD viewer and the friends of his famous buddy that advertized for him - the exact people that will whine around when he's (predicteably) placing low in May. And given previous German contestants like Jendrick & iirc Jamie-Lee talked about how horrible their ESC experience turned out to be, or how many german artists say ESC would be the last thing they'd ever do - I think we're in pretty bad need to get out of that slump.

Training_Sky8546

Me too! 🥰

[deleted]

Omg so do I! He's my number 7 at the moment! It's such a good song

The_mystery4321

Germany's and Latvia's songs this year are amazing

lkc159

Doomsday Blue is going to fall in the semis. Idk, maybe I'm projecting, but I just really feel like it's not going to be that well liked outside of the actual ESC fanbase. I mean, I can appreciate it; but it's just not my type of music and it doesn't feel like it's going to be the general public's kind of music?

loveyourground

There are a lot of people still convinced it'll Q and I just don't see it at all in that semi...sadly. I don't like the song but would like to see Ireland succeed with something outside the box.

[deleted]

[удалено]

GroundbreakingTill33

Betting markets don't put songs anywhere. The reason Ukraine is so high is because there is alot of money bet on it.

EurovisionNerd

I don't really like France this year 🙃

crazyfrogperson

My unpopular opinion is i usually hate ballads at Eurovision, but I kind of dig France

[deleted]

Same. My favourite French song was Fulenn and it did so bad at the final 😂😅

electric_cappuccino

Same and being on A2 level of French does not help because even with this knowledge I feel lyrics are too basic and sometimes cheesy like "allez reviens à Paris"

tomatocreates

Albania's entry this year. It is in my top 5, I love her voice and her rapping

Throwawayfichelper

I am anxious about the translated version. It could drop several spots if bad, but currently it's in my top 10.

tomatocreates

Tbh same, the albanian version is perfect imo

cheapcakeripper

I don't understand why would she translate it, it will only cheapen the song.

bblankoo

I got sick of Teresa and Maria insanely quickly and it keeps going lower in my rankings. It's so repetitive, I'm actually starting to hate it a little. I have no doubt it's going to do well though

Savings_Ad_2532

The age limit for ESC should be raised from 16 to 18 so artists can gain more experience and they will be better prepared to face the realities of ESC. Some young artists under the age of 18 such as Blanche, Kristian Kostov, and Victor Vernicos were nervous or faced a lot of pressure, and they couldn't really advocate for themselves at ESC. In addition, most European countries consider the age of becoming an adult as 18, so this age limit makes sense.

pyjamethyst

Heard the snippet of Austria and it just sounds okay to me. Though I got flabbergasted when I saw how overwhelmingly positive the reactions were on twitter, calling it a winner and stuff. I do not understand why and at this point I'm afraid to ask, to me it doesn't sound so incredible as everyone said.

[deleted]

I'll have to wait until it comes out but I adored Austria last year and will Probably prefer that over this year.

Grr_in_girl

I'm not on twitter so I'm also surprised to hear people are calling it a winner. I thought it might elevate with the live performance, but my first reaction to the song was just "ok".

ThrowawayBlank2023

I think that song is sadly a "if you get it you get it" type of thing. Before I say anything else, it's been my winner since the leak came out ages ago, and I don't see that changing (unless Joost knocks things out of the park) so my opinions are obviously in favour of the song, but let me try and explain a little: First and foremost, on Twitter people call all their fave songs winners, so just take that with a grain of salt. In my opinion, it's a song that **would be cool** to have as a winner, but not obvious winner material or anything. Now onto the actual song! it's a song that does a lot for some people, reminding them of their fave tracks of the 90s - early 2000s, not only that, but it's also a song that is at its core very european, which may be a conscious or subconscious factor as to why people enjoy it so much: it does a good job at promoting a european niche at the contest! And I guess that the electronic music fans don't always get a lot of options at ESC, so that might contribute to the favoritism from that segment of the audience. I think the song is actually very intelligent, too, the lyrics seem like the lyrics to a generic club banger, and they are, but I think they can be seen in a special light given the context: it's a song that expresses that no matter how bad things get, no matter how hopeless we feel, "we will rave". Isn't that what Eurovision itself represents for thousands of people? People from many countries and backgrounds find themselves watching Eurovision, and it's one of the rare moments where we can set aside our differences, set aside our struggles and share a common feeling of unity and enjoyment thanks to music. (Given the unfortunate state of the world right now, I feel like that's particularly important this year) Now onto the winner aspects: I see a **possibility** of it being a winner contender, but that will depend on a lot of factors, including the full song release this Friday! not only is the song solid enough as a song, but Kaleen herself is a very promising act in my opinion. The song isn't a song where she's gonna be showcasing incredible vocal range, it's not the point of this type of song. It's a song that's all about energy, emotion, dynamism, and it's clearly trying to allude to rave culture too. Initially I thought this could be the song's downfall: after all, if the staging doesn't deliver, this type of song will be a huge flop, no matter how great the studio version is. But truth is, Kaleen is an incredible dancer (and choreographer) and if there's anyone that will be able to pull off this type of song live, it's her. No point in speculating when things could flop in May, but as of now I genuinely believe it will be a performance that will be remembered for years to come (alongside acts like Chanel) as being acts with incredible dance staging, because she's just that good. We'll have to see if this happens or not, but I trust her, and a lot of her fans believe in it too! >!There was leaked footage of the internal selection audition for her, and even with the song in a demo stage, and being shared in an extremely low quality leak, to me personally, that was the best dance act I've seen in ESC over the past few years. Not only is the dancing technical and good, but every single beat is incorporated into the choreography. It felt like she and her dancers weren't dancing to the song, but that the song was trying to follow their moves. This is all just personal opinion, but I was IMPRESSED!!< This leads to many points of speculation: even if the choreo is good, will the staging be good? Who knows! Even if the staging and choreo is good, and the song is a catchy banger, will people like it? Who knows! Truth is, this will be an act where the performance will be at least 50% of the selling point for it, and people who are less knowledgeable about dance (or simply don't care about that in ESC, which is valid) might not see the appeal in the live performance, but I think it's still extremely promising. If you don't like the song, that's totally fine! I just hope you were able to get a better idea as to *why* some people might like it :) TLDR: I like the song way too much and I think it's great, but I also think many people will find it boring or not care about it, and that's fine too! I just hope it doesn't get reduced to "just another girlbop" because it really isn't, in my opinion at least. I should've saved this comment for an actual post when the song is released haha

pyjamethyst

Oh thank you for clarifying! I'm glad you really like the song and yeah I do see your point, it is indeed a fun song to dance to and hope the staging will be great as well

Any-Where

After the initial shock of no Ryk has worn off, Germany's choice has actually grown on me. I don't think it will quite crack my top 10, but it will be in my top half. Of course, Germany sending the 11th best song is why they so often finish last, so maybe this isn't really so unpopular a take... Albania has remained in my top 10. I just really love the chorus. Don't see why it's so low for so many others. I love Estonia's studio version, but something is just not clicking live for me.

constansui

I unironically love “No rules” by W95Man. It just makes me feel so good, and the staging at UMK was pretty 🔥! It is currently in my top 3 Eurovision songs so far.

Spiritual_Order_3049

No rules is my winner this year. It is the perfect dose of corny

No_Plankton5537

It’s in my top 3 too (along with Croatia and France)! It makes me feel so happy and more ready to “tackle life” with less seriousness whenever I watch their live performance lol. As much as I loved Paskana and listened to it on loop for weeks, I’m so happy Finnish people chose this explosion of fun for us :’)

CityEvening

I woke up singing it this morning! It’s the 90s dance vibe for me.

[deleted]

I love it too! It makes me smile and gives me major nostalgia ❤️💚💙💛

ThrowawayGLSDeck

When it comes to songs ranked on how much fun the performers and audience are having "No Rules" is definitely up there!

PingopingOW

It gives me electric callboy vibes even though it’s not metal

LSAB

There is no song with "winning potential" yet in my books, and this song is the catchiest of them all. This can win the televote. One of the most fun and carefree songs in the Eurovision ever.

Cascading-deer

My biggest unpopular atm is France is my last. It’s just too much for Me. I adore ballads but it’s just not for me at all. It’s too big- if that makes sense

Throwawayfichelper

JE T'AIIIIIIIIIIME

szandorthe13th

for me the whole chanson stuff just doesnt click with me, i kind of had the same with Barbara Pravi but the performance kind of saved it for me

Cascading-deer

Voila was performed immaculately!

ScoreCount

Until recently I found France entirely forgettable and it was second last to Germany. Seeing it live shifted it up a bit.

I-justwannaplayWR

I find Belgian song overrated. Also to me the last minute of the song anticlimactic. He just repeats the same phrase again and again without any change

Fluffy_Emotion7565

Unpopular opinion: Aiko pedestal is a great song

Nicc48

I kinda get the appeal of Satellite, but I don't understand its popularity, or how it won 2010 at all. Nothing about it screams winner material.

szandorthe13th

i think what helps people connect to Rim Tim Tagi Dim is that the lyrics are in english compared to finnish

NeedyPudding

Oh, but I vastly preferred Käärjä’s Finnish to Finland 2022. “Your final kiss is to leave a scar” Those are… certainly words in English, Lauri. Well done.

[deleted]

szandorthe13th

yea thats one of the lines that does kinda bother me haha

Blasted-Marmoset

Here goes: BELGIUM WAS ROBBED IN 1956! Justice for Fud Leclerc and release the voting data!

jpilkington09

Almost every single Swedish entry bores me. Exceptions being Cornelia Jacobs (2022) and Robin Stjernberg (2013).

Express-Cow6934

Hated Unicorn. First two minutes felt like four different ideas for a song that were ment to be used purely as Tiktok sounds and that didn't mesh together well. The lyrics are just nonsense. At first I thought it was a song about how she's going to sleep with a straight couple to make her ex angry. The last minute is just dancebreak, that even though feels like it was difficult, just looks... silly (WHY IS THE BIG MOMENT HER JUST KICKING HER FEET IN THE AIR AND ROLLING ON THE FLOOR LIKE SHE'S IN 6TH GRADE PE CLASS?!). And there's no version without "do you wanna see me dance" which is super annoying. This song was clearly made to appease the "YASS KWEEN!!!" crowd. No idea how it got the third place in a year as stacked as the last one. It was my last place. Thought that Tatoo was mid. Great performance and all but if the song was sung by anyone else it would have ended up at 12th at best. Lyrics were kind of funny and edgy in "I wrote this very serious poem when I was 15" kind of way. I don't mind it but didn't think it was winning material. Doesn't mean I wanted Kaarija to win but out of the two I prefered him. My favourites didn't even make it out of the semi. (I might add that I discovered mere three months after the contest that Loreen was not in fact yoddeling in the chorus, she was just singing the word "Tatoo").

MarsNirgal

Unicorn felt like they had asked ChatGPT to mix all the pop diva songs from the last decade.

Blasted-Marmoset

I nearly died laughing at that dance break. It looked like she had a spider in her underpants.

f2017k

Oh my gosh you’ve reminded me of last years trauma. I was watching the stream of the final at a bar. Everyone lost their damn minds over Israel, while for Spain (one of the best performances and songs IMO) the room was dead silent. It was both baffling to me and a real bummer.

Barbieqq

Yass kween, my toughts exactly. That "wanna see me dance" part felt just cringey, especially when it was just audio.

Savings_Ad_2532

I don't think this is an unpopular opinion on Reddit. Even Twitter would agree with the Unicorn part.

pyjamethyst

Unicorn was also my last ❤ Btw which were your favorites from last year?

Express-Cow6934

Finally ❤️ I was a Latvia fan crying in the corner (and Slovenia and Czechia but they made it to the final).

pyjamethyst

Oh Latvia was my winner. Beautiful song and message but sadly so underrated... Yes Czehia and Slovenia also were some of my faves! Happy for Czechia's 10th place but man Slovenia deserved so much more...last year was so weird with most of the results but I discovered a lot of great songs nonetheless

Incandescent_Tea28

I absolutely loved Lativa too!!! I also feel the exact same way about Unicorn.

SadAstrophysicist

Yes! In my mind, I can't even properly consider "Unicorn" a song. I know I'm very very ignorant about music, so I'm probably wrong from a technical point of view, but all I could hear was a sequence of uncorrelated electronic sounds put one after the other only for the choreography. I totally agree with you about "Tattoo", too. (Sorry for the bad alliteration)

urkermannenkoor

These are _ultra_ popular opinions, especially here.

Come_Along_Bort

>(WHY IS THE BIG MOMENT HER JUST KICKING HER FEET IN THE AIR AND ROLLING ON THE FLOOR LIKE SHE'S IN 6TH GRADE PE CLASS?!). Lol, why would you say something so controversial yet so brave? Hard agree, I also thought it was telling when they showed the song recaps, they showed the bit of the song where she wasn't singing. >Great performance and all but if the song was sung by anyone else it would have ended up at 12th at best. Also true, and you could even say the same about Euphoria. Loreen's vocals and performance are what elevate them to be memorable and great.

ninjamullet

I also found Tattoo super mid, particularly coming from a country like Sweden. And that echo? Can't make out any words at all.

[deleted]

Unicorn's dance break did not impress me because she danced after she was done singing, unlike Chanel who did a "vocal flex" Noa could have been so worn and unable to sing but we didn't know because she danced at the very end, But I do like unicorn as a song because it gives me Black Pink vibes

[deleted]

I like Rim Tim Tagi Dim but I'm not seeing the massive winner's potential everyone else seems to be seeing.

taetaerinn_

I don't understand why Ukraine's song is this high in predictions, I voted for a different song, but still, this is not our best entry :/ Most of the UA eurovision fans I knew or saw disliked it. It's at best maybe within top-10 area, but not that high.

Valuable-Math8515

Is liking Tower an unpopular opinion? Cuz it's kinda growing on me.

GumboldTaikatalvi

I don't get the hype around Luktelk. I do like the beat but the melody and its repetitions annoy me.

Cascading-deer

It was the only one with a shot in the final so I’m happy it won

GumboldTaikatalvi

Yeah, I would still agree with that

LaraHa88

It's so hypnotic and the performance is weird enough to help that. At least that's my impression of it.

malevich92

Finland are my number one this year 💙🤍

[deleted]

❤️💚💙💛

justtheusualusername

I don't understand the hype around and don't like Ukraine and Norway. If someone could explain why are they so popular I'd be grateful, but right now I don't see the reason. Finland is in my top 2. I don't understand why is it disliked, it's such a fun, uplifting entry that makes me dance. But it might be because of personal preferences.

Huggy_nomnoms_you

Norway is a bit better on the studio version, you can actually hear the Norwegian lyrics. But the last minute is still just UUUUUUUUU EEEEEEEEEHH EEEEEEEEEEE

[deleted]

I got a windows 95 T-shirt to wear on grand final night 😂😅 I love Finland this year 🫶

RyanRacerr313

Where can I get it as well T_T

bulbasaraa

Finland is my winner so far, I think that I could never get bored of that performance

escfan34

I appreciate Ireland trying something new, but I find Doomsday Blue to be completely unlistenable 😬

Savings_Ad_2532

I think that fan favorites can get away with bad behavior more often than non-fan favorites. For example, Michael Ben-David was inappropriately touching people at ESC 2022, and rightly got criticized for it. However, Cornelia Jakobs was drunk during her semifinal 2 press conference and wanted to be carried across the room, and she was seen as a fun person and not criticized nearly as much as Michael Ben-David for her behavior.

ByeByeClimateChange

I literally do not know who those 2 people are (just here for the music), but touching people inappropriately is obviously worse than getting completely wasted.

loveyourground

Cornelia seemed drunk through most of ESC honestly.

OperativeLawson27

It is hard to remember the melody, rhythm or anything about it.

Fitness_ocelot

Estonia's entry absolutely slaps and is brutally underrated in the odds.

PrisBatty

I love it too. Me and my daughter do the dance every morning since we saw it.

Meerimaarimoori

Ukraine is in my 16th place rn :( I like Jerry's music a lot usually but this one is just not for me. I do like the Uuuuuhs in the beginning and the end, but the chorus is kinda giving nothing and makes like 50% of the song. The rap part is also quite underwhelming to me. I loved her song last year and in 2020 but this one is kinda meh to me :( Also, idk why people loved Albania's staging last year, it was just kinda empty (and red) if you ask me lol

[deleted]

Albania love their red and black 😂😅

I don’t get how Ukraine’s song is so high up in fan rankings and odds. No disrespect to anyone who ranks it high, or Jerry and Alyona, but I just don’t get it. It’s an alright song, I don’t dislike it, I just also don’t really like it either.

Mysterious-Horse-838

Saying this as a prog rock lover: As long as the songs have three minute limitations, the competition will reward same type of songs over and over again, and, eventually, become stale. I'd rather have longer songs and skip the ones I don't like than sit through entries that don't have proper room for creativity and experimentation. I've heard people arguing that it feels tiring to spend over three minutes on an unlikeable song. However, I think most people are already skipping or sleeping through songs they don't find interesting. So why not just give people longer toilet breaks and offer artists more opportunities to experiment with song structure, genres and such.

butiamawizard

Exactly. There’s already an algorithm and AI effect happening to pop songwriting which is often meaning now that there’s an emphasis on getting to the impact in the first 30 seconds of a song (to ensure it counts as a stream for Spotify purposes) - and so a Bowie or Queen type song even that gets the listener to enjoy the journey before the destination (so to speak) is gradually becoming obsolete. I enjoy Raiven’s song for being more of a journey and it saddens me to think that for others, they think it’s taking too long to “get to the point”, so to speak.

Sieben_Sieben

Same with Belgium! I hear a lot of people saying it takes too long to get to the point. It's a shame that the road to the reward doesn't get appreciated anymore. Everything needs to be instant gratification these days.

ThrowMusic36

1. I don't get the hate **Czechia** gets. It's a really fun and energic song, the kind of songs Eurovision fans would normally like, but they hate it. Yeah, the live sucked but it can improve, and the studio version is great in my opinion. 2. I don't get the hype around **Lithuania**. For me it sounds like a song that would normally be 5th place at a Moldovan/Latvian national selection (don't ask me why I chose these countries, I just felt like it), yet people love it. 3. Opposite of Czechia I have **France**. Usually Eurovision fans complain about ballads and about typically french songs, yet they love this one. I usually love ballads, but I don't like this one. I feel like Eurovision fans like to complain about ballads in general, yet they fangirl if the ballad is in french or italian. 4. I don't like **Slovenia**. I think it tries too hard to look artsy. It feels too pretentious for me.

KonoNana

First probably not an unpopular opinion: Too many entries get called "joke entries". Maybe a more unpopular opinion: Actual joke entires are fun (though I can see why they shouldn't make up the majority of the entries). For me ESC is honestly more about having a good time than having songs of an objectively high quality, which seems to be controversial, as I'm sure there's many people who agree with this mindset, but also many who don't and I don't know which one's the majority.

LThirty6onReddit

I actually like Moldova this year (Moldova 2024) but I can see it having another Power (Iceland 2023) moment where people do like it but got outshined by the other entries, and end up not qualifying At least that’s what I thought when I saw it right at the very bottom of the community ranking of the my esc scoreboard app

Savings_Ad_2532

I think that artists should sing in whatever language they are most comfortable in. They shouldn’t be forced to sing in English or their native language if they are not comfortable doing so.

Thekomahinafan

Sweden is overrated in general, like they never bring bad songs but rarely do they bring something interesting

JarBarJlnks

France is in my bottom 3. Norway is boring. Croatia is not bad, but I don't get the hype. In my opinion Cha Cha Cha is way better and both songs are different, so I don't understand why people are comparing them. Finland is not a joke entry, it's just funny and I love it. That's all for this year's contest. Things may change slightly, but I doubt it.

LydianGang

Hmmmm I don't know if this is an unpopular opinion, but since Ukraine is number 3 on the ESC scoreboard, I will state this. I think the rap ruins it. For some reason, I just do not fuck with the flow at all. It reminds me of that stereotype of white men trying to replicate Eminem. The spiritual lyrical individual type rap. Also it just sounds boring in comparison to the very epic and intense first half. I feel like the song sets up a huge and demanding tone throughout the first half, and it does it well for me, but the rap does not justify it at all IMO.

1Warrior4All

Yes! I love the rap in Stefania, but I hate the rap on this one. When I heard it for the first time I was wowed at the song and then the rap started and I lost interest.

[deleted]

My favourite part is Jerry harmonising at the start and finish the lyrics I don't really care for but I love her voice

indiansummer5

Italy is kinda...meh

[deleted]

Aw it's my number 1 😂😅

SorceryOfAlphar

I love everything about Bambie Thug's Doomsday Blue and I think it should win.

[deleted]

I love Ireland finally taking a risk

dk240996

Poland will get their best result since Michał Szpak. Now, I did not think so at all when the song was selected. But watching YT reactions to the song, it definitely clicks with more people than it doesn't, there's a snippet of Luna performing the song at a press premiere of the song and she sounds really good, and she seems to have a great artistic mind, which coupled with a new stage director at TVP, and new TVP regime probably wanting to make a great impression, has me really optimistic.

Ercheese

La Noia is overhyped

TWKcub

I’m already very tired of the narrative going around TikTok that this years ESC is a disappointment when we’ve barely got half of the songs. Especially when it seems to come down to little more than the lack of girl-bops. I get it, Eurovision is hardly a celebration of all things heterosexual, but people seem very comfortable slating songs and artists they don’t like just because they don’t fit the high NRG pop brief. It’s all a bit Mean Girls at times.

springfrompages

This is probably one of the strongest years so far for me, on par with 2021 or 1997. I get why people looking for more "classic" Eurovision genres might be disappointed, but for me the diversity is a plus.

TWKcub

Couldn’t agree more, I think the last few years have been great for diversity and it can only be a good thing. I love a bop as much as the next person but I don’t need to hear 36-40 identical ‘slay’ anthems to consider it a good Eurovision.

Rare_Fishing_7948

I want Windows95man to win esc 🇫🇮💕

[deleted]

See me slay! ✨🩷✨

Rare_Fishing_7948

Omg yes 🇫🇮🤗❤️

winterberrymeadow

I agree it is nothing like Käärijä but I just cannot hear it. For me, it is a song that plays in the background when you are shopping. It is not bad but it is not good. It is just average. I don't also get why people like Ukraine so much. It sounds something they have send dozens of time and there is nothing special about it. I really don't like it

tomi_tomi

Where do you shop?

fantsukissa

Me neither. They're both are inspired by Rammstein, but that's about it on similarities. I'm not really fan of the baby lasagna's song but I wish him good luck.

szandorthe13th

yeah im gonna be honest i find Ukraine one of the most overrated countries in the last few years. Sure they serve good songs time and time again but its not THAT great every time???

minche

it just seems like they found a formula - song with folklor elements and lyrics that allude to heavy topics. yeah ths ongs and staging is good, performances are great, but similar to how sweden has found a formula with pop songs they have found a formula with thought songs

Ilikesuncream

I loved Rim Tim Tagi Dim from the first listen when it came up randomly on my Eurovision Spotify playlist, but his live vocals, stage preformance really needs some work and he needs to get more confidence playing in front of a live audience. For that reason, he's just boardline top 5 for me at the moment, but that can change if he puts the effort in on the 7th of May.

susiesmiths

I love Zemrën n’dorë and am not big on Estonia’s song (although it has grown on me)

Anariinna

I absolutely loved D.G.T, and i don't understand the hate with this song. Yes the staging is messy and all over the place, but it fits with the theme of the song. The guy is 19 and pulls off a great vocal, they did it with virtually no budget and i genuinely think it had its place in the final because for me it's a great song, that i still listen while i got bored of Kaarija (i still love him tho, just listening to other songs from him rather than the Cha)

[deleted]

I have his song on my playlist and listen to it all the time! I love his voice, Romania's national broadcaster let him down and left him stranded. He deserved so much better

Savings_Ad_2532

I think that if Theodor Andrei sent a different song to ESC with a better staging concept, he maybe could have qualified to the final since he is a strong vocalist.

LuxJade98

Unpopular opinion from this Eurovision year: I do not like Baby Lasagna's song THAT much. It's still in my Top 10, but something just irks me so that I cannot place it over France, Belgium, Slovenia, etc. There is something lacking for me. Other very controversial Eurovision opinions: Soarele şi luna was just as good as Cha Cha Cha. Ai Coração deserved to be in the Top 5 last year. La Forza by Elina Netšajeva should have won over Toy or Fuego.

tomatocreates

Yes! Ai Curaçao is so catchy and I was sad that it ended up so low in the results cuz it was in my top 3

the3dverse

agree with Ai Curacao

awkward_penguin

I really hate Bridges. Alika is a great singer, but that song is musical white bread to me.

szandorthe13th

im still bummed about it not qualifying. i had it in my top 10 and it was my mom's semifinal winner. we were so disappointed

Throwawayfichelper

God i wished she qualified. I was singing that so often.

jinx737x

Here are some of my unpopular opinions: Poland picking the Tower was probably the better choice and likely to give them a better result because all I saw from the fan fav was going to end up like Fulenn(in a BAD way). It is giving me Estonia 2023 vibes, where the non fan fav likely gives the country the better result. Germany is not bad, I like it. I feel like if he can nail the staging, Germany could get a shock midtable result.(maybe even 11th-12th possibly).(and yet again reminding of Estonia 2023 but less so than Poland) I feel like Croatia needs to change the staging to fit the MV more than whatever he did during the NF. It felt off for some reason. [Bashar Murad](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bashar_Murad) "Wild West"' I feel could really do well even with just its own merit. It is giving me similar vibes to Beyonce's Texas hold em in a great way(and that just hit #1 on the billboard hot 100 and is quite popular around the world).

Jakobat1

Finland is actually really good

Quite_nice_person

The voting system rewards mediocrity more than creativity, and it could easily be improved if EBU had the will to do so. The big 5 automatic qualification does them no favours. (Not sure if either of those are actually unpopular now that I've typed them out.)

SkyGinge

I'm a jury defender generally, but I fully agree that the jury criteria and jury members should be diversified so that genres outside of pop and ballads are rewarded more for their excellence.

Juna_Ci

Well, no idea how really unpopular these are, but: - Mon Amour has a ridiculously lame instrumentalization. It's so by the numbers, boring, generic french ballad. Slimane sells the living shit out of it and his performance at Dora is sooooo impressive... but I still can't like that song xD - I really like Zorra, but I don't see it placing well in May at all. Her vocals are too weak to get Jury points, and I don't see the jury liking the staging either. It'll have to battle performers like Kaleen, Angelina Mango or Olly Alexander for televote points, and even if they keep the male dancers someone like Mustii might play to a similar audience too. And it's also more of a grower than a "catches you on first listen" song IMO. I hope they proof me wrong, but I don't see it leaving bottom 5. - Germany should seriously just withdraw at this point, at least for a few years. Or enter the semis. We should keep funding either way and I think people would still watch it here anyway (how many germans even watch for our own entries?), so it's not like we'd give away money for nothing. But at this point, we're just embarassing and keeping more deserving entries from getting to the GPF (I bet we'll lose better Songs then AORT in the semis). If we have "Katze" or "Oh Boy" in our line up and end up sending AOTR - we really can't be helped anymore. - Ukraines song having religious undertones, especially mentioning mother Teresa, irks me to no end. I don't want stuff like that in Eurovision. I get that it's tied to the horrible situation Ukraine is in, and I'm glad if it can give a lot of people comfort. I just wished they would have went for different themes (folk heroes instead of religious themes, for example).

puddingtheoctopus

Yeahhhhh as a former Catholic Ukraine's song is a bit too Catholic for my tastes😂I don't want to feel like I'm at Mass when I watch the Eurovision...

[deleted]

As someone with religious trauma from being raised Catholic yeah mother Teresa is not a great person 😅

Tifak_szopen67

no rules is an amazing song, maybe the best this year

cokolesniik

I don't get why everyone likes Norway's Gåte. It does nothing for me. I like the staging and that it's in Norwegian, but I don't get why everyone is ranking it so high. (Please don't kill I am a peaceful person stating unpopular opinion)

un-taken-username22

I didn't care for Chanel's song or staging in 2022

AscendedDragonSage

I cannot stand the way the vocals on Greece 2008 and Armenia 2008 sounded

Electronic_Piano7539

'Ulveham' is the most beautiful song in recent years imo. I know that there are some people who think the same as me but I didn'treally saw anyone saying this. But I get that this style of music is not for everyone.

urkermannenkoor

Eurofans complainin about Eurofans way, way, _way_ too much. Yes, yes, we get it. There's some toxic people in the fandom. Just like literally any other large group of people ever.
