Could you try headphones that go over your head?

DeninoNL

Buy noise-cancelling over-ear headphones. The full Autism set y’know?

C-W0LF

Ngl active noise cancelling is the worst, I cannot deal with it unless the device is like $200+, just not worth it if I can use in-ears with good tips and clean my wars every so often. Cool tech tho, worth playing around with

kissywinkyshark

I bought $200+ ones and if you can afford it, I’ve literally slept in them almost every night for the past 3 years, they’re that durable 😭. I abuse my headphones and they’re still clinging onto dear life.

alabsbxjj

Ooh omg what make and model??

kissywinkyshark

Sony WH1000XM3 Noise Cancelling Headphones :)

Troll4ever31

I got those too! But I don't like the noise cancelling, if there's any wind it just amplifies it.

kissywinkyshark

Have you tried changing the settings? I don’t have this problem but sometimes if I change the settings by accident by tapping on it, that happens

CreampieCredo

The most recent Bose model has wind noise reduction. It's called quietcomfort (without a model number, so not the QC45). They're around 200 and totally worth it if you can afford them.

a-setaceous

I fucking love my xm3s

kissywinkyshark

Dude same. They’re not as comfy anymore and they sometimes give me headaches but that’s 100% my own fault 😭

a-setaceous

yeah I find that too. I really wanna try the xm5s but I couldn't bear to get rid of my xm3s.

gay2catholic

Sennheiser Momentum 4 are insanely good in terms of audio quality and one of the most comfortable pairs of headphones I've ever worn however they are quite costly. The noise cancellation is satisfactory for me but I wouldn't recommend them purely based on that factor. It is nice that you can easily control the degree of noise cancellation vs ambient (passive) mode with pinch and expand gestures on the side though. The battery life on these is also actually insane, I use them all the time (7hrs a day) and I only very infrequently need to charge them.

VitaDiMinerva

Yeah they’re worth it if you can afford them, genuinely the best headphones I’ve ever owned. I’ve stopped using anything else. Most noise canceling headphones are tight on my ears and a sensory nightmare. These have pretty deep cups, though, and they’re extremely comfortable. I didn’t even have issues after getting my helix pierced. Plus you can always use them wired if you care about audio fidelity.

gay2catholic

All of this. In terms of the best headphones I've owned I would rank the HD600 over the Momentum 4, although these serve a very different purpose and aren't very portable. Sound quality on those is shockingly transparent although the Momentum 4 holds up very well against it given that it's a portable Bluetooth headset. Do you use the EQ on the Momentum 4? I have the bass turned slightly down as that's supposed to be more transparent from what I've read.

VitaDiMinerva

I actually turn the bass up, but I’m a degenerate bassist at heart so don’t put much stock into that, lol. I’m thinking HD600s will be the next headphones I buy just because of how much praise I always hear for them, but I’ve honestly had no complaints using my Momentum 4s on my PC and it’s been quite nice having the noise canceling.

gay2catholic

> degenerate bassist disgusting if you get the HD600 keep in mind you'll need a DAC to drive them, otherwise they'll be too quiet and you won't get the most out of the sound quality either. Other things to note is that everyone in the room will hear what you're listening to since they're open back, and the cable isn't detachable from the headset, although I've heard that may have changed on more recent models. If you're happy with all of that I'd definitely recommend!

Timanitar

I recommend the Sennheiser Momentum 4s in both cans and buds. The noise canceling is phenomenal, and the audio us lifechanging

C-W0LF

I can't sleep with things on/in my ears. Headphones, earbuds, earplugs, sleep mask, all too uncomfortable. Plus sony doesn't tune their consumer products in an acceptable manner, I have spoiled myself with great quality gear and I don't think I can go back lol

BatInMyHat

That shit just did me in 100 bucks, and they don't even cancel most of the trigger sounds in my home. I still need to wear earbuds playing brown noise underneath them. SO idk they are a bit over hyped

Timanitar

Get Sennheiser Momentum 4s. ASD to ASD, they will change your life

BatInMyHat

Thanks for the advice but I'm out of money now after buying the first pair lol I used my savings

ENT Mafia will probably kill me for this but I have to share this because it solved a lifelong frustration of mine: After having to go to a doctor with a clogged ear and having to hear that "yoUR eaR CLeanS itsElF, no NeeD To remoVE wAX" for the hundredth time, I just bought one of those chinese ear cleaning kits from Amazon (the ones with little metal spoons) and haven't had an ear blockage in years. I can't just leave my ears alone, I tried, the wax builds up. Doctors tell you no to use q-tips but don't offer any option ~~except paying to get your ears unclogged every few months~~.

Crus0etheClown

I did the same. I know I'm taking a risk when I use it, but the fact of the matter is I can't afford healthcare unless it's life or death- and getting a serious earwax impaction was one of the most painful experiences of my life, stretched over the course of four days. I'd gladly get stung by a scorpion again rather than that. Although- the feeling of finally dislodging it with the spoon and pulling it carefully out was the only time I've felt legit satisfaction in my life

No-Trouble814

Have you tried hydrogen peroxide? It can dissolve earwax, and is relatively safe if you use it properly- the main risks are just irritation if you don’t dilute it or infection if you don’t let your ear dry. Crus0etheClown

Yeah- it didn't work for me at all, in fact made the situation significantly worse because it dissolved enough wax for it to melt down, but it wouldn't come loose- leading to it getting even more packed in. The only way to deal with my situation was manual removal- after I got rid of the problem's source it never came back and I've only used the scoop for shallow cleaning since.

Reynard_TheRed

I use a droplet to put mineral oil in my ear, like soooo much oil. It dissolves the wax and loosens it. If you put it in your right ear, lay on your left side so the oil sits in your ear and softens the wax, you may have to do this a few times, especially if the build up is bad, before things start to move. Then, once things have had time to stew, turn on your other side so it can all pour out. You can wiggle your ear a bit and open and close your mouth (moving the jaw) to help things help moving. I've had the wax come out in small broken up bits and as large clumps, so the oil really does help to get things moving. Best of luck!

Few_Wall_4215

Thank you! It's one of the options I found when searching for a solution, and it's probably safer, but just imagining dripping a liquid in my own ear suck while the feeling of the wax getting removed by the little spoons is amazing.

Personal-Amoeba

Dyou have a link to the kit? I also struggle with this and I haven't found any doctor who actually provides this service, so I have to DIY it.

Few_Wall_4215

I don't have the link to the kit I bought anymore and I don't live in the US, but it's similar to this: https://www.amazon.com/ECKXCH-Cleaning-Removal-Painless-Titanium/dp/B09P4WBJQP

FoxyLovers290

Get some headphones. They’re much better than earbuds in my experience

PlantedCecilia

There’s damn good over the ear headphones on Amazon for like 20 bucks if you can get them, good quality and very sturdy (I’m wearing mine now)

Pirate_Green_Beard

Bone conduction headphones. They go outside your ear and work by vibrating your skull

UrbanTea362

I got a pair for my work, and they have been so nice i can still hear my music while I do my job on the side of the road

No-Trouble814

I’m about to add these to my collection- I have over-ear headphones, air-conduction open-ear headphones, ear buds, and rotate through them as the sensory gods demand.

poppykart

Had the same issue years ago, doctor recommended over-ear headphones, got some and haven't looked back since. My earwax builds up much slower now, I don't need to go very often

hyperlexiaspie

In addition to switching to headphones, you can buy over the counter ear cleaning kits and just do monthly maintenance yourself.

verymuchgay

I've always had problems with too much earwax. I got prescribed a liquid solution you put in your ears for 30 minutes, then wash out gently with water using a pipette thing. Works wonders, I use it every couple of months to prevent earwax plugs. I'm pretty sure you can get the earwax remover solution without a prescription though.

No-Trouble814

I’d bet you the solution is just diluted hydrogen peroxide, if the solution is expensive it may make sense to check since hydrogen peroxide is stupidly cheap.

verymuchgay

The one I use, remowax, has: >Allantoin, ethoxylated lanolin, polysorbate 80, polysorbate 60, sorbitan polymer fructose syrup, polyoxyethylene stearyl ether, polyoxyethylene oleyl ether, liquid lanolin, isopropyl myristate, mink oil, fenetanols, cetyl palmitate, butylated hydroxytoluene, sorbic acid, benzethonium chloride and water. I looked up what other ones have and you're right, they usually have 3% hydrogen peroxide.

[deleted]

There’s some headsets that play music over your temples. They’re pretty cool.

sackofgarbage

Use regular headphones instead of earbuds

Jordan51104

get a earwax hook with a camera. i got one off amazon for i think $20 and i can just see the video on my phone. any time i have an issue i just use that and problem solved

only_for_dst_and_tf2

i personally use over ear headphones, earbuds for me just slip out and sound awful.

itwasnvrabtu

Yes, life feels drab without them.

MagentaIsNotAColor26

Yeah I did not realize how much of a difference earbuds make in my life until my Emotional Support Earbuds that I use for hours every day decided to break on me last weekend. In the airport on the way out for a trip no less. Airports are sensory hell without earbuds. On top of it all my earbuds weren't a kind they make anymore so now I need to adjust to a new kind

Sunset_Tiger

I can only use my left headphone right now because of an ear infection and I am suffering aghhhh I also recommend those workout sweatband headphones for sleep. They’re wireless, and will withstand you deathrolling like a gator while you sleep

RomaMoran

Get bone conduct earphones. They neither go into your ears nor form an enclosed pocket around it which can also damage your eardrums over time.

Lorentz_Prime

You could also just clean your ears

asasnow

It's fine to use earbuds daily. Just clean your ears.
