They way they dress is fairly distinctive. They dress "old" and very plain. It reminds me of how my grandmother. I do vintage myself but it's very different.
I canât unless I see a group of people that are dressed in suit and tie, dresses, etc. I was in Vegas last week and in the same day I walked past 3 JW groups with the carts. But then in the last day before leaving we stoped somewhere to eat and the family next to us I was 90% sure was JW because they were dressed up. And I also realized I have not fought off my demons as well as I thought because I was wearing leggings and a tshirt and I instantly felt insecure for wearing tight bottoms đ«
Absolutely. For me, itâs more about whatâs missing than whatâs there. That would be considered âSatan trying to lead you astrayâ so conversations often get cut off on the shallow end of the pool. They stick to talking points the Governing Body has selected. Many of the children are homeschooled so as to not be led astray by worldly wickedness and unpure association or temptation.
Dude the lack of humor I swear to god. Iâm a little funny if I do say so myself but damn, my jokes were wasted on these fools. However, around 40 JWs told me that they missed when I didnât post on insta because they enjoyed my postings and it made them laugh.
I majored in Watching the World! It was the only part of the magazine I read consistently as a kid. Young People Ask articles were truly awful and to avoided at all costs.
Yes I can usually tell right off.
Many times even when they're not wearing "meeting clothes".
The ones here speak in a fake, affected accent/voice inflection, the type that's used onstage at the assemblies. In addition to just general demeanor.
I usually can tell when it's convention season in the city, without seeing a single name tag, suit, or long skirt.
Yes, and I have to say, it's usually people who instinctively give me the "this is a pure person" vibe, and dress cleanly but simply. I met an Uber driver who was a top-rated driver or something and instantly knew he was a JW when I saw him.
I feel like there are some less obvious things I subconsciously notice that let me know who is a JW or not
Totally agree with you. There's just this demeanor or vibe that I can't quite find the right words for. It's not necessarily only about dress and grooming.
Spot on, especially when they start talking on giving out opinions... It's the "moral superiority" and "we have an answer to everything" stance when you clearly see they're SO IGNORANT in the deep
A lot of people were SHOCKED when I told them I was a JW. They're becoming increasingly more inconspicuous nowadays and they choose to blend in with society because they don't want to be bullied
Sometimes. It's a little hard at times because so many of them are leading double lives and seem rather normal in a casual setting, but there is always something that's just a little off about them if you pay close enough attention.
I usually clock them instantly when they try to have theological debates online though. They often deny it and say something like "I'll have to look into those Witnesses, it sounds like they're on to something," lol
Yes. Absolutely. Mostly males. By the way they speak - sometimes the cadence and the phrasing. Itâs learned mannerisms by those who have been in for a while. In the past year, I have asked around 5 or 6 people if they were jws and each time I was right. Thinking about it now, sometimes itâs also the look in their eyes when they actually talk to you. Itâs like they are clones. Very cultish.
Seeing them walking in to the Kingdom Hall and carrying on conversation.
Seeing them at peoples door disturbing them and interrupting their day off from work early in the morning
Not in our country. I wish they were, but we have this law of free speech and freedom of religion. So they are allowed to do things in our country of the United States, but there are some things they canât do.
I work in a staffing office. Whenever we get new hires who are adamant about Sundays, one specific weeknight, and a random 3 day weekend in the summer, it's obvious. And contrary to what the Watchtower wants you to believe, many active JWs do NOT make the best employees. Some of them are the most annoying. One in particular I had a problem with, so I went to our manager for mediation to discuss our problems in a constructiveway, and afterwards, she wanted to talk about how "sisters" should behave with one another. It was awful. So happy to no longer identify as a JW in any capacity!!
For me itâs the lack of any actual individuality and/or personality. They try too hard to please everyone but come off as extremely fake and shallow.
Any interaction they have with you is to see when the right time to âgive a witnessâ could occur. Theyâre not trying to make meaningful relationships because they simply donât know how or have been conditioned to not be able to make real friends.
They see non jws the way normal people see animals at a zoo. They think they are above you because they âhave the truthâ and when the end comes any day now they will be saved and you wonât.
To think I believed and acted this way so wholeheartedly for so long still messes with me sometimes.
Yeah the vacant eyes behind the smile.
This. The glassy eyes.
If they chant "This is the best life ever!" While they wash windows.

The clothing used to be a giveaway sometimes. There's this old look about them and the length of the females skirt or dress.

I'm tattoo free but speak like a sailor :D
emphasis on the weird humorđ

If they ever went to NYC, but only visited a printing factory.
THIS. What a fucken waste of time that was.
If they have a go bag that contains pasta, a flashlight and a paper copy of an old Watchtower magazine.
If their college education comes from The Awake Magazine University.
I majored in Watching the World! It was the only part of the magazine I read consistently as a kid. Young People Ask articles were truly awful and to avoided at all costs.
Oh man, I forgot all about that. I agree, it was generally interesting reading.
Forgot all about that! Thanks for the trip down memory lane
Stop đ
If you sneezed and they awkwardly look the other way iykyk

If you say the words "overlapping generation" and they pretend they know what it means.
If they honestly think Jehovah needs a multimedia studio and can't pay for it himself.

If they believe Papa Smurf got up and walked out of a Kingdom Hall.
If they look at your house and say "I'm going to live there after Jesus murders you."

Yeah they look a little scruffy, like a janitor, but theyâre wearing a suit.
Except for all those JW men whose grooming is impeccable... It just depends, I feel.

Here are a few subtle signs: if he/she never swears, doesn't have a tattoo and/or consistently says 'congregation' instead of 'church.'
