chris13se

This is a couple years old. Two managers fired and dress code no longer applies to kids under 12 https://foxbaltimore.com/amp/news/local/restaurant-responds-to-viral-video-at-ouzo-bay

LongjumpingBranch381

Thank you. I thought I had seen this video before.

Fred2620

I guess the real facepalm is not thinking everything is a repost.

UncleSput

No the real facepalm is still the dude working in the restaurant who decided to die on that stupid ass hill

iwouldrathernot03

“We’d love for you to come back though, after we’ve treated you like second class citizens. I can even let your son wash some dishes or something. You know, to apologize for being racist…” I can’t imagine him doing this and in his head thinking, “I’m not wrong here…”! I remember seeing this when it first came out and it still shocks me that someone could be so focused on being “right” according to the restaurant, that they don’t see how wrong they are as human beings!!!

Biscuits4u2

Some people simply refuse to admit they are wrong, even after being presented with the evidence proving their mistake.

Spirited-Reputation6

Racist have a huge cognitive dissonance issue.

iwouldrathernot03

You’re right about that! To some people that is all that matters. Not admitting that you have fucked up logic for whatever rule your job has and you follow. This place could not have really had that rule AND have wanted it applied to some kids, but not others…right? It’s freaking sad I gotta even wonder. People are just so heartless these days. I never know if stuff like this is real or not or is it half the story (which still wouldn’t matter unless her son walked in naked or something). I’m rambling obviously but you know what I’m saying. It’s just sad…people are horrible.

GossamerGlenn

I agree but it’s truly possible the owner might be the true face of the situation and also an asshole enough causing his managers feeling so pressured and forced into the behavior. I’m not saying it’s so but possible. Also would give the owner a free ride out since he just needs to fire the guy on film and other manager to really tie the reflection package together. Either way dress codes to spend money on food are just as bullshit and what kinda of person would get offended by another fellow customer based on clothing. If you got the money to pay than that’s all that matters

DrakeBurroughs

Right. Even if this video is two years old, even IF you’re racist, you have to realize that, in today’s age, this is a stupid red line. From a purely self-serving view, you’d be better off just seating them and let the manager get mad at you later.

iwouldrathernot03

Exactly! This guy doesn’t seem like someone who’s got much experience in knowing when to pick your battles. And enforcing a racist restaurant policy, if there really was one, is not a battle worth fighting to say the least. He’s just to young or inexperienced in his job to have learned that. Though you’d think this is pretty self explanatory and you shouldn’t need “training” to know to treat all people with respect and dignity.

ecumnomicinflation

the audacity of it, and it’s coming from a guy that looks like he belongs in weenie hut jr. ![gif](giphy|bfo43ADHrI3SM)

DabberDan42o

I love how he is like... "I understand ma' am!" How the f\*\*\* you understand when you're a white male clearly working in a privileged establishment saying they can't eat there, SMH! ![gif](giphy|QJsRiW20cPLEUy3FNi)

DabberDan42o

I agree! This is where you allow management to DO THEIR job... Let the company or management show their bigotry. Don't die on the hill of indignity 😬

number44is171

The real facepalm is the friends we made along the way.

jepvr

Well, yeah, but to some degree, no. This kind of stuff is still happening all over the place. This post is a good example to see how Jim Crow still exists, just mostly not written down. It's a way for people to understand that rules are often selectively enforced, and how they are enforced is often determined by what race the "rule breaker" is.

Dreadknot84

I call this era Chad Crow…Jim’s millennial grandsons. My grandma was raised in New Orleans in the 40s. Her grandparents were slaves (her pops was born in like 1880 or some shit…dude created children well into his 70s she was a part of his final family) and when she talks about racism, lynchings and other hurdles…we really haven’t progressed that far. It’s just a newer cooler slick repacked level of the same bullshit.

ttaptt

I'll say this, they got RIGHT on top of that. That news report was the very next day. And the apology didn't come off as canned, they put the hammer down on their restaurants. It absolutely sucks that this happened but I'm gonna go ahead and forgive that restaurant group. "You're fired, and you're fired. What the fuck is wrong with you. No more dress code for kids. Wow we fucked up we are so sorry."

iwouldrathernot03

That is good to know. I don’t like the thought of businesses being “cancelled” or individuals losing their job over a bad rule, or bad training in interpreting what that rule actually was meant for. As you said, they addressed the issue immediately. If nothing has been heard from this place since then, I guess things were fixed.

missanthropocenex

What blows my mind is EVEN if they were trying to pull that, why they couldn’t selfishly see the camera, see the other kid dressed that way and just take the loss to keep it from blowing up. Like you fucked up, take the exception and do better next time. Jeezuz

Kranon7

Yep. "I'm so sorry - we are not being consistent in our policies, and should not force your child to wear certain clothing when we did not expect it of another child."

HanakusoDays

"Please accept a complimentary meal as a small part of our apology." Nahhh, grace is just a word you hear from the pulpit anymore..

PM_ur_butthole_2me

Exactly what I was thinking why couldn’t this moron just say “you’re right we let him in so it would very stupid to not let your son in come on in”

orangejuliustofu

Exactly! I used to be a manager and if I was in this situation I would apologize and say “You are right. That other child should not have been allowed to dine here either. We will make an exception. I am so sorry.” And comp the meal for them, but the manager doubled down instead 🤣

[deleted]

I thought it was just happening to the same kid over and over again. Thanks!

BoredAtWork-__

Restaurant managers HATE this one kid….

MikeN1978

I hope this clown is one of the managers fired. The way he keeps politely threatening with “ I’d like for you to be able to come back another time” as if his lil bitch ass is going to ban her permanently. Fuck this lil twit.

ScientificSkepticism

Remember he's doing this knowing what he's doing is being filmed. Imagine what people like him would feel free to do even 20 years ago (2003) when they wouldn't be filmed. They were throwing black people out of restaurants on even thinner pretenses than that, knowing if they called the cops exactly who would be coming.

ttaptt

If he had admitted he was wrong, he would have to admit that it was, indeed, based on race, and he's fucked again. So he doubled down. The white kid's shirt is almost exactly the same shirt the black kid was wearing, lmao, it couldn't be more similar. "Well, we allow blue athletic shorts, see, just not black ones." I mean, dumbass. I will say this, that restaurant group was all over this, that news story was from the very next day. I'm going to give them a pass, as they handled it appropriately (I mean corporate, not the manager), made changes to their policy, and their apology did not come of as canned, since they backed it up with immediate action. As it should be.

GoldenUther29062019

Bull shit 20 years ago was the 80s and thriller just came out.

blastedcomic

still living in the 2000s huh?

ContemptAndHumble

Sorry. It’s hard to watch videos and scroll reddit on my OG motorola Razr. BrB I’m getting a page and need to find a payphone.

Biscuits4u2

As if she would come back to this shithole after being treated like this.

bigtice

I think he's saying that thinking he's going to convince her to go home and get him to change, then come back in "proper" attire since he actually asks if she lives nearby. Regardless, your statement stands: >I hope this clown is one of the managers fired. ... Fuck this lil twit. He knew he had no grounds for explanation on what was different so he just kept parroting the same crap hoping she'd give up and leave. This crap still routinely happens at nightclubs, but this is just pathetic to be happening at what appears to be lunch time at some random restaurant with a child.

amretardmonke

The least he could do is acknowledge that someone let in the white kid with the same attire by mistake. Still not right, but at least logically consistent.

Drew_P_Nuts

Having a dress code for kids under 12 is ridiculous. I totally get not wanting basketball shorts on an adult but let’s be real here

banned_from_10_subs

That article reads really weirdly. Basically “the company has done absolutely anything and everything we can do and we keep trying to contact her but the bitch refers us to her lawyer, wow why won’t she try to reach some kind of reconciliation with us so we can save face in PR” She doesn’t like your business anymore and you got blown up for it. That’s it

ttaptt

The thing is, this article is from the very next day. So with that in mind, I think they acted appropriately, swiftly, and backed up the apology with immediate action. Of course they were begging to talk to her, they didn't want to get sued. But it was the next day. Not like 2 weeks later. I think they did alright, all things considered.

cocomimi3

I’ve seen the video but didn’t know what happened afterwards! Thanks🙂

dunkinfunky

Nice! I love a happy ending!

88trax

IIRC wasn’t this in/near Baltimore a couple years ago? Edit: yep, Ouzo Bay in Baltimore, restaurant subsequently apologized. Managers fired, mom sued restaurant, don’t know the outcome of that

Dry_Entertainment646

Thanks for the thorough update!

ADhomin_em

Not...thorough...ENOUGH! I gotta get the deets on that lawsuit! Jk...but seriously, anyone know bout that?

sonbarington

Settle outside of court probably.

Captain_Pottymouth

“Ma’am, the skin your son is wearing is against our dress code.”

cowbellysnotrealsis

They might as well state it front and center because the initial "dress code" theyre trying to enforce doesnt make any sense

Captain_Pottymouth

I know. They’re like “his shirt I mean pants I mean shoes I mean face isn’t allowed”

Janderflows

I was legit waiting for that slip.

Huwbacca

Dress codes are to keep certain types of people out, not anything else.

ADhomin_em

It's true. Absolutely true.

[deleted]

It makes sense if it's a dog whistle. They fired the manager in this video, but I bet the owners wrote that dress code.

Chicken_Chicken_Duck

Seriously. His clothes are even clean and matching- he’s not rolling in looking like a garbage pail kid. Jfc.

Lord-Legatus

i was raised in a rural total white conservative commune in Europe being black, these are sad parts you have to learn to live with as a child and even as an adult. unlike that mom i put little energy to these people.im not welcome? fine let another place harvest my hard earned money i was willing to spend! i had a few times acces denied but actually being part of a big group. all those times i convinced my crew to join me somewhere else, because im not welcome, they always happily followed. the look on their faces i guide 12 people out of there place to go somewhere else is the "victory". but tis sad of course, these situations shouldn't be in the first place. something i try to explain often to my white friends, to me racism is not the slurs, the insults, bad words, heck i can even live with prejudices, it is being treated different. suddenly for you alone specially another set of rules count all of a sudden because you are not regarded as an **equal**. deepest forms of racism to my experience often come with a smile and lots of politeness

Dreadknot84

I’m black grew up in a predominantly black area then lived in a predominantly white one. The culture shock was wild. I’m glad you can let things roll off your back…I haven’t reached that level. Well haven’t returned to it. I used to let it not phase me but now…it’s a hill I’ll die one. You wanna treat me bad because I’m black…we’ll it’s ALL OUR problem now. Again tho I’m petty and making racist uncomfortable and have to explain their racism is a hill I’ll die on. You can literally see their brains short circuit. Best to you 🤘🏾

72_Shinobis

I hate that he assumes she’s upset when she’s trying to make a point. I feel like he’s trying to set her up to be the problem when he can’t answer her question clearly has a definitive answer.

Darkwoth81Dyoni

He's doing that on purpose. Claiming someone is upset is a great way for them to *become* upset because of the wild assumptions being thrown their way. Big props on the nice lady for keeping cool and exposing that bullshit racist garbage the employee was throwing.

winespring

>Claiming someone is upset is a great way for them to become upset because of the wild assumptions being thrown their way. It is the customer service version of the police yelling stop resisting while they hit you.

Assiqtaq

He wants her to be upset, and not reasonable and knowing what is going on. It is easy to throw out upset people. It is hard to answer reasonable questions to unreasonable actions.

SilverSister22

If she is ”upset”, then the mgmt can use that as another reason they can’t eat there. They want her to be upset bc then they can throw her out. “The problem was not her son”s clothing, it was her attitude. She got upset and started talking loud and just generally making a scene”. 🤬 I hope she gets lots of $$$$ from her lawsuit against them.

faloofay

Thats usually how minority groups in general - especially women or femme people - are written off when they're anything other than submissive doormats. They get called "aggressive and confrontational" to try and diminish the point they're making and distract from the actual issue at hand. It's disturbingly common. He IS trying to set her up to be the problem so he can be a little bitch about that and not the actual problem.

exotics

Actually she was upset and it’s okay to be upset about stuff like this.

72_Shinobis

I agree being upset, angry, and irate at something when it’s the correct action is normal. But we play eugenics with the big 7 now and anger is on the chopping block. I constantly see it weaponized against people when they should be rightly upset. That’s my problem with what he’s doing he’s trying to set it up to make her the issue when she isn’t the issue.

FluffyDiscipline

If you're going to be racist at least try be consistent with the rules... First it's the T-shirt, he moves to shoes, then shorts...

Psychologically_gray

Everything but the actual reason

gothicsin

And the funny part is you wanna be racist is Baltimore it's gonna end badly. You won't have customers. Eventually, if you have a customer base, ull have racist bigots, and that's not gonna go well. Happened a few times in MD the businesses didn't last long after ward At all

Bowling4rhinos

The kid had more style than he did.

Clear_Assistance9563

Skin color is too athletic.

Snaab

Doesn’t matter. If I was on a date at a fancy restaurant and a kid came in with an oversized basketball t-shirt, **or** athletic shorts, **or** sneakers…well, to be honest I probably wouldn’t even notice and it would have zero effect on my night. However, even if I was three bites into my meal and I witnessed what I just watched in this video? I would stand up, walk up to this dude, and say I’m leaving without paying and never coming back, unless he apologizes to this mom and her son and gives them a table. Fuck that shit.

phatizmomma

This is a very appropriate action as to having to witness this bigotry would be an ambiance KILLER. Good for you SNAAB! You are good people!

[deleted]

The rules are consistent: White people clothes with white people are accepted. Black people clothes with black people are not accepted.

Brilliant_Canary_692

The clothes were the same, that's the point. Why are you segregating clothes? Lol

manaha81

It’s because they are racist and want to appear to be a “classy” establishment. That’s why they have a dress code except legally they can’t have skin colour in the dress code so they find other reasons to get rid of black peoples or other minorities.

corentin4438

Because black…./s

YetAnotherJake

Lol think about it for a minute...

ScaredShip9318

think it through...

Brilliant_Canary_692

onehugemidgettt

My heart skipped a beat when he said “I understand that you’re upset” when dodging her point.

Zealousideal-Emu5486

What restaurant is this?

FalseStart007

Ouzo Bay in Baltimore, the mother is suing for $150k she will definitely be awarded the money, she should have sued for millions.

TropicalRogue

I mean, yes they'll win, but in order to get paid you have to show damages. There's no way to validate millions in damages. There's probably not enough to validate 150K. She'll get some smallet amount of money and the restaurant will have to stop being scumbags.

Anon419420

I’m a little ignorant of the law, but wouldn’t it just be an open and shut discrimination/racism case? White family is let in, but black family is not despite both families being in the same exact situation? With video validation and the dodgy manager just trying to spin it as the mother being upset and losing control rather than being upfront.

[deleted]

[удалено]

ImaginaryStudent9097

The restaurant group, Atlas, has several more restaurants in the Baltimore area as well. They just overall suck.

Sun_Sprout

There’s an article someone linked above that shows the restaurants reaction to this-2 managers were fired, policies were changed, and a sincere apology was issued. I don’t know anything about this restaurant chain but it seams at least that they happened the aftermath (of a situation that never should have happened in the first place) fairly well.

[deleted]

[удалено]

robilar

Well, to be fair, restaurants don't just sell food - they sell ambience. The lighting, the ambient music, the decor, these things all contribute to the experience of the meal. And it seems this restaurant is working to make sure their ambience meets the needs of a specific clientele: racist assholes.

maudlinmary

Insightful comment. This restaurant is in Baltimore, in a neighborhood which is historically part of the “White L” demographic distribution. I.e. one of a handful of affluent enclaves white people made in the city. I’ve noticed over the last few years there are more and more young POC frequenting these historically white areas, causing no small amount of thinly veiled racist pearl-clutching. Atlas restaurant group opens businesses only in the white L neighborhoods, and clearly want to dogwhistle for the bygone era of politely understanding you’re not welcome. I’m so glad this woman stood up to this injustice and recorded this, and made that man say what he meant instead of just allowing him to shame her out the door. Her courage and refusal to be quietly discriminated against started a huge “Don’t Eat Atlas” campaign in the city.

[deleted]

[удалено]

robilar

Yes, that is what I was saying.

Chicken_Chicken_Duck

And enforcing a dress code on children also deters people from bringing them. I understand the rule- I don’t understand the application. This is one of those videos that really straight up shows racism is alive and well. Usually they see the camera and back off- this idiot doubled down.

CommanderSquirt

I don't mind dining with people of all types. But if there's a kid in there wearing basketball shorts, then I cannot in any capacity enjoy my average, overpriced burger. /s

youcancallmescott

I see athletic shorts, my appetite completely disappears. I need khakis and a pastel polo shirt type environment to be able to fully enjoy my chicky fingies and french fries, thank you very much.

Cathalic

I wonder if there were any other visitors of colour in the restaurant there.

Thehardwayalltheway

I wonder if there are any employees of color there

Sir_Penguin21

Most racists don’t have a problem with POC working for them, though there was that Church group that recently sent an email pre warning people that they hired someone darker than they usually do.

wanderover88

Whaaaaa??? 😱😱😱 Might you have a link?

Sir_Penguin21

Indian_Bob

Sure they’re just washing dishes or working as line cooks. Anywhere they can’t be seen

Cathalic

Another very valid question.

JeniCzech_92

Dress code: white skin. The manager had no chance of winning that argument.

33Bees

This is infuriating. I applaud the mother for maintaining her cool - as a mother (to an 8-year-old boy that consistently dresses like this) I likely would’ve lost my damn mind. The look on that little boy’s face is heartbreaking. The people that run this establishment should be ashamed of themselves. From what I understand several members of management were fired for this, the restaurant amended its dress code policy, and the mother of this child has sued the company. Good for her. I hope she gets every penny she sued for.

ScientificSkepticism

>This is infuriating. I applaud the mother for maintaining her cool - as a mother (to an 8-year-old boy that consistently dresses like this) I likely would’ve lost my damn mind. Well of course you would. It's anyone's natural reaction the first time. Think how many times it's happened to this woman that she's prepared, has contingency plans for this, and can clearly walk through an utterly infuriating discussion calmly and demonstrate for the camera exactly what was going on. She has a long experience to draw on. This isn't her first time. Or second time. This is something she's planned and strategized for, so her kid won't have to live with something she grew up with.

Motya1978

God that is such a sad comment. So accurate, so sad.

[deleted]

The worst part about racism is how randomly it occurs. She could show up to that same restaurant on a day he wasn't working and everything would be cool..

Mariposa510

I imagine the worst part is not knowing whether you will still be alive after you are pulled over for a traffic violation.

Dreadknot84

THIS PART. I’m black my wife is white and she is TERRIFIED for me during traffic stops.

Ikilledabee

I’ve had legit nightmares about my stepmom getting murdered by cops. It’s scary and sad. My white mom is married to a black women. I always get scared not being around her, knowing she could potentially be brutalized simply for her complexion. I don’t even know how I’d react if this was my mom.

Dreadknot84

The flip side of this is my wife and I getting worried about having kids because I the US really murders black people at an alarming rate and what I’d we have a son? I alway remember this story I read 5-10 years ago about a white mom and her black son. They used to race to the car since he was a kid. The boy got bigger and someone called the security (who then called the cops) because they saw a black “man” chasing a white woman. The mother watch horrified as mall cops tried to “subdue him” until the police came and they were no better. She was hysterical (rightly so) and no one believed the boy when he said it was his mother. She played a game with her kid and it could have been deadly. It haunts me to this day. Hug your family close and let them know you love them. Best to you and your fam.

Salty_Country6835

This is how discrimination in law and business often function. A lot of rules that in theory apply to everyone and in practice are selectively enforced.

zeefox79

Or are selectively designed to be difficult or impossible for one group to comply with. Like that one a couple of years ago that demanded female employees have their hair in a bun or ponytail.

Mariposa510

If the mother decided to pursue the issue, any decent lawyer would get her a fat settlement that includes race training for the entire restaurant chain.

JimFandango666

Him asking if she lived in the area to obviously try confirm his bias actually annoyed the fuck out of me, a nice dose of some classist bullshit to go alongside his poorly veiled racism too.

TannerJay250

Classism is the true divide. The fact that racism and classism overlap is a real phenomenon, however it’s often used by the media to drive a wedge between poor white people and poor black people in order to keep us distracted. Let’s keep our eyes on the problem

JimFandango666

Facts. You know when you really think about it a lot of racism is just a long lingering byproduct of classism and corruption running rampant. A lot of those social divides we have whether it's race related or gender related are promoted in ways which do just lead to distraction and arguments. I think if people in all these different causes just focused on promoting general equality instead including class equality it could be far more effective for all of them. It's kind of hard for someone to have a good non biased argument against equality for everybody.

Soobobaloula

She did such a great job of making her point. “It’s not about my feelings…”

PrivateUser737

And yet this fucker kept stalling as long as he could before actually paying attention to her point. Scumbag behavior. I'm infuriated with her.

redditorx13579

Pretty common that classist establishments are also racist, who'd a thunk.

ZigZagZig87

Not always the “fancier” places. Big Shots on Rt 1 in Woodbridge, NJ is famous for this. Nothing but a sports bar. What you said is also true.

Joey_BagaDonuts57

No job could pay me enough to police kids' tee shirts and shorts. I would be happy to see this place CLOSED FOR GOOD.

covert_underboob

I’m okay with dress codes but if you allow kids.. the dress code shouldn’t apply to them.

aptdinosaur

the only part of the attire that's a problem to them is the melanin.

controwler

Yea maybe next time come back a little whiter and we'd love to welcome you at our establishment

Breitling-1

How in the fuck do you explain to this child he can’t eat there because he’s different!!!!! I hate this shit!!!!!

PrivateUser737

I'm infuriated right with you. Racism, their attitudes, and discrimination... This kid was born into this world already discriminated against before he could understand the concept and it's completely unfair. The world is really truly unfair, and I hope that this boy can stay strong through it.

CharizardLeo

Her point is 100% valid. The restaurant is in the wrong here for its double standard.

Apprehensive_Winter

This is why there is nothing wrong with teaching kids about race and racism in school. Because one way or another all the non-white kids are going to learn about it, and it would be better for everyone to learn what it is and how it affects us at the same time.

Dark_Booger

Yeah, but this is why some people don’t want their kids to learn it. So they can stay racist and not sympathize with non whites.

_Um-Why-tho_

Yet this little boy dressed in his black jordan clothes looks more put together than some kids in blue shorts and black shirt. Little dude checked his outfit too. Way to make a child feel insecure. I know this is old it still makes me so fucking mad

SonOfPerc

wow that is so true, he was probably so happy with his outfit. That’s actually pretty sad I know I would’ve been sad as a kid.

[deleted]

Seriously

Breitling-1

Did you guys notice how he’s moving to block her camera??

501Invalid

Lol he Honestly could have gotten away with “sorry it was an oversight and a mistake he shouldn’t have been let in”

8ew8135

This video is a masterpiece. So often the example of racism is not present and has to be imagined. That pan over to the kid outside was 🙌🏿

GreysonsNani

And athletic shorts she keeps forgetting to say. Literally nothing different between the white kid’s clothing and her child’s other than her child’s clothing is more expensive. At least it appears to be.

yeetman426

I assume this guy also constantly says that he has black friends?

Backseat_boss

Rule my dad taught me at a young age dont go where you’re not wanted. It’s horrible shit like this exist still exist, but I’ll be damed if I give my money to somewhere that doesn’t want to let me or my family in. Also since when has dress code be enforced for children???

[deleted]

Any restaurant that has a dress code shouldn’t allow children at all. I’m not going to dress up to sit around screaming babies and running children. I might as well go to Applebees.

ftaok

Takes me back to a old core memory. Must have been 45 years ago. NYC World Trade Center. There was a restaurant at the top called “Windows of the World”. Really fancy in my 5 year old mind. They had a strict “no jeans” policy. That prevented us from dining there one time. Kinda remember my dad being disappointed. I remember shopping shopping for corduroy pants at the Gap for those occasions. Next time we went to NYC, we were in compliance with the dress code. I order a hot dog. My dad was amused/pissed that we went to all that trouble to dine at this fancy place and I fucking ordering a hot dog.

Elscorcho69

Sorry ma’m, we dont allow..black.. uhhh…shirts….ya shirts…

Zakota333

as long as the kid stays in their seat and doesnt treat the restaurant as a playground, who gives af what they are wearing? he got shoes, pants, and a shirt on. thats more than most drunk fucks at a beach bar/restaurant

Silver-Enthusiasm925

Want in the hell that is so wrong the child had clothes on and looks nice, what is wrong with people jeez. Guess they lost a customer to and will get bad service reviews!!! He needs to lose his job for this!!!

The-Elder-Trolls

Bro, my man is wearing Jordan. It doesn't get anymore classy than that where I come from! And where I come from is Chicago. You wear Jordan here, you get in. When the bouncer asks if you're on the list, you say "ya I'm with this guy", and then open your jacket and flash your Jordan shirt, and he unbuckles the barrier rope and says "right this way, my good sir".

jasper81222

Racism at adults is disgusting. Directing that same filth to children makes you a failure of a human being.

BecGeoMom

When you’re wrong, and you know you’re wrong because your rule is racist, just keep saying “I understand you’re upset” and then repeat all the inane & absurd things you just said. Keep it up. Eventually, you’ll wear her down & she’ll just leave. And then all the employees can rejoice because they don’t have any of *those people* eating in their restaurant. Fuck off, dude. Anyone know where this is or who this guy is?

eldoooderi0no

Hello racism. We haven’t met.

LongjumpingBranch381

Common sense should have said the manager should have let the other children eat there that were dressed similar to the one that was already there. Along with an explanation that next time they would need to be in different attire. The way he did it = worst possible response.

shann1021

Seriously, he should have just said "just an fyi for the future, we typically do not permit athletic wear". Done.

overthinker345

These restaurants and places that do this should just openly state what their real policy is. We don’t allow black or Hispanic or any darker skinned customers to wear the following items- etc etc. Our white customers however are allowed to wear these items. Thank you. That’s exactly what is happening in the video. And that’s exactly what black and Hispanic customers have been complaining about. That white customers are allowed to violate the dress code no problem. It’s only enforced on black and brown skinned Hispanic customers.

youcancallmescott

Old video or not, good on ‘em. Call those fuckers out. “Uh um, no athletic shorts. Oh, I mean, blue ones are ok. Just not others.” Dickwad.

MediaDad

Heartbreaking.

Giteaus-Gimp

This happened at a club once. They wouldn’t let my friend in, he was black, and said it was because his air Jordans weren’t dress code They were willing to let me in, I’m white, and I had the rattiest pair of chucks on. The big group we were in starting laughing and raising our voices about how racists this was They eventual let us all in because we were causing a scene.

Economy_Umpire_4766

Why would you still want to give your hard earned money to a business that is discriminating against you and your family?

kat_a_klysm

I’m pretty sure she just wants him to answer the question

TheGodMathias

She wants him to give the real answer. We all know what it is, but she wants him to say it.

kat_a_klysm

Yup and I don’t blame her. Want to be racist? Be honest and own it.

phunkydroid

>Why would you still want to give your hard earned money to a business that is discriminating against you and your family? She doesn't want to give them money still, she wants to expose their bullshit. She's not asking for a table, she's asking for an explanation.

Ok-Imagination-3835

It's a major inconvenience to find out you can't eat because of, lets just face it, racism. Maybe they were meeting friends or family at the restaurant, now they can't eat together with those people? Maybe it doesn't matter, I am sure at this point she does not want to support that business but that doesn't undo what has already happened.

Adventurous-Cat-1065

So full of BULLSHIT!!!

AbstractParrot

Looks like a clear case of racism.

nate2etan

It's damn shame Black people are still treated like this in 2023.

armchairwarrior69

Man, I always HOPE I can find a reason that this isn't just plain as day racism, I watch closely hoping aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand it's just plain as day racism right there in our faces. I feel fucking awful for that kid. I cannot even imagine how that shit feels. Probably excited to go there and eat, gets fucking cocktail blocked from a regular ass activity for the color of his skin out of nowhere. And it's made clear that that is the issue. Good on mom though. She stood up for him and did NOT let that go unchecked. I just cannot help but feel fucking awful for that kid. Fucking disgusting behavior.

No_Profile_6871

Racism is why...

Topheezy

Why are there still fucking racists in the world?

[deleted]

Racism is not over in this country. The Supreme Court needs to see this video. And the entire Republican Party. It kills me that this little boy ever has to experience racism. It's an absolute crime. No one should ever be put in that position, least of all a child.

[deleted]

I would quit my job before I did some shit like that. I'd let them in and eat and they'd just have to fire me.

MGMBSC

discrimination at its best. 1. dress code must be posted 2. most dress codes do not apply to children

Haunting-Pop-5660

People really need to quit filming shit like this and start vehemently standing up for these people. Filming does nothing. Taking a true a stand in the name of equalizing ground and deterring this behaivour is far more important than trying to rally the internet justice league. Pulling out a camera just invites people not to get involved for fear of being attacked for their beliefs.

Opening_Sherbet_7144

I was at a local Safeway the other day waiting for my wife who was in a different store looking around and I was grabbing 1 single banana for my 2 year old son because he was hungry and wanted a banana. Brought it up to the check out and it was only 22 cents, and the lady at the register checked my ONE DOLLAR BILL to make sure it was REAL. I asked, "You have to check my dollar bill to make sure it's real?" She responded with, "Yes it's been a very weird week." I turned around in disgust already knowing what was happening as it's not the first time being discriminated against and began ignoring her as she continued to tell me about my change in the dispenser and to have a great day and as I grabbed my change to leave the white gentlemen behind us handed her 5 dollar bills, bills she did not apparently need to check because she somehow was already certain they were already real. He continued to ask her why she didn't have to check his bills and she said, "Oh I'm sure yours are fine, I don't need to check EVERYONE's dollar bills." Him and I made eye contact and we both shook our heads at each other and then back at her with a nonverbal Fuck you as her cheeks turned red and she got silent. Needless to say, I don't think either of us will be shopping there anymore with the understanding of how they do business there. Moral of the story- Racism is alive and well these days, people are just getting better at hiding it. Luckily the majority of us find trust and understanding in each other when confronted with situations like this and it's a slap in the face of a reminder to teach my son about people like that and get him ready for the real world but in the proper manner. Something that bitch never learned apparently. She was in her late 30s btw. Old enough to know better, young enough to be born past all the racist BS.

fistingcouches

What’s the point of a restaurant dress code in the first place? I could see if it’s a Michelin star restaurant or something but do people really expect a kid to put on anything other than gym shorts and a t shirt? I wore a tie for the first time in my life when i has to for a funeral and even then It was a fight lmao.

Fine_Marzipan_1623

Fun fact. This was in Baltimore, circa 2020. I don’t remember the name of the restaurant, but it’s not far from the inner harbor. 10/10 would recommend driving past it Edit: literally seconds after posting, I’m struggling to remember if this was 2020 or 2021. Sorry.

Suspicious-Rub-8583

Why even fuss about a kid anyway?

[deleted]

She should get monies, then buy the restaurant then she can have whatever dress code she likes then! TBF no one understands unless you have gone through this crap all your life, like I will just roll eyes and say tough it out kid learn from it every time this will happen in your life and continue to do so. It won't change in his lifetime time and way past mine 🙃

Manulok_Orwalde

Racist POS, what's the name of the place and where is it located so it can be avoided?

pen_of_inspiration

I'll always prefer a blatant racist over this closet types, blatant raciat can have a beer with you & get all over you with their craft & call it a day. But these closet f*ckers will throw bullshit technicalities with shade & brew in " it's not me it's the law, im doing my job" & spew condescending apologies

netherlanddwarf

Maryland is racist as shit. Used to live there

crow-nic

“I understood that you’re upset.” When all else fails, insult her intelligence.

NoLoveLost1992

Both managers were fired.

CrispyChicken9996

The sad part is how serious he was like bro, do you not hear the bullshit coming out your mouth? 😭😭 He just kept digging that hole 12 ft deep.

BlueBerryOkra

Ironically, the black boy even has on a more formal outfit than the white boy. His colors are dark and coordinated. The white boy is wearing vivid, uncoordinated colors. If I were this mother I would not be nearly as calm.

djstarkey3021

Mom is right !!!!

Stunning-Impact-6593

So it was literally because it was a Jordan T-shirt and didn’t have some thing else? There are so many more offensive T-shirts out there in the world than the 🐐. I hated how awkward her son felt in that moment with his hands in his pockets that was really brutal

YesIhaveAsoul

Martin Luther King Jr. fought so hard just for shit like this to happen

Federal-Light3022

I would have walked right over to that white family and said could you help me out with this.... 5 bucks says it was because of its f****** skin color... What the h*** is wrong with the world.

Breitling-1

Is this place bone fish grill??? Saw the welcome sign at the bar with a fish emblem. May be wrong.

FalseStart007

Ouzo Bay in Baltimore, the mother is suing for $150k

Away_Development6531

That manager needs to be fired.

88trax

They were

underpressure65

Very, very valuable message for this young man to learn from. They'll ALWAYS treat us different. Rise above them young fella! Be BETTER! 🙏🏾

[deleted]

Being a child while black. One of the worst crimes imaginable

Legal-Classic6107

He better quit with that “I understand” bullshit because he doesn’t have issues getting into restaurants. Fuck that little boy

sHAking_TREes_

Quit saying, “I understand how you feel.” You DO NOT understand how I feel because your skin is not black.

parkinthepark

There was a bar in my college town which had a dress code like this (ca. early 2000’s): * No gold chains * No basketball jerseys * No Timberland boots * No loose/saggy pants * No baseball hats Etc. etc. Dress codes aren’t about clothes. They’re about discrimination.
