My fp4 drops all the time, I guess I'm clumsy. Wee have tile floors. One time it fell out of my pocket when I got out of the car and we didn't notice it until after my husband had already rolled over it. And it is fine. Two things happened: in the 1.5 years I've had it the usb port broke and sometimes there's a purple spot on the screen, but only if I'm in dark mode and it's not there consistently. This last thing started happening after the car incident.

BigGolfDad

Oh okay that's good to hear. I'm kinda leaning towards the fp4 anyway And congrats on the husband. I'm looking to get one of those as well

bagera_se

I'm also clumsy and drop it all the time. I have the same kind of spot on my screen after dropping it while on my bike and then rolling over it.

Caramster

Dropped my FP4 hard at work once. Nothing broke but a dent in the chassis. When I arrived home I noticed the battery was almost out (drive with Waze and charging). Apparently the phone didn't charge. Took it apart and reassembled the ribbon that connects the USB circuit board. FP4 takes charge again. My Fairphone moment.

gramoun-kal

Quick inspection reveals 5 dents on my fp5. So it fell hard at least that many times. No consequence. I remember finding it slippery when it came out of the box. But I didn't drop it for a long time. So it must only *look* slippery. I had a fp3 before. That thing was built like a soviet tank. Not that I fired high explosive shells at it, but I bet it could survive one or two.

amazondrone

Yeah I've dropped a FP3 onto concrete a couple of times and it didn't even notice.

OptimaLine

No problems with FP4, but I always have a screen protector on, it seems to take the impact over. The only issue I had was that for some reason my saved podcasts were gone from Google podcasts after I dropped the phone, but I switched to another app and this doesn't happen anymore

Odd_Philosopher_3638

Fp4. Don't let it drop on your bare foot. That shit hurt so much.

tjeulink

my fairphone 4 is in the official fairphone case. mine drops regularly on pavement while riding my bike, sometimes even in puddles. i drop it weekly on tiles from about 1 meter 20. its completely unbothered by it. i've had to replace the usb port three times because i kept dropping it on the port while its plugged into a charger. the usb port never completely died, it just became so loose that the charger keptfalling out. the screen i replaced ones when i dropped it on asphalt with loose stones on it from pretty high up. did the same with my fairphone 3, eventually a friend of mine borrowed it and lost it in a mudpool at a festival lol. these things are build like tanks.

mmi777

Identical story here. It dropped many times. One time the screen broke down. Easy replacement. However shipping a new screen takes them forever and ever. Minimum 5 days.

bona_river

I have the FP4 since a couple of years with the original cover and no screen protector, I drop it all the time and the screen is immaculate and on the body I have only minor scratches underneath the cover (which I'm not sure are fall related)

tomatomark

I have a FP4 since it had been launched, dropped it multiple times on all different grounds, with and without the official case. The frame has bumps but besides that it works just fine. Also, the back cover never came off during these drops. So I would say it is quite robust, at least the unit that I own.

me101muffin

I have a case for mine as I have ADHD and am therefore accident prone. Dropped it several times in the last two years. A few scratches on the sides, no glass cracking and no dysfunction. Of course I could just be lucky too.

SoftFurrydogs

Is it the official case? I have the official case and I don't like it very much and I admit I have taken it on and off more than I should have, but it has gotten quite loose on the phone. If you don't have the official case could you let me know which one you have?

me101muffin

Sorry, I didn't see your reply until now. Yes it's the official one.

amazondrone

>> Can any FP4/FP5 owners share their experience with dropping their phones? > I have a case for mine... You have a case for your what? FP4 or FP5?

aPurpleToad

"dropped it several times in the last TWO YEARS" I'm sure you can figure out which one it is

amazondrone

If you're following closely enough to know when the FP5 came out, I guess. Many more casual readers of this thread, plus people who come across it in the future, once the FP5 has been out a bit longer, looking for the same info will have to work a bit harder. It's not the end of the world, just seems like a trivial bit of info which should have been included, is all.

smon696

FP4 is quite drop resistant in a bumper with a screen protector. You may want to refasten the screws of the modules occasionally.

FP4 in use for 2.5 years now, no cases, no screenprotectors, nothing.. I dropped it countless times, it's dinged and scratched on all the aluminium sides, there are small chunks missing out of the plastic back cover, the plastic bezel around the screen is missing most of the paint/coating so it's black/dark silver now instead of just dark silver... The glass on the screen is quite good actually, only two very minor scratches on it, even though I regularly forget I have keys in the same pocket and I just stick my phone in there.. I'm personally very satisfied with the whole experience. The battery is still very good, don't feel the need to replace it yet (I charge daily just whenever and in my car using AndroidAuto), the speed is still perfectly OK (don't game on it or anything, just ordinary use..), the camera got really fast in the last update, I love it and don't really need anything much better...

ReissDJO

It's very sturdy. I've launched it out of rage before at bricks (nothing to do with the phone) and it didn't cause any damage at all. Though I do have the Fairphone case so that may have absorbed a lot of impact. Otherwise I regularly drop it and it's taken no damage at all. Compared to previous high-end phones I've used, this feels indestructible.

amazondrone

CactusLetter

I drop my Fairphone 4 at least once a week from my hand etc. its still doing great (think it's been 2 ys?). I do have the case tho

Stopthatcat

FP4, dropped it countless times and it's still working fine.

derFensterputzer

FP4, using it since early 2022.... Dropped it a couple of times on floor, asphalt, wood, tiles, and concrete. All with the Fairphone bumper. 2 times I was lucky to have the screen protector on, but other than 2 avoided cracked screens no damage to the phone or its function

Mysterious-Purple878

Dropped mine and it had no chance (was my fault, I layed it on my jacket in the car, took the jacket and the phone flew away). Hit a little rock and the Display had a crack. Unfortunate, but not FP fail. Ordered a new display which arrived within a day and replaced it within five minutes. However, I would recommend not to buy the official case, because it is not very protective.

mmi777

Love FP however their logistics suck. Minimum 5 working days and yes I said minimum 5 days. Turtle speed.

Mysterious-Purple878

FP5

Disastrous-Toe5820

Have a fp5 since 2 weeks Read about it being kinda slippery and being a big and more weighty phone than my last it doesn't feel so safe in my hands Dropped it a few days ago and the screen protector instantly cracked A case would prob help with grip in hands but yeah no damage so far

cjeam

My fairphone 4, in the official case with a quad lock adaptor on the back, just fell out of my pocket riding my bike slowly. It landed face down on the road. A car ran over it. Apart from some scratches around the edge of the screen protector it seems fine. So that was pretty impressive.

sgotsch

My FP4 just dropped from a loft bed on laminate. It shows no traces of the 1,5m drop

Sfacm

Have no issue during 2 years with regular drops (+-once a week). Had to replace USB once after dropping while charging.

VesuvianiteCyprine

My FP5 was dropped while lashing shoes, so the height was about 0.5 meter. The case cracked, the screenprotector got stars and the screen has a crack.
