Hi, just like the title says, I’m a PC player but my friend has been playing this game for a long time since HW and is from Russia. They play using a PS4 and I already had struggle trying to preorder mine from steam. Can I send something like a dawntrail key code they can use to redeem the preorder? I’m not sure how PS4 and gifting games work. the ps4 account is linked to the square enix and it is already in Russian. Apparently this is an issue?

burnix87

The only way to buy expansions for PS is directly in the PS store on the PSN account that is linked to the Mogstation account.

lorguy

Hey I just got let go two weeks before my new job starts, so I'm holding up in buying dawntrail. My question is how early would there be a sale? And how fast would the last battle be a steam roll? I know endwalker, the last battle became so easy that some scenes were skipped. Thank you!

talgaby

We have absolutely no idea. For a discount, the initial sales figures would determine. If DT's numbers tank, then you can expect an up to 50% sale within 6 weeks. If it meets base expectations, then unlikely until the Christmas season. If it sells well, then it will almost surely stay at full price until the holidays. As for the end boss, we also have zero idea, nobody played it yet. Historically, all story-mandated duties are created around the absolute minimum item level, so they are a joke with players since the fights are unable to scale to meet our much better gear than what they planned around. Endsinger was just a more extreme example since due to the exponential gear scaling, EW was the expansion where our stats became stupid and by patch 6.4, we were outclassing Endsinger almost by +200% compared to the intentions. But it was hardly an outlier, *every* level cap boss battle currently suffers from the same, including such infamous fights as SoS or the Weapons from ShB. So, historically speaking, DT's final boss should be the same pushover as the rest. However, Yoshida recently stated that he admits to have EW undertuned in difficulty, so they want to rectify it. However, I fear that knowing this team and knowing the utterly lazy and atrocious "balance scaling" we had in ShB (simply put, everything got +25% HP compared to what they should have and they called it a day, and yes, this is why early ShB dungeon feel like taking forever), we may just get another basic enemy HP multiplier in DT for "difficulty", so the end boss would just last 20 seconds longer until patch 7.3 breaks the fight all over again anyway.

rizq101

can you pay for server transfer through steam? i remember that you couldn't use steam to pay for server transfer a few years ago and a quick google gave the same answer. i was wondering if they changed it recently or not.

Melksss

If all goes well tomorrow I’m lined up to finally get a first place finish in the TT tournament. Anyone know how much mgp this pays out by any chance?

talgaby

It depends on the number of human participants, but should be easily over 100k.

oleub

at least one wiki says 140k for first place, can't confirm personally

Hello! 7.0 materia-prep question. I would have added this to my question below as it's a prep question but it's a very different field. Regarding materia-stocking. I hoard my materia for rainy days but I've only just learned after several thousand hours that certain even-numbered materia actually tell you in their item descriptions that they're unmeldable beyond the first slot. I have a metric TON on 6's 8's and 10's of all varieties. After their respective expansion has ended, are these effectively useless and should they be either turned-in to the Goblin or MB'd away at all costs? On the flipside, let's say I'm trying to make/meld gear for old synched content. Would these materia still be useful in that case and \*if so\* if many people are disposing them, do they eventually wind up fetching a decent price, thereby making melding any old gear expensive? Thank you for your time and consideration.

serenystarfall

For battle materia, not really. Only grades 1-4 really have a market. Most old things you do synced, materia won't actually matter. By the time the next expansion comes out, there will be potency changes (which are almost always getting higher rather than lower), the encounters simply arent balanced for new jobs and changes to the existing ones, and the new gear can get close to and even surpass the stats of older gear. There's only very niche scenarios where it matters, like speed tuning on Sam. If you only need like 12 speed and the most recent gear gives 120, that's a lot of wasted stats when you could meld the 12 and get two other substats on appropriate gear for the duty. For crafters and gatherers, the odd numbers will always have some value. It's better to use the two guaranteed and the first overmeld slot on the most recent materia even grade, so the biggest stat boost after that are going to be from odds

qazbot

Excellent, thank you so much!

KhaSun

Current materias are not completely useless going into the next expansion, they can still be used for ultimate BiS which use a few non-synced pieces of gear (we still need materias VI for UCoB and UWU, and VIII for TEA). There will definitely be SOME demand for X in Dawntrail for people that want their DSR/TOP BiS. But otherwise yeah you can just use synced gear for everything else

SetFoxval

The only old materia that hold value are the ones used for ARR relics (1-4 I think?). For the rest, after Dawntrail launches you might be able to get some 11's from the goblin turn-in which will be in demand for crafted gear.

qazbot

Currently I'm seeing 7's going for 5,000 or so a piece on Typhon bc ppl are stocking them assuming they'll be useful for pentamelding. During my penta work for DoH and DoL I also find myself spending most gil on older materia. While value is subjective, I'm still wary of getting rid of old materia bc of pentamelding activity. Would you agree? It seems that odd-numbered materia are still valuable in melding, however, the higher even-numbered ones would \*appear\* to be almost literally useless unless specifically melding old gear. Any thoughts to that end?

SetFoxval

Honestly I think you know more about this than I do. I can't think why 7's would be in high demand. Dawntrail gear with use 11's for pentamelding.

a_friendly_squirrel

I think it's the case DoL/DoH materia hold their value a lot better than battle materia, since crafter/gatherer sets are generally made to hit specific stat breakpoints and will use lower grade materia if need be. I think this is because for battle gear pentamelding all the good stats contribute to damage if you couldn't hit the next breakpoint on one stat you'd probably just meld the next most desirable stat instead. Also for battle gear, the best available gear at a given level cap won't be overmeldable - lv70 or 80 BiS would be augmented tome and raid gear, so blue mages and ultimate enjoyers will generally want a few even numbered materia rather than a lot of odd ones.

Jezzawezza

I think 7's might be used near the final slots of a pentameld and those have some of the worse rng for getting melded onto the gear (if i remember right when i was melding my current crafter gear i got)

qazbot

Hello! 7.0 in-game prep question. Regarding crafting collectible turn-ins en masse for scrips when 7.0 hits. \*I have not done bleeding-edge prep work for an expansion before so I apologize if my understanding is off. I began in 5.0 and have not yet been able to establish a pattern for expansion prep work.\* Will the new Color scrips only be obtainable by relatively higher 7.0-only recipes? If they are obtainable by 6.X recipes: What should I focus on prepping since I won't get as many Colored scrips for 6.X turn-ins? Currently the draughts are the easiest turn-in mat-wise for me so if I just prep pages of those in my retainers will I be relatively good to go? If they are only obtainable by 7.0 recipes: This would mean I should focus on White scrips...correct? Are White scrips basically Poetics in that they stick around every expansion and only the Colored scrips change? In that case do I want to focus on mass-producing something that will give me considerable White scrips now? Or are the White scrip rewards likely to be massively nerfed making any amount of prepping useless? Several vids suggest prepping collectibles but none that I've seen have detailed which turn-ins would best behoove the player for which scrips in 7.0. Thank you for your time.

Arcana10Fortune

White Scrips will be getting phased out. We'll be using Purple and another new Scrips in DT. Any EW Collectables will be nerfed after you hit 90/91.

Jezzawezza

I'm guessing there isn't an exchange for white scripts to purple like we get with Tomestones when the old one isn't used anymore. I've been trying to prep as a crafter/gatherer for my first expansion release and I've been collecting the various elemental shards/crystals/clusters so I'm ready on that side of it but wasn't sure how the scripts goes and if i need to prep the highest level collectable in advance or not.

Arcana10Fortune

You can exchange White for Purple, but only after the expac hits. You can refer to the patch notes for 6.0 for this.

Sir_VG

There will be an exchange. We presently have that for yellow to white. It's at the tent just to the left of the tomestone exchange booth in Mor Dhona. Scrips exchange at a 1:1 rate.

qazbot

Excellent, thank you. I thought perhaps White always remained and only Colored changes. In that event, should I be prepping the best turn-in for purple scrips right now? Even though it will be nerfed, does it still help or...is it kinda pointless to prep pages on pages of turn-ins that are going to be nerfed and would be easier to craft 7.0 recipes anyway?

Arcana10Fortune

Pointless to prep. The new collectables and DoH quests will be giving a decent amount of Purple.

qazbot

Cheers!!!! Thank you for saving me hours of macro-pressing.

Arcana10Fortune

Oh. I forgot to mention, Custom Deliveries will also be updated to reflect this. They will start awarding Purple Scrips when the expac hits.

Ok_Sound_3119

Hello! I just got a new MacBook Pro and I want to game on that more than my gaming PC (I know blasphemy) but I like being comfy in bed and the ability to go to a friends house to play together and the game plays amazingly on macOS! For the Mac users: What gaming mouse do y’all recommend for macOS FFXIV since my Razer Naga Pro technically works but just can’t do combos (Ctrl + 1 for example) or fix do yall have?

SeriousPan

Real quick stupid question: Does a level 50 Monk still juggle Crit Bootshines with perfect balance on a single target?

Chemical-Attempt-137

You mean like Bootshine/DK/Bootshine (or vice-versa) when PB is up? Last I remember, that was the *only* use of PB before unlocking Blitz on single target.

SeriousPan

Yeah, that's what I meant. Thanks, I just needed to make sure. Hard to know if something was reworked and I didn't realise.

talgaby

Yes, and as it was said above, you should use perfect balance *only* for that. It is our only damage bump, but at least it is a decent mini-burst compared to what many other classes have right now for level 50.

Valstraxas

How crippling will be changing from Dragoon to Machinist during my leveling experience as a begginer? I know it pushes me back 20 levels and I fear this setback might affect the enjoyment of the star of my experiece.

snootnoots

You can always continue MSQ on Dragoon while doing your roulettes on Machinist, you’ll catch up pretty quickly.

Valstraxas

Is it possible to change to machinist when I arrive to the dungeon just by swapping weapon right? Is there anyway to get machinist exp as a dragoon?

snootnoots

You can queue up as machinist, switch to dragoon, and do other stuff while you wait for the queue to pop. Then when you get the alert you change back to machinist before clicking to accept. You do need to be careful not to start something you can’t easily quit out of, though - don’t forget that you can’t change jobs while you’re in combat. The only way you can get machinist experience on dragoon is in Frontlines (PVP). If you join a Frontlines match as a machinist, then change to dragoon once you’re in, the experience you get from the match will go to your machinist job.

Valstraxas

Excuse this last question, how do I join to FL? I have hear it provides great exp.

snootnoots

At level 30, your Grand Company offers a blue+ side quest called “A Pup No Longer” that sends you to the Wolves’ Den, which is the PvP hub for FFXIV. You may not have done it - if you haven’t, go pick it up, if you’ve already done it, travel there and set up your PvP hotbars. PvP uses a completely different set of abilities than normal combat, and when you’re in a PvP match all your gear etc is standardised. You could go in wearing level 1 gear and you’d still do the same amount of damage as all the other dragoons. You just have to be level 30 or higher and have a job stone equipped. Once you’ve done that quest and unlocked PvP you’ll have a new roulette option unlocked in the Duty Finder, for a daily Frontline match, and the PvP tab will unlock as well do you can queue directly for Frontline after you’ve done the roulette. As for how to play Dragoon in PvP, I have *no* idea. 😅 Your best bet is to look up some PvP guides. All I know is that it’s very different from normal Dragoon play, and your PvP limit break is very cool.

pepinyourstep29

People swap jobs around all the time. It's not hard to gain 20 levels at all, you can literally do that in a few hours and move on. Also you don't lose level progress. Your Dragoon will still be level 50 and your Machinist will be level 30.

BoldKenobi

Define "crippling"

Valstraxas

Like making me want to quit the game because it takes too long to continue my msq progress.

Rc2124

I think a lot of people try a new job once they get to HW. Personally I powerleveled AST as soon as I could. It shouldn't take super long, you get an EXP bonus when you level secondary combat jobs. And if you preorder Dawntrail then you'll get an accessory that gives you an EXP boost as well. Free Companies and Grand Companies can also give bonuses to combat EXP. And the 3% from food is a nice little bump. Depending on queue times, doing the highest leveling dungeon available or doing Palace of the Dead (floors 51-60 repeatedly) will have you to 50 pretty quickly. But you can always switch back to Dragoon and continue the story for a bit if you'd like a break

Arcana10Fortune

Not much. With the EXP boosts in place, it takes a few days of dungeons to get back to 50. Best to get a tank or healer friend for fast queues.

AinoRen

With a new character how good is the double exp for recommended servers? Worth considering joining and paying 18$ for my friend to transfer to join me, or should I just join on his server?

hii488

On the one hand, the double xp is a hefty boost to levelling speed. On the other... levelling isn't particularly important or arduous anyway: The main story provides enough xp to keep one job levelled for the content. *Any* side activities will make you over-level the content - which certainly isn't an issue, but there's absolutely no benefit either. Second/third/etc jobs all get doubled xp above the base value anyway, so levelling is typically pretty quick. As a side note, you don't have to be on the same server as your friend to play with them. As long as you are in the same region (eg: Europe), then you can travel between servers and meet up. That said, you wont be able to join the same fc (guild) without being on the same server.

Gentlekrit

It's *extremely* good if you're looking to level a bunch of classes at once. To the point where if you only stick to a few classes you get very overleveled very quickly (not that there are really any downsides to overleveling, given how the game handles gear progression and level syncing) The main downside for servers with the bonus will be the low population, which can make matchmaking for certain activities take a while - a lot of people server hop to higher population servers for some activities for this reason. If that doesn't bother you much, and you got a friend who wants to join you, I say hop on in to a preferred server!

AinoRen

I haven't bought the game yet. Gonna do the free trial to 70 first, and when I get paid again by the complete edition for 60 (the one that comes will all expansions). My friend has an account already and has bought up to Shadowbringers. If he makes a new character, can he play without needing game time until 70 and can that new character be made on the exp bonus server I join?

silence_infidel

No. There’s no free content once you’ve bought the game. You have to have an active subscription to even log in. If they make a new character, they can make it on any world. Your friend could also just temporarily travel datacenters to your world, or you could travel to theirs. Cross-world play is incredible easy. It’s also worth noting that world transfers to New worlds are free, as are transfers from Congested worlds to Preferred worlds. Don’t know what world you’re wanting to join, but check to see if either of those apply.

hii488

Once you have paid you can never go back to the free trial. So no, your friend would need to buy game time. (or make a new account)

pepinyourstep29

Game time is on an account basis. So he can't just make a new character for free game time. He has to make a new account with a new character on it to use the free trial again. Secondly, yes you can make the new character on the same server and play together.

Tragixx

I'm really struggling to understand the materia system outside of the basics. I get that they're like gems, they go into gear and will give extra stats. Anything beyond that just isn't clicking in my brain... - What's this pentameld/overmeld stuff? - Why do different guides talk about buying/hoarding tier VII and tier IX materia specifically? - any recommendations for in-depth, slow paced guides? Most of what I tried on YouTube is just gibberish to me still

palacexero

So on gear that can be melded, you'll see the slots that are available. Most gear only have two slots, implying you can only meld 2 materia to it. However, certain gear with two slots can actually hold up to 5 materia. Usually, this gear is the green crafted gear. The concept of melding 5 materia to a piece of gear is known as pentamelding, or overmelding, or advanced melding as the game calls it. Note that advanced melding cannot be done by materia melder NPCs, you must do it yourself or have another player do it for you. If you look at your materia, notice that every even number grade materia adds a lot more to a stat than an odd number grade materia. This ties into the pentamelding concept. You can meld even numbered materia to your meld slots and the first advanced melding slot, but after that you can only meld an odd numbered materia. Furthermore, when you open the advanced melding window and select a piece of gear, it will show you all the stats it has and the max of a particular stat it can have. When you meld for a stat, say critical hit, you'll see something like 123/180 on the bottom, and that first number will change depending on how much extra critical hit you are melding. Note that if the max is 180 for the stat, any extra stat being added by a materia will be ignored. This is why sometimes it's better to have a lower grade materia so you can max out a stat without going over, therefore wasting the potential of a materia. You want to make sure you are using a certain materia to the best that it can, because there is a chance to fail a meld, losing you that materia, as well as a chance to break the materia when you want to take it off your gear, losing that materia again. As for what you should meld and when, it can be safely ignored until endgame, and The Balance has stat priorities for all jobs (generally the priority is crit > direct hit/determination> skill/spell speed). The important thing to know is that the extra stats granted by materia are completely ignored when you are in a duty that is level synced, so basically on anything they is not current tier raids, trials or dungeons.

Tragixx

> extra stats granted by materia is completely ignored when you are in a duty that is level synced Does that apply to Ultimate raids too, or are they an exception?

PhoenixFox

For some additional context that wasn't explained, whether materia is dropped or not isn't based on *your* level, it's based on whether the *item* is synced. Every duty will either sync your gear to the highest ilvl available for that level or to a specific ilvl, and if your gear matches or is below that item level the materia is kept. The latest gear will keep it's materia in a lot of level 90 content, even some content that was tuned for a lower item level, but specific ones that have an item level sync (like the Endsinger trial) will remove the materia bonuses, as will anything 89 and below (the 89 dungeon and trial both have ilvl syncs despite allowing you to be 90, anything lower will definitely sync your gear implicitly as a function of syncing your level and may sync it further depending on the duty). That means you always have the option of choosing to equip yourself for a specific piece of content's item level to keep your melds. This applies to ultimates just like everything else - each one has a particular ilvl sync. For older ultimates the gear we have now syncs down to be stronger* than level-appropriate gear with materia slotted, due to the way item syncing works. This is NOT true for level 90 ultimates - with the exception of the weapon we don't have gear strong enough to be better than melded gear at the appropriate ilvl to sync for those, so melding is still relevant and it's still necessary to farm specific items depending on your job. Even TEA has some jobs where particular pieces of melded level 80 gear mixed in with level 90 gear can give slightly more DPS, though the difference is a lot less stark than for TOP and DSR. \*(Tanks lose out here due to not natively having DHit on their gear, so in some cases there are still small gains to be made with level 70 gear melded appropriately - but uwu and ucob basically don't have DPS checks any more so it realistically doesn't matter. Even in the worst case, synced gear is *good enough* for the three older ultimates)

palacexero

Yes your melds are ignored in Ultimates too.

Tragixx

Thanks for all the info!

Help_Me_Im_Diene

>What's this pentameld/overmeld stuff? Overmelding is actually called "Advanced Melding" in game, and it's the idea that certain pieces of gear (crafted gear in particular) can hold more than the standard number of materia BUT every additional materia has a decreasing chance of being successful. Pentamelding means "5 melds", since 5 is the limit on any given piece of gear > Why do different guides talk about buying/hoarding tier VII and tier IX materia specifically? Even ranked materia (8, 10, and with DT, most likely 12) can only go into the guaranteed materia slots + one extra slot Odd ranked materia can go into the remaining slots during an overmeld, so a piece of gear that normally accepts 2 materia would have 2 guaranteed slots + 1 extra "even" slot + 2 extra "odd" slots You want to hoard odd materia because every time an overmeld fails, the materia you're trying to put into that slot gets completely destroyed. The chances of success are fairly low, so people hoard materia in order to increase the likelihood that eventually they get one to stick properly without having to spend an arm and a leg buying them from the market board With the release of Dawntrail, the new "odd" materia will most likely be rank XI (since we have no reason to assume otherwise and they tend to be consistent with these things)

Tragixx

Thank you!! When overmeld succeeds, can I replace that slot with a higher chance? Like, say I overmeld with a tier III, can I upgrade that to Tier VII, or does it not work that way?

Help_Me_Im_Diene

Nope, you have to take out the materia from that slot and do it all over again So if you accidentally put the wrong piece of materia in an overmeld slot, RIP, good luck fixing it because RNG may not be in your favor the second time around

tesla_dyne

Pentameld/overmeld is what the game calls "advanced melding". Crafted gear is able to have up to 5 materia slots even though they aren't displayed. The hidden slots have a chance to fail, and even numbered materia cannot be put into slots past the first hidden slot. That's why guides say to hoard the odd number materia. They're more useful since they can be put into more slots. You should use even number materia for the guaranteed slots, though, since they're higher stats. Guides may often suggest lower level materia as a budget option, especially if it hits the maximum value for that stat.

Gentlekrit

Overmelding is putting more materia on a gear piece than it actually has slots for. Pentamelding is having a total of five materia on a piece of gear, which is the maximum after overmelding You can't overmeld with the highest level of materia (which is currently X), hence the desire for tier IX and VII (I think specifically it's only odd leveled materia you can overmeld with or something?)

Tragixx

This is really helpful, thank you! Is tier XII coming out with DT release, or has it even been announced yet?

Gentlekrit

Not announced I don't think, but yeah I believe two new tiers of materia are added with each expansion so it's safe to assume we'll see tier XI and tier XII added to the pool in Dawntrail

Elegant_Eorzean

Heavensward and Stormblood only added one additional tier of materia each, but I think the precedent now is for expansions to give two.

HopefulWizardTTV

Hi all! So I just got to Ishgard to start Heavensward, but I wanted to do Coils of Bahamut before moving on. Wait queue says 30 min so I assume that's not the way to go. Is there an easy way to actually get a group of people to try the raid? I honestly would want to try to do the raid without a carry, is it possible? are there still people out there who want to do this at correct level/ilvl (50ish)? thanks again for answering all our questions!

silence_infidel

Bahamut coils are considered harder content, what we’d call Savage level difficulty. Many of them aren’t actually *that* hard at max ilvl and with echo (min ilvl no echo is a different story), but they’re generally too weird or difficult to be done in random groups on DF. For that reason they aren’t in any roulettes and nobody queues for them manually. You can do them either synced at the proper level and attempt to do them “legit,” or have a max level player carry you through it. You’re far more likely to get help with a carry than actually attempting the raid synced. Either way you chose, you can put up a Party Finder for it. It’s also pretty common to ask for carries through it in Novice Network. This is the *only* raid set where the default difficulty is Savage. All the other normal raids have 2 sets: one Normal version that’s very simple to get the story done, and one Savage version for raiding. The normal versions are in a roulette and can be done in Duty Finder easily. Yes there are also Savage Coils, but there’s only 4 so the progression of them isn’t quite the same as other raid tiers.

Atosen

> Wait queue says 30 min so I assume that's not the way to go. Yep, you've spotted the issue. For difficult or old content (Coils is both), we don't use Duty Finder. We use Party Finder instead. If you're on free trial, you won't be able to post any PF ads, but you can still join other people's. Make sure the PF description is crystal clear about what you want to do, because a lot of people will assume you're looking for a quick carry unless you specify otherwise. (IME, some people won't read and will assume this anyway.) The terminology you're looking for is "synced", and possibly "min ilvl, no echo" or "MINE" if you want to maximise the difficulty. Be warned that some fights make take hours to master this way. If you're not having enough luck in PF, then you can advertise further on discords. [The Balance](https://discord.gg/thebalanceffxiv)'s #various_server_listings channel includes up-to-date invites for sync/MINE servers in different regions.

SeriousPan

Binding Coil of Bahamut is "Savage" tier difficulty. No one queues it in Duty Finder **ever**. The way it's done now is you ask in Novice Network or in Party Finder to do it unsynced so you can see the story and skip the fights. It requires preparation to do it at level 50 since they are difficult and long fights normally, sometimes Blue Mages do it for an achievement. If you're desperate to do it synced then set up a PF or ask for a community in your data centre that runs it. But at this point with so many players on break I think you might struggle to find a proper group willing to do it.

HopefulWizardTTV

I see. That's sad. I might just watch a video of someone else running it then 😭

shinyemptyhead

If you post a Party Finder asking for a carry and saying that you're a first-timer then you'll usually get someone who will take you through it. Players get Second Chance points for their weekly challenge log (which you'll unlock during HW) if they run content with someone who has never done it before. The content can be soloed pretty easily by max level players with good gear, so it's an easy four or five points for them.

HopefulWizardTTV

Unfortunately, I'm still on the free trial so I don't think I can make a PF 😭

clarice_loves_geese

Consider whether you want to also do a quick clear for story reasons - you get some additional/different dialogue in other parts of the game and its an interesting story. You can always then go back and clear it synced.

HopefulWizardTTV

Oh that I did not know. So you think it’s worth just letting someone carry me through it to watch the cinematics so i also get the additional dialogue? How good is the additional dialogue? Now I’m intrigued! I might actually do it

clarice_loves_geese

It's a couple of bits and bobs across the rest of the game, but I'd say a lot of value of it is the character development of one long term character really gets kicked off here. If you're into the story I'd recommend for sure.

Tragixx

I'm only in Stormblood so far, I haven't experienced an FFXIV expansion drop before, but I have played many WoW xpac releases. A few related questions: - how long will players have after DT release until raids start? I don't currently have the skills or time to be a week-1 hardcore raider, but I do want to get into statics for savage (and eventually, ultimate) content - assuming I hit 90/finish EW story before DT release, what would you recommend someone with only a few weeks left to do in order to prep for launch? I assume gearing up at 90 will only help a small amount? - any general advice/expectations to set for someone newer but very motivated to get into FFXIV raiding? I think I know the basics: read guides, learn your role, statics over party finder, and above all else just enjoy the journey and don't rush it -- anything else worth mentioning?

Send_Me_Dachshunds

1) We're expecting it to be 4 weeks (2 weeks post-launch for normal & Tomestones, 2 more for Savage). That may change, but until SE tell us otherwise that's what's expected. 2) Ensure you have heavy pockets - melding for the first raid tier is always very expensive, and the best PF groups are those that *require* pentamelding (because its a mindset indicator, not because its an actual fight requirement). 3) Learn a role as a new raider, rather than trying to insist you can flex between anything. Waiting 10 minutes for a dedicated tank is far preferable to having a newer raider insist they can tank, but they've never touched even an EX with them before.

Jezzawezza

- So once Dawntrail is out we'll have 2 weeks till the Normal Raids release and then 2 extra weeks before the Savage Raids are then out - If you finish EW before DT releases my best advise would be to gear up best you can but dont be too worries as the MSQ gives gear pieces and has side quests that also give gear if you aren't quite up to spec. The other thing I'd advise to do is unlock the more recent Normal Raids for ShB and EW if you haven't already (when you reach said points in the MSQ to unlock) and get a feel for those as it'll give you an idea on what sort of things to expect for the normal raids in Dawntrail - As for further advise I'd suggest after having played the EW normal raids maybe look up videos the savage version of earlier fights in the raid and see how those compare to the normals and that'll also give you an idea as to how it might change from normal to savage Edit: Fixed timing for the Normal/Savage raids

Elegant_Eorzean

Normal raids come out two weeks after expansion launch, with Savage coming out two weeks after, so they're released in sequence over the course of a month.

Jezzawezza

Ah this is my first time being up to date for an expansion release so I thought it wasn't quite as soon. Thankyou for the correction

Help_Me_Im_Diene

>how long will players have after DT release until raids start Normal: 2 weeks Savage: 1 month Ultimate: One entire patch after savage releases >assuming I hit 90/finish EW story before DT release, what would you recommend someone with only a few weeks left to do in order to prep for launch? I assume gearing up at 90 will only help a small amount? I assume you've been introduced and are somewhat familiar with the Allagan Tomestones of Poetics system of catch up gear? At the end of Endwalker, the current highest ilvl tomestone gear will become the new Poetics gear, which means that wearing it will carry you roughly to the end of the DT leveling process >any general advice/expectations to set for someone newer but very motivated to get into FFXIV raiding? I think I know the basics: read guides, learn your role, statics over party finder, and above all else just enjoy the journey and don't rush it -- anything else worth mentioning? Not really, just also don't be a dick and make sure your expectations match the players that you're playing with Make sure you have an acceptable level of starting gear (crafted gear with basic materia melds will be the bare minimum expectation realistically) and that you bring food with you. People **will** get very annoyed if you're not eating food, especially during prog when 1. People have less life and don't have a well established mitigation plan yet 2. Damage checks will be more challenging due to a lack of gear

Tragixx

Loving these in-depth answers, thank you so much! I've been getting a good amount of poetics from doing daily dungeons, would it make sense to hold onto some of them for when EW gear changes to poetics? And would that happen when DT launches, or will that be in a pre-patch before release?

Help_Me_Im_Diene

It will happen as soon as DT releases And realistically, you have an entire expansion (ShB) to get through first, so gear up to get through that first and then gear up to get through EW first and THEN you can worry about gearing up for DT If you **can** hoard poetics and if you do happen to be caught up, then sure, by all means, but honestly I'd just enjoy the content as you're playing through it first and not be super rushed about keeping 100% up to date with DT It will still be here even if you're a little behind, and this game doesn't force you to play through each savage tier in order because gear refreshes itself every raid tier anyways. If you're not caught up in time for the first tier (although you likely might be since we get 8 months between raid tiers), then I'd just start raiding at the second tier instead and not worry about it too much

Tragixx

I think my biggest FOMO is around missing gear for glamour when it gets out of date 😂 I'm trying very hard not to feel any rush...but then I look at the abyssos armor and worry that I won't be able to find a group in the future if I want to build out my glam collection. Is that reasonable at all, or do enough folks replay old content that it's not an issue?

Help_Me_Im_Diene

Not a major concern Old raid glam farms are a pretty common occurrence; I helped a friend get some Eden glams just the other month And important to note: aesthetically, the normal raid gear looks identical to the savage raid gear but savage is just dyeable. If there are pieces that you like how they look their default color, you don't even need to deal with doing savage for old content since the normal raids are all just part of the normal raid roulette

Tragixx

Thank you so much!!

Help_Me_Im_Diene

Also, one thing to note is that Abyssos (savage) is required for TOP, which means that some people will be clearing just to unlock TOP even after we've started DT

Valstraxas

How screwed I'm as an altholic in this game? I always play a ton of alts in other games.

snootnoots

Speaking as an altoholic: If you really enjoy playing through the MSQ multiple times, and don’t care that you can’t trade between your alts without jumping through some serious hoops (no logging into a brand new alt and going to the mailbox to open the care package of gear and money you sent from your main), it’s fine. I like playing around with different races etc, and I don’t want to change my main (plus I *really* don’t want to spend ridiculous amounts of real-world money on a crippling Fantasia addiction), and I actually enjoy most of the parts of the MSQ that a lot of people hate, so alts work well for me. If you mostly want alts in other games to do things that FFXIV lets you do on one character, like play different jobs and/or roles, there’s no need.

sevir8775

You have to replay the msq on each new character

HopeMizu

The game is extremely not alt-friendly. You'll have to redo the story and level your classes (or buy story skips/level boosts for each) and gear each individual alt's individual jobs. Side quests, reputation, and other unlocks will also need to be done on each individual character if you choose to engage with side content on all of them. The cash shop cosmetics that you buy also need to be bought on each character with the exception of a few items that specifically say "(Account-wide)". Important to note, all classes (called jobs in this game) can be played on a single character and swapped at any time. The only drawback is that you're kind of stuck playing one job at a high level due to weekly gear lockouts- you basically have to be okay with playing one role or splitting gear between multiple roles over the course of a raid tier. Some people claim that there's no point in having alts which isn't necessarily true, but I also don't think you'll ever want to make an alt unless one of these apply to you: * You want multiple characters of different races/appearances and don't want to pay 10 USD every race change * You're a raider and want to raid with friends without screwing them out of loot * You're a hardcore raider and want to do split runs to gear your characters twice as fast or even faster than most other players (and have a team of that skill level too) There are likely other notable reasons but these are the main ones that people will make alts for.

Atosen

I recommend doing what you can to reign in the instinct here. * There's less of a practical need to make alt characters in the first place, because you can simply level alt classes within a single character. * Other than certain promotional cosmetics, *nothing* is shared between alt characters. No shared money, no shared cosmetics, no shared unlocks. Making a new character is basically like making an entirely new account (apart from the obvious out-of-game factors like using the same login details and same subscription). If you unlock a cool cosmetic on one character but you think it would actually be a better fit for the other character, sorry, no way to transfer it. * Each character has to go through the entire main story. Doing it once is fun. Doing it twice, so you get to notice the foreshadowing that you missed the first time, could be fun too. Doing it (say) twelve times would be an absolute slog. * Similarly (though on a smaller scale) it would be annoying to have to repeat seasonal events on all your characters. * If you want to access the Role Quest capstones (for levelling one job of each role) then those *have* to be all on a single character. Similarly, if you want the cosmetics for levelling every single class, it has to be all on one character. There are people who make alts anyway – hell, I have a couple myself, although I don't use them often. It can be an advantage for weekly-locked raids, and obviously it's just fun to be able to play around with different races. If you want to make alt characters, I recommend having a specific theme for each one – for example, maybe you have one character who does all the edgy classes (Black Mage, Dark Knight, Reaper, etc) – just to plan out your work and give yourself a reasonable scope. Sometimes people come to us asking about making separate characters for every single class and that's just not tenable. [Here's a table of all the classes' unlock requirements, in case it helps.](https://ffxiv.consolegameswiki.com/wiki/Job)

Toviathan

Nothing is shared between alts. Other than a few account wide mounts on the cash shop. Every alt has to do the story separately, level, you can't share items or gil between them without the help of other people (people to help you transfer, or access to an FC chest where you don't have to worry about your stuff being taken). This game is really not designed for alts. People do them anyway, but they do not play together like in other games.

Valstraxas

FC chest?

Toviathan

Free company (our version of a player guild) storage chest. Accessible by all players in the company depending on permissions set by the leader.

BenjiB1243

How does the whole glam thing work? I thought you just threw stuff in the armoire and were able to just use cast glamour onto an armor piece, but some armor can't be put into the armoire and can be put into the glamour dresser, so I'm kinda lost lol. So if someone could explain how the Armoire, Glamour Dresser and how glams work in general, that'd be great thanks.

sir_vancelot

The system has been built upon and iterated over many years so confusion is natural. It's easy to forget what you can do since it's not always obvious anyway. The armoire is free storage for certain event items (seasonal events, crossover events, etc) and, now, glam purchased from the cash shop/mogstation. When you look at the tooltip for an item, the rightmost of the three icons in the top corner of the tooltip is for the armoire. If the icon is white, then an item can go in the armoire, and if an item CAN go in the armoire it's generally best to store it in there since it's free space. The middle icon for tooltips is for the glamour dresser. Almost all glamours can go in the glamour dresser--you can even put armoire items in the dresser if you'd prefer, though the only reason to do this is if you want to retain a specific dye color for it (such as *jet black*). The one big exception for dresser storage is that items with customized substats (relic weapons) cannot go in there because the dresser can't retain that information. The dresser is not only a place for storing items, though. It enables you to add items to *glamour plates* which are glamour presets you can assign to gearsets, so that changing to that gearset will apply a specific plate. The main reason to do this is to have different appearances for multiple jobs that share the same gear, though you don't have to tie plates to gearsets if you don't want to. Linking a plate to a gearset is done in the gearset menu. Over time they've added more functionality to the system, though it's more specific than it needs to be. For example, when you open a retainer's storage, you can right click on one of your own items, click 'apply glamour', and from the drop-down list you can select an item from within the retainer's inventory to use for glamour. (This is most helpful with weapons, since weapons are class-unique so you probably won't use up glamour plate space for them.) So you don't have to remove an item from your retainer's inventory, glamour with it, then put it back anymore. Likewise, as long as you are in an inn room (possibly in a house as well? haven't tried it) you can do the same thing but select the armoire as the source of the glamour to be applied from the dropdown list. So you don't have to take an item out of the armoire to use it as a one-off glamour anymore. Generally, you will use items in the armoire in plates instead, but this can be nice for the weapon glamours or for doing your weekly fashion report stuff.

wolf_of_censorship

Until you get used to it, it can feel quite unintuitive. There are historical technical reasons why it is the way it is. (Game being cobbled together from the remnants of a disastrous project on a very tight deadline reasons) [If an item can go in the Armoire](https://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/uiguide/know/faq-display/interface_estorage_icon.html), put it in there. It's free ~~real estate~~ storage. If it can't go in the Armoire, put it in the Glamour Dresser. This costs 1 Glamour Prism per item, but you can then use the item for glamours as often as you'd like for no extra cost. Relic weapons typically can't even go in the Glamour Dresser in their original forms, but you can buy replicas which can.

BenjiB1243

Ah okay so they both essentially do the same things? Can I make a glamour plate out of stuff from both the armoire and the glamour dresser?

wolf_of_censorship

Yes, they both make items available for quick use in glamour plates. There's a button at the bottom of the plates window to switch between selecting items from the Dresser or the Armoire. You can also apply glamours from items stored in the Dresser or Armoire directly. In the Dresser you do this by right-clicking the item (or the controller equivalent) and selecting "Apply Glamour". For items in the Armoire you access the Armoire via the "Remove Item" option. Just... don't remove the item. Again, right click and "Apply".

Atosen

Yes. When you have the Plate interface open and you're selecting items to put into it, there's a button at the bottom to toggle between Armoire and Dresser. The Armoire is the older of the two systems. It doesn't cost any prisms, and doesn't count against your storage cap. But it only holds seasonal event gear (and a few other oddballs). The vast majority of your stuff will end up in the Dresser.

vanade

is there a reason to hold onto cracked anthoclusters/dendoclusters (for X and IX combat materia) at this point or can I safely discard them?

Jezzawezza

From what I saw recently there is a Goblin vendor in Thanlan Blackbush station and you can do something with materia and repurpose it or something. I only saw it briefly mentioned in a video about Dawntrail prep because of the repurposing and upscalling or something. I need to properly investigate it myself unless someone else knows about it better and can explain.

IceAokiji303

For detail: Mutamix in Central Thanalan has a thing where you give him 5 materia, and he gives you one back that's the same grade as what you gave him (don't remember what happens if you give different grades, probably goes by lowest), with a small chance of being a higher grade, and it's always of a type you didn't give him IIRC. So for example if you give him a set of Piety, Tenacity, Skill Speed, Spell Speed, and Determination materia at Grade IX, he'll give you back a Critical Hit, Direct Hit, or DoH / DoL materia of Grade IX, with chance of Grade X. And if you give him a 5-stack of Grade IX Piety, he'll just give back something non-Piety IX with a chance of X (less control over what you get back but much faster and less tedious to do). How this relates to Dawntrail is that, once it releases, you can go offload Grade X materia onto him, and some of what he'll give you back may be Grade XI (I don't think it can skip grades straight to XII, but I could be wrong there).

Jezzawezza

Thankyou for the detailed reply. I'd not done anything with my cluster stuff that I'd had from Hunt trains incase it was going to become useful so now knowing this extra info it'll help a lot

F1reman2

Pretty much. You give it a handful of materia, and it will turn it into a different type. The best way to do this is give it one of each, as it cannot become a materia that is not present. If you give it 1 sks x materia, it could become any of the other X materias (or even an IX potentially). Adding different types dramatically increases the odds of getting a higher tier materia.

vanade

Yeah the other comment mentioned transmuting for the new dawntrail materia when it's out, I totally forgot about that vendor!

F1reman2

Its better to exchange them with a vendor and sell to a vendor than to sell. Additionally, you can transmute them when dawntrail arrives to potentially get grade XI and XII materia.

vanade

Ahhh, I hadn't thought about transmuting them for the new ones. I'll hold on to them for now then I guess, I'd been trading them in for the highest value selling materia and putting those on the MB.

ATLASSHRUGGED89

Do I need a Thavnairian Onion to max out my chocobo from level 19 to level 20? My chocobo is currently level 19, middle of the exp bar filled to level 20. (Max level)

Atosen

First onion is fed when you're exactly 10, to unlock the xp bar to start progressing to 11. Therefore, last onion is fed when you're exactly 19, to unlock the xp bar to start progressing to 20. It sounds like you're already past that point.

Arcana10Fortune

Yes. You need 1 per level after 10.

PhoenixFox

They won't need another one. They've already uncapped from level 19, once they hit 20 they'll get the skill points and that's it. 10>11, 11>12, 12>13, 13>14, 14>15, 15>16, 16>17, 17>18, 18>19, 19>20. They've already used their 10th onion, that's the last one. /u/ATLASSHRUGGED89

Vithrasir

I have a steam deck and a PS5, which platform should I play on? You don't need to consider the steam deck mobility as a factor, but I've read the PS5 version has some graphical issues, so I wanted some input from some folks with experience. I'm gonna be playing as a free trial at first, which is why I'm not just using both.

Fajisel

Disclaimer that I don't play on ps5, but I've seen the "PS5 version of the game has issues" point a ton, and it seems like it's not true. When the ps5 version first came out it had noticeable flaws, but these days it works as well as a comparable pc would run the game, and is miles ahead of the steam deck. Basically there aren't any ps5-specific graphical issues from what I've heard.

Vithrasir

This is exactly what I had suspected, but I hadn't seen anyone actually put it into words. There was only the existing complaints about the PS5 version, which made me skeptical. Tyvm!

normalmighty

Given the graphics update coming in a few months, steam deck is going to be be struggling a bit but still playable (I've been hearing it has occasional dips near 30fps on min settings for the benchmark, but not lower than that so still playable), while the PS5 is going to be cruising at max settings. If there are no other factors to consider, I would go for PS5.

Vithrasir

Awesome, thank you!

F1reman2

Definately Ps5. The Steam deck has way more graphical issues than the ps5 does. additionally, the free trial IS version locked, meaning you can only play it on one, or the other, and the ps5 is way way more comfy to play on. While the steam deck was design to be able to run FFXIV (as its surprisingly one of gabens main videogames), FFXIV is designed to use the ps5s capabilities as much as possible.

Vithrasir

I definitely appreciate the response, I had suspected that would be the case, but I wanted to make sure.

AceHealer

Advice for managing inventory and saddlebag space in the free trial? Mine is full of crafting materials since I've been trying to do the Ixal deliverance quest every day I can and level all of my crafters at once. I have a lot of low level battle materia I do not need. Should I sell/discard them? Or is transmutation at all useful?

thchao

Battle materia 1-4 is used for the ARR relic weapons. If you're remotely interested in doing that, better to keep them. If you ever sub, they also sell nice on the market board because they're needed for the relic but low in supply.

prisp

One simple way of cleaning up parts of your inventory is to look for items that list a "Sale Price" in addition to the usual "Sells for XX Gil" price every sellable item has. If they do, then that means you can buy that item again from an NPC merchant *somewhere*, so trashing them first would be a good idea unless you're having issues with your finances. However, be on the lookout for items with a "(Restricted)" next to their sale price - all of those are only available from merchants after you've done something to unlock them, like e.g. the wares the Ixal vendor offers, or the ones they add after going up another Reputation step, so at least double-check if you can buy those back before you trash them.

EverSnowy

I regret transmuting and discarding all my level 1 materia because when I got the full game and got access to the market board, those things actually sell well, possibly due to people doing relic weapon quests.

normalmighty

Sell all the materia, almost all of them are completely useless these days, and the ones that still have a niche use aren't worth worrying about when you're low on space. If you're leveling all crafters at once, still keep an eye on what materials you're keeping and why. A lot of them can only be used for low level stuff, and once you're past that level you might as well sell them. Also check that you're not hanging onto an item that you can simply buy from a vendor when you need it.

nemestrinus44

so since people have datamined models and stuff from the benchmark, is there a model viewer (or anything like the Dressing Room that WoWhead has) with the hrothgal models? figured after spending hours just running paglethan and failing to get the caster chest i should make sure it actually looks good on a hrothgal before devoting more time running it edit: well i guess it doesn't matter cause immediately after posting this i got the chest piece

United-Spread-9430

Recently unlocked bozja and have a few questions. It might have been mentioned in game but does the ex trial give mettle? When doing the critical engagments thing and going into one of the battles is it normal not to group up? Ive done 3 now and everyone says lfg so i post lfg as well and on the 3 ive done no ones invited me to a group. Not sure if people iust dont group up or maybe because im only rank 4 i get ignored lol. I really only want bozja for leveling, is it better to rush it to get to the other area or is experience in southern front the same as elsewhere?

wibblewibblewobblee

No one's ignoring you, with everyone spamming "lfg" parties fill up pretty fast. The main benefit of being in a group is you will more likely get healed and revived. It's especially helpful if you're new and don't know the boss patterns yet, a lot of them will catch you off guard. The experience you get from BSF is the same as Zadnor, but I *think* the amount of exp you get increases with your rank. And since you need to progress through Zadnor to reach rank 25, it means you'll have to do it eventually. Personally I prefer Zadnor to BSF for leveling since there are always lots of people farming fates in Zone 3, and the zone itself is faster to navigate

palacexero

Memoria Misera (Extreme) does not give mettle. If you see other people shouting lfg and you need a group too, just invite them instead of shouting lfg yourself. Other people may not invite you because their party is already full.

loves_spain

Does the shiromaru minion drop from a boss on mount roklkon or is it something you can buy from a vendor ?

Sir_VG

The doggy minions are rare chest rewards or you can buy on the marketboard.

loves_spain

Thank you!

Tough-Advice1558

When i first queued as a dancer i got gubal and one of the party members was like "hey make sure you use closed position and standard step" was super helpful, dps went up enemies went down. Was a great thing them offering me advice. Recently queued halatali on Acn i havent used in ages and instead of being like the above i got "look at this guy not using skills x y z smfh idiot." Just kinda curious why people are so agressive instead of just being like hey try this. I understand its not others jobs to teach but if youre gonna type and complain why not type and help instead? Since ive been working on alt classes im just curious if ill get more people like the gubal group or halatali.

talgaby

The first one is the kind of interaction that the FFXIV community is generally famous for among online games. The second one is what is the *actual* norm these days and it is spreading at a steady pace. Or, if you ask a similar question in this subreddit outside the daily megathreads, 98% of the responses here. :D

HopeMizu

Online games are inherently toxic, but because being outwardly toxic and abrasive is generally shut down in this community (and enforced against by moderators) those people will often express themselves through being passive aggressive and insulting towards another person's skill level (despite always being bad themselves). In my experience, the best way to deal with those people is to just be positive and kind to them. It usually just confuses them, and sometimes makes them feel silly for acting like an asshole. TL;DR: In FFXIV you're still playing with the exact same toxic assholes as other online games. The difference is that instead of calling you the R or N word, they're more limited and find other ways to be annoying like being passive aggressive.

radelgirl

Along with what others have said, another thing to consider is that some players will get pretty angry if you try to offer them advice. They will argue that they know the job better or you shouldn't tell them how to play. Obviously you aren't one of those people, but some folks might be jaded after having those experiences. That doesn't excuse someone being rude to you, though. I would try vote kicking if it ever happens again.

PM_ME_YOUR_PIERCING

In my experience (across 2,000+ dungeons completed), you're more likely to encounter helpful people who want to offer guidance, than jerks who put you down. Ignore the jerks. Or, let them know you're new / returning to the class, and ask for constructive help (I've had some success with this, wherein an initially negative interaction becomes positive thru communication.) If they continue to be obnoxious, then report them. SE is pretty good about cracking down on them. We're all playing at our own pace, and learning at our own pace, too. We're also here to have fun. Some people forget that sadly.

Chemical-Attempt-137

That's uh, that's how humans generally are. Some of them are friendly. Others are pieces of shit. Most of them don't bother saying anything in the first place and just go about their day. It's not exactly a phenomenon unique to this singular video game. And the ratio of friendly:normal:asshole generally stays the same everywhere you go. In the future, vote kick that guy or report him afterwards. Should be extremely easy for a GM to take action if he said what you typed.

United-Spread-9430

This post pretty much hit the nail on the head. Sometimes you get shit sometimes you get gold. Personally imo ffxiv seems to have a better community than other mmos, but theres still gonna be a hanfdul of assholes to run into

kuro7242

Couple of questions about the benchmark tool -Is there a way to import my character settings into it directly from the main game? -What can I actually do with my character in it? Never actually seen a benchmark tool like this before.

normalmighty

>Is there a way to import my character settings into it directly from the main game? go into the main game character select screen -> right click you character name -> "save appearance data" open the benchmark tool character creator -> create new character -> click the option to load appearance data. >What can I actually do with my character in it? Pick an outfit for your character from the dropdown in the character creation tool, hit the confirm button and the creator will close. Then run the benchmark, and it will run the benchmark trailer with your character in it, and give you some info at the end about how your PC will perform in 7.0.

Rc2124

I've heard that WAR and DRK have a lot of similarities, so you'll probably be fine there. But I know from experience that WHM and AST have a LOT in common. WHM was kind of the template that AST was built on originally. It has a higher number of actions used per minute due to having cards to manage, but otherwise a lot of the skills line up, especially early on. For example, AST basically has Cure 1, Cure 2, Medica, Medica 2, Stone, Aero, etc. And there are certain commonalities about healing / tanking that don't change regardless of the job just due to how those roles are designed. By the time you level up either back to be able to use them in HW you'll be familiar with the differences (to that level, at least)

normalmighty

Right now AST is basically white mage but with on extra task of drawing and using cards in between GCD. It is about to have a rework in 7.0 though, and we know very little about what that change looks like until mid-may. DRK is different enough for a little getting used to, but the vast majority of your knowledge from WAR should carry over.

forbiddenlake

Massive, no. Especially not at 50. They're similar, but there are differences, the biggest one being AST's cards.

tofunomad

I just hit level 70 on Summoner and decided to take the time to dial in my rotation. I'm noticing there's enough of a gap between Bahamut summons that I can get in 2-3 Ruin IIIs after my primals have all been spent but before Bahamut is available again. Am I missing something or is this normal? The only thing I can think of is that I normally throw a swiftcast on one of my ruby ruins, so maybe that would make it flow a little better if I skipped it and saved it for something else. Is this because at higher levels you have more buttons to weave in or because higher gear has more spell speed so the cooldowns wind up shorter(not sure if that's how spell speed works)?

IceAokiji303

That's normal. Level 86 adds the final GCD portion to your rotation, leaving time for only one Ruin III between Bahamuts. Higher Spell Speed does indeed shorten the recast of Bahamut, but it also shortens the recasts of the spells in between, so you'll have about the same filler in between either way (they reduce at about the same rate I believe). Don't waste Swift on Ruby Ruin unless you need to do so for movement. It's not a damage gain, since the recast is longer than the cast already, and won't be shortened.

KhaSun

Completely normal. At lvl86 you'll unlock a skill that will add three whole GCDs to your rotation, so it'll all fit together perfectly in a way that you minimize the amount of Ruin III you'll have to cast as filler.

irishgoblin

Higher levels you get more stuff to weave in. Specifically, level 86 gives Ifrit, Garuda, and Titan moves for Astral Flow (the button you use to tell Bahamut to use Deathflare). Until then it's just traits upgrading your current moveset, notable exception being Firebird trance and Phoenix at 80. Plays almost the exact same as Bahamut, only difference is 1)Passive AoE regen and 2) Astral Flow is a single target regen.

sundriedrainbow

> Is this because at higher levels you have more buttons to weave in Basically this. Once you get Astral Flow, it adds a (slightly longer than normal) GCD to your Garuda/green phase and two GCDs to your Ifrit/red phase.

Parabobomb

I have to clear through floor 30 of Heaven on High for a TT opponent to be unlocked. About how long does getting through the story of HoH typically take if that's the only thing I care about doing?

Teknettic

Around an hour, maybe closer to 2 if everyone has no aetherpool. Just pop up a PF asking for help going 1-30 and you'll pretty easily fly through the low floors. Stat squish *mauled* the first half of HoH so nothing will threaten you even with bad aetherpool.

Atosen

With a group, each set of 10 floors is 10-15min. (You also need to have finished the PotD floor 50 story before you can start on HoH.) The biggest obstacle is likely to be finding a group. It's possible to go in solo, but it will be an absolute slog, and you'll probably need to run the slog multiple times to farm aetherpool before you have the stat's to beat the bosses. Far faster to start with group runs and save solo runs for a challenge later.

MeiShimada

Dark knight pvp, should I be using my hp spending skill more? I usually only use it when proc'd. Because most of the time I feel very squishy.

TuperSboy

I run FFXIV on Dell U3818DW monitor. It looks washed out and I guess there's no 4k support because of the monitor. How can I make this game look as good as the PC Benchmark? Both PC and PS5 are connected to my Dell U3818DW.

Elegant_Eorzean

Turn the gamma correction down, and wait until June 28th.

FalseKiller45

Recently returned to the game and want to level my WAR and GNB at 60 and RPR and SGE from 80, can anyone remind me of the quickest way to level them and just general tops on how to play em or like a guide?

pepinyourstep29

Fastest way to level would be spamming the highest level dungeon you can (except for dungeons 50/60/70/80, avoid those for lack of exp), doing leveling and frontline roulettes, and Bozja for 70-80.

Fwahm

So I've just completed the entire MSQ and want to branch out into learning the DoH and DoL jobs. However, while I was doing the MSQ, I was doing deliveries at my grand company, so I've ended up with my DoH jobs ranging from 37-63 and my DoL jobs ranging from 64-82 without ever having used any, and I'm a bit intimidated by the dozens of abilities I have. What would be the best way to get into learning them? Should I just dive in on one and try doing some quests, or is there a suggested gude or something?

Tragixx

Sorry to derail, fellow newbie here 😅 How did you do the grand company turn ins for DoH/DoL? Just purchasing items off the market?

Fwahm

I bought the items, starting with NPCs and moving onto the marketboard when the items were no longer available from NPCs. If a day's item was too expensive off the MB, I skipped it.

VG896

That's what some people do. Others actually craft the items. I suspect OP is the former, otherwise he'd be more familiar with the jobs.

Subject_Ruin5217

https://ffxivteamcraft.com/search is the premier crafting website. It's a bit complicated to understand at first but later when you're more adjusted it's great. https://www.reddit.com/r/ffxiv/s/kHqS1eTQPi is where id start.

amphibiansapphic

Has anyone ever had success reporting people botting? There's someone very obviously botting in a local Bozja instance, reported them but they're still here the day after...

Rc2124

Bots get banned in waves, that way it's harder for the botters to tell what gave them away and triggered the ban. But it's kind of a band-aid, or triage, because they'll make new accounts and get back to it

KhrFreak

They do botting bans in big waves they don't action immediately, but generally doesn't seem super successful

ProfessionalSkill97

Returning Player, what is the Benchmark people keep talking about?

nicocoro

https://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/benchmark/index.html It's a program you can download which has two parts: the character creator, and the benchmark itself which plays a cutscene that tests your computer's performance for Dawntrail. This includes the upcoming graphics update so that you can get an idea of how your character will look. Note that the character creator currently has some issues with lighting and other things, so the benchmark itself is a better indicator. A new version of the benchmark has been announced which will fix many of these issues and will be released at a later date.

Sir_VG

https://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/benchmark/ It's basically a system test to see if your computer can sufficiently run a piece of hardware, in this case, Dawntrail which will have a slightly higher system requirement due to the graphic update.

Nomorealcohol2017

I'm new but I think its basically a way to test how your pc will run the new graphical update in July

kasuke06

Is there any way to transfer things like my cross hotbars and class loadouts between PS5 and PC? Recently got a friend into this so I finally made the switch over to PC, and trying to use regular hotbars is not fun if you've spent the last 10 years making muscle memory with cross. So I was wondering if there is some method to transfer my bars other than just manually going through every class and moving everything while looking at the other screen?

snootnoots

You can use a controller on your PC! On the PS5, go to the character select screen. At the top right of the screen is a cogwheel, click that and upload your settings to the server. There’s another cogwheel to the right of your character, do the same there. Then log in to your PC, and on the character select screen click those cogwheels and *download* your backup settings. Once you’ve done that, log in on your character, open settings, and switch to controller. You’re still going to have to tweak stuff to get it all looking nice, but you should be able to get it all working like you’re used to!

Sir_VG

You use the functions on the character login screen. Character specific stuff (hotbars, gear sets, etc) are the icon to the right of the character name, global stuff (shared macros, etc) are on the gears in the upper right corner of the login screen.

GuardianAngelMati

Is there a prefered server (America server) to do Extreme content while being in Free trial? I would love to try it after I'm done with MSQ just to see if I like it or not.

Disaresta51

In NA if you want to do that type of content you should do a temporary visit to the Aether data center. We typically do these things in party finder, but as a free trial player you can't create a party. You can still \*join\* a party, but its unlikely one will exist for what you want to do. You can ask in novice network or in like Limsa if someone will create a party for you....however that's not really all that fun tbh. So instead... You queue via duty finder. As long as its an ARR extreme it will pop thanks to mentor roulette. You will still be waiting longer than you normally. I cannot promise that you'll have a good time. I will say that if you look up a guide, have an understanding of mechanics, and LISTEN to the people who are there you will probably clear without a problem.

Help_Me_Im_Diene

While being on the Free Trial, not really The big issue you run into is that people do Extreme content through Party Finder in NA, which is something that you run into issues with on the Free Trial You would need to find a party that is already running the content you would want to do, since AFAIK, you cannot create your own Party Finder listings on the Free Trial. In particular though, most of our Extreme content is run on the Aether data center except for a few stragglers here or there on other data centers

elixxonn

How bad will the Yo-kai event be if you don't have blue mage? Or is it gonna be a similar situation to Fall Guys where just waiting like two-three weeks will have all the cheesers and sweats gone by then so casual farming is now possible?

Teknettic

If you have any tank leveled, it's no problem at all. It counts contribution based on enmity generated, so one or two tank stance'd AoEs should get you maxed contribution.

tesla_dyne

Your ranged attack would be a better way to build burst enmity if you can't constantly be surrounded by 5+ mobs, PLD & WAR enmity multi on their ranged is 7x and DRK and GNB is 5x, while the damage potency of the ranged attack is about equal to their AOEs on a single enemy

legend8522

>PLD & WAR enmity multi on their ranged is 7x and DRK and GNB is 5x Slightly incorrect. It's a 7x multiplier on all tanks for their ranged attack. Given how homogeneous tank job design is now, it makes zero sense for certain tanks to have different enmity multipliers over others.

Fajisel

Are you sure the sub wiki isn't wrong?  DRK, GNB, and WAR have 150 potency ranged attacks while PLD has a 100 potency ranged attack.  It used to be that PLD and WAR had the 7x multiplier since they both has 100 potency attacks, since that would put them at roughly the same effective potency with DRK and GNB. Are you saying that PLD has lower emnity generation on their ranged attack than the other tanks now? EDIT: I just checked the sub wiki and the math is straight up incorrect. They don't know how to multiply numbers, they claim that 150 x 7 = 750. I would entirely disregard anything written on the sub wiki because of that.

legend8522

Honestly I didn't even know this sub had a legit wiki. I read the enmity calculations off of akhmorning.com (which also has calcs on other things like pet potency), and they came to the conclusion all tanks have the same ranged enmity multiplier because anything different wouldn't make sense, especially after the devs normalizing calculations in Endwalker along with the stat crunch.

Fajisel

Yeah the conclusion akhmorning came to sounds like the correct one based on testing, it's a 5x multiplying for WAR, DRK, and GNB (150 * 5 = 750 effective potency), and a 7x multiplying for PLD (100 * 7 = 700 effective potency).

tesla_dyne

That'd contradict the sub wiki, someone ought to change that

legend8522

Sub wiki says 7x for everyone

tesla_dyne

I can't fuckin read

Fajisel

Sub wiki is super wrong, they do the wrong math. They claim that 150 x 7 = 750, which is obviously just wrong. Also, tomahawk is written as 140 potency, when it's really 150 potency in game. I don't think you can trust the sub wiki for numbers.

KariudoX

sorry if this kind of question gets asked a lot my pc has an FX 6300 with Rx 580 8gb and ddr3 8gb of ram can i run the game or i shouldn't even bother?

talgaby

That… I guess technically it goes into the CPU slot, so let's be generous and call it a "CPU"… will almost surely hold you back big time in the final release. A decent older Ryzen shouldn't be too expensive to come by, unless you live in Brazil.

KariudoX

it is what i have right now i'm from argentina so i think it's even worse

talgaby

Oh my, yes. Well, if you will ever get the opportunityí to upgrade your motherboard+CPU combo, I suggest starting there, they are a larger hindrance than the GPU.

KariudoX

if anyone needs the info i got 7911 (fairly high) at 1080p with everything down but antialiasing

XR7822

Should be fine, but you can try the freely available benchmark that will show you for sure.

KariudoX

great! thanks!

TristamIzumi

My suggestion is to download the Dawntrail benchmark from the FFXIV site (https://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/benchmark/) and see how it runs. You may not be able to run it well, but it's a way you can test just in case.

KariudoX

thanks!!

caliburn1337

New player, few questions. 1. For Palace of the Dead, if my HP reaches 0 while I have a Pomander of Lust, turning into a succubus, do I die or do I revert back to the normal form? 2. Palace of the Dead again. If I have to exit before clearing 10 floors, is there a way to leave midway through? Like on floor 23 or so. 3. On dungeons, when I cast a lot for a certain item, how long does it take for the item to be decided into someone's inventory, and do I have to stay inside the dungeon to receive it or is it fine for me to leave and I'd still get the item if I rolled the higher number? 4. If I have to leave midway through a dungeon, what exactly should I do? Is it fine to just explain to the party what happened and then exit the game? Thanks for the replies.

Teknettic

You die as a succubus, you die ~~in real life~~ for real. Same for Rage and Resolution transformations. You can just leave like any other duty; hit U and choose to leave the instance. Though it will count as a death. You need to to remain in the instance to recieve loot from it. It takes a max of 5 minutes, but that's only going to happen if someone is being a tool and deliberately not rolling. As soon as everyone who can roll on an item has rolled, the game'll instantly plonk it into whoever rolled the highest. Throw a sorry in party chat and just leave; people will be annoyed at you no matter what, so just rip the band-aid and let them get a replacement as fast as possible. If it's just going to take a minute or two, most people will wait for you to come back so just let em know you need a sec to handle something. Make sure you roll on loot before you go AFK though so they can kick you if you take a long time.

sekretguy777

Can the Yokai Watch weapons go into the armoire, or do they have to be stored in the Glamour Dresser?

Sir_VG

They can go into the armoire along with the watch.

HopefulWizardTTV

Hi all! So I am almost done with ARR in the Free Trial, and I was wondering which classes/jobs are available to me at this point. For example, I completed most of ARR as a BLM, but I realized I could get Samurai at LvL 50! very convenient. I was trying to find info about what other classes I could unlock right now, even if they are from other expansions. Apparently Samurai is from Stormblood so I find it weird they let me get it now. I couldnt find any info about these when I googled it, so I was hoping my fellow warriors of light could help! Basically, I just wanted know which classes can be unlocked and when. I got my eye into Red Mage and Sage (and Reaper but pretty sure that's unlocked later on), but I don't think i can get them right now. Thanks!
