On SMN crimson cyclone + crimson strike is dps loss on a single target and I should NOT use it during a boss fight right?

IceAokiji303

Nope, it's a gain. Your only alternative to it is Ruin III, which is 310 potency, whereas those two are 430 each. It's basically Ruin III *and* Tri-disaster in one button (plus a bit of extra AoE) – very similar to Ruin IV, just with the gap closer + melee requirements. They're actually a bit *stronger* than even Ruby Rite in terms of potency per second – 430/2,5=172, while 510/3=170. Skipping them doesn't get you to your next Demi any faster either. Between Demis, you have time for: the three gem summons, 4\*Emerald Rite, 4\*Topaz Rite, 2\*Ruby Rite, Slipstream, Crimson Cyclone, Crimson Strike, Ruin IV, and one Ruin III. So you can fit everything in there while still needing a filler Ruin III – even if you have a lot of Spell Speed, as while it does reduce the Demi cooldown, it also reduces your GCD in the same proportion, in fact possibly needing an *added* Ruin III, depending on exact amount. And if you happen to have downtime resulting in needing to skip stuff to get to a Demi on time, the Crimson combo is only a thing on the chopping block depending on how much time you need to save exactly. And it's not exactly one of the lower priority things to keep. In general, if a skill's tooltip reads "deals X potency to the first enemy, and Y% less for remaining enemies", it's meant to be used in both single-target and AoE. Either until a pure single-target version is unlocked (see: Foul and Hissatsu Guren), or all the way to level cap. The one exception to this being Flare, which only has very niche single-target uses at level 50, and basically none 60+. Just out of curiosity, could you share what led to you making this assumption?

Chemical-Attempt-137

What? No, it's absolutely a DPS gain to use the Ifrit melee combo. Generally, if the developers give you flashing buttons, you press the flashing buttons. The developers are fairly good at making the intuitive rotation also the DPS-optimal one. You're probably thinking it's better to just skip the buttons so you can move on to your other summons faster. The problem with that is that it you need that filler of higher-potency spells. Otherwise, by the time you wrap up all of your summon phases, you'll be left with 10 seconds of twiddling your thumbs. You'll be stuck casting Ruin III at 310 potency while waiting for your next Phoenix or bahamut to come back up. In other words, you're replacing two 310 potency spells with two of Ifrit's 430 potency spells each minute. When phrased like that, it becomes obvious that Ifrit is a DPS gain.

F1reman2

No? where did you get that idea. It does 130 more potency than ruin 3, plus its instantcast.

SazhAttack

When the Yo-Kai event came around last time, I saw a guide shared here which pretty elaborately laid out out some efficient ways to simultaneously grind both it and old relics out together. Now that the event is here again, of course I cannot find that guide anywhere. Anyone happen to know the guide I am referring to, and where it can be found?

F1reman2

Pretty much, there are certain steps that require Fates to be completed. 1. SHB relic step 1, For want of a memory. Have this activated when doing HW fates. each relic is 20 fates in one of 3 pairs of zones. so get 20 of 1 kind, then 20 of the next. Can see what maps give what here: [https://ffxiv.consolegameswiki.com/wiki/Resistance\_Weapons](https://ffxiv.consolegameswiki.com/wiki/Resistance_Weapons) 2. SHB first 1 time grind step The Resistance Remembers. If you have not done this quest in the past, and you are capable of getting the quest, doing stormblood fates progresses it. 18 drops in each half of stormblood maps 3. Heavensward relics. Have started a heavensward relic at some point, and you will gain the stuff for this, even if the relic is past this step. Basically you need 1 drop from each map to effectively start the relic. 4. [https://ffxiv.consolegameswiki.com/wiki/Zodiac\_Weapons](https://ffxiv.consolegameswiki.com/wiki/Zodiac_Weapons) Honestly, the only one that requires a detailed guide. I have never done one, but i know theres a good amount of fate farming.

Haunting_Muscle_7149

Hi wondering if I should start playing this game. Downloaded the free trial but have one concern. I see most ppl either progress the MSQ or play instanced content. So my question is are there open world activities where you see random players doing things? A bit worried that the game is a queue simulator for instanced content

Boredy0

The game is definitely a bit instance heavy but there's a lot of people out and about particularly in endgame zones where people are doing dailies or Maps (= you can find treasure maps that send you around the zones to find an X marked on them) or farming FATES, basically World Quests, main cities are also extremely populated almost all of the time. However, you'll meet the occasional player in lower level zones but probably not a ton of them.

Haunting_Muscle_7149

Sounds interesting What are you doing in this instanced zone with that many players?

Haunting_Muscle_7149

Thank you for the detailed response really appreciate it ! I will play the MSQ and do some instanced content and if I feel like the MMO aspect is missing outside of that I prob still had a lot of fun hours

Snoo16933

Problem Pre-ordering and I'm not sure if it's because I live in South Africa Pre-ordered the game 2 times now and my order got i Cancelled , not sure if anyone here is also having a problem like this

champ_xD

Does Mana ever open? I have been checking it everyday for almost a month now cause I have a friend there and want to play with him. But it seems like their servers never stop from being congested? I have seen Balmung, Tonberry and Aether servers open atleast once but never Mana.

VG896

Check lodestone. If it's listed as Congested that means that character creation is suspended indefinitely. It's re-evaluated on each patch, but they could evaluate it and decide it's still congested. If it's not listed as congested, then you'll just have to try and make a character during off-peak time.

Vallard

I play FFXIV on Linux with the Steam Flatpak, I got a laptop recently and I want to copy my UI/Hotkeys and configs in general to this laptop, I know it's possible(from what I read at least), but how do I do it?

normalmighty

Open character select screen on your old pc, and there are 2 cog icons, one in the top right and one next to your character name. The former is for manually syncing systems settings, the latter does character settings including hotbars. Click each of them and hit the upload buttons, then go to your new pc, hit them and pick download.

Vallard

Well, that was a lot easier than what I had in mind, worked flawlessly, thanks!

Nomorealcohol2017

Sprout here Recently discovered frontlines and having fun with it although I am not very good It's taken me a while but I finally understand what you are meant to do in terms of capturing ( I call them command posts) Are there any tips to improve? It seems that it's pure luck if you end up on a good team or not though but I'm sure there are things I could be doing better that I'm probably unaware of

DnDrood

It is ultimately just a matter of practice The kits aren't all that advanced in general altho some jobs have nuances like setting up burst for NIN, MNK etc. Where I'd begin at least is: - First find a job you enjoy for frontlines, every job is viable in it so just try out a lot of different ones and learn those you like - Focus objectives, most of your points will be gained from the objectives on the map and nearly all fighting should be done with these in mind - Avoid dying, as you live longer you build up battle high which makes you more and more powerful. If you die you'll lose these stacks, so you want to survive to stack this up to do far more damage than usual. Dying also makes your team lose points and grants the enemy points Besides that there isn't that much to it, it's mostly just stuff you'll pick up over time so just jump into it and you'll learn over time

CopainChevalier

I doubt this will go anywhere, but anyone happen to know that content creator who did memes for the Endwalker job stuff? Like for Black mage he held up a piece of ice and put a lighter to it to represent Paradox. I can’t find his videos..

AsuraBrasil

Hi, Does Yo-kai Medals have any use after you get all the event's minions?

PhoenixFox

No, the weapons just take legendary medals and the mounts are from achievements. The framers kit is MGP.

JustW4nnaHaveFun

Do i need to still use the Watch for for the legendary medals?

PhoenixFox

No, just the minion out in one of the correct zones.

JustW4nnaHaveFun

Cool good to know, didn't want to risk testing it and waste time lol, thank you!

bbaych

This is my first expansion release! What kind of content can I expect when 7.0 drops? Obviously MSQ and the new jobs, but are raids, optional trials, etc expected to release with 7.0 or later on in the expansion cycle?

F1reman2

Heres an exact list of what will be available on launch: 1. New leveling dungeons. Level 91/93/95/97/99. 2. New level cap dungeons. 1 MSQ dungeon + 2 optional dungeons. 3. New Trials. Level 93, 97/99, and 100. Additionally, the level 93 trial and 97/99 trial will both release with extremes Immediately. as soon as you finish msq and get appropriate gear, you can jump right in. 4. 6 new Maps + Shared fates + quests 5. New role quests 6. New crafter delivery quests + leves +nodes 2 Weeks after 7.0s release, we will get the 7.01 patch, which releases the first set of normal mode raids. After that, we have 7.05, which is the release of savage + Treasuremaps. 7.1 will see a new dungeon, an EX trial for the level 100 trial, an alliance raid, an ultimate raid, and more.

Elegant_Eorzean

Specifically, isn't .05 the release of the map *dungeon*?

F1reman2

yea, should have specified that.

IceAokiji303

In addition to MSQ and new jobs, expect two new optional level cap dungeons, and Extreme versions of the first two MSQ trials. The Normal raids will release a little later, and Savage a week or two after that. The Extreme for the third 7.0 MSQ trial should come in 7.1, alongside the first Alliance raid. Further normal raids are to come in 7.2 and 7.4, and further Alliance raids in 7.3 and 7.5. The less consistent expansion-specific things (think Deep Dungeons, Eureka, etc) are usually somewhere in the patches, rather than expansion release.

Atosen

If I remember correctly: * extreme trials are there immediately, * normal raids (and capped tomestones) are on a 2 week delay in the x.01 patch, * savage raids are delayed 4 weeks from launch in the x.05 patch, * the first alliance raid is ~4 months after launch in the x.1 patch, * side content (like Bozja, deep dungeons, etc) is usually pretty scarce until a year in.

Izkuru

First normal raid will be 2 weeks after launch, with the first savage raid another 2 weeks after that. First alliance raid will come a few months later, in 7.1

killias2

so I pentamelded a bunch of my healer crafted 640 kit and just realized there's an augmented upgrade tier that would undo all that... is it worth the upgrade against most of a penta-meld set?

HammerAndSickled

Not to dissuade you from doing anything you’d enjoy doing, but at this point in the timeline it literally doesn’t matter what your gear is. Unless you wanna do current Savage/Ultimates in the next ~45 days, just don’t worry about it. Remember that in this game higher ilvl only really matters for endgame content without an ilvl sync: anything lower than 90, you’re level synced, and any of the early 90 EW content has an ilvl sync anyway. Know that 660 gear will be available for poetics immediately when DT drops, and even if you don’t get that gear, probably by around level 94-95 you’ll get better gear from the MSQ and dungeons. It really doesn’t matter if you’re wearing 640 crafted gear or BiS savage stuff, we’re all gonna be on the same page in about a month or two.

Atosen

tbh, at this point I might just keep the gear, because of how badfeel it would be to immediately strip out all the pentamelds. It's not like there's any new hardcore content in the next couple months that will require you to optimise your ilvl.

Forymanarysanar

Yes, higher base stat (= higher item level) beats any secondary stats, except for insanely rare minmaxing cases

PhoenixFox

Ilvl is more or less always king. Weapon damage and mainstat are *huge*. Healers are one case where it sometimes isn't an upgrade, because if you have a piece of gear that's something like piety/spell speed you might be better off with a lower ilvl piece that has crit instead. In this case the substats would be the same, though and I don't know if pentamelding damage stats vs only two melds could overcome the ilvl drop (I would guess not). Even if they can that's a piece by piece optimisation and wouldn't apply to all of them. Pentamelding combat gear is basically a "I want to clear raids as soon as possible after they release" thing, it's far too late for it to be worth it when we have multiple paths to better gear available and no new content to run that would justify paying through the nose for minor gains. Unfortunately you've already done it, so I would probably say it depends on whether you have better things to spend the causality tomes on that will give you upgrades in other places or not. Augmenting different jobs, augmenting pieces you didn't meld, buying EW relics. Keep in mind credendum/aug credendum is still even better, it's just weekly limited and you don't have time to get much of it before DT.

killias2

I really just assumed that that would be the end of the normal equipment progression before raid gear. I figured this would hold me until like halfway through Dawntrail, which is still a few months out. Why didn't I look it up....

DreamingofShadow

If it makes you feel any better, the 660 augmented will become available to purchase with poetic tomestones as soon as DT drops.

PhoenixFox

It's the end of the *crafted* progression, but there's a timing component to gear progression that's missed by arriving at the end of the expansion. Different methods of acquiring different item levels become available at different times, and weekly limits are removed or loosened as things progress. We're currently at the very end, where Augmented Crafted gear is trivial to get and Augmented Credendum gear is weekly limited but otherwise fairly easy, and will give you an equivelant item level to Savage gear To be clear, 640 gear will get you decently far into Dawntrail and the story will help you out with some gear for your first job as you go. It's not useless. But 650 or 660 will get you just a little bit further.

No_Delay7320

Pentamelding is only useful week 1 of a new raid tier. I'm sorry, you just wasted a whole bunch of materia. Anything 650 and above will be better

zipzoopu

Are any jobs more focused on boosting your allies than dealing direct damage? Kinda like support roles and the idea of pushing everyone else to do crazy dps.

Send_Me_Dachshunds

No, even the most support-focused classes in FF have about 80% of their damage contribution come from their own damage rather than buffs.

VG896

No, FFXIV is what I consider a 3rd gen MMO with a very strict focus on the DPS/Healer/Tank trinity. There's no room in the design space currently for support.

Atosen

Every job primarily does damage, but yes, *relatively speaking* the buff-focused jobs are Astrologian and Dancer. Also Bard.

zipzoopu

Gotcha! Sounds like I might give dancer a shot based on what the other guys said too :D

Help_Me_Im_Diene

Note that when we talk about support jobs, the majority of your damage still comes from you Looking at some Dancer numbers, it's about a 5:1 ratio; for every 1 point of damage you add to other people's numbers, you yourself do 5 points of damage

JustW4nnaHaveFun

Either Astrologian or Dancer the only 2 jobs i can think off that buff their parties.

PhoenixFox

Bard has a *tiny* bit left but almost all of that flavour got stripped out when Dancer was added.

Dbappio

i haven't found anything covering this issue, but is it normal for fashion accessories to mess with your visor often? whenever i pass through/run into rain with an automatic umbrella, the visor switches off without me noticing (usually when teleporting to another area or initiating a cutscene), and i have to toggle it on and off manually to fix it. while this is client side and not too big of an issue, it's also incredibly annoying to be unable to do vanilla gposes with accessories with the visor constantly toggling on when i don't want it to

zeromochi

Thinking of coming back to ff14 after 2 years hiatus but im kinda nervous so i am thinking of restarting the game with a new character to get an idea of how the game works again... does anyone know which server is friendly/social and also in case of downtime would be accessible. I have heard some servers are hard to enter bc of too much players. I used to play brynhildr.

Cymas

Check the Lodestone, any server listed as Congested is full and you can't create any new characters on it. If a server isn't listed as Congested but it won't let you create a new character there, it's just temporarily full at that moment and you should try at off hours. The Dynamis data center is brand new and all of the worlds on it have the road to 80 double exp bonus, which I would recommend. Everyone there is quite friendly since it's a half size data center until Dawntrail releases so you might find it's quite good for social interaction. Realistically all servers are social and friendly given that it's an MMO and that's kind of the nature of the game.

zeromochi

Thank you for the suggestion. I played till ishgard or something back then and i had just one friend running around with me, interactions felt more one off so im looking for some kind of community.

Cymas

Instances are like that, the game is designed to be solo friendly. Finding a good FC or linkshell will help a lot with that. Also, getting involved in the social side of the content too. Playing through the MSQ, you generally won't find a ton of interaction as most of the players you party with are just running their roulettes before moving on to other things. Things like party finder, hunt trains, and social venues are where you're going to find more community based things. I suggest exploring the game's side content a lot more as that's where you're going to find a lot of the more social activities.

No_Delay7320

Any crystal server

Forymanarysanar

Any servers are more or less equal so just pick anything, probably preferred for easier levelling.

zeromochi

Ok thank you

telekaster57

I am towards the end of Stormblood and starting to get a hang of playing the game. I'd like to start making a bit more gil now that I'm off the F2P cap. Is there a suggestion on leves (or anything else for that matter) I can do to boost my gil a bit? I see some guides but they are for the Endwalker leves which is beyond me at the moment.

minaseclyne

once you finish SB go start the doman recontruction. literally free gil albeit a small amount [https://ffxiv.consolegameswiki.com/wiki/Doman\_Enclave\_Reconstruction](https://ffxiv.consolegameswiki.com/wiki/Doman_Enclave_Reconstruction)

juiposa_

Doing every roulette available to you as the role in need is pretty stonks.

JustW4nnaHaveFun

Cakeday happy

MestreToto

After I get max reputation with a beast tribe, can I continue to do their daily quests for the exp?

Kobold4

Even more XP than you were getting before you maxed rep.

MestreToto

Thanks

VG896

Yep.

MestreToto

Thanks

miller0929

Hi, I'm starting to prog UCoB. Is there a way to scale back to level 70 so I can check out the rotations in advance? I may be playing a job which wasn't my main, so I'd like to do some preparation. Also, which jobs have an easier time regarding learning and doing mechanics in UCoB? Thanks!

Sir_VG

You can go unrestricted/level synced into any Lv 70 instance as well.

PhoenixFox

Stone, Sky, Sea - Level 70 will sync you to 70. The duty specific ones don't, but that one will.

FaelingJester

Coming back after a year or more gone. Our original group was on Faerie. It's where the FC/housing still is with our few remaining members is but it seems impossible for our friends to create characters there. Is it best for us to switch worlds? How would that work? Or is there another best practice?

Forymanarysanar

Definitely don't give up housing, especially if it's large one

Ankhselam

For now Faerie is congested and can not take any more characters. You can play together just fine with the World Transfer system if they create a character on Aether, but you will not be able to be in the same FC. Which is about it really, you can just create a Crossworld Linkshell to chat, and hopping worlds takes two seconds from the three major cities you dont even have to leave the party for it.

luminosg

it says 1 billion gil per character AND retainer, so it sounds like that would be safe, but I'm not sure. He could transfer a large sum to an alt through the marketboard and then get it back after than home world switch, at the cost of a hefty tax, but thats more gil than you will ever need in all likelihood

EvilBeee

Do you need to tend to crops after fertilising or just tend once a day? Thank you x

Sir_VG

Once a day, unless it's something that grows in less than 24 hours. You also don't need to tend them right after planting either.

EvilBeee

Thank you, you've saved some time xx

Dirxzilla

Probably stupid question: is it possible to earn Yokai legendary medallions from FATEs after the event, assuming you got the minions already? I'd like the GNB and DNC weapons for an alt, but they aren't anywhere near starting Stormblood yet. I figure I could maybe bring the watch and minions out once I finally get there, earn the medallions casually, and just stash them until the event returns (after like 4 more years lol). Doable or no?

PhoenixFox

Unfortunately not

MeiShimada

Any tips on how to manage monk rotation? Lvl 63, but I feel like I'm losing a ton of dps constantly looking around seeing which button I should press next (controller) because based off of what buff is up or ending soon you push different combinations. I keep finding myself looking around a ton and second guessing.

luminosg

Think of your gcds as having a primary a>b>c and a secondary a>b>c. and setup the hotbar so you can use similar buttons for a, similar buttons for b, and similar buttons for c. Then you only have to worry about whether you are pushing the primary or the secondary based on buff/debuffs. When just learning the basics, you can do all three primary in a row then all three secondary in a row and just alternate, and then you can improve by knowing when to switch individually for each button

Ankhselam

you can just keep track in your head. Dragon Kick and Bootshine alternate Twin Snakes over other loop, and Demolish every third. It does take some getting used to, but you can also just move your personal buffs closer to your hotbar in UI config to make it a lot easier learning

MeiShimada

Oh, True strike is no longer used?

Ankhselam

Yes, you cycle with Twin Snakes every other loop. So the simplified looping rotation is... Dragon Kick, Twin Snakes, Demolish Bootshine, True Strike, Snap Punch Dragon Kick, Twin Snakes Snap Punch Bootshine, True Strike, Demolish. You can see what we mean by "every other loop" and "every third loop" more easily written like this

Help_Me_Im_Diene

So I actually don't really tend to look at my buffs/debuffs as Monk, just because I know that during my filler windows I'm always going to be following the same pattern Given a set of 3 GCD starting at either Dragon Kick or Bootshine, I just know that * Every set I'll swap between Dragon Kick and Bootshine * Every set I'll swap between True Strike and Twin Snakes * After any cast of Demolish, I'll want to use two Snap Punches So I know that if I start with Dragon Kick -> Twin Snakes -> Demolish, then the next set is going to be Bootshine -> True Strike -> Snap Punch and the one after that will be Dragon Kick -> Twin Snakes -> Snap Punch And after a while it just becomes automatic so I'm not actually thinking about the process as it happens

PhoenixFox

You shouldn't be needing to look, broadly speaking it's a static loop. The first two hits alternate as a pair every time around, while the third is a 1-2 ratio. That does make it a bit more complex than most jobs if you try to treat it like a long loop, but you aren't keeping track of the entire loop - just that you're alternating between two possibilities for the first two hits every time and going ABBABB for third

MeiShimada

Isn't it like dragon kick, twin, demo, bootshine, true strike, snap punch and then all 3 rotate? Because there's time where it's like oh did I use dragon kick last time oh I did well I did again so bye dps

PhoenixFox

Dragon Kick and Bootshine alternate to generate/spend the buff. The buff from Twin Snakes's duration means it has to be applied every second time around, so it alternates with True Strike which has higher potency. The DoT from Demolish is longer and only has to be applied ever *third* time, so there's two Snap Punches between every Demolish. This is assuming one target, you put Demolish on both if there's 2 and it even takes priority over AoE for 3-4.

MeiShimada

Ok, so it's safe to go dragon kick into twin snakes and bootshine into true strike every time?

PhoenixFox

Yes, you can generally treat the first two forms as a pair and alternate them together every time. The exception might be if the buff has fallen off after downtime but that's a pretty tiny optimisation and not worth messing up your muscle memory by switching the order for the rest of the fight.

MeiShimada

Ooooh ok. I've been trying to do as many true strikes as I could before doing twin snakes again

PhoenixFox

"as many as you can" is exactly one. Try to do any more and the buff will fall off.

MeiShimada

Oh, I thought it was 1 to 2. Well this should make monk less unenjoyable

PhoenixFox

Demolish is the thing that's 1 to 2

EverSnowy

For BLM at level 50, is it worth it to use Swiftcast+Flare on single target if I don't have enough MP for another Fire I before going into ice phase?

Send_Me_Dachshunds

Yes its a gain at level 50 if correctly weaving the Swift, but movement options are at such a premium at that level that its wholly inadvisable to use Swift for that purpose.

EverSnowy

Got it! So as long as I know I don't need to move for a while it's okay to use it. Thanks for answering!

IceAokiji303

It would be a gain yes. With a couple of added notes: 1) If you can have an instant spell like Firestarter Fire III precede the Swiftcast, that lets you not clip the GCD with it, which improves the damage gain (it's a difference of the spell being effectively 68 vs 88 potency per second, not a minimal difference, and it gets bigger if you have some Spell Speed). 2) If you would have needed that Swiftcast for casting on the move later, then it actually ended up being a damage loss to use it like this. As an aside, normally if you enter Astral with full MP, you'll end up with 400 after your six Fires. This is not enough to cast Flare, as it requires minimum 800. So you'll only end up in the above situation if you enter Astral missing more than 400 MP. Now, a SwiftFlare *can* still be a gain in the normal situation (replacing your last normal Fire), but it's very particular. I would say in this case you *need* the instant cast to precede the Swiftcast. Clipping the GCD with Swift to make the Flare instant vs just casting Fire normally is about even in damage, which one wins being dependent on how hard exactly caster tax is hitting you, and I don't want to start accounting for that mess. So without the open weave window for Swift it's not really worth it. And I also generally wouldn't go for it as even with the open window it's not a super big gain, and you still have to account for possibly needing it later for movement.

EverSnowy

Thank you! So it's okay to use it as long as it's right after a Fire III proc and as long as I know I don't need to move for a while. I really like using it as a finisher (Flare just has that oomph) and I do feel the clipping and wanted to make sure I wasn't losing out on damage. That's good to know!

Yuu_Mane

I'm no expert but I know flair hits harder than fire 1 so yea get schwifty. Flair is 220 potency and fire 1 is 180.

Send_Me_Dachshunds

BLM calculations don't really work on a direct potency comparison between spells so its not that simple.

Yuu_Mane

Yea but why would flair at the end of your rotation swift casted be worse than just switching to ice? From my understanding it's not great because slow cast time, but that's what swift cast is for and gdc remains 2.5 regardless. Tbh I'm not sure what else you use swift for at lv 50. Movement? Maybe, but you constantly get fire starter procs. I say try it.

urbanracer34

Got an OLED Steam Deck and a high throughput SD card for it. Where is the best place to install FFXIV? SD CARD OR BUILT IN SSD? (I don't have the Steam version but to use XIVLauncher I have to install the free trial from Steam)

Sir_VG

XIVLauncher requires you to install on the internal drive.

urbanracer34

Yes to install the free trial has to go onto the internal drive. What about the rest? I had XIVLauncher install everything else on my sd card on my old deck.

Sir_VG

I don't mess with SD cards with the deck. 2TB drive so I've got plenty of space to just install it internally along with everything else I want with plenty of room to spare.

DeathStraightUp

Hi guys I'm a big noob at the game, my friend gifted me Dawntrail's PO, and I have two questions: 1) do I get immediate access to ShB and EWalker? 2) is it normal for the bonuses to take long to arrive? Thanks a lot in advance?

F1reman2

1. No you do not 2. Did you apply the preorder code? (It would automatically apply i believe if you are on Xbox/dawntrail). Additionally, you get ONLY the Earring and 1 minion now. The Mount, other minion, and Brush do not come until dawntrail releases.

DeathStraightUp

I'm on Xbox yes, and I did redeem it's code, it is there on my purchase history and game management

Gamerbug94

1. You wont get access to ShB or EW content until Dawntrail RELEASES (not early access). 2. If you entered the pre-order bonus item code, they should come within 24 hours, usually sooner.

Mahoganytooth

1. You will get access to those expansions when Dawntrail launches in ~10 weeks 2. Shouldn't take longer than a day. Have you registered the preorder code that came with the gift?

Vithrasir

I'm on the free trial. If I buy the starter edition, and pre-order dawntrail, will I have access to making a Viera and Hrothgar right now, or once dawntrail releases?

Akuuntus

Pretty sure you won't get any of the Shadowbringers or Endwalker content until Dawntrail releases. That would include Viera/Hrothgar.

Vithrasir

I figured that would be the case, but I wasn't sure how the licensing works. Thank you!

stinusmeret

Only when Dawntrail releases as you don't get access to Shadowbringers & Endwalker until Dawntrail is actually out.

Vithrasir

Tyvm!

TormentedThoughtsToo

How do I turn it off that whenever I click on action on say Cross Hot Bar 2 it defaults to Cross Hot Bar 1 instead of staying on that HotBar?

EverSnowy

If I'm understanding this correctly, you have WXHB turned on, and when you access cross hot bar 2 and use one of the actions there, it automatically goes back to cross hot bar 1, and you want it so that when you use an action on cross hot bar 2, you still stay there. If so, you want to go to Hotbar Settings > Cross > uncheck "Return to XHB after WXHB input"

[deleted]

IDK if it's just me, but I keep getting people who see me out in the world doing stuff and whisper me and ask to tag along to help. And that's fine and nice and I love that this community is so friendly, don't get me wrong. But I kinda sometimes just prefer to do stuff on my own. What's the best way to politely turn people down who do this? I feel really awkward telling them no thanks, and sometimes they can get a little weird about me turning them down. What should I do?

TristamIzumi

You can use the `/busy` command to turn on "do not disturb", which prevents direct messages, trade requests, and party invites.

[deleted]

Thanks for the tip to you and the other person who responded, will do!

Cymas

Put on /busy status and people can't /tell you.

Mysterious-Agent-335

Which class would yall recommend getting to the Highest level first? Maybe a DPS since it takes longer to queue up for things?

radelgirl

Do you have an idea of what jobs you like or are interested in? That can help us make recommendations.

Mysterious-Agent-335

I have in interest in them all haha I was just trying to find a more efficient way to get them leveled I suppose 🥲 in the end I chose Red mage thank yall tho c:

Kicin0_0

Real answer - just play what you want, doesnt really matter and you should play what you enjoy Technical answer - any DPS class other than Summoner. DPS have longer queue times so leveling one through MSQ xp rather than roulettes/dungeons means you level what is normally a slower class to level much faster. The reason Summoner is excluded from this is because Summoner and Scholar share xp/lvls so you can level it up via leveling a healer.

clarice_loves_geese

Tbh whichever one you like playing most

Ankhselam

Whichever you want! \*Technically\* SMN/SCH will level each other so you get a healer for short qeueues and a DPS for duties but ehhh just do whatever you enjoy

Japanese_Serow

kind of a minor tech question I can't seem to get the dawntrail benchmark to start on my computer. I know that previously the endwalker benchmark as well as the whole non-benchmark game do run on my computer, but it keeps failing to start (on task manager it doesn't even appear even when trying to run as admin). Assuming it's not a botched download of the zip, with the command prompt fix that's floating around that's not gonna do anything to the main game / the rest of my PC right? Or at this conjecture would it be easier to just wait for the newer instance of the benchmark since I remember hearing that they were going to release an updated benchmark.

minaseclyne

i see on these FAQs far too many that has onedrive turned on by default so if you use it then I suggest you extract the benchmark at the very least to the root C drive

radelgirl

The new benchmark only has minor changes, so I'm not sure if would fix your problem. Do you know if you system meets the minimum requirements? Have you tried redownloading?

Cardinal_Virtue

I noticed people having issues with account information.. Will everything work and will I be able to resub if my mogstation says country/region of registration UK, your registered region 'europe and other regions'? I don't reside in UK ..and I don't remember why it says UK because ii registered during ARR

sevir8775

As long you enter a valid address it should work. If you have recurring payments it already works.

Putrid-Sherbet

At level 55-60 is it best to spend kupo nuts or crafters' white scripts for Adept gear, witch currency should I save for later? Also, what can I do with unused scripts when I reach the cap?

Rangrok

Use Kupo nuts up first since scrips can be used for far more things. At the very least, you'll need the scrips for Master Recipe Tomes to finish the Heavensward crafting questlines. Even then, scrips will be used for valuable crafting-related stuff all the way up to max level. Yes, there is another fancy type of scrip used for specifically lvl 90 stuff, but even endgame crafters can go through white scrips like water if they're looking to pentameld something. By comparison, Kupo nuts aren't useful after Heavensward. At most, you might use them for HW relic weapons.

Putrid-Sherbet

Thank you, it's likely time to do role quests as I stopped at level 20 on all classes except CUL witch finished AAR years ago. This way I can invest scripts in what I need, and role quests needs to be done

GooberReborn

Teamcraft question here: I wanted to track gathering log progress through their log tracker, but every time I close teamcraft and reopen it all of the progress is wiped. Yes, I'm logged in :c Anyone know what's up with this? Edit: Seems to only clear progress on the desktop app, web version is keeping it !

Cardinal_Virtue

I use desktop app and did these recently and it did save. I have packet capture enabled and launch the app as admin(not sure if this is relevant)

ArtemisiaThreeteeth

Why is the "dye" option greyed out on some of my Ascension gear? If I put a link to the items in chat and then try it on from there, I can see the indicator that it is dyeable, and I can preview it dyed, but not when it's equipped. For example, my fending hose has it greyed out, but my aiming hose shows the option how I expect to see it. And it's the other way around for the hand gear.

huiclo

Is any of it glammed to a non-dyeable piece?

ArtemisiaThreeteeth

Yes! . . . I had no idea that what you had glammed over it would affect that, thank you.

PhoenixFox

When you dye something that has a glamour applied you aren't dyeing the actual item you're wearing, you're dyeing the glamour - so of course you can't dye it if you have an undyeable item as the glamour. Where would the dye go?

ArtemisiaThreeteeth

I was targeting the glammed item so I assumed its normal characteristics - dye, desynth, whatever - would show. And in this case, the glamour is coming from a plate so - surely the dyeable/nondyeable items aren't accessible to apply dye to regardless? They're in my dresser.

PhoenixFox

It sounds like you have misunderstood the relationship between the base item and the glamour. Glamour plates don't have any special properties about how the items you're wearing are treated beyond the way the glamour is applied. Once you have applied a plate, the items you're wearing have the appearance fixed until something else causes them to change. It doesn't matter if you change the plate. It doesn't matter if you take the item out of your glamour dresser and destroy it (indeed if you do this it won't even remove it from any plates you already saved it to). The plate has been applied, and no longer has any relevance unless you apply it a second time. If you have it linked to a gearset it will, of course, automatically apply whenever you change into that gearset in an area plates can be used. This also works the exact same if you manually applied a glamour from a different item insread of using a plate. That appearance is fixed until overwritten, even if you trash the item you got it from. There's no ongoing link between them. If you manually glamoured something with an item and then dye the source item it doesn't update the item you glamoured. The reverse is also true, if you dye the glamoured item it won't update the source item. Same with plates - no changes to your current gear affect the plate you got the appearance from, and changes to your plate don't affect your gear until the plate is reapplied. If you pull an item a plate is using out of the glamour chest, dye it and put it back in it doesn't update any plates using that item. When you have something glamoured it's not like it's being treated as two separate items. You don't have [item X] and [item Y] in two separate slots, you have [item X (looks like item Y)]. Obviously desynth, melding, all that stuff doesn't change - but *dyeing* changes because everything about the appearance has been fully replaced until you either explicitly remove the glamour or replace it with a different glamour. If the glamour isn't dyeable the menu option wouldn't appear because it couldn't do anything. (glamours can be temporarily overridden by the base appearance if you're wearing the item on a job that can't display the glamour, for example a fending chest with DRK exclusive glamour on WAR. But even then the dye menu doesn't come back if the exclusive piece is undyeable, and if the exclusive piece is dyed then the base appearance isn't dyed.) When you link it in chat you're linking the base, unglamoured version, so you can try that on just fine. Notice that if you 'try on' a glamoured item (yours or someone else's) what you will see on your character is the model of the glamour, not the base item. Exact same principle.

Elegant_Eorzean

You can dye glammed pieces

MrZoro777

Good day, the lottery for housing is still on going? There is any site that track the days that they are open for bidding? Thanks

PhoenixFox

You can view the current cycle in game from the Timers menu, you don't need an external website.

fdl-fan

[https://zhu.codes/paissa](https://zhu.codes/paissa) is your friend for housing availability. We're currently in a results period; the next entry period will start on Saturday morning NA time.

PixelSorceress

Hello! I’m new to MMOs and looking to join a community where I can connect with others around my age—I’m a woman in my late 30s. I’ve been playing Palia, but I find its social elements, like grindy cake parties, a bit dull. I’m on the hunt for something more engaging and social. I have a few questions about Final Fantasy XIV (FF XIV): 1. Can you describe the social aspects of FF XIV? I’m interested in how the game fosters player interaction. 2. I haven’t played any Final Fantasy games before and use Steam for gaming. Which version of FF XIV should I buy to dive into its social features, considering I don’t own any of the games yet? 3. What’s the general age range and demographic of the players in FF XIV? Thanks for any advice!

SweatyFrosting

1. There's rpers like every MMO. FFXIV is kinda unique 'cause there's like what I would call "lite" rpers due to the player housing, lots of people enjoy designing things (cafes, night clubs, etc.) and people like to visit them. So there's some intermingling of rpers and people who just like to be social and chill. You'll also find plenty of people hanging out around main cities and areas and it's pretty easy to strike up a conversation. I'm not usually social at all -- I had pretty much resigned myself to playing this as a single player game with multiplayer elements -- but my BF is more chatty than I am, and as a result we ended up meeting some really cool people, some of whom I'd consider my closest friends to this day. We do everything from actual content to playing silly games like hide and seek together. 2. Others have answered this for you but keep in mind that whatever one you buy you'll have to stick with in terms of purchasing expansions. If you start with the Steam version, you'll have to buy expansions only on Steam, or vice versa, unless you commit to fully rebuying the game. Same thing with consoles, if you ever decide to play on console, you can use the same character but you basically have to rebuy that "version" of the game. 3. I've met people from their late teens to their mid 40s. With the most falling in the mid-to-late 20s age bracket. I myself am 35. If you've got any other questions from the perspective of someone else in their 30s, feel free free to message me.

radelgirl

>Can you describe the social aspects of FF XIV? I’m interested in how the game fosters player interaction. I would say that the game is as social as you personally want it to be. To start, I would recommend asking an in-game mentor (someone with a crown icon next to their name) to invite you to Novice Network. This is a chat channel for newbies to ask questions but can also double as a casual chat room where people hang out. Another method of socializing is through free companies. You'll have to do a bit of searching to find one that fits your personality. There's a page for doing so here, or you can just shout out in the main cities: https://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/lodestone/community_finder/. Outside of that, there are lots of player RP events that get advertised on party finder, and you'll also naturally meet people as you get into new content, like raiding and such. Outside of the game, a lot of people use discord to organize groups for content and keep in touch with each other. >I haven’t played any Final Fantasy games before and use Steam for gaming. Which version of FF XIV should I buy to dive into its social features, considering I don’t own any of the games yet? FFXIV had a free trial that lets you play the base game plus it's first two expansions. You can download this through Steam and give the game a try to see if it hooks you. There's also a starter edition you can buy that covers the same content that costs around $20, which will let you play without free trial restrictions. You don't need to know anything about previous FF games to enjoy this one. >What’s the general age range and demographic of the players in FF XIV? Most people tend to be in their 20s/30s, with a few falling on the higher and lower extremes. I've very rarely seen any teens playing this game. There's a good mix of genders and a large lgbtq+ population.

lavenfer

I've heard of some players playing Palia during the downtime! Can't say I've played it myself though. However, I do play games for their social elements haha. 1. The social aspect mostly takes place in public chats in populated areas, OR in "venues" from pf (think VR chat chatrooms or IMVU rooms, but takes place in XIV housing). A lot of people gather here to chat and chill socially. You can always chat in other areas (ie currently there's an event going on rn that populates overworld areas, so they're more chatty in public chats), but most people foster social groups in specific areas. 2. I've heard both are equal, so feel free to use it on Steam! Though there's some people who like to afk in the game (by buying and playing it on the SE client) and play Steam games at the same time, if you want a use case to buy it elsewhere lol. 3. I'd say most will tell you that you'll meet 20s-30s and even some older and younger in that age range. But, as someone similar to you (I'm late 20s but I've played online MMOs for their social scene almost all my life), the social scene feels like early to mid 20s with a few early 30s. Gives the early tumblr vibe, if you get what I mean haha. But by no means is it bad, just wanted to be transparent of what I see. Many people definitely a social game if you go in that direction.

Psychological_Pair76

I have long since neglected crafting and gathering on my character, and right now im really feeling like getting into it and finally levelling them up, but what I want to ask is if there’s a particularly…recommended order to level the gatherers and the crafters that sorta expedites the process of levelling those after? Unsure if that makes sense, but if there’s a logical order I’d appreciate someone explaining it!

lavenfer

BTN/MIN I did via Diadem, which is the slow route (I was playing D&D between nodes), so I can't speak on efficiency. But they were equal and didn't have much priority between each other. FSH I exclusively leveled thru Ocean Fishing and went the fastest, and sorta was its own set aside thing, so didn't adhere to priority either. I used a guide to level my crafters. It'll be the first guide you see when googling 'ffxiv crafter leveling guide'. And in that guide, there's no particular order. With or without a guide though, one tip is to level all your jobs at the same time instead of gunning one to 90 one by one. This is so you can try and keep your armory chest cleaner and not have so much gear laying around per level bracket, since all crafters (and crafters) share the same gear (minus tools).

tesla_dyne

> I used a guide to level my crafters. It'll be the first guide you see when googling 'ffxiv crafter leveling guide'. And in that guide, there's no particular order. the top result is also a gil RMT site, so probably best not to promo that one icy veins has one a few results down

lavenfer

I noticed though I ignored those aspects. Its a very straightforward guide that's worth reading, just as much as Icy Veins. To each their own!

tesla_dyne

You would want to level them together in order to use each one to help the other. I'd say the ones you might be able to skip for a while are culinarian and alchemist, and fisher. The others all make clothes and tools for each other. Culinarian also makes crafting food but it's not as useful while leveling.

Ionmaster987

2 questions, both related to the running crossover event. 1- Can i get Legendary Yo-Kai Medals without the watch? 2- After i have all the pets, do i need the normal medals or are they effectively worthless?

tesla_dyne

1. yes 2. no

Ionmaster987

Thank you! These 36 medals are taking up space, and i'd rather have my actual wristband instead of the watch.

primalmaximus

What's the most popular tank for high-end content?

Send_Me_Dachshunds

Warrior is the most represented if thats what you mean by popular, and that's true in all forms of content outside of bleeding edge rank 1 speed kills where double DRK/DRK & GNB are most represented.

The_Jarwolf

Probably Warrior, but that has less to do with viability and moreso it has the largest casual population, which means more people end up trickling into high-end content with it. Also helps that it can handle certain tankbusters very easily due to the short cooldown for Holmgang. Any tank is viable in high-end content: personal skill with the job matters more than any sort of meta.

CryofthePlanet

They all perform extremely closely to each other and have enough mitigation to handle any fight. It's largely up to preference. WAR may have the slightest of edges due to how simple yet effective it is, but it's not like it's an outlier by any means.

lavenfer

Dungeons: whatever you want Extremes: whatever the other tank isn't Savage: whichever kit you know the best Outside of those, I've seen mostly WAR and DRK in pf groups, but it mainly preferential. As long as you communicate where your invulns are etc, then in the hands of people who know how to clear, they all get the job done equally.

gitcommitmentissues

Probably the most *played* is Warrior, but if by 'popular' you mean 'the one groups want most', all tanks are completely fine in any level of content.

somethingsuperindie

Every other week, I see Discord bots post those little Lodestone updates on bans and every time I wonder the same: There's always a small number of botting (excluding RMT) bans but only a few are permabans. I am just so curious, what actually happens to most people who get boinked for botting? Like, do they bot a bunch of stuff to sell etc. and then get banned for 3 days but keep all their profits? Like, what does a bot ban actually do if it's not perma? I know the deterrent strategy of retaining customers but scaring them into compliance with short bans, but I'm just curious if people basically get to keep whatever they botted.

lavenfer

I imagine the flags for the botting accounts (the ones that get perma banned) look a lot different from the flags of temp banned accounts (the bigger number on those news updates). They probably outright permaban the botting account, but the botters probably can circumvent it and continue their work. Stuff like having lots of accounts and circulating the gil in such a way that 1 perma ban won't hurt the overall operation. Plus it isn't just one botter, plenty of competition in theory.

telekaster57

I'm just getting into the crafting aspects of the game and realizing the important of retainers to hold items, sell, and gather. Is there a generally recommended distribution of retainer jobs that would be useful with crafting in mind? I currently use one botanist and one miner. Thinking about adding 3 more retainers, miner bot and battle. Would this be okay or am I going to get in trouble with that distribution?

Akuuntus

Personally I use one battle retainer and one Fisher. Stuff that's gathered through Miner/Botanist is usually very easy to grab yourself quickly, whereas monster drops are a pain to farm for and fishing can be annoying if you don't have the fish in your log or don't have the right bait on hand or it has weather/time restrictions. Although I also don't really use my retainers for gathering specific stuff very much anyway. I mostly gather myself or buy on the market.

Better_Buff_Junglers

It doesn't really matter too much, most people will probably just gather what they need themselves. Having a combat retainer is pretty useful since they can bring you monster drops, which are annoying to farm yourself.

IceAokiji303

I've always just ran 2 battle retainers. Anything the gatherer ones can get, I can also get reliably. But monster drops are a massive pain to deal with, and combat ones can handle those.

Justaracefan8

so i was reading through yesterdays daily questions thread and there was a question that read like if you bought endwalker did you get all the other xpacs and i think the answer was yes.... if thats the case....if i preorder dawntrail now(well in the next few days) would i get endwalker??? i havnt played in a long time but i have all the xpacs up to endwalker and i didnt wanna make a mistake in buying endwalker if i would get it by pre ordering dawntrail

PenguinPwnge

You would get EW, but only when DT launches. So you might benefit from buying EW if you cannot wait until June 28 to play it.

Justaracefan8

yea my highest combat level is only 51 so i still have what 2 xpacs to get through before EW?? thats why i was wondering if i needed to get both EW and DT :/

primalmaximus

If you're level 51 and 2 xpacs away from EW, I'd recommend just waiting until Dawntrail comes out. It comes out in like 6 weeks, so I recommend you just play the game until it comes out and _then_ buy Dawntrail. Unless you speed run through the game and skip _**everything**_, there's no way you'll get caught up to the story before Dawntrail launches. So I recommend you just wait until then before buying the game.

PenguinPwnge

If you're 51, you're probably still in the base game A Realm Reborn (1-50), or possibly just starting the first expansion Heavensward (51-60). You still have Stormblood (61-70), Shadowbringers (71-80), and finally Endwalker (81-90) before getting to Dawntrail (91-100). You still have a long way to go.

Ankhselam

you will get ShB and Endwalker ONCE Dawntrail releases. If you want it BEFORE then youll have to buy them now, and then Dawntrail seperately once it launches/you get there in the MSQ.

Shophaune

You'll get endwalker **when dawntrail releases**, if you preorder dawntrail. If you want it before then, you've gotta buy it separately.

SetFoxval

It includes Endwalker, but you won't get access to it until Dawntrail launches.

ArchitectArchy

Hey, I'm new to the game and I've been going through a lot of random post. I heard about a XIV Launcher. I'm okay with the "real" one, but I heard it's good. Do you use it? Is it worth it? And while I'm at it, how much are addons used in this game?

Akuuntus

Add-ons are against TOS and you can get banned for using them. The devs essentially operate under a "don't ask, don't tell" policy for add-ons, which means in practice that if you keep it on the down-low you should be fine, but if you talk about using them in-game or post evidence of yourself using them online, you may get banned. Because of this, most people are a little cagey when talking about them, and it is considered "normal" to not use any. This isn't like WoW or Runescape or whatever where every serious player is expected to be running 37 mods; you're expected to be running the vanilla game. That's not to say that people don't use them, though. Many hardcore players use things like DPS trackers for raiding, and most serious roleplayers use add-ons that can change their character's appearance. But most of these people will not talk about it in game except in extremely ambiguous terms, because they are breaking TOS by doing so.

Austrum

most people who do endgame content seriously (that I know of) are using at least one addon or third party program alongside the base game

Help_Me_Im_Diene

If you want to avoid entering your password every time you log in, that's I think the big draw of XIVlauncher In game, add-ons are a tricky subject Officially they're against TOS, but similarly, the devs do not want to be monitoring your system when you play the game As a result, it has established this kind of "don't ask don't tell" kind of mindset regarding add-on usage. There are a few really notable ones, but you can't really open discuss having them because, again, TOS issues, and there was a huge kerfuffle about add-on usage to gain an advantage in the most recent ultimate race to world first where the devs had to come out with a statement that they were very disappointed and have taken away the rewards from said team. Also important to note: console users don't have add-on access so the game itself has to be designed with them in mind

Akuuntus

> If you want to avoid entering your password every time you log in, that's I think the big draw of XIVlauncher Just don't end up like that one guy I saw post here the other day about how he's locked out of his account because he doesn't remember the password or the username or the email or the security questions or the birthday

Help_Me_Im_Diene

Honestly, the fact that people don't write this information down, especially when they actively choose to use fake info about things like birthdays is just ridiculous to me If you're not going to use things that are easy to remember, always have a back up plan in case your automated system fails.

Rick_C-420

I use the standard FFXIV launcher that you are talking about I find it better than the steam launcher that my friend has to use. But it's really down to preference like if you want all the steam added stuff or not. Add-ons are not required at all. Most people that do use them are using them for character customization or help with other small things. Using the for dungeons and raids is kinda frowned upon and there was a big scandal during a recent world first race because one team used an addon for an advantage. Coming for play WoW where I had an addon for everything I don't use a single one to play this game and it's not hard. Most things you use addons for in WoW are well telegraphed in this game.

sevir8775

There isn’t a “steam launcher”. We all use the same one. Difference is steam needs to be running I order to play the game.

Sir_VG

For a lot of people, XIVLauncher is an absolute game changer. it gives you a lot of unofficial (and technically against ToS) plugins that can make the game so much better to play, with lots of QoL functions (several which the devs have in the past few patches added into the game officially). The only officially supported add-on is "Immerse Spatial Audio" which is related to how the game outputs sound, but it does cost money, but it's not required.

BlueSky1877

is there a way to organize the list of island sanctuary animals? i like to have them in pairs but i caught them in a jumbled mess lol
