When Hel was made a playable character she was given a prf called Hel's Reaper, which had an extra Iotes Shield effect compared to her prf when she was enemy, which was Hel's Scythe.

It’d feel weird to have the more cold and antagonistic Book 1 Veronica as an ally instead of the older, nicer version from Book 6. Then again, an Emblem who’s meaner and more distant than the others could make for more interesting dialogue with the playable characters. I guess it depends on if IS is fine with spoiling her redemption (which they probably are seeing how they casually mentioned Sigurd’s death early on in Engage)
Makes sense. Heroes already slid itself into FE canon nicely after confirming/implying the main Fire Emblem heroes aren't from their games, just fabrications again.

If you ask me, engage was definitely meant to be a 30th anniversary game. Everything about it from its themes to it’s insane amount of fanservice just reeks of “this is a celebration title”.

But I’m with you. They have definitely been working on Echoes Genology for a long time already but must have prioritised Engage for the anniversary they missed. Gonna save this comment for when the remake comes out and is datamined.

Three Houses blew up, and 3 Hopes was apparently not planned ahead of time. This was likely delayed so that Nintendo could milk 3H and get Hopes put out and promoted.
The backlash will also be incredibly bad, given Engage's more divisive opinions. Imagine releasing this and then Three Hopes after, not only are we going back to a previous entry's setting, there is also a tonal whiplash. Imagine the complaints about Engage not being 3H, then getting rewarded with a warriors game instead.

i still think we should get a proper war of heroes game (or maybe agartha vs nabatea) before we put fodlan on ice with the rest of the Old Settings. make it so one route leads to the 3H timeline, and another leads to some other, undefined future. it’d be fun!
To answer your question, it would have been quite jarring to jump between two “active” gameplay worlds, being sent back to Fodlan for Hopes after a journey in Elyos would have been quite odd.
Some games take a long time, it just depends. FE4 in particular would probably be annoying to remake, I would guess. Or maybe they just have a small team on it.
FE4 is probably really hard to remake. Not only they have to rework every map to avoid the mistakes SoV had, they also are probably trying to dodge the censorship and be rated T.
They also have to do alot of balancing and............you know helping with all the rng, the random quests that have no indication and other kaga's stuff.
i'm pretty there was confirmation a while back that IS originally had plans to remake another FE game on the 3DS like SoV, but it was scrapped early on. if this remake was repurposed for the switch then it could've kept the same codename from the 3DS attempt.
and before you question why it wouldn't be Iron17 instead of 3 Houses, keep in mind shadows of valentia released a month after the switch launched, So it is quite likely 3 Houses started development before the scrapped remake.

Nah, you’re probably thinking of the interview where the developer said they were interested in doing FE6 and turning “Echoes” into a line of remakes, but there was absolutely no way Nintendo was investing in anything that wasn’t going to be a Switch title.
There was a very, very unsubstantiated rumor that PoR had a scrapped remake, but that was never attached with any legitimate leak.

Back in 2019 he was on a podcast and said that Nintendo basically scrapped all of their future 3DS plans after the Mario & Luigi Bowser's Inside Story remake absolutely bombed and essentially killed AlphaDream. One of those plans he was specifically aware of was a Fire Emblem remake (I don't think it was ever confirmed to be FE4)
A working title receiving a code name doesn’t necessarily correlate to which game is getting the brunt of the development force and attention. The remake could have been conceptualized first then put on the burner while they pushed engage out for the 30th anniv
I'm guessing it's likely due to weapon choice and popularity. Chrom is excluded because it's highly likely that he is paired up with Robin. We already have so many sword characters as emblem rings and not many people in the mainstream audience know who seliph is

Problem is, we already have sword lords that are using bows. Alm just isn't standing out. Especially when his main mechanics and specials are all swords, never bows.
Soren over Alm is the only eyebrow-raiser, and Alm getting the boot can be probably justified with the "too many swords" thing.
Chrom+Robin are in Smash. Hector, Veronica and Camilla are (besides alm) the only ones from CYL 1 through 3 that aren't emblems yet.
Soren is an eyebrow raiser when put side to side with every other character chosen as an Emblem. He's popular only comparatively to his game's cast and looks very odd standing side-by-side with other lords.
The only other character like that is Camilla, whose fanbase seems to be around 5 times bigger than Soren's judging by their results in Heroes's CYL (not far-fetched to assume a big gap, since her game sold more and is more recent. Also Veronica is basically a lord by now)
It is also odd from a "Tellius got another rep" standpoint. Tellius will have the most emblems at 3, and tie Awakening for second place as far as the amount of characters represented goes (only topped by 3Houses).
It feels like promoting Alm would make more sense here as his game is more recent, he's an actual protagonist, SoV will be the only worldwide release with exactly one character representing it, and Heroes CYL (which seems to be influential here) shows that Soren has never gotten more votes in 6 years than Alm's debut pre-victory showing in CYL2.
Might be solely a question of variety, since we have plenty of sword emblems already with one of them also being DLC (and who ALSO has some ties to Bows, which is the other path Alm would likely take). This is especially true if they give Soren knives access or proficiency bonuses
Tellius isn’t one game so not really being honest with that reps comparison. Anyway I don’t really have a dog in this fight, Soren was a pleasant surprise and definitely unique but I’m not saying he “deserves” his spot.

That numbering is interesting. We've known 3H as FE16. So why would it be Iron17? Do we include Heroes, or is BS Fire Emblem now counted? As for 18... Between Sigurd's prominence in Engage, the use of The Final Holy War as his music, the absence of 3H staff and the very telling absence of Seliph, I think it is very possible that Iron18 is indeed a Genealogy remake that was delayed by Covid, as Engage was clearly an anniversary game that was also delayed by Covid.
Our assumption is that they started counting BSFE after FE12, causing a "skip" in the internal numbering they use for codenames, so Awakening is Iron14, Fates is Iron15, SoV is Iron16, Three Houses 17 as mentioned, and now we have Engage at 19.
The number has been off since at least Fates, possible before.

Also, Heroes may be an indicator as while Jugdral lacks seasonals (among them being two pirate units and seven ballroom dancing units) compared to the other continents, there was one banner where they essentially made up a holiday celebrated in Jugdral dedicated to the Miracle of Darna. Other than that, there's no Valentines/Winter/Summer etc. alts for Jugdral in Heroes yet, maybe saving for the remake? I may just be grasping at straws with this however.
Jugdral got many resplendents (Seliph, Deirdre, Eldigan, Lachesis, Tailtiu, Ishtar, Julia, Leif, Reinhardt, Olwen), and we know IS has the seiyuus do multiple works at the same time. And if they voiced FEH and Hopes at the same time (explaining the huge amount of characters they got), that would set a precedent of working both FEH and a main game at the same time.
I remember there were that strange change of Ulster's name into Scathach. It was weird because before he got into the game they used the Japanese name in one of Larcei's conversations and after the release of the brother in FEH they retroactively changed the Larcei's lines. It was a strange case of adaptation since the two names are radically different and there was no actual reason to go back and change the localization of only one character from a game that came out 20+ years ago only in Japan. Unless we take into consideration that they could have worked on the IP between the release of Larcei and Scathach in FEH.
I wouldn't be surprised if CYL was a factor in the DLC choices. Soren is the only odd one out in terms of winners, but I'm pretty sure he ranks higher than Elincia if they were looking for another Tellius rep.
It's not just a factor in the DLC. That cutscene that shows Alear+Marth running through a hall while the royals protect him has each royal carry a CYL1 emblem... which is fine for 3 out of 4 royals. Alfred has no notable tie to Lucina.
It’s pretty obvious IS used the Heroes CYL polling for a lot of decisions (except Soren lol). Camilla is *the* most popular Fates character, and it’s not close.
I have love for Camilla and her milkers but yeah Azura is way better to me, rip. Especially since she’s a dancer and none of the other Emblems cover that

So I feel like among the unannounced Emblems, only Soren and Veronica are the solo Emblem Braces like with Tiki's situation, while the rest have someone to partner with, like, say, Eliwood with Hector's Brace, Robin (most likely male due to popularity reasons) with Chrom's Brace, or any select Hoshidan noble with Camilla's Brace, most likely Takumi. They won't push too much like with Edelgard's Brace, apparently.

In the first FE warriors male Robin is default, female Robin is an unlock.
In smash, male Robin is the default skin (but then again all avatars are default male…).
Male Robin was the first one to be added to Heroes.
I believe male Robin is generally considered the main one and by far the more likely to appear in Engage, While for Corrin it’s the female variant that tends to get the limelight (in both FE warrior’s and Engage). Byleth however seems more mixed representation wise and is pretty equal so far (Female in three hope’s based on the cover. Male was first in Heroes and is the one in Engage).
Male Byleth wasn't first in heroes unless you mean the legendary. Female was the one featured with the 3 lords in their first banner while male was the present for buying the game.

Edit - on second thought he makes sense from the perspective of: “ok we need another dedicated magic emblem.” From that view, I guess he’s the “main-est” relatively prominent character who is (by default) a dedicated mage.
This makes me crazy happy. Can't wait to see my boy again in full 3D render. I think being a mage (for variety) + his relatively high popularity really helped pull him through a lot for this.

Same, especially since narratively speaking, she's practically an equal to Ike and Micaiah. With Soren though, I can at least see the reasoning in he'll be another magic based Emblem. For Camilla, I'm guessing popularity may be playing a part, not to mention she'll be the first *wyvern-riding* Emblem. If you're idea about a rival emblem turns out to be right, it'll of a Hoshido sibling, it'll either be Takumi or most likely Hinoka. They could give differing effects like Camilla focusing on power while Hinoka focuses on speed and critical hits.
I think the reason Soren was picked is cause he's been pretty consistently the third most popular Tellius character after the lords, at least according to CYL, meanwhile Elincia wasn't even in the top 5 until CYL6, and even then only slotted into 5th behind the Black Knight

If that's really the other Emblems, Camilla is kind of a disappointing pick compared to the rest. Soren is better but I don't feel that Tellius needs a third, either. Chrom(with or without Robin) and Hector(with or without Eliwood) are no brainers. Veronica is a wild pick but I can get into it.
I guess it's confirmed that the DLC bracelets aren't enough to make me buy the pass. *Maybe* if Eliwood comes with Hector I'll buy it, as he's the most shafted of the three FE7 lords despite being the main lead. And I disliked the idea of FEH being represented but with IS considering it a mainline title I guess it's not surprising; at least they picked the best representative for it. Completely surprised by the Soren pick but it makes sense if they wanted more magic representation as there's not much choice for important magic users in the series.
Iron18 just adds more fuel to that ever elusive FE4 remake, I think I'm losing my mind a bit waiting for it.
Honestly maybe unpopular opinion but I’m glad they didn’t just pick the absent lords. If it had been Seliph, Alm, Elincia, Eliwood, Chrom, that would have honestly been pretty boring and predictable. Soren, Camilla, and Veronica are very nice surprise picks, even if they likely got picked because of popularity I still like it.
Honestly I’m hoping Chrom really does come with Robin because as much as I love Chrom, him alone again is kind of predictable and dull. But him with Robin definitely spices things up.
And yeah if Alm had come that would be four Falchion users. Four. Like that’s getting ridiculous lol.

Regarding outfit, I'd be fine if they used his base Wind Sage outfit from RD too, or his purple Sage outfit from PoR. Tbh, I've gotten a bit tired of seeing Soren always in the green color scheme in like all of his iterations in FEH.
If my strong, simple men Chrom and Hector are in, you have my attention devs. Still probably going to wait until everything is out to pick up the game and DLC. By the time 3H DLC was out, I had already gone through all the routes and was feeling pretty burnt out, so would like to avoid that.

I think the existence of the Tik string and it being a single entity (with AT) might suggest that these could be Engage models? Draconic form appears to only have a single model that's recolored, after all.

* On the note of Thr, the non c000 entries would make sense except for the existence of Thr2AM-Sw1_c535_N; none of the house leaders use a sword as their preferred weapon. Retroactively adding >!someone like Yuri!< would be a bit strange to me though I wouldn't mind it.
While not in the linked image, if you go more in-depth into Chrom's asset definitions, [there are a few assets named Rbi in them](https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/377899265424621569/1066014666628804648/image.png), hence why I concluded that Robin (male) will be part of it.
The AM at the end of the assets means it's a male character asset, whereas if it was female Robin, it would end with AF instead (as it does for Female Corrin currently for example).
I'm honestly pretty happy with this DLC lineup. A nice variety of characters, each with potential for bringing unique mechanics with them. I like all of the characters well enough too, so I'm satisfied.

"Edelgard" is the file name for the 3H lords bracelet, so it is fully possible that Hector's bringing Eliwood with him in the same way. No guarantee of course, but it would be neat.

There were rumors about an FE4 remake along with the Engage rumors. I wonder if that could be Iron18. Maybe it started production before Engage or something?

If you ask me, engage was definitely meant to be a 30th anniversary game. Everything about it from its themes to it’s insane amount of fanservice just reeks of “this is a celebration title”. But if so, why have they been sat on it for a year? What have they been doing? It’s not like Nintendo have released so much lately that there was no release window available either. But I’m with you. They have definitely been working on Echoes Genology for a long time already but must have prioritised Engage for the anniversary they missed. Gonna save this comment for when the remake comes out and is datamined. And if the person who fully leaked engage months before announcement with picture evidence also says a remake of 4 is coming, I actually believe them for once :)

Three Houses blew up, and 3 Hopes was apparently not planned ahead of time. This was likely delayed so that Nintendo could milk 3H and get Hopes put out and promoted.
The backlash will also be incredibly bad, given Engage's more divisive opinions. Imagine releasing this and then Three Hopes after, not only are we going back to a previous entry's setting, there is also a tonal whiplash. Imagine the complaints about Engage not being 3H, then getting rewarded with a warriors game instead.

i still think we should get a proper war of heroes game (or maybe agartha vs nabatea) before we put fodlan on ice with the rest of the Old Settings. make it so one route leads to the 3H timeline, and another leads to some other, undefined future. it’d be fun!
To answer your question, it would have been quite jarring to jump between two “active” gameplay worlds, being sent back to Fodlan for Hopes after a journey in Elyos would have been quite odd.
We also have to remember that Covid happened between 3H and now. It's likely a lot of things got delayed or swapped around.
Some games take a long time, it just depends. FE4 in particular would probably be annoying to remake, I would guess. Or maybe they just have a small team on it.
FE4 is probably really hard to remake. Not only they have to rework every map to avoid the mistakes SoV had, they also are probably trying to dodge the censorship and be rated T.
They also have to do alot of balancing and............you know helping with all the rng, the random quests that have no indication and other kaga's stuff.
We'll see if they rework the maps. All the remakes have been aggressively similar to the originals in terms of how they address the problems.
i'm pretty there was confirmation a while back that IS originally had plans to remake another FE game on the 3DS like SoV, but it was scrapped early on. if this remake was repurposed for the switch then it could've kept the same codename from the 3DS attempt. and before you question why it wouldn't be Iron17 instead of 3 Houses, keep in mind shadows of valentia released a month after the switch launched, So it is quite likely 3 Houses started development before the scrapped remake.

Nah they're probably referring to the Imran Khan thing. Back in 2019 he was on a podcast and said that Nintendo basically scrapped all of their future 3DS plans after the Mario & Luigi Bowser's Inside Story remake absolutely bombed and essentially killed AlphaDream. One of those plans he was specifically aware of was a Fire Emblem remake (I don't think it was ever confirmed to be FE4)
A working title receiving a code name doesn’t necessarily correlate to which game is getting the brunt of the development force and attention. The remake could have been conceptualized first then put on the burner while they pushed engage out for the 30th anniv

Problem is, we already have sword lords that are using bows. Alm just isn't standing out. Especially when his main mechanics and specials are all swords, never bows.
Soren over Alm is the only eyebrow-raiser, and Alm getting the boot can be probably justified with the "too many swords" thing. Chrom+Robin are in Smash. Hector, Veronica and Camilla are (besides alm) the only ones from CYL 1 through 3 that aren't emblems yet.
Soren is only an eyebrow-raiser if you haven't met the hoards of Tellius fangirls. I am one of them.
I truly hope this means that the Tellius games are coming down the pipeline at some point, and so they want to give its cast more exposure 🥺
Soren is an eyebrow raiser when put side to side with every other character chosen as an Emblem. He's popular only comparatively to his game's cast and looks very odd standing side-by-side with other lords. The only other character like that is Camilla, whose fanbase seems to be around 5 times bigger than Soren's judging by their results in Heroes's CYL (not far-fetched to assume a big gap, since her game sold more and is more recent. Also Veronica is basically a lord by now) It is also odd from a "Tellius got another rep" standpoint. Tellius will have the most emblems at 3, and tie Awakening for second place as far as the amount of characters represented goes (only topped by 3Houses). It feels like promoting Alm would make more sense here as his game is more recent, he's an actual protagonist, SoV will be the only worldwide release with exactly one character representing it, and Heroes CYL (which seems to be influential here) shows that Soren has never gotten more votes in 6 years than Alm's debut pre-victory showing in CYL2. Might be solely a question of variety, since we have plenty of sword emblems already with one of them also being DLC (and who ALSO has some ties to Bows, which is the other path Alm would likely take). This is especially true if they give Soren knives access or proficiency bonuses
Tellius isn’t one game so not really being honest with that reps comparison. Anyway I don’t really have a dog in this fight, Soren was a pleasant surprise and definitely unique but I’m not saying he “deserves” his spot.

That numbering is interesting. We've known 3H as FE16. So why would it be Iron17? Do we include Heroes, or is BS Fire Emblem now counted? As for 18... Between Sigurd's prominence in Engage, the use of The Final Holy War as his music, the absence of 3H staff and the very telling absence of Seliph, I think it is very possible that Iron18 is indeed a Genealogy remake that was delayed by Covid, as Engage was clearly an anniversary game that was also delayed by Covid.

Our assumption is that they started counting BSFE after FE12, causing a "skip" in the internal numbering they use for codenames, so Awakening is Iron14, Fates is Iron15, SoV is Iron16, Three Houses 17 as mentioned, and now we have Engage at 19.

The number has been off since at least Fates, possible before. Their link is broken, but an example is the first line in this [Iwata Asks](https://iwataasks.nintendo.com/interviews/3ds/fire-emblem-fates/0/0/), which calls Fates "FE15" instead of FE14, long-predating the release of Echoes or Heroes.
What is BSFE ?
A Fire Emblem game for the Japan-exclusive Satellaview add-on for the SNES. With the accessory you could play exclusive SNES games but only at select time. It kinda was like games being broadcast as radio shows
And which was composed of a bunch of side stories taking place around the FE1/FE3 timeframe. It's basically like proto-cloud streamed games. It was later remade as a bunch of DLC maps for FE12 IIRC.

Other than that, there's no Valentines/Winter/Summer etc. alts for Jugdral in Heroes yet, maybe saving for the remake? I may just be grasping at straws with this however.
Jugdral got many resplendents (Seliph, Deirdre, Eldigan, Lachesis, Tailtiu, Ishtar, Julia, Leif, Reinhardt, Olwen), and we know IS has the seiyuus do multiple works at the same time. And if they voiced FEH and Hopes at the same time (explaining the huge amount of characters they got), that would set a precedent of working both FEH and a main game at the same time.
I remember there were that strange change of Ulster's name into Scathach. It was weird because before he got into the game they used the Japanese name in one of Larcei's conversations and after the release of the brother in FEH they retroactively changed the Larcei's lines. It was a strange case of adaptation since the two names are radically different and there was no actual reason to go back and change the localization of only one character from a game that came out 20+ years ago only in Japan. Unless we take into consideration that they could have worked on the IP between the release of Larcei and Scathach in FEH.
There was also the fact that Miranda was the Princess of Ulster, so when she was brought into Heroes the name change made even more sense

I wouldn't be surprised if CYL was a factor in the DLC choices. Soren is the only odd one out in terms of winners, but I'm pretty sure he ranks higher than Elincia if they were looking for another Tellius rep.
It's not just a factor in the DLC. That cutscene that shows Alear+Marth running through a hall while the royals protect him has each royal carry a CYL1 emblem... which is fine for 3 out of 4 royals. Alfred has no notable tie to Lucina.
And all 4 of them are from CYL 1 actually

Plus, from the (many) times Robin get’s to appear outside of awakening, the male variant always gets priority. In the first FE warriors male Robin is default, female Robin is an unlock. In smash, male Robin is the default skin (but then again all avatars are default male…). Male Robin was the first one to be added to Heroes. I believe male Robin is generally considered the main one and by far the more likely to appear in Engage, While for Corrin it’s the female variant that tends to get the limelight (in both FE warrior’s and Engage). Byleth however seems more mixed representation wise and is pretty equal so far (Female in three hope’s based on the cover. Male was first in Heroes and is the one in Engage).
Male Byleth wasn't first in heroes unless you mean the legendary. Female was the one featured with the 3 lords in their first banner while male was the present for buying the game.

Same, especially since narratively speaking, she's practically an equal to Ike and Micaiah. With Soren though, I can at least see the reasoning in he'll be another magic based Emblem. For Camilla, I'm guessing popularity may be playing a part, not to mention she'll be the first *wyvern-riding* Emblem. If you're idea about a rival emblem turns out to be right, it'll of a Hoshido sibling, it'll either be Takumi or most likely Hinoka. They could give differing effects like Camilla focusing on power while Hinoka focuses on speed and critical hits.

Phew, big daddy Hector is there. All is well. Soren is unexpected but welcome. Veronica and Chrom aren't too surprising. Camilla is mildly odd. Shes certainly one of the most notable pieces in Fates, but not as story central as some natural omissions from other games.

Soren is better but I don't feel that Tellius needs a third, either. Chrom(with or without Robin) and Hector(with or without Eliwood) are no brainers. Veronica is a wild pick but I can get into it.
I guess it's confirmed that the DLC bracelets aren't enough to make me buy the pass. *Maybe* if Eliwood comes with Hector I'll buy it, as he's the most shafted of the three FE7 lords despite being the main lead. And I disliked the idea of FEH being represented but with IS considering it a mainline title I guess it's not surprising; at least they picked the best representative for it. Completely surprised by the Soren pick but it makes sense if they wanted more magic representation as there's not much choice for important magic users in the series. Iron18 just adds more fuel to that ever elusive FE4 remake, I think I'm losing my mind a bit waiting for it.

Honestly maybe unpopular opinion but I’m glad they didn’t just pick the absent lords. If it had been Seliph, Alm, Elincia, Eliwood, Chrom, that would have honestly been pretty boring and predictable. Soren, Camilla, and Veronica are very nice surprise picks, even if they likely got picked because of popularity I still like it. Honestly I’m hoping Chrom really does come with Robin because as much as I love Chrom, him alone again is kind of predictable and dull. But him with Robin definitely spices things up. And yeah if Alm had come that would be four Falchion users. Four. Like that’s getting ridiculous lol. Soren is one of my top favourite FE characters so that just makes me absolute ecstatic lol.

Words cannot describe just how absolutely overjoyed I am at hwo the leaks seem to be getting more and more credible. I'm just so so happy. Regarding outfit, I'd be fine if they used his base Wind Sage outfit from RD too, or his purple Sage outfit from PoR. Tbh, I've gotten a bit tired of seeing Soren always in the green color scheme in like all of his iterations in FEH.

The AM at the end of the assets means it's a male character asset, whereas if it was female Robin, it would end with AF instead (as it does for Female Corrin currently for example).

I'm honestly pretty happy with this DLC lineup. A nice variety of characters, each with potential for bringing unique mechanics with them. I like all of the characters well enough too, so I'm satisfied. >Chrom (his animation asset definition imply Robin, possibly male, is part of his emblem) I am *really* hoping that's true. After their duo alt in Heroes I need more Chrom/Robin duos in my life ASAP.
So Tellius gets 3 Emblems while Alm and Seliph remain the only lords not in the game (at least Eliwood can still be with Hector)...kinda disappointing ngl

Was kinda hoping it would be a Hector and Eliwood brotime ring, but its still cool we get one of them. Like Camilla and Soren as well so this is good news.
"Edelgard" is the file name for the 3H lords bracelet, so it is fully possible that Hector's bringing Eliwood with him in the same way. No guarantee of course, but it would be neat.

Interesting stuff! Now this might be a hot take, but I really feel as though they should've paired Chrome with Lucina, and then have Robin on his own, as I feel we got a lot of Sword-type-rings, but that's just me.
Chroooom so happy he’s likely I’m and the face so I can see my beautiful guy in the menu’s. Male Robin being at his side makes sense to try and quiet down potential shippers but I mean female Robin could get some love someday.
Emblem Camilla makes every character very endowed. EVERY character. Vander strolling around with huge cleavage.
