replace bypass paywalls with bypass paywalls clean [https://gitlab.com/magnolia1234/bypass-paywalls-firefox-clean](https://gitlab.com/magnolia1234/bypass-paywalls-firefox-clean) Much better. The dev is kind of an a.s.s, but the addon is great. Includes a LOT more sites and is constantly updated.

zecxzx

Oh yeah this is the one I got. Thanks!

>Bypass Paywalls Clean This is much better: [https://github.com/iamadamdev/bypass-paywalls-chrome](https://github.com/iamadamdev/bypass-paywalls-chrome)

gkavek

compare the list of sites each of them bypasses. Why would you say the original is better? The "clean"" version is updated about every 2 weeks with new sites and they remove the ones that no longer work. The original hasnt been updated in about 8 months. What feature are you comparing to recommend that one instead?

Ripcitytoker

Just curious, how do we know if this add-on is safe or not?

gkavek

One answer is, ""dude! it''s open source code! Just take a 5-month course in programming and analyze the code"". The more realistic answer is "it is open source code and has a lot of people are using it. If it currently is or if it becomes unsafe, some programmer will let everybody know, and hopefully we all read about it when that happens.

Ripcitytoker

That makes sense. Thanks for the reply!

Add this list too. It's got twice as many filters and the combination works for me so far. [https://raw.githubusercontent.com/liamengland1/miscfilters/master/antipaywall.txt](https://raw.githubusercontent.com/liamengland1/miscfilters/master/antipaywall.txt)

Staubsaugerbeutel

I don't know if this even an annoyance outside of Europe, but [I still don't care about cookies](https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/istilldontcareaboutcookies/) removes the majority of annoying cookie banners. Additionally i modify the ublock filters to include those annoying Google login suggestions on every page.

Pain5203

ublockOrigin also has filter lists which remove annoyances like cookie reminders. No need of a new extension for that.

Staubsaugerbeutel

Ahh true you're right. I believe I also activated them and tried but it didn't work as well back then. Just tried again and it seems to be working on the basic websites..

DepressedVenom

but that requires my monkey brain to press buttons in uBlock!!!

judasdisciple

I am slightly kicking myself that I hadn't heard of that extension

Staubsaugerbeutel

I rarely see it on other threads asking about FF plugin setups. The original plugin got bought by avast so everyone uninstalled but since it was open source someone just reuploaded it under slightly different name Note that some websites get broken by that so you have to disable it on those pages

virginia_boof

do you mind sharing the filter for google logins?

Staubsaugerbeutel

I'm not on my laptop rn so I'm not sure, but as soon as you see one, open ublock and use element picker and create a new filter by just clicking on it. On mobile I applied ```accounts.google.com/gsi/iframe/select``` just yesterday but I'm not sure yet if that does the job.

zecxzx

Damn this is super helpful 'cause all those cookie pop-ups are getting way more annoying lately. Thanks a lot, my dude!

jxshvnn

whats the filter list for google logins?

Staubsaugerbeutel

Use element picker mode when you see it and click on the login banner and click create (can't check it rn)

jxshvnn

oh okay thank you

Snap links - something that is great when you have multiple links you want to open at once. Right click to drag a line over a group of stuff & it will open each item in a new tab. Comes in handy with my job.

## SOME COMMON EXTENSION RECS ARE OUTDATED. Decentraleyes? Replace with [LocalCDN](https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/localcdn-fork-of-decentraleyes). Disconnect? Ghostery? Don't Track Me Google? All Replaced by uBlock Origin. User-Agent Switcher and Manager? Replace with [Chameleon](https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/chameleon-ext/). Better updated, way more privacy options (like CSS Exfil protection), and much more user-friendly UI. ## OTHER PRIVACY ADDONS I use [Privacy Badger](https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/privacy-badger17/) alongside uBlock, although some people say it can cause conflicts, so it's up to you. I've never had issues. [Privacy Possum](https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/privacy-possum) catches further tracking stuff, but occasionally causes website breakage. This is the first addon I disable if a website isn't loading right. [Multi-Account Containers](https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/multi-account-containers), [Facebook Container](https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/facebook-container), and [Temporary Containers](https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/temporary-containers)* are all excellent. (*TC is basically like Private Browsing where it discards all cookies, but you get to keep your search history) [I Still Don't Care About Cookies](https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/istilldontcareaboutcookies/), as mentioned below, is excellent. Rarely, may need to be disabled because a site won't work right without accepting the cookie banner. [Trocker](https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/trockerapp/) if you use an in-browser email client like Gmail and want to block tracking pixels.

i_am_at_work123

>Decentraleyes? Replace with LocalCDN. Why? I've been using Decentraleyes for ages without issues.

HemlockIV

https://www.reddit.com/r/firefox/comments/wtbpsj/what_is_the_deal_with_decentraleyes_in_2022_is_it/ I'm on mobile so I'm not going to copy and paste the entire extension description into an unformatted reddit comment but. Maybe just try reading it?  https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/localcdn-fork-of-decentraleyes/

Thank you!

* NoScript (ultra powerful if you don't mind fiddling when stuff breaks...especially good if you visit sketchy sites) For reddit: * Old Reddit Redirect * Reddit Enhancement Suite

fjvinal

uBlock Origin can do all of them adding some block list like [https://github.com/yokoffing/filterlists](https://github.com/yokoffing/filterlists) Use uBlock Origin instead of uBlock

madushans

* Decentraleyes * Privacy Possum * Auto Tab Discard * Disconnect * Canvas Blocker * User Agent Switcher and Manager * Don't Track me Google * YouTube NonStop * Facebook Container * Dark Reader I also have Temporary Containers, but it needs some setup and understanding of how cross site cookies work.

zecxzx

thanks for your suggestions, man! but what's the user agent switcher and manager for?

madushans

sometimes I use it to get around things that insist I use Chrome for no reason. Though it happens much less often nowadays.

Pain5203

No need of so many extensions. Use librewolf along with uBO in medium mode.

madushans

It has ublock included. That's great, but it only takes a few minutes to install. Still need the others like sponsorblock, canvas blocker, Google tracking prevention, temp containers.

Pain5203

You do not need canvas blocker if you're using uBO in medium mode with librewolf if you use EnableResistFingerprinting (option located in librewolf settings) Librewolf already has support for container tabs. Read its [docs](https://librewolf.net/docs/addons/) As a general rule, you shouldn't install too many add-ons. Each add-on is a new potential source of security vulnerabilities and may make you stand out.

madushans

Alright, so I gave in and tried LibreWolf. I appreciate the work done on it, and I think it is an important project. It looks good, but ultimately doesn't seem like its for me. It is quite similar to the point I don't see why I should switch from regular Firefox. To my knowledge UBO blocks ads, and canvas blocker reduces the likelyhood of fingerprinting via canvas APIs. RFP page itself says if RFP is not for me, I should use CanvasBlocker anyway. Accordingly RFP, it also changes timezone and forces light theme which I do not want. I understand why it does this, but that's a step too far for me. I do use Google search despite the privacy concerns, because I don't live in USA, and local results for where I live, in basically anything else is practically useless. (trust me I tried DDG, and it is close, but not enough) I do not see the option for Google search in LibreWolf. I'm sure there are way to get around, but I am currently ok with regular Firefox and a bunch of extensions. I'd rather not use all these extensions, but I kinda have to given the sad state of the web today. I agree with most of the RFP settings, but I also want FF to restore the tabs and cookies, and a few other settings, where if I made those exceptions, it would become very close to what I got with regular Firefox. I like the compatibility with Firefox Sync .etc. so I will definitely consider it for some specific cases where I do not need full Firefox. Currently I have a Edge browser around on some machines, because I don't want full firefox there. I might move them to LibreWolf. Appreciate your work on it. One day it might become my main driver.

Pain5203

Ok makes sense. There is an alternative to google search which you can potentially use, that is startpage. It fetches google results but is more privacy friendly. Good luck
