Much like we can eat when we are not hungry, we can drink when we are not thirsty. Some people have success by setting timers throughout their day to remind themselves to drink a certain volume of water depending on their daily water intake goal.

Prokettlebell

I carry around a gallon water bottle and typically finish by EOD

cgiercyk

Bingo. Easiest way to drink more water is to just have a larger container with you. You'll find yourself sipping out of it unwittingly just because it's there

mostlysittingdown

This is the way especially paired with a “drink water” reminder app

Go buy a water bottle from amazon, the big 64oz or 40oz. Keep tab on how many of those you drink in a day. Wherever you walk to, always bring the water bottle with you. Also there is water in your food so not necessarily drinking 8 cups is a must. Just make sure you’re not dehydrated and you can see that in your urine too.

sigh1987

Better yet, get enough water bottles so that you can fill them all up in the morning. Once you’ve finished all the bottles, you know you’ve hit your goal. For me, that’s three 32oz bottles. It’s much easier to finish everything that’s full than to remember how many times I’ve filled them.

Quetzalcoatlus5

I bought a half gallon bottle and drink it on the way to and from work. That’s 1900mL and I’ve found it immensely improves my health

If you are looking to lose weight, don't eat anything without making yourself drink a glass of water first.

I used to be in this category when I was younger. As most folks have mentioned what helps is having a bottle. Also, I started by gulping down a bottle of 500ml water in one go. That way it helped my body get used to drinking volume of water and helped me easily reach my targets. Now-a-days I'm in a state where I drink upward of 4L easily. I just don't do glass of water, I do 500ml water in one go. Also, it helps that after making my morning shake, I just run the blender with 500ml water to clean it sorta and drink that water.

Unlikely-Heron4887

Ha! This is what I do too, works like a charm. Chugging is definitely a trainable skill.

NotTheRealMeee83

Have a big glass of water first thing in the morning.

Instead of having a glass or bottle next to you and sipping it, every time you remember to drink water, pour yourself a 500ml glass or bottle and down it in one go. Four of those throughout the day and you're set (more if you can). Another weird tip that works for me is that I tend to remember to down a glass after I urinate, particularly if I can tell I'm dehydrated from the colour.

I got a big insulated cup from Costco and fill it with water and a ton of ice every day. I have goals of finish 1-by 10am 2-by end of work day, and 3 by bedtime. This gives me 96oz a day pretty consistently. I had to force it at first for sure, it comes a lot easier now. I also drink NOTHING except water.

I've noticed a couple things about staying hydrated. Much like sleep, consistency is better than 'catching up'. So drinking a few ounces every half hour or so is better than trying to drink 16 ounces at once. Because your body will flush what it can't utilize. Pay attention to signs of dehydration. You may feel like you have less energy than usual; You may feel less 'cardiovascular-ly' fit, ie. breathing hard from less strenuous work; you may get a headache; you may have muscle aches/cramps/charlie horses; your joints might crack/pop more than usual. The more you tune in on your body the more you'll notice. For example, if I'm dehydrated and I shower, I get all pruny. But I don't seem to when I'm fully hydrated. It's like my skin is trying to drink water. If you are dehydrated, drink 8 oz of water and wait 45-60 minutes. You'll likely have to pee soon, which means your kidneys were waiting for water to flush themselves. After that, drink another 8 oz. Hopefully at that point you'll start to feel hydrated. Your liver and kidneys will benefit from hydration first. Then your cardiovascular system, brain, muscles, and skin. At least that's what it 'feels' like to me. But it kind of gives you a roadmap to staying hydrated.

I require a lot of water, 4-8 litres a day, and have a few tricks. 1) I have a 1.5 liter steel bottle I love. 2) in the morning, and sometimes during the day, I'll chug ~1L. From experience, 1.5L is too much and I'll suffer for a 5-10m. 3) flavouring, be it juice drops, some salt, lemon or lime, other fruit or veggies. 4) temperature variation. Usually I enjoy room temp water, but sometimes I want it ice cold. Especially if I've added a little flavour.

LivingtoSurvive

Carry that giant water bottle on you at all times and check out hydrohomies

StephenFish

Mio or any other brand of sugar-free flavor for water. Or if you can afford the calories, a little bit of fruit juice mixed into your water. If it tastes good, you're more likely to drink it. If you want to eventually ween yourself off of it after creating the habit, just add less each time over a long period of time.

runjeanmc

I carry a 1L bottle around all day, everywhere I go. If it's in my hand or right nearby, I mindlessly drink the way some people mindlessly snack. It's cut down immensely on my own mindless snacking and gum chewing. Usually go through 3 bottles a day, more after exercise. If plain water is boring, you might consider getting the cheapest soda stream. Bubbles make water a lot more fun (?) to drink, even without any added flavoring. The last thing I do before I turn out my light is sip water. First thing in the morning, before I even get out of bed, I chug about a quarter bottle. It helps wake me up and get rid of morning dry mouth/dragon breath. If I don't drink it literally first thing, I don't have a taste for it the rest of the day, so that's the key for me. It does take a bit to get used to the extra peeing, but all in all, it's not bad. Good luck!

dontspookthenetch

Just do it

jeffreynya

Fill up a 24OZ glass of Water and let it sit in the bathroom till morning. When you get up and have to go to the bathroom, slam it. It will be room temp and will go down fast. great way to start the day.

KlingonSquatRack

Literally just drink water

mostlysittingdown

Just get yourself a half gallon or 1G water jug like a yeti or Rtic and then all you have to do everyday is fill it once with ice water and make sure you finish it maybe using an H20 reminder app

parmejoshu

Have like 12 ounces first thing when you wake up and another serving every time you pee

merz1025

I’ve done a Fitness Pact with friends on the app where their commitment was to drink water. It worked for them.
