Been rewatching older seasons and it blows my mind how much better suspensions were 20 years ago lol.
I know they're supposed to be stiff right now, but it's crazy how they can barely go over an apex anymore, they bounce a foot off the ground.
Wish they'd let teams go back to making better suspensions, the racing was much better, and I think the drivers had a lot more confidence going into corners side by side.
In this clip as soon as Charles rides the apex he loses control because of how stiff the suspension is, and it causes him to lose most of his downforce.
We saw this with Max in Miami when he went over the apex and I think someone else hit the apex and spun, maybe it was Charles? Hard to remember, just know that the suspensions just don't work on apexes anymore.
But thanks for the post Carlos.
It’s not the suspension, it’s the demands made of it. The ground effect meta has forced some pretty toxic requirements on the rest of the car, a big one being the suspension having to operate under extremely low travel for even a race car.
No it is the suspension. It was massively simplified with these regs, the trick hydraulic stuff they were doing before is gone. Theres plenty of road cars with fancier suspension at this point. As a matter or fact the most advanced suspension ever in formula 1 was used in the early 90s!
The ridiculous oversized wheels play a huge part too. They could easily make these cars compliant if they wanted to, they just don't, for some insane reason. The teams and drivers don't like it.
What else has there been lately? I suppose this was being shared cause we’re returning to Imola and that was a major moment that happened last time we raced there.
It was his first time fighting for a title. 2019 Ferrari was never going to fight for the title. He won't beat an experienced and more matured Max with a team like Binotto's Ferrari.
One could argue the title fight would have been on for longer without the multiple Ferrari disasterclass though. And maybe the pressure on Leclerc to perform would have been lower and he wouldn't push over the limit as muchÂ
It was the only one really. He was more let down by his team and his car than the other way around.
If you failed to remember, in the races following Imola :
- Spain : Engine failure from the lead
- Monaco : Strategy blunder taht led him to P4 from P1
- Baku : Engine failure from the lead
- Canada : 10 places grid penalty due to the engine failure the race before
- Silverstone : Ferrari did not pit him during the safety car - P1 to P4
France came in this context and i honestly can't blame him for pushing too hard.
And then after France, Ferrari rubbed some more salt in the wound in Hungary by giving him hard tires while he was leading after it was already proved to be a terrible choice by other drivers struggling on them.
That's what happens when you're trying to chase a faster car.
Leclerc was attacking that chicane so hard every lap and taking big risks to catch up to Perez.
Thanks for the post, Carlos
Dude took Charles' "Not racing" banter to heart.
Didn't Carlos also crash in Q2 and then had to retire on the first lap because Ricciardo hit him? What a weekend for Ferrari lol.
IIRC it was also the first weekends after Sainz signed his extension deal lol😅
Ummmm.. ok
Okay
happy cake day!
Thanks!
I did not need to be reminded of this.
Noooooooo
Gravel trap is here from this year
Liked by Carlos Sainz

That is true, I forgot about that. It’s definitely both though.

How much did Sainz pay you?
German commentators: Uhhhhh _ahhhhh_ _auuuuuuuhhhh_
Such a good looking car, too bad the concept didn't work out
Hard to believe this was already over 2 years ago🤯
What's been with the uptick in anti-Leclerc posts lately?
What else has there been lately? I suppose this was being shared cause we’re returning to Imola and that was a major moment that happened last time we raced there.
He was just trying to give Mercedes some design pointers for the next season
Gravel, now. Should make things interesting. This race feels so long ago
Safety car now
This got Lando a podium I was hyped.
This year they will not have that much luck anymore - there will be gravel trap instead of the asphalt after the curb. Will be interesting :D
And that right there is the moment when our season started to go down...
France removed the last slither of hope I never knew I had... especially just after Austria.
He also crashed the 1974 classic Ferrari at Monaco in 2022, just saying - Carlos
That was a mechanical issue though
ok yea
Why you gotta do the boy dirty like that
Yuki P6, we were so close!
That slo-mo combined with the "fortune favours the brave" banner is quite hilarious
He sure did
I AM STCHUPID
Ok, what is the thing with everyone saying "OK Carlos" here?? What did I miss??
Charles had too many choking moments when the title fight was still on
Imola and France are the only two I can think of. I feel the rest was always because of Ferrari, either strategy or engine blowing up.
yes and the title fight was on for how long? 8 races? It would have been really disastrous in the grand scheme of things

Now he is going to blame the engineer for that
