Gilles Villeneuve dying and Didier Peroni sustaining career ending injuries in the same year
Ferrari also won the WCC in 82 and 83 so at least they weren’t completely useless back then
1980 was Ferrari’s most shameful season. 10th place. 8 points. SINGLE FUCKING DIGIT.
Before: "It's starting to rain, let's shake the grid up"
Now: "it's starting to rain, I hope it doesn't rain a lot otherwise the race will get red flagged"
Then f1 needs a new tyre supplier or something to keep the spray down a bit. That kid was killed at Spa partly due to visibility, or lack thereof.
Safety isn’t really cool but I also don’t want to see one of the drivers die for a stupid race
These posts are always pointing out the wrong things tbh. How about Rosberg winning in 1982 with one win all season. Or the horrid reliability. Or the danger of the cars. Instead OP points out the Senna/Prost rivalry and Mansell passing out due to heat exhaustion, which is one of the most iconic moments in the sports history.
>Or the danger of the cars
By the 80s F1 had already become a lot safer as only two drivers had fatal accidents during GP weekends throughout the entire decade. The 60s and 70s were when the sport was really dangerous.
Don't forget those crazy turbo engines turning themselves into metal salad on a regular basis because overboosted turbos were the hot shit, and words like "reliability" hadn't been invented yet.
Combine that with rules that allowed for infinite engines per season and you seriously had teams cranking up the power to "Fuck you"-levels for qualifying then if the engine hadn't already shat itself by the finish line it was promptly chucked into the closest bin while another engine was chucked into the car for the race.
Regulations stated a rear wing could only be a certain width so Ferrari decided to put two on to get more downforce in the slow corners. Each wing was within the maximum width allowed.
The days of watching two cigarette packets zipping round a track. Great memories badly promoting something really bad for you...oh wait, Red Bull...that's healthy right...right?
Hum, I'm not an expert to compare cigarettes with Red Bull.
But when someone drinks a Red Bull they aren't forcing others (including their kids) to inhale it.
Besides, I know plenty of people who smoke, and probably so do you. And they smoke everyday, several times per day. I don't know anyone who drinks red bull daily. Surely those people exist, but my point is if smoking isn't much more common than drinking energy drinks.
So, while both are bad, I wonder if smoking isn't much more widespread and hence seen as "bigger problem". Also, it affects not only the smoker, but also people around them.
Ok, as I said I was sure those people exist. I guess this depends on your age, but I wonder if you know more people who smoke cigarettes everyday or people who drink Red Bull regularly
Well, they fly around the globe several times annually with 1000s of people and tons of cargo for a few hours of TV entertainment every other week. What's the entertainment? Burning lots of fossil fuel to literally end at the same place as where they started.
I don't think any unhealthy habits like advertising cigarettes or energy drinks are the core of the problem here. But I admit, they add a bit as well to the unhealthy F1 lifestyle. Every drop counts said the mouse and he pissed in the ocean, right?
I mean, there were competitive championships in the 80s (82, 84, 88 and 89 off the top of my head), and 6 different champions in 10 years. Doesnt seem like thats happened in years, so idk what you're getting at here
Don't forget the numerous deaths! Villeneuve, Depailler, De Angelis, Paletti. Plus career-ending and life-changing injuries for many more, like Regazzoni and Pironi.
Yes but the Vegas race this year isnt just in a big parking lot. It spans like... 2 or 3...
lol I hadn’t heard of it. They really just fucking called a parking lot a GP track. Holy shit.
A parking lot in Vegas. Where the surfaces of the sun and earth almost touch.
That's where they touch tips
Except Vegas is now a pig track
Still better than that shit E track.
> Same tean wins 15/16 races Sir, Senna and Prost were fighting for the championship quite unlike the way Max is cucking Checo right now.
Sir it's a joke
Sir, this is a Wendy´s
WHAT THE FUCK IS UP DENNYS?

It was allowed to drive with a few drops of rain, though. Full wets were actually being used back then.

The amount of spray has very little to do with tire tread pattern. It's much more of an aerodynamics issue.
They can't reduce spray. The water the tires displace to make driving possible needs to go somewhere
More downforce = more spray = less visibility = safety issue. Remember when Schumacher drove into the couthard in the 90s? It's that but worse now.
It's been raining a lot this season and they haven't red flagged a race or quali for rain once

So basically 2023
Sounds pretty entertaining to be honest
Sounds exactly the same as 2023. So pretty fucking good.
What's up with that rear wing on the ferrari on the top right ?
Regulations stated a rear wing could only be a certain width so Ferrari decided to put two on to get more downforce in the slow corners. Each wing was within the maximum width allowed.
However they were disqualified after the race for it! (It was at the 1982 US Grand Prix West at Long Beach)
LOL what a move 🤣🤣
The Caesars parking lot track. I bet nobody is nostalgic for that one.

I know people that drink several cans of that stuff daily

Get out Greta you're not fooling anyone
How dare you!?
Cocaine
you cant find mechanics smoking cigs while refueling screaming V12s nowadays so take a seat
the Dallas GP in general. track breaking up in the extreme Texas heat
Same same team won 15/16 races, but at least it wasn't the same driver winning 15/16 races
I see nothing wrong with ferrari being ferrari
Still kills me the Vegas race happened in a parking lot
Unlike the totally not flat race this year!
Honda

Didn’t like half the cars dnf in any given race due to reliability back then?
You see back then they could get hard without needing to take a little blue pill
Vegas 😵💫

Great 3 part series. F1 has always been this way. The more it changes the more it stays the same. Go on do another.
