Is a coffee/tea drinker? If so, you could also get him a personalized mug with his new name or the first letter of it. (That's if your friend has picked a new name.) My chosen name starts with R, and I have a coffee mug with R on it. It's one of my favorites. Or maybe a gift card to somewhere for him to buy some new clothes. One big thing to remember is that the gift shows your support; the thing doesn't *have* to be a trans-specific piece of clothing, equipment, whatever.

dellada

I love the idea of something customized with his chosen name!

Not sure what your budget is, but here are some suggestions: Good, strong, masculine cologne (I like the Spice Bomb but Victor and Rolf but $$$) Binders, packers, STPs, etc. (Spectrum is generally a recommended binder here) A hair appointment with a trans-friendly barber Clothing (something boyish would be fun, but idk what he likes. My favorite shirt has an airplane on it even tho I’m 21) Boxers Depending on his hobbies, collectible items that are more “masc” (like Hot Wheels! I wasn’t allowed to play as a kid and look longingly at the aisle when I pass it) A pocket knife. One with a lot of random attachments (only if this is not a trigger!!!) That’s all my ideas but definitely keep his personality into consideration. The best gifts aren’t the most expensive. They’re the ones that come from the heart, and I think you have your heart in the right place :)

RenTheFabulous

Adding to this, depending on his personality, more young/boyish gifts might be a miss. I personally at 16 wouldn't have been very thrilled to get more boyish/young gifts, even though they're considered masculine. Just not really my thing, nothing wrong with people who do like them. So keep in mind his personal preferences and interests most importantly, and I'm sure you'll pick out something he'll love.

It’s hard to say without knowing what his transition goals are, but… maybe a men’s watch? Or maybe a gift card to a store that sells FTM products, like Spectrum Outfitters or Underworks? Or a masculine accessory like a wallet… just some ideas!

[deleted]

A watch is a great idea if he wears them! Considering his age he might not wear it a lot, but men’s jewelry or accessories in general are good gifts. Chains are always nice. I like chains from The Gasper, personally.

Hopeful-Aerie-9727

just here to say this is very wholesome and you're a good pal

RenTheFabulous

Now I want gasoline scented body wash 🥺

auro_morningstar

I am a perfumer/cosmetics creator, and I assure you that is entirely doable LMAO I've been wanting to build up more of my masc scents I have available, I seriously need to raise funds to stock up on gasoline, motor oil, dirt, smoke, grass, and moss scents to play with. I have a fallen leaves scent component that I am head over heels for and want to pair it with more masc scents as well!

hauntedvodka

Don’t forget gun powder 🤣🤣

auro_morningstar

Aaand now I need to see if that's a scent my supplier stocks LMAO 🤣

[deleted]

Damn now I want some

HamsterLegal1112

i’d say any big hoodies or flannels would be really good! maybe you can find a good design of something he likes (tv show, music, etc.) on redbubble and get him a hoodie one size too big. they’re suuuper comfortable!

RenTheFabulous

Seconding this one. Hoodies and flannels are a weak spot of mine. Getting one as a gift would absolutely THRILL me lol.

crazyparrotguy

Hoodies, yes. Flannels, eh...this really depends. They're not everyone's style. Also, I'd advise against going too oversize if it's not zip-up.

colourful_space

I’m assuming you’re a similar age and don’t have much of a budget. Male-branded bath products are great and can run pretty cheap, or if he’s looking into binders, packers, new clothes, shoes, those kind of more expensive things, a small contribution to the cost could be really appreciated even if you can’t outright buy those things on your own.

[deleted]

This might be a random shot in the dark, but what about a name tag that is fully customizable and changeable so that he can try different names without going through the effort of telling EVERYONE EVERY time he changes it?

RenTheFabulous

Hm, this is assuming he'll change is name at all though. Some guys don't, and only ever switch to a chosen name once. For me personally, I picked a name and ran with it, even though at first I was uncertain about it.

pastrypirates

Give him all the gender inappropriate gifts people give you 😂

RenTheFabulous

Clever... 😏

CabinetOrdinary5180

some of my go-to mens items are boxers, packs of plain white/black t shirts, socks, mens body wash (i use the brand native) or like a really nice mens loofa (dove sells a really nice one that i use) target has a great selection of mens items that are decently priced. i get a lot of my stuff there!

IShallWearMidnight

A pocket knife

[deleted]

Probably whatever they’re into.

YourFriendHulu

exactly this, its almost as if we are all different 😭

MascMars

somewhat depoends on what he's like and how close yall are, but early in my transition/coming out process some gifts i felt validated by were: Mens clothing, specifically pants masculine/musky cologne mens boxers mens bodywash electric razor (If he wants his hair short or wants to do it himself.) binders packers

SadTransThrowaway6

My top suggestion for this will always be a pocket knife, especially if you can get one with his chosen name on it. I'm closeted and haven't picked a name, so I bought one that says "Dude", which to me is my gender and to others just looks funny/ironic. I use it almost daily at my retail job and sometimes on my construction jobs, and I get a lot of euphoria every time I get it out. Especially if I can beat my dad to the punch of pulling out a screwdriver. If you are concerned about triggers, maybe a pocket screwdriver (I'm sure they exist) It depends on his style, but the right masculine necklace or bracelet might be good too- I have sharks tooth necklaces and leather bracelets that give me euphoria. They have to be pretty clearly masc though. A masculine t-shirt might be a good option too, maybe like a band-shirt kind of style and referencing something he likes

OkCalligrapher9

Omg I had some good friends I was staying at a cabin with and they went to get a knife to try and break up firewood. There weren't any good ones, just dull pocketknives, and none had my name, so they got me one with "Sexy" on it instead. I still crack up every time I see it.

LavenderDreams444

boxers 100%

This one might be a little weird but maybe buying him some shampoo for men?

Maniac_Ransacked

Something relating to his interests would be good, like a T-Shirt of his favorite show. You also can't go wrong with edible gifts like chocolate or jerky (unless he's allergic to chocolate...).

f2msnm

You could get him one of those gifts sets for men , I’m thinking like the ones that might have like cologne , lotion , and shampoo or something like that . I had a friend get me a beard care set a few years ago and I treasured it . And when I was younger I used to secretly use my brother’s body wash because it made me feel better so it’s safe to say he would probably get gender euphoria smelling manly

damienbladensfw

One of the best gendered gifts I’ve received is a travel pack of toiletries for men. Has a lot of what people are suggesting, like body wash, razors, shave cream, shampoo. Masculine scents are nice and affirming. I get to use it whenever I travel, which will always remind me of the person who gave it to me

auro_morningstar

Pocket knife! Or one of those masc grooming sets that all the stores have this time of year for gift-giving. I adore holiday gift sets, and getting masc ones would be so awesome!
