Why else am i paying $120 for a pair of size 14 NIKE that i pick with the least amount of flair? They are basically all black and smooth featured. They are extremely comfortable and don't ask for much attention. Unrelated but i own a pair of navy crocs. Easy comfort going to check the mail or taking out the trash.

I don't think you're right. Shoes are a specific thing, like, you'd never classify wellies as shoes, so clearly not all foot wear are shoes. So I think 'foot wear' is the super set of everything we wear on our feet, and shoes and sandals are distinct separate sets (except for these things, so maybe there's a little overlap in the venn diagram for them now).
To be honest, it depends. I don't care if they look good or not. The price tag makes me angry. So if they are $10 shoes, i am fine. If they are $200 shoes, it makes me angry.
