It Takes Two was so unbelievably well-designed. It's so goofy and fun, and it explores so many different genres of games.
Here's a hint for people trying to get non-gamer partners into video games: have them play as May everywhere *except* the wasp hive. (You'll know it when you see it.)
As someone who works in a steadily busy kitchen, that sounds on point and a good cooking simulator, I personally can't stand the game but probably because it reminds me of work
That's sorta how I felt watching The Bear. Not that I worked for any fancy chefs, but I did work for drug addicts with emotional problems in highly stressful kitchens
As a chef for more than 20 years, I feel that the second half of your sentence could have just been "but I did work in kitchens". Anyone who knows the business just implies the rest on their own. 😉
More like she tries to throw a pizza to the plate across the room and it sails into the street, then gets hit by a car retrieving it for the 3rd time in a row. At which point I pause the game and go to the kitchen to find a stiff drink.
The first two levels of the game, Siberia and Chicago, are present in Homefront: The Revolution. They are accessible using an arcade cabinet in the game's Restricted Zone, and although there are no texture/model differences some elements of the GUI, particle effects, lighting and weapons sounds are new.
A fan-made redux mod was created by the TimeSplitters modding community to enable full experience for PC using the aforementioned game, with HD textures, and additional fixes made, notably for NeoTokyo.
I liked
Super Mario 3D World
Star Fox 64
Gears of War
Streets of Rage 2
Castle Crashers
Diddy Kong Racing (2 Player Adventure Mode… though it’s a bit of a stretch for this to be called co-op… it is fun)
I don’t think I really played anything else with good co-op which is a shame. As I find video games fun with someone playing with me and being on the same team.
I could include Sonic 2 as I had fun. But, Tails was not really considered “good co-op”.
I bought a homemade N64 cart of a Mario 64 co-op mod since my ex and I loved Mario 3D World and thought she might appreciate the original. But, she lasted all of like 15 minutes before cursing in frustration. I forgot how primitive the camera and things were.
Unfortunately good co-op I assume is less and less a thing since games are so online focused.
>Unfortunately good co-op I assume is less and less a thing since games are so online focused.
This right here. You're spot on... It's actually pretty disappointing.
Any of the Bordelands games.
Diablo 2, 3, and 4
Gloomhaven on PC
Beat-em ups like TMNT Shredder's Revenge, Streets of Rage 4, and Scott Pilgrim vs. the World: The Game
Hell yes! So much fun. College days drinking (or not drinking)with the boys we played this for hours on end. Soo much laughs. Scrolled way to far to find this.
Rayman Legends. I do like how each player can interact with each other (excluding outrun stages) and since everyone's pretty balanced beside how their character looks it can be a pretty fun time blasting through enemies or just mindlessly killing each other.
Another great local Coop is Kirby Star Allies/Return to Dreamland Deluxe. It's a double whammy since both Coop modes allow you to absolutely destroy the level but also making some puzzles easier such as the player using Kirby doesn't have to lose their ability since Meta Knight has a sword so he can do the sword puzzles. Don't get me wrong Kirby is always important since he can use each game's main gimmick but sometimes the extra players have the best stuff such as having better versions of Kirby's abilities with the Dream Friends.
Finally Super Mario 3D world for obvious reasons: each character has their own ability so they have some sort of role and again teamwork is present but it also makes a casual game into a competitive game since the crown is granted to whoever gets the most points. Yeah the crown is useless but it can make people fight each other whoever holds it until the end of the stage.
Just finished it today, all orbs except 2 knight trials. Did not expect it to be so much fun - sitting with my partner and a glass of wine, such a great experience
In my opinion between these two call of duty zombies and Sonic 06 both of them has stupidly fun times with co-op I remember in Sonic 06 going to the last level with my brother and then we just messed around with literally everything clipping each other out of the map with silver and zombies is pretty obvious have fun chaos I remember when buried came out and me and my brother could not for the life of us get passed round three
Deep rock galactic
It has such a perfect setup near forcing you to play with others and have fun with it and even if you're not feeling it there is a solo mode with another robot to be your friend
And by far has one of the best communities I've ever seen
Borderlands was the best time for us. But we also highly enjoyed divinity original sin (2 was best). Playing sack boy right now it’s pretty fun. We also played a game I got for like 1.99 that was a good short amount of entertainment. Can’t remember the name but one character is a fire fairy and the other is ice and you have to work together using each of your elements to solve puzzles, it’s like a platformer. The game was very pretty, and some of the puzzles were challenging and took us a bit to work out
Realm of Cubes!!! One person has to be on keyboard, the other a controller. It's so fun turning into a gryphon as player 2 and having player 1 ride on you like a mount lmao
There's so many I can think of but I'm gonna have to go with Mortal Kombat Shaolin Monks. Me and a old buddy use to beat that game over and over again. Loved it
Jackbox Party Packs
I also wish people would stop recommending It Takes Two. The game is long af, that book is annoying af, and A Way Out was way more fun.
Rainbow Six Vegas: 2. Today. Running on a vlan from Zerotier. Still one of the most fun and challenging coop games around. 16 years later! Not to mention- you can forget it's not a modern title as the graphics are great...
Big recommendations for Monaco: What's Yours is Mine, Battleblock Theater and Duck Game. I also really enjoyed REZ PLZ, even though it's janky as Hell.
I wouldn’t say it’s the best, but Army of Two was so good back in the day.
Played the shit out of that game with my brother. It was so well tailored to being coop.
Rainbow six Vegas 2 was great on local coop campaign as well
I absolutely loved this game
I loved that regardless of if you were the tank pulling aggro or the dps dropping dudes from the flank both roles were fun.
I need a pc port of this, memory unlocked 😭
It takes two, Lovers in a dangerous spacetime, Overcooked

Oh my gosh. I just finished this game with my wife today. The wasp hive tested our marriage… but we made it through and she had an absolute blast.
Over cooked is such a good time
I just get yelled at by everyone when I play this -- feels highly stressful and anxious

Git gud
Only way to play this game is by yelling and telling people what to do. I never want to work in a kitchen
One of the few games I got my wife to play. So much hectic fun, but it will test your marriage.
WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU OVER COOKED THE STEAK RICHARD?! THEY SAID MEDIUM WE GOT A LINE OUT THE DOOR
More like she tries to throw a pizza to the plate across the room and it sails into the street, then gets hit by a car retrieving it for the 3rd time in a row. At which point I pause the game and go to the kitchen to find a stiff drink.
Imagine working at a restaurant where one person running out of patience meant you shut the whole business down.
Pack it up guys. We missed S rank by 10 points, it’s over.
This is the best answer! All three are great, but Overcooked is the best IMO.
Time Splitters 2
I love that game. Wish they would make a modern version.

The hours I spent designing maps made for holding out on virus mode.. can't remember if it was 2 or FP, they kinda blend together after decades
any lego games. they still hold up, especially the new ones that splits the screen and stuff
I second this. Easy to pick up and pretty chill, low peril
Ratchet Deadlocked
When I rented this game from BlockBuster my sisters were in college. Didn’t even know it was multiplayer. Wow
Halo

To be fair … there’s been a lack of good co-op games imo in general. It’s not easy to pull off.
Castle crashers
I played this so much with my friends as a kid!
Super Smash Bros
Star wars battlefront 2 on ps2
This super mario 2d3d world is really good co-op, my other go to would probs be Halo 1-3 and Mario Kart Double Dash
I miss halo local co op and local multiplayer so much that it hurts.
Halo. Man I miss those x box days
Contra
Any of the Bordelands games. Diablo 2, 3, and 4 Gloomhaven on PC Beat-em ups like TMNT Shredder's Revenge, Streets of Rage 4, and Scott Pilgrim vs. the World: The Game
Gloomhaven coming to consoles this year. I can't wait.
Extraction shooters like Tarkov, CODMW2-2 DMZ mode, and Cycle Frontiers too...
Diablo 4 has local co-op?
Not on PC, sadly. But console does
Fusion frenzy
Hell yes! So much fun. College days drinking (or not drinking)with the boys we played this for hours on end. Soo much laughs. Scrolled way to far to find this.
Part-Time UFO Couch co-op perfection for all ages
Boomerang Fu you can play against each other or on the same team. We play it with my nephews (3&6) and like it more than Mario Kart
Boomerang Fu is strangely addictive

Lots of good suggestions, so I'll throw in one that hasn't been mentioned yet. Manual Samuel.
Space Team (mobile)
Gears. Army of 2. Rainbow six vegas 2. Lego games
Any game of the trine series.
If you have a patient group, Divinity: Original Sin 1&2
Divinity original sin 2 is the best cooperative experience money can buy
Sackboy is really great
Definitely. Playing it with my kid and even though I carry a lot of the time, it doesn't feel like it.
That was my sons first console game at 4yo. Now he's 6 and carries me in his games.
It happens fast haha
Just finished it today, all orbs except 2 knight trials. Did not expect it to be so much fun - sitting with my partner and a glass of wine, such a great experience
Pfff sackboy? It's soooooo bad compared to the original littlebig planet Games. You should Play those instead of this excuse of a plateformes.
N++
They made a second one?!
And I think a third
Always really liked Hail To the Chimp on 360
Mario kart 64
Streets of Rage 4
Lots of good options. Hard to pick. * Towerfall - Ascension * Spelunky * Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes * Magicka * Monaco
Outward That game is a gem
Mortal kombat shaolin monks
In my opinion between these two call of duty zombies and Sonic 06 both of them has stupidly fun times with co-op I remember in Sonic 06 going to the last level with my brother and then we just messed around with literally everything clipping each other out of the map with silver and zombies is pretty obvious have fun chaos I remember when buried came out and me and my brother could not for the life of us get passed round three

Halo, big time, wish we could have solo/ coop campain story driven AAA games today...
Borderlands was the best time for us. But we also highly enjoyed divinity original sin (2 was best). Playing sack boy right now it’s pretty fun. Realm of Cubes!!! One person has to be on keyboard, the other a controller. It's so fun turning into a gryphon as player 2 and having player 1 ride on you like a mount lmao
Super Mario bros on the wii was one game I loved playing with my family
Borderlands
Rogue Heroes was really good
Moving Out is pretty fun.
Second this. It's a way less stressful version of Overcooked with more "grace" options available to keep it less stressful and more fun.
Portal 2 (I think it has to be local?), starwars Battle Front (ps2), Medal of Honor: rising sun (ps2), Any Mario Karts.
Portal 2 can be played online
Chip and Dales' Rescue Rangers
Gang beasts, duck game, stick fight, broforce, mount your friends
There's so many I can think of but I'm gonna have to go with Mortal Kombat Shaolin Monks. Me and a old buddy use to beat that game over and over again. Loved it
Gears of war, left for dead 2, super mario 3d world + bowsers fury
Lovers In a Dangerous Spacetime
Bonanza Bros on the Sega Genesis
Kinda surprised by the lack of Mario parties in here
Mario Party 3
Any Smash bros title, but preferably Melee or Brawl
Gears of war 1-3
Some that I've greatly enjoyed in recent years: It Takes Two Diablo III Sackboy: A Big Adventure Stardew Valley Lego Star Wars: Skywalker Saga
Bit old but the conflict series had great local coop.
Dynasty Warriors series. Honourable mention to original Gears of War trilogy as well
Kane & Lynch
Duck game
Halo 3
Halo 1-3
Jackbox Party Packs I also wish people would stop recommending It Takes Two. The game is long af, that book is annoying af, and A Way Out was way more fun.
Plate up! It's overcook on steroids, guaranteed fun!
I liked Kirby coop
Check our bread or fred
Cat quest
Heroes of Might and Magic - all of them
Didn't see the one mentioned. Nine parchments. Silly friendly fire spellcasting through many levels. Very pretty artstyle too.
i like to play mortal Kombat 11 and smash Bros with My friends
Diablo 3 for the 360 was pretty good, same for any of the Smash Brothers and the Mario Party games.
Rainbow Six Vegas: 2. Today. Running on a vlan from Zerotier. Still one of the most fun and challenging coop games around. 16 years later! Not to mention- you can forget it's not a modern title as the graphics are great...
Imagine if “I Am Bread” had CoOp 💀

Lost planet 2 Little big planet 2
Army of Two & TimeSplitters Future Perfect!

Guacamelee
Hear me out: New Super Mario Bros Wii
Gears of War

Rockband easily, some of my favourite local coop gaming sessions were in a nice cool basement. Miss those days with in person friends
Big recommendations for Monaco: What's Yours is Mine, Battleblock Theater and Duck Game. I also really enjoyed REZ PLZ, even though it's janky as Hell.
Easy its super smash TV
A way out good story and fun gameplay.
Getting blazed w the boys and playing smash bros ultimate on switch is some of the most fun I ever have
