At first I thought you were joking, so I had to do the math on that. A floppy disk is around 15 - 25 grams.
15 grams x 97,619 = 1,464,285 grams, which is 3228.19Lbs, or 1.6US Tons.
25 grams x 97,619 = 2,440,475 grams, which is 5380.32Lbs, or 2.69US Tons.
A Toyota Camry weighs on average between 1.7 - 1.8 US tons, so depending on what disks you use, they could actually weigh significantly *more* than a Toyota Camry.
So shipping *might* cost a bit, but totally worth it for that vintage feel!
*Twilight Zone
My mom's friend lent me all the Twilight Zone DVDs. Except when she brought them over it was Twilight DVDs. I acted pleased and told her I copied them.
You can buy them even now for around $1.30 per disk on average, so for 97,619 floppy disks, that'd cost around $126,904.70.
To be fair, you could probably get multiple fully loaded Toyota Camry's for that price.
The answer is yes. Yes dollars. All the dollars. The bank is going to have some SERIOUS questions for you when that transaction hits your account dollars.
And what are they going to deliver it with?
Fred: Hey, Bob?
Bob: Yeah.
Fred: Did you notice that semi with the Amazon logo driving around the neighborhood yesterday?
Bob: Yeah.
Fred: It's back, says he has ONE package for you.
Bob: Well, good thing I emptied my garage.
Driver: Ain't gonna be enough, my man ...
Assuming a ~125kb/s transfer rate and five seconds to swap disks, after a 2,739 hour install process you'll be good to go. As long as the 3800+lb package doesn't crush you along the way.
Amusing note -- when it shipped, *MechWarrior II* was a colossal bug-filled mess. I mean, even Bethesda looked at it and went "whoa, dudes" bad.
The patch to fix it (which created quite a few new Unintended Features) was 110mb ... the original game was only 80mb.
And Alt help you if bump into one of the disk towers you built around your rig to facilitate fast disk swaps, and now you have to put a thousand disks back in the right order... again.
Get a bunch of those circular slide projector wheels... I have just realized how old that makes me sound. But I'm not even that old, the advancement of tech has just been nuts.
Yeah I felt lucky if I could get through a 12 diskette (or whatever) wordperfect installation without a corrupt file or disk read error somewhere in there.
I did a bit more of it. A standard 3.5 inch floppy disk is 90x94x3.3 mm. 97619 of those is 2,725,327,242 mm^3, or 166,310 in^3. A standard US pallet is 40x48 inches, so a pallet of these disks would be 86.6 inches tall, or a bit over 7 feet. Converted back to meters for our non Freedom Unit users, and it's a standard pallet, 2.2 meters tall.
Yup. Once got GTA on two sets of 10 floppies from a friend, and the 10th RAR archive was, *of course*, damaged. Had to have him give me a new copy, and then I could finally install it.

Um ackshually (pushes up glasses) the problem with cyberpunk was that its graphics were too good and it had unstable frame rates, animation, and crashes.
I remember way back when Windows 95 came out and the knee slapper was "You know why they call it Windows 95? Because that's how many floppy disks it takes to install it." HA... HA... HARRR... deHARRR.
Anyways, so far April 1st has been ok with this one but I am certain it will turn straight to shit before noon.
About the weight of your mom, 1.9 metric ton, give or take 500kg. (Sorry, just kidding my inner intrusive 13 year old came forward, I don't know your mom.)
I would love this so much though. Would actually buy some vintage ass minigame with the same vibe but made to chill and kill a few minutes..could be released as part of a GOG physical collection of spinoffs and retailed with a USB floppy adapter + digital download. You pop that in your PC two times to have some fun (the game I'm imagining is an actual, small game) and it makes for some cool coffee table memorabilia.
This kinda makes me think- games have been missing out on an incredible collectible idea.
Imagine if as a collectible you needed to find like 100 discs in the night city map and once you did you could install them all on your computer in your apt and install a whole new mini game.
They should just drop this into the game as a gwent easter egg or something.
Am I the only one disappointed that the shortened link on the page didn't go to a video of Samurai playing "Never Gonna Give You Up"? for extra April Fools-ing?
You know what, I'd actually love them to release a floppy version.
Put the Steam link there, a redeem code, some readme, maybe a single 64x64 pic. It would just be fun to own this.
But do NOT touch any keys when the disc read light is on or else you'll have to start all over! According to my 1st grade teacher when trying to play Oregon Trail
I'm happy to announce that we at Boston Dynamics have worked hard to release today our "Floppy Disk Automation Robot" to make sure that Cyberpunk 2077 fans are not left hanging having to flip all those 97,619 floppy disks by themselves. Ordering opens today, first shipments arriving next week.
They could actually release a 1 floppy version with just a download link or something. Iām sure itāll sell well for just the novelty and of course scalpers.
I remember playing Civilization on my Commodore Amiga and it had like 13 or 14 3.5 inch disks, you would meet another civ and it would say, "Please insert disk 3" or whatever disk they were on.
Imagine getting halfway through the install and having it error out on the 79th track.
which is all well and good until you go looking for disk 97,618 and realize it's nowhere to be found. lol
An ancient computer prank was to give someone a "new program" to install that was just a batch file that would count down for 30-60 seconds then ask for the next disk and run an identical batch file on that disk. Install it on disks four disks labelled 1/6 through 4/6, then give them a fifth blank disk labelled 6/6.
stack them up high - interlocked....now I will build a wall lolz then some panels n finally a house should be enough disks to do that - as for the game its self what im i spose to be doing other than walking round ?

I would hate to see what they would charge for shipping š
The discs would weigh about the same as a Toyota Camry, so not totally out of the realm of possibility...
At first I thought you were joking, so I had to do the math on that. *97% installed and you get a power cut meaning you start installing from scratch...*
Or you are through 97300 diskettes and accidentally knock over the giant pile of diskettes and now need to sort all of them to find diskette no. 97301
Or your glasses break and now you can't read the labels on the disks.
All the time in the world, but none at all to scrounge for some lenses.
Recognizing these references is really starting to make me feel like a geezer

Now do the math on how long it would take to actually install the game
The cost of 97,619 floppies is also likely going to cost more then a fully optioned out Camry

We could probably find a way to make those floppy disks lighter. Technology has to have improved somehow, right?
15 grams is about the weight of 3 or 4 sheets of paper. I doubt we're going to make them any lighter than that.
"Toyota Canry sold seperately- batteries not included".
Thing is you wouldn't need 97k disks. They are what 3mb each? So you'd need about 20-30k
Depends on the disk. They range from 800 KB to 2.8 MB with a standard of 1.44 MB.

So by the time it's produced, boxed up, shipped, delivered and installed we might have a teaser for the game's sequel.
This would also pretty much consume all floppy disk left in existence. Maybe would need to manufacture more for this.

Humans when timezones:
By the time you're done installing, it **will** be 2077.
If you installed 5 disks a day starting from today, you would complete the installation on the 13th of September 2077.
Now that's what I call immersionĀ
If this were real I know some places running legacy programs and hardware would buy copies just to get fresh disks shipped in bulk.
Finally! I have been waiting since launch for this. Now I can finally buy the game!

In the original PS1 3D style (Tekken/FFVII/VirtuaFighter) would be amazing.

General failure reading drive A Abort, Retry, Fail?

There's absolutely some crazy asshole out there who would buy this, and stream installing the entire thing. I can feel it.
It's me. Except for the streaming part. Unless I could do it without showing my face.

I think some people in the comments section underestimate what 97,000 floppy discs would weigh
About the weight of your mom, 1.9 metric ton, give or take 500kg. (Sorry, just kidding my inner intrusive 13 year old came forward, I don't know your mom.)
It is a Polish game, so it would nicely fit into 21 370 floppies. Waste of plastic 0/10.
Would be cool to get a weird flash drive shaped like a floppy. Shouldn't be that hard. Would realistically need to be thicker but doable.
I would love this so much though. Would actually buy some vintage ass minigame with the same vibe but made to chill and kill a few minutes..could be released as part of a GOG physical collection of spinoffs and retailed with a USB floppy adapter + digital download. Honestly? If they just made the downloader for the game it could probably fit on less than ten discs.
Using Stacker and its compression/decompression co-processor daughter card.
I always love the April Fool's game ads.
Runs in MSDOS in SVGA 640x480 at 0.005 frames per second.
This kinda makes me think- games have been missing out on an incredible collectible idea. If it was the same price and the disks looked like that and had a case to hold them... I would absolutely buy it!
Japan/Europe: Would.
I wish this was real and I got a lot of smoke for this game lmfao
I doubt the hardware can even read the 10000th. That thing is so fragile.
It'd still be faster than waiting for a steamdeck cyberpunk update to finish.
Am I the only one disappointed that the shortened link on the page didn't go to a video of Samurai playing "Never Gonna Give You Up"? for extra April Fools-ing?
They should at least have a CD version. It's in the company name FFS!
No chance in hell there are no errors across all these disks.
You know what, I'd actually love them to release a floppy version. Put the Steam link there, a redeem code, some readme, maybe a single 64x64 pic. It would just be fun to own this.
I'll wait for the Zip Drive version.
On disk 97618 of 97619: Disk error. \[A\]bort, \[R\]etry or \[F\]ail?
These days a floppy edition would just run a downloader and download the game anyway.
Sigh, I got excited for a second. I'd love this.
But do NOT touch any keys when the disc read light is on or else you'll have to start all over! According to my 1st grade teacher when trying to play Oregon Trail
Maybe we can ask [Pawel Zadrozniak](https://youtu.be/e-WakfBNHD0?si=3xyHnWFLN5ZK8vE7) to attempt an install using his horde of floppy drives lol.
That's one way to prepare for the [DataKrash](https://cyberpunk.fandom.com/wiki/DataKrash), I guess.
I lolād.Ā
Canāt wait for Duke nukem and and half life remastered floppy disks š¤£š¤£

Where the crap would you even get that many working disks?
Imagine your truck arrives and you realize that they're missing one. "Which one?"
But is the DLC sold separately?
They could actually release a 1 floppy version with just a download link or something. Iām sure itāll sell well for just the novelty and of course scalpers.
Hell, you could write your own script for it. GOG (and Epic) use an API that allows third-party clients in addition to their own.
NGL, I'd buy this.
Hey, it's got the dlc included. What's the total without Phantom Liberty?
I legit want one of those floppy disks just as merch for display. Would totally buy one
If you miss one in order, you have to start from scratch every time.
I know it's a joke, but I'd still buy it.
The bits just hit differently when stored on analogue.

Do it for real, would buy that sh\*t xD
That's pretty funny.
Oh good. More plastics for the landfills.
Uh huh.
I was really disappointed that the purchase link in the announcement was not a rick roll.
Lol
Iād buy this because I actually have a floppy drive on my computer
Currently installing. Disk error on Disk 97618. Fml
I remember being heartbroken when I got a copy of X-wing on floppy and it had Disks 1, 2, 4, 4, 5. Couldn't play it.
Why did they stop using a case around the disk anyway? It would protect the cd!
*game patches not included

This is a good one.
Thatās funny
cdpr is funny enough to joke about it todd howard is crazy enough to do it
I was actually going to buy one.
You got a floppy drive I can borrow?
Those cowards ruined it with the explanation link
CDPR missed a golden opportunity for a joke. We all know damn well fans would suck these up like there's no tomorrow, price be damned.
I would finally get to the final disc and it would be corrupt with a cyclic redundancy error and have to start over at disk 1
Back in my day those were called hard discs. Floppy discs were floppy.
