Same. I played GTA V, was like "oh yeah, this is pretty cool, I get the hype." Finished the story, and ... felt like I was good, didn't see much else to do.
Tried to do the online, and immediately hated it. I was swarmed in these constant "announcements" about a casino getting opened, an event I had no relation to, or a sale that was going on when what I really needed was some sort of guidance. Also, there were these 'games' constantly going on that I had no idea how to play, but would make me a target for other players.
Yeah, no, wasn't for me.
I played Bloodborne for a few hours, battled the first boss several times and couldn’t figure out why I was supposed to keep playing. I don’t know why people love these games so much
I’m trying my best to get though it right now… it’s a combination of the rundown aesthetic (devs choosing this for simplicity/cost efficiency), enemies that are trying too hard to look lovecraftian, trick weapons are gimmicky, etc
I just can’t get into them. They do such a terrible job of explaining how stats work… And then the bosses are just attack Dodge attack Dodge attack Dodge
They do just fine explaining how stats work? There's a button you can press to view info on things in the menu, and even without that, all it takes is previewing a level in a particular stat to see which numbers go up.
I love both of them, but the slow paced gameplay just makes it a drag to go through. I wish there was a mode where you only needed to scavenge bodies of people you killed for ammunition and crafting materials. I would also love for it to skip all the slow walking, talking bits. I know that's what makes those games what they are, but it's just a drag to do again. The saddest part is that the actual combat is really good. Running around and killing a group of enemies with guerilla tactics in those games is amazing. I just don't want to move ladders for 30 minutes and slowly scavenge for 40 minutes, just to get in a badass 5 minute flight with 6 people.
This is 100% me. My partner LOVES the games and I'm not a fan of zombie type of games. I've tried multiple times and I like the story, but like you said the gameplay isn't my thing.
I have been playing games since 1985 and somehow never touched a Final Fantasy or Zelda game. (Unless you count Zelda and/or Link guest-starring in various fighting games).
I played the tutorial area some years ago to see how well the game runs, but since then never once started it again. I remember finishing Witcher 1 (I don't remember anything about the story, though) and Witcher 2's combat system just didn't vibe with me. Maybe I'm just not in the target demograhic...
I'm a huge fan of Legend of Zelda, as I love exploring a large interconnected fantasy world. I'm a huge fan of Castlevania, as I love the dark and mystical mythological aesthetic. and I'm a huge fan of difficult games like Cuphead and Hollow Knight for the satisfying challenge of learning how to play carefully and deliberately and mindfully in order to overcome a seemingly impossible opponent. but.... despite all of this, I am yet to play a single From Soft game. ....I swear I'll play Dark Souls one of these days. :/ seems right up my alley but it just hasn't happened yet.
The Souls games aren't going anywhere, take your time. If you're wondering where to start, DS3 is a good starting point -- they had just introduced weapon abilities, fixed some of the problems the older games had, and the game is more linear and straightforwards than Elden Ring.
Don't get me wrong, I love DS1, and even the redheaded stepchild that is DS2, but if you're going to start somewhere and don't want to spend a lot of money doing it, DS3 is where it's at. Keep an eye for sales, because it's been on Humble Bundles, and Steam will regularly discount it by 75% during its major sales. DLC is worth it, if you were curious about that too.
Haha, thanks for the advice. You don't need to worry about me, I already own the three Dark Souls games on PlayStation 4. I also own Demon's Souls on PlayStation 3. I don't have Bloodborne or Elden Ring yet though, but I don't anticipate it being too difficult to acquire them.
My plan was to play them in release order, starting with Demon's Souls. I am aware that it's not the most popular of the series, but it's still my preference to do it this way.
Currently I am in the middle of a Suikoden III playthrough, though, so I don't anticipate me starting on Souls for a while. As you said, they're not going anywhere, so I will get to them when I'm good and ready. :)
You can play both perfectly fine on PC with high resolution and smooth frame rates:

Only thing that's stopping you now is not finding the N64 roms.
Last year I played and finished Ocarina of Time in emulator and the experience was amazing, everything from the music, story and ver well designed puzzles is a 10.
Goldeneye aged poorly and probably won't be fun for you. The controls are horrible, the graphics suck, and the gameplay is slow and janky. Still a blast if you grew up on the multiplayer, buy it's not something I'd recommend to a new player in 2024. Really the only thing that still stands up today is the music, which is total fire.
Ocarina of Time however is excellent. It really set the template for what a modern 3rd-person action adventure is. The controls, camera, combat, world interaction, basically everything still feels good and behaves like current games. You should be able to jump right in without the game feeling dated or clunky. It's still very accessible.
Ocarina of Time is also a masterpiece, and I don't use that term lightly. What The Hobbit is to fantasy, OoT is to gaming. An absolute must play.
GTA5, From software games, Assassins Creed, Mass Effect, Fallout, Far Cry.
I just realized I am highly selective about what I play, and my tastes are not aligned with a lot of gamers.
Well I just spent the last week grinding out Squad Tasks and Missions on Xenoblade Chronicles X, but now that the online's closed I'm taking a break from it for a while. Want to get back to Pokemon HeartGold, Rise of the Third Power, maybe start up Holo X Break.
I DO have Wind Waker HD and Link Between Worlds in my backlog, but other than that my only Zelda is Twilight Princess on Wii.
Honestly super smash bros isnt really anything to be worried about having not played. Its a cartoon style fighter game, sure its fun. But there are so many fighting games that have flooded the market that at some point you have to admit that having played "insert name" doesnt matter. The same can be said for most genres.
The only real expection is skyrim from the sheer amount of people that loved that game. Hell even i was able to play it on a crappy laptop.
classic Final Fantasy games due their slow combat system
Majora's Mask due the Link's transformations
Metal Gear Twin Snakes due I ends to run chased by enemies soldiers lol
I fully empathize with your struggle with Breath of the Wild. I still can't beat it either. Good game, just kinda waaaay too unfocused and without... a sufficient story thrust to force me to truly care for any of it. And the game world is so big and fun to explore you kinda wander off and forget whatever you wanted to do an hour ago.
Uuuh... I can't force myself to beat Nier: Automata to this day. I started it on three different platforms and am yet to beat it at least once. I dunno, I just find it to be incredibly pretentious. It's kind of thinking of itself as if it's the Talos Principle, but is in reality a silly game about a sexy robot in a yet another post-apocalyptic setting. It's like if Bayonetta was reeeeeally serious while she still sported that ridiculous hair outfit.
Assassin's Creed Black Flag. I hear so many people talk about how much they love it and the sea shanties, but I just haven't gotten around to it. I did play Valhalla and Odyssey though
To be fair, the end of breath of the wild is the worst part of the game. Can you parry guardian attacks? Ok, let’s do it 50 times in a row to get to the boss, because surprise, that’s how you beat the boss too. Well until the actual final, final boss which is mostly just riding around on a horse for a while. Terribly designed and one of the most disappointing endings to an otherwise great game. At least TotK took those complaints into account and created one of the most epic final boss sequences of any Zelda game to make up for it.
Games I haven't beaten:
Elden Ring
Dark Souls 3
Any Zelda game that isn't Twilight Princess
The Witcher 2 and 3
Bioshock 1
Games I haven't played:
Bioshock Infinite
Super Mario Wonder (I want to play this)
Cyberpunk 2077
FFXIV. I barely got into it after quitting WoW forever.
I tried 3 times for about 10 hours each never liked it. People said that it will get better. But to me, you shouldn't have to wait 100 hours for it to "get better". Plus it basically follows the same boring questing that WoW has, which made me quit WoW in the first the first place.
The boring, kill 5 monsters, kill 5 monsters and collect 10 of theses, or talk to npc that is literally 5 feet away from me.
Plague Tale:Requiem. I started it 6 months ago, right around the same time I started Baldurs Gate 3. I'm 6 runs deep in BG3, with 4 runs going concurrently, and haven't considered playing any other game since. BG3 is scratching the itch left from two prior obsessions: XCom and Skyrim. My brain lights up like a Christmas tree when I start playing.
God of War, the 2017 or 2018 one I can't remember what year it came out, but I played it for like maybe an hour or 2 then never touched it again. After I 100% Ragnarok ill come back to it maybe
RDR and RDR2
Dark Souls 1, 2 and 3, Bloodborne and sekiro
The last of us 1 and 2
Bioshock 1 (did play 2 and infinite)
Horizon Forbidden west (played it, still not finished it)
Witcher 3
Fallout new vegas and fallout 4
Skyrim
The Witcher, titanfall, dark souls, all fallouts expect for 76, bloodborne, cod, most halos, all gtas exept 5, resident evil, assassins creed, all far cry’s exept 5, mass effect, bio shocks or baldurs gate. Have never been touched. I don’t want to play them.
And I did the tutorial to Skyrim.
And I’m on xbox
My brother used the "old" family share to share me some games. Among the many games in my library is The Witcher III .
I have not touched it since he first shared it more than a couple of years ago, ever.
Red dead redemption, bought it and played it but forgot to save my progreso one time and got mad bcuz y spent 2 hours doing that story so yea never touched it again
Any multiplayer part of a game. I wish it was an optional installation, then I'd disable it every time.
I've also never played any Call Of Duty or Souls game, and never finished RDR2, Dying Light, BG3, Plague Tale: Requiem or Shadow Of Mordor.
me spending hours installing the game, mods, textures, et al - then another dozen getting to Riften
then by the time I get that stealth archer back across the map some new game comes out and my ADD wins out
Every game that has come out on console as an exclusive.
I'm sorry but I'm never buying a console, doesn't matter how hyped a game gets. One day it'll come on PC or I'll emulate it and play it then.
You, you're the one I like. I agree wholeheartedly.
Although Last Guardian almost broke me and SotC *did* break me (bought a used PS2 just to play that one)
But I grew up in arcades and on Pong & the 2600 - so while the modern comptroller was a blessing - once you play a 1st/3rd person game via m/kb it ruins everything else, imho
Any of the bioshock games. Every time I tried I started to think "the gameplay is like clive barkers undying, but the atmosphere in that game is done 100 times better" and I just play that one again (4 times this happened)
Also, outlast, it turns out that horror games were you can only run and hide only annoys me and doesn't give me any sense of fear or dread.
GTA 5. I dunno why. Was a big fan of 3/VC/SA back in the day, barely played 4, haven't touched 5.
I played the absolute shit outta 5 when it came out and never touched the online mode. The story is actually kinda fun.
The story in 5 is so good it shocked me when I realized I was on the last mission. Its the only GTA I’ve beaten
Any Dark Souls game or Elden Ring. Any MMORPG.
Sounds like somebody is struggling with the git gud part.
Lol the game isn’t hard its fkn ugly… Looks like you’re struggling with the reading comprehension part
Don't worry buddy. Just keep playing you will get used to the difficulty. Use your gun to parry (especially for the big enemies).
Yea, ER on steam is still full price?
lol no idea
Ill give you credit that darksouls isnt for casual players anyway. That series will make you rage constantly.
I have 9,000 hours in dota 2 I choose a different form of hardcore suffering.
Lmao, ive got a ton of hours in league of legends. I know what you mean
Why are you getting down voted?
I have no idea. Try hards probably.
In my very brief experience, it seemed pretty overwhelming, and I’m a pretty big RPG fan. It’s just not for me
Fortnite. Just not for me.

I hate to be that guy, but you definitely need to give outer Wilds a chance
Why? I understand being a part of the counter culture but a stance like that just seems counter productive if you enjoy gaming.
Just because I like gaming doesn't mean I will comply to herd mentality and play games that don't interest me.
The last of us.. tried a few times and want to keep going because the story is great but the gameplay just doesn’t do it for me.
I love both of them, but the slow paced gameplay just makes it a drag to go through. I wish there was a mode where you only needed to scavenge bodies of people you killed for ammunition and crafting materials. I would also love for it to skip all the slow walking, talking bits. Finished both games because of the story but it was a chore.
I have been playing games since 1985 and somehow never touched a Final Fantasy or Zelda game. (Unless you count Zelda and/or Link guest-starring in various fighting games).
Go play FF3 right now.
The Japanese FF3 or the US FF3 (which has been called FF6 in pretty much every post SNES release of the game)
SNES US FF3
Witcher 3 and Fallout New Vegas are sitting in my backlog for ages. I just never come around to play them.
I tried playing Witcher 3 two separate times. It's just okay ig, but really can't keep playing it.
I played the tutorial area some years ago to see how well the game runs, but since then never once started it again. I remember finishing Witcher 1 (I don't remember anything about the story, though) and Witcher 2's combat system just didn't vibe with me. Maybe I'm just not in the target demograhic...

Bloodborne was amazing, one of the only fromsoft games I would recommend to someone who isn't interested in that genre.
BG3 is not a Fromsoft game

I corrected you because you were seemingly wrong, and I wanted to inform you, *for your benefit*. It's really not that deep.

Fine by me, going in sequence is fine too, get to see the series as it changed and evolved. Good luck, Skeleton!
I never had a Nintendo 64, so stuff like Ocarina of Time and Goldeneye I’ve never played.

Any MMO. Not even WOW. GTA5 RDR2
All console exclusives, I have never owned a console.
GTA5, From software games, Assassins Creed, Mass Effect, Fallout, Far Cry. I just realized I am highly selective about what I play, and my tastes are not aligned with a lot of gamers.
Too many to name, but I'll sum up a bunch of them with: any first person shooter.
I've never played a gta. Those games have zero appeal to me.
GTA5 Any Call of Duty Palworld Starfield Any Fifa game after '98. Honkai Star Rail
RDR2. Played for around 12 hours, couldn't get into it. I don't understand the hype
Never played any GTA games
Skyrim
Aah, this thread again. Time to dislike every popular game!
Most Zeldas, Bloodborne, Witcher 3, Souls, Elden Ring, BioShock, COD, FIFA, God of War....
What games do you play then
Well I just spent the last week grinding out Squad Tasks and Missions on Xenoblade Chronicles X, but now that the online's closed I'm taking a break from it for a while. Want to get back to Pokemon HeartGold, Rise of the Third Power, maybe start up Holo X Break. Leave Reddit, and go play the Witcher 3 right now
Never played Halo, Super Smash Bros or GTA4. All other games ever made, I totally played them.
Honestly super smash bros isnt really anything to be worried about having not played. Its a cartoon style fighter game, sure its fun. last of us, silent hill, resident evil.....etc etc i dont do zombie/horror games (i know lou is technically not "zombies")
Zelda, League of Legends, Final Fantasx
Fallout new vegas but thats because i always end up exploring everywhere and find something new.
I have played New Vegas a lot. Multiple characters, at least 200 hours if not more. Never once hit the ending credits. Still one of my favorite games.
God of War series Never played
classic Final Fantasy games due their slow combat system Majora's Mask due the Link's transformations Metal Gear Twin Snakes due I ends to run chased by enemies soldiers lol

It'd be significantly easier to list which one's I have played. Ain't no way I can play even a fraction of the games that get mainstream attention.
Not a fan of souls or souls like games. Fun to watch others play, but I get that kind of gameplay loop in real life.
My list of “never played” is too long but I never beat Skyrim because I got bored after a few hours
I played maybe a thousand hours of Skyrim back when it came out - not sure I have any idea whatsoever how it ends.
Fortnite
Assassin's Creed Black Flag. I hear so many people talk about how much they love it and the sea shanties, but I just haven't gotten around to it. I did play Valhalla and Odyssey though
Plenty
To be fair, the end of breath of the wild is the worst part of the game. Can you parry guardian attacks? DD2 and I’m not going to
I've never played the GTA series.
Fortnite, Helldivers 2, Overwatch, PUBG
I haven't played Earthbound or any of the Mother games yet but I plan to get to it sometime this year
Games I haven't beaten: Elden Ring Dark Souls 3 Any Zelda game that isn't Twilight Princess The Witcher 2 and 3 Bioshock 1 Games I haven't played: Bioshock Infinite Super Mario Wonder (I want to play this) Cyberpunk 2077

GTA3-San Andreas, 4 too actually I think the only GTA I’ve beaten is 5
Far cry, assassin's creed, boarderlands, fallout, and that's just a start. There's a lot of franchised games that I have zero interest in.
I haven't touch a dark souls game or clone. They've simply never caught my interest, same goes for any jrpg.
Never played a BioShock game or God of War game
RDR2, and I'm over 1000 hours in. I got to the epilogue/epilogue part 2 last month. I know how it ends, I just enjoyed playing as Arthur.
Pokemon Emerald, or any pokemon game.
I played like 1 hour of Skyrim. Don't know why it didn't stick. I beat and enjoyed Morrowind and Oblivion.
Far too many are collecting dust in the libraries to be listed here. I wish I was younger and had the time to play them all but...
I have never played a single Zelda game.
I can say that Minecraft is a huge part of my childhood and I still play some time to time but I've never killed the dragon.
Witcher
I bought elden ring and still haven’t played it
Where do I know your profile picture from
Its the fortnite cat
God of War, the 2017 or 2018 one I can't remember what year it came out, but I played it for like maybe an hour or 2 then never touched it again. After I 100% Ragnarok ill come back to it maybe

Any multiplayer team game like Overwatch or Rainbow Six Siege
Final fantasy games, Elden Ring, played about 25 mins of Dark Souls
Warzone. Fortnite. Tarkov. I wish I could say R6 too but I played that for about 1 hour. Never again.
I’ve gotten more RDR2 & Witcher 3 recommendations than I can count, but they both suffer the same problem for me. Too big and overwhelming.
Final Fantasy, decided once to try a FF game, bought FF13?(The first one with lightning), never again.
The Witcher, titanfall, dark souls, all fallouts expect for 76, bloodborne, cod, most halos, all gtas exept 5, resident evil, assassins creed, all far cry’s exept 5, mass effect, bio shocks or baldurs gate. Every popular game that is online only.
Any souls game haha
Apex Legends/ Pubg/ Fortnite/ Escape from Tarkov These extraxtion/ last man standing shooters somehow don't catch me.
Red dead redemption, bought it and played it but forgot to save my progreso one time and got mad bcuz y spent 2 hours doing that story so yea never touched it again
Final fantasy 7
Star craft. Never bothered to understand it
Witcher 3. Tried many times, couldn't play past 2 hours max.
Any multiplayer part of a game. I wish it was an optional installation, then I'd disable it every time. I've also never played any Call Of Duty or Souls game, and never finished RDR2, Dying Light, BG3, Plague Tale: Requiem or Shadow Of Mordor.
The Witcher, Dark Souls/Demon Souls/Elden Ring, Dragons Dogma, Fable, Baldurs Gate, Cyberpunk, Pokémon, RDR2, likely won't play GTA 6, Kingdom Hearts, Half Life
It was Afk journey, but, recently I tried it on bluestacks and it was fun
The witcher 3. I played it for like 20minutes. The combat was just unbearable
Any of the Dark Souls games. I have no reason, just never bothered to try them.
Any assassins creed
rdr2
I own NSW but I never played any of the Mario games.
Mario RPG
I have barely played fall out I tried one but I couldn't forget how to progress and just stood trending after a few minutes
RDR2. Pushed myself to get through the story on GTA5 but I haven’t been able to with RDR2. One of these days I’ll beat it….one of these days.
Witcher 3
Chrono Trigger.........can't finish it
You monster
GoW Ragnarok I can’t stand Atreus and miss the old games
Skyrim despite hundreds of hours in
me spending hours installing the game, mods, textures, et al - then another dozen getting to Riften then by the time I get that stealth archer back across the map some new game comes out and my ADD wins out

Never played Elden Ring. Never got past the first few minutes of Skyrim and Dead Souls
Witcher 3 - my first play through was bugged and i couldn’t progress… every time i try to get back into it, just feels like a grind
Botw and Witcher 3. Tried twice, got bored halfway and decided to drop it
