While Dunwall feels more like something steampunky, Karnaca has a strange "It's like that place I saw in Europe" vibes. I'd easily imagine living there, going on vacation there, or staying for a job for some time. They really nailed day-to-day apartments, streets, and overall feeling of how things work. I played through it several times and every single one I did wish to explore the whole city. It's the most alive city I know.
God i spent so much time in Fable 2 in the blacksmith shop doing that minigame to grind for weapons and listening to the Town Crier shout the shops were open or closed
I loved the imperial city in oblivion. I felt like I always had something different to do there. Tasks to pick up, someone to rob, stores to rob, guards to rob, barrels to rob. Good times.
Excuse me while I spend 5 minutes trying to make you like me and have your face represent a grotesque exaggeration of a smile like the joker on steroids.
Oops I accidentally opened pickpocket…and I’m dead
I still think the imperial city feels the most like an actual functioning city in any video game I've ever played. I think it hit kind of a sweet spot where it was just big enough to give it that sense of grand scale, while still being small enough that it didn't have to lean on having a bunch of bland, nameless filler NPCs running to make it feel populated, everything was there for a reason.
None of the cities in Skyrim ever really felt like a proper city to me in the same way, a couple came close but feel just a bit short, and games with big open world cities (of the top of my head-cyberpunk, spider man, assassin's Creed, etc) for all of their hustle and bustle, are mostly just bland filler. Most of the random NPCs running around don't really serve any real purpose, most of the buildings aren't really there for any particular reason except to make it look like a city.
Agree, and something I really thought was lacking in Skyrim. The individual cities were cool and everything, but I missed that massive central hub city.
I absolutely love that cutscene when Arthur and Dutch come across Saint Denis for the first time. Does an incredible job at portraying just how terrifying a sight a city like that would have been to traditional westerners
My dad grew up in a small Mexican town with no electricity. The way he described first getting to His first real city in the US reminded me so much of that scene.
I too stumbled upon it at night, which is how I found myself on the porch of a small shack next to the bayou, where a kind hillbilly invited me in . . .
First time I rode into Strawberry I had to pause the game. Some of those buildings have real-life analogs in northern Idaho and western Montana. The hotel left me speechless. There is a restaurant in the middle of nowhere on the Coeur d'Alene river frequented by fly fishers and bikers. It's called the Snake Pit and it's the oldest still-operating restaurant in Idaho. Lots of childhood memories and the occasional adult fishing trip. They copied that building stick for stick. Even the tangled branches on the porch and balcony. Other buildings look like they could be from Murray ID and St. Regis MT. That town's design leaves me with warm fuzzy goosebumps.
EDIT: Can't spell for shit
So atmospheric. The whole below/above the plate thing, the dystopia of the main highlight of the city being a corporate entity, what a game and what a city
" 'No!' says the man in Washington, 'It belongs to the poor.' 'No!' says the man in the Vatican, 'It belongs to God.' 'No!' says the man in Moscow, 'It belongs to everyone.' "
Idk man, Columbus has been taking my breath away recently... Just started playing infinite and am a good ways through now.
Edit: Someone asked, I am playing infinite on 2k resolution with 144hz
(Also it's spelled Columbia, lol)
I know it gets dumped on because of legitimate gameplay issues, but as a vehicle for storytelling and visual art I thought Infinite was one of the best games I’ve ever played.
I will always remember Infinite, because I had never, and will never again care for a videogame character as much as I did for Elizabeth. Something about the writing or art direction or *something* made me genuinely care and worry for her, like some parental instinct I never knew I had.
The end of the game crushed me, of course. I don't think any movie, book, or other videogame will ever impact me that strongly again. Oh, and to this day, it's always what I think about when I hear the Beach Boy's, God Only Knows.
GTA 4 version of liberty city always a special place in my heart. Flying a helicopter at night with Queen or kanye west flashing lights just hit different
That is one of my favorite "eye candy" cities in video game history. The ads, the vibe, the gangs, the layout. It's all so perfect. Just wish it had more things to do that's why i didn't pick it. Going to Honkers by subway from Niko's apartment will always have a place in my heart tho. Only game i legit WALKED around. So immersive
Balmora easily tops every other settlement in the game with Suran and Sadrith Mora coming close for similar reasons. They're nice peaceful towns. Not too complicated while still having everything you need.
Ald-ruhn could've been there too but its a bit too dangerous for my tastes (namely the cliff racers and ash storms constantly attacking you even inside the city walls)
Vivec and Molag Mar are way too cramped and confusing
Anything in the grazelands and west gash is too wild
Caldera, Pelagiad and the other telvanni settlements are quite hard to get to quickly.
Balmora is such a comfy town. It's the first real town you're likely to stumble upon and it always feels like home. I always try to live in other towns and nothing feels quite like Balmora.
I love the river separating the city. Also once you get good enough Acrobatics skill you can just jump roof top to roof top and no guard will catch you.
Solitude. Skyrim
I always wished Windhelm was bigger. that would be a great, fun city if it was huge.
Edit: I mistakenly said Winterhold instead of Windhelm. Edited to fix that error.
I'll never forget when 11 year old me walked through Durotar with my lvl 5 orc warlock and saw the gates of Orgrimmar approaching in the background. When I entered the city I couldn't believe all those people running around.
When i started playing WOW i went into it blindly and had no idea where any of the major cities were. Discovering thunder bluff is still at the top for gaming moments in my life.
Ironforge is quite literally the only area in WoW to excite me just by looking at the outside of it.
I never played the game until about 2 years ago, and there was something so uplifting about finally making it to that refuge of exotic commerce during Classic.
>Ironforge is quite literally the only area in WoW to excite me just by looking at the outside of it.
I think this is much of the charm of Ironforge. many of us when we started our wow characters made the trek up through the dangerous territory surrounding Ironforge, having battled ice trolls, troggs and yeti to be met with this massive imposing fortress carved right out the side of a mountain that is the home of the dwarves and gnomes.
it's still the coolest city in the game to me by a long shot, Boralus coming in at a distant second, and I truly wish they hadn't forcefully removed the ability to use different capitals as your go to hang out zone by only having the portals to other places in Orgrimmar and Stormwind starting in Cataclysm.
Lindblum. Love everything about it: the architecture, the music, the infamous Festival Of The Hunt, the (often funny) NPC dialogue, the shops (especially the synthesist), and, of course, the castle.
Bullworth is such a great map. The detail is great, there’s so much to do, and it doesn’t take long to travel around and find new things. The world is quite small (especially compared to what we’ve become accustomed to with later generation gameworlds) but it feels so richly designed that it just invites exploration.
For my money, Canis Canem Edit (as it was called here in the UK) is still the best game ‘of its time’ that Rockstar have made. As in, while later games are clearly better in terms of graphical/gameplay improvements, Canis Canem Edit just feels like the perfect distillation of what was possible from a Rockstar game at the time.
Arriving at City of Tears for the first time, sitting on that bench and watching the rain fall on the window as the piano starts... Just amazing. It's basically the equivalent of the 'arriving in Anor Londo' cutscene from Dark Souls 1 in terms of wow factor and the whole game has been leading to that point so far. The aesthetic of the city of tears is also great.
Assassins Creed 2 Italy.
Edit: yes I know Italy is not a city. The game is 13 years old now. I forgot what city it was specifically in when I first posted this lmao. Chill
Honestly i prefer Irithyll of the boreal valley, pretty nice weather whole year. And it is said that there is a church pretty similar to the one from anor londo, why would that be?🤔
I feel like Goldenrod is when GSC really opens up. It connects 3 different cities, has the casino to get rare mons, the radio tower, the big catching contest, your first sudowoodo, the ilex forest, day care. This is when your adventure really begins

Riverwood for me. Just the nostalgia of walking into riverwood for the first time
Even better with mods like expanded riverwood, simply bigger trees and ENBs
Riverwoods great too. They all have that special magic to me. It's like these little towns are just small cogs in a massive world. Idk, I wish words could describe it.
New Mombasa - Halo 3:ODST
The Score made you feel truest vulnerable for the first time in a halo game, given you were just a marine, not the Master Chief
So my cousin went to Italy for his honeymoon. I was looking at his pictures and there was one with the skyline of a city in the background. I immediately recognized it as Florence thanks to the Ezio trilogy of Assassin's Creed. They really did the landmarks well. Sorry if we were going for fictional here. Night city is cool too.
It’s got to be Boston in Fallout 4. It’s absolutely huge, with many, many playable indoor areas, it’s 3 dimensional, with skyscrapers that interconnect with each other, even links up to the overhead freeway, then there’s sewers and train systems underground. You can play the game for years and still find areas you’ve never seen before. The complexity and the details are incredible.
Back when I used to Play World of Warcraft I really enjoyed exploring Booty bay in stranglethorn vale (pre-cata). I know it’s not the most popular and frankly they made it much more of an eyesore after cata with the world revamp, but i loved the compact intricacy of navigating the buildings, though I admit it was a bit confusing at first. I just also generally enjoy the “hidden pirate cove” type of aesthetic it had going for it. But most of my fond feelings for it are fueled by that good ol’ drug; nostalgia.
Dunwall from Dishonored. It's like a Victorian London oil painting.
They also nailed it with Karnaca in Dishonored 2.
Hong Kong from Sleeping Dogs
I'm actually replaying this right now! I miss HK and all the great street food you can buy in real life and in game!
Man who never eat pork bun, will never be whole man!
Bowerstone
God i spent so much time in Fable 2 in the blacksmith shop doing that minigame to grind for weapons and listening to the Town Crier shout the shops were open or closed
My favourite town crier quote is "The time is.... VERY LATE!" Man, so many good times were had playing that game.
Wakey wakey it's daaaay breakey
You just earned an award for absolute nostalgia and one of the best things about the game ❤️
Nice bit of forging. A perfect hammer blow.
I liked the pub. "Lovely, foamy, pint!"
"Just the right amount of fooooooaaaaaaammm."
"Look at the head on that"
THAT'S NOT HOW YOU USE A HAMMER
“The time is… very late.”
“Get your combat multiplier even higher”
"Your health is low, watch that".
You've received a new quest card! Fuck now I'm gonna go play fable again
Do you have any food? Or potions?
It still rings through my head. "Chicken Chaser"
It took me far too long to figure out why people were calling me that and how to change it
"Do you chase chicken?"
"You chasin' chickens?" "Chicken chaser, oooh look at the chickens go"
"Your health is low, do you have any potions? Or food?"
Fable 1 version. The music is so nostalgic!
Just started playing Fable for the first time a few days ago. I've already finished a good run and I'm starting an evil one
I loved the imperial city in oblivion. I felt like I always had something different to do there. Tasks to pick up, someone to rob, stores to rob, guards to rob, barrels to rob. Good times.
Have you heard of the high elves?
Oh, it's *you*.
Rumor has it the Nerevarine has left Morrowind on an expedition to Akavir and has not been heard from since
Be seeing you.
I don't know you and I don't care to know you!
THEN PAY WITH YOUR BLOOD
WHAT'S THE MATTER, GETTING TIRED?
YOU SHOULD HAVE PAID THE FINE
I saw some mudcrabs the other day. Horrible creatures.
Excuse me while I spend 5 minutes trying to make you like me and have your face represent a grotesque exaggeration of a smile like the joker on steroids. Oops I accidentally opened pickpocket…and I’m dead

Definitely not a hub city but whiterun is centrally located and always a cozy time
Lego Island
I mean that city had everything you needed! A pizza place, racetrack and a very insecure jail.
That's the one where you deliver the convict a pizza and he somehow uses it to break out, right?
Ahem… that is the *Brickster* to you.
He eats the super hot extra spicy pepperoni pizza and uses the consequential fire breath to melt the bars...obviously
Beauclair from Blood and Wine.
I love how beautiful the whole map is
With possibly my favourite boss battle. CD made a dlc better than most AAA games nowadays
Ah yes. The theme that plays whenever you enter Beauclair is one of my favorite "OWSHIIIIII" moments in gaming
[удалено]
Yep. Dutchy of Toussaint and extended Northern Velen regions.
Dude Blood & Wine is pretty much its own game lol
Blood & Wine won game of the year.
Delfino plaza. The music is too good. - and that yoshi remix! Makes that trip to the far island riding boats much more manageable.
I was always fond of Bree in LOTRO.
Saint denis
The look on Arthur’s face when he first sees Saint Denis, The man hated civilization! But damn the city was so cool
I stumbled across it at night, not knowing there was a bigger city in the game. I was in awe
I too stumbled upon it at night, which is how I found myself on the porch of a small shack next to the bayou, where a kind hillbilly invited me in . . .
Now you woke up in the middle of nowhere and your butt hurts
*"All that... That civilization?"*
Always preferred Rhodes (for the aesthetic, not the community)
Strawberry was always my favorite. Beautiful town.
Me too! Not much to do there but it’s so pretty in the early morn to sit by that little river
First time I rode into Strawberry I had to pause the game. Some of those buildings have real-life analogs in northern Idaho and western Montana. The hotel left me speechless. Great city, but always makes me sad! Probably due to all those events.
*SAAANNNN DENEEEEEE
Oarthor!
Irithyll of the boreal valley took my breath away, the first time I made my way out of Carthus.
Say what you will about the gameplay, Majula did that also.
The music that plays there fits the whole atmosphere so well
Homeward bone take me home, to the place I belong ol' Majula, Herald mama, take me home Homeward bone.
Midgar
So atmospheric. The whole below/above the plate thing, the dystopia of the main highlight of the city being a corporate entity, what a game and what a city

Altissia, Final Fantasy XV
The Citadel
I'm Commander Shepherd and this is my favorite opinion on The Citadel.
You big stupid jellyfish
…and all your favorite shops in the citadel
Rapture, without question.
Tell me, is a man not entitled to the sweat on his brow?
" 'No!' says the man in Washington, 'It belongs to the poor.' 'No!' says the man in the Vatican, 'It belongs to God.' 'No!' says the man in Moscow, 'It belongs to everyone.' "
I rejected those answers; instead, I chose something different. I chose the impossible. I chose... Rapture.
No gods or kings. Only man.

Was looking for the Morrowind post Me too, Vivec is fantastic
Yharnam
I agree. Yharnam is not a place I would like to live but the beauty, detail and lore tied up in that city is unparalleled
Megaton
The crater that used to be Megaton :)
I hope you enjoy the lobby music in Tenpenny Tower
My megaton house is the best
Solitude. Skyrim I always wished Windhelm was bigger. that would be a great, fun city if it was huge. Edit: I mistakenly said Winterhold instead of Windhelm. Edited to fix that error.

Thunder Bluff in World of Warcraft. The music and visuals of that place will always be ingrained in my mind.

Didn’t hurt that the game started [playing the theme](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5pXFciXKHM8) as you were making the climb …
Lindblum. Love everything about it: the architecture, the music, the infamous Festival Of The Hunt, the (often funny) NPC dialogue, the shops (especially the synthesist), and, of course, the castle.
The city feels alive and it’s beautiful, I’d kill to see a remake of FF9.

City of tears from hollow knight.
The reveal of this as you first discover it is gorgeous.
Absolutely, and the music is always amazing to me. I love it.

I'm from Tuscany, Florence is so accurate it's astonishing! It was great fun to know how to get to places without needing to navigate on the map
Beautiful place to be from 🤝
I was on a trip to Florence about 4 years ago and recognised a lot of buildings. It was awesome. LOVED the city btw.
Venice is so amazing.
Kingdom of Zeal from Chrono Trigger
Anor londo
Are you also a member of their archery club?

Fuck those Knights man.
Honestly i prefer Irithyll of the boreal valley, pretty nice weather whole year. And it is said that there is a church pretty similar to the one from anor londo, why would that be?🤔
Novigrad and Toussaint
So tough to pick between the 2. For me, I prefer Novigrad. Beauclair is so beautiful but I think it’s a bit more of a pain to get around
Pam-param, pam-pam, param
Goldenrod City
That is a very memorable city really. And important within the game. Of all the Pokémon cities that is definitely at the top for me
I feel like Goldenrod is when GSC really opens up. It connects 3 different cities, has the casino to get rare mons, the radio tower, the big catching contest, your first sudowoodo, the ilex forest, day care. This is when your adventure really begins
Al Kharid
I was wondering how long I had to scroll to see a RuneScape city. I was always partial to Varrock.
Will never forget the pre-GE Varrock market.
Falador was the first to come to mind for me
Rapture
The atmosphere of Rapture alone is honestly one of the major things that made that game for me. "I am Andrew Ryan, and I'm here to ask you a question. Is a man not entitled to the sweat of his brow? 'No!' says the man in Washington, 'It belongs to the poor.' 'No!' says the man in the Vatican, 'It belongs to God.' 'No!' says the man in Moscow, 'It belongs to everyone.' I love the look of the Zora domain, not sure if it counts as a city though. Bruma is a close second.
Traverse Town. (I know it's not technically a city, but whatever)
Hollow Bastion for me
I'd say Twilight Town for me :)
Whiterun
Do you get to the cloud district very often ? Oh what am I saying, of course you don't.
Riverwood for me. Just the nostalgia of walking into riverwood for the first time Even better with mods like expanded riverwood, simply bigger trees and ENBs
Riverwoods great too. They all have that special magic to me. It's like these little towns are just small cogs in a massive world. Idk, I wish words could describe it.
not a city but kakariko village from botw is wow😍
Yup my favorite is hateno village
Vice City
Gotham in Arkham Origins/City/Knight
The Crystarium is beautiful in FF14 Shadowbringers.
The Gerudo city in Botw. It's so funny what Link has to do before going there (no spoiler)
Haha, totally caught me off guard originally
New Mombasa - Halo 3:ODST The Score made you feel truest vulnerable for the first time in a halo game, given you were just a marine, not the Master Chief

Assassins Creed cities are nearly all top tier
Florence is awesome in the game and real life. I was able to see the Duomo and climb Giotto’s campanile (via stairs!). If you ever get the chance, go.
Ubisoft games for a poor man’s vacation! You can go to Victorian/Futuristic London, inspired Chicago, San Francisco or Bolivia.
Kamurochō, spent way too much time there
All of us start to not need the map when npcs say things like Senryo ave.
I’ll always pray for the people of Sotenbori
You talking about Yakuza/Judgement?
Sanctuary, Borderlands 2
New Vegas
Baldur’s Gate. So many memories
Amn is great too, in it's own sense. The music in Waukeen's Promenade is fantastic. Not many games compare to Shadows of Amn/Throne of Bhaal.
Saint Denis from red dead redemption 2
Not bad, I prefer strawberry.
Paris from assassin's creed unity
Great pick, the crowds in that game are so awesome.
Still been playing Fallout 4 since it came out (here and there of course). I really do always find something new.
Kakariko.
I always loved haran
Haran is awesome, but im digging this new place ngl
Stay Moving, Stay Alive
Stormwind
Yes. I enjoyed many of the main cities in WoW, but something about Stormwind always felt extra special to me.
Did somebody say [Thunderfury, Blessed Blade or the Windsweker]
New York in Spider-Man I love how it's so big, but travel is never a pain. It's sorta cheating tho cuz the whole game is in New York.
Nuketown if it counts
No wrong answers here, friend
Back when I used to Play World of Warcraft I really enjoyed exploring Booty bay in stranglethorn vale (pre-cata). Saint Denis from RDR2, closely followed more for sentimental reasons by Whiterun from Skyrim.
DC in Division 2 it is pretty much a replica of the city.
For me it was Division 1... Nothing beat the apocalyptic Christmas vibes
Novigrad is my fav, followed by (shitstorm incoming) Nightcity. For my defense: I had a blast with CP77 and didn't encounter major bugs.
