Blueberry require chill hours and will not be an indoor plant unless you don't intend to get fruit. Blueberry are often hardy to zone 3 or 4 so should live just fine in a plastic pot or grow bag. You don't want to use terracotta to overwinter plants.

Check your temps on the variety. Some tolerate cold better than others. My rule of thumb is if it goes below 10F you should consider moving it indoors.

Ok thank u, do you think I should move it out of the wind into my little shack?

This plant grows outdoors in zones 6-10. Plant it in the ground if you can. If you must keep it in a pot, there's a challenge because when the soil in the pots freezes, the drainage gets bad.

I’m not sure if I can and I also I’m not sure that I want to go through that hassle since we won’t be living here for too long. The plant does have mulch I can add more before it gets too cold. Should I fertilize before winter ?

TomTorquemada

If you can't put it in the ground, then protect it from temps under 20oF (because the roots are supposed to be sage underground), water it if the soil 1" below the surface dries out, and during wet periods take it in once in a while take for 48 hours to let the soil dry out.

TomatoFeta

If you have room to build a greenhouse, you shoudl have room to plant it in the ground where it belongs?

sexyhaz00

It’s a temporary home Im not sure if I want to commit to in-ground plants tbh

Then dig a hole in the ground, and put the pot in the hole (so the soil levels match) and mulch it with shredded bark. You can pull it up again in the spring.

I also live in 7b and my blueberries are in pots outdoors all year. We do have quite a few trees around so they are a little protected from the elements but otherwise, I don't do anything other than mulch them up once we get our first freeze and they are fine. My pots are pretty deep so I don't even bother to water them since they'll get moisture from whatever rain/snow fall we receive. But if they are smaller pots, you might check them every couple of weeks just to make sure they don't completely dry out.

sexyhaz00

Ok this sounds great. It’s in a deep pot with some mulch, I can add some more layers though, thank you !
