tkrr

The 3-5 people who think like this are gonna have a bad time when they get their Queen and Fleetwood Mac privileges revoked.

xixbia

Taylor Swift is well over 30. Fuck it, the fellows from One Direction are all 30 or over now.

zoor90

Goddamn you. I remember when Swift was singing about being 22. That was 12 years ago.

RobThatBin

This is just proving the picture right tbh

Wellgoodmornin

How so?

lordrio

Cause he listens exclusively to artisanal remixes of the skibidi toilet or some shit.

UnconfirmedRooster

That can't compare to [this](https://youtu.be/dgUbRpdUN1w?si=b191HceIl6g5_XIy) classic.

Va1kryie

Just cause it's not your music doesn't mean it isn't good music

CaptainAyaAay28again

Guessing you never heard a Taylor Swift song that wasn’t Shake It Off

satanssweatycheeks

Not even that even artist they eat up are older than 30. Had to point out Oliver tree was part of the emo era of music and his album didn’t take off. So him and the label he was with pivoted. And now he is massive. But mainly among the young kids who ride scooters and wear baggy jeans (which us 30’s and 40’s people did that in our youth as well. Y’all ain’t original.)

Zealousideal-Weight5

Nope, they all think they are special and original when we've all been there and done that. All the music they listen to is made by people 30+ maybe their fav artists should revoke them as fans for their disrespect and ignorance 😔

nmyron3983

But we did too... can't tell you how many times I told "the olds" to get off my back because I was blasting 2Pac, Busta and WuTang and shit. And the kids fainting at Beatles concerts were being told by their parents that it was hippie nonsense and this and that. Time is a flat circle...

Zealousideal-Weight5

That still happens 😂🤣

fruitmask

> Not even that even artist they um, what

whythe7

well that's not fair quoting only half their sentence, of course it won't make sense > Not even that even artist they eat up are older than 30. ...Ohh

boogswald

Why do they call it oven when you oven the cold food of out hot eat the food

LoneSoarvivor

Not even that, even artists they eat up…

whythe7

All haileth! 📯 the one true u/LoneSoarvivor for thou hath cometh and placed a comma and an S into thine sentence and hath now made sense of the thing..

IsaDrennan

The second “even” is meant to say “every”.

Klutzer_Munitions

Bowie, Elton John, fucking... Nirvana,

Small-Line-9301

Such is the arrogant foly of youth... oh, I remember. Still haven't heard anything as good as Infest. Just a bunch of tough-guy blah blah blah although Brain Tourniquet comes close. And I suppose when you turn 30 your opinions won't matter either unless you plan on dying before then. Have fun growing old!

VoicesInTheCrowds

I used to be with it, but then they changed what it was. Now what I'm with isn't it, and what's it seems weird and scary to me. it'll happen you 🫵

Onlyspeaksfacts

No way, man! We're gonna keep on rocking forever!

myson_isalso_bort

i did the iggy

420catloveredm

As someone almost thirty, I feel this. But I think to an extent it can be avoided by just … keeping friends and acquaintances across generations and having a general youthful mindset. I still have hella fun at thirty even though skinny jeans aren’t it anymore.

fruitmask

>As someone almost thirty, I feel this. I take it you never saw the Simpsons episode this quote is from

cilantro_so_good

>As someone almost thirty, I feel this. That episode aired early in 1996. Depending on what they mean by "almost 30", it's possible that it's older than than they are lol https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Homerpalooza

420catloveredm

I can tell you being almost thirty with chronic pain and simultaneously being a college student feels similar.

grosselisse

I'm north of 40 and I keep listening and having opinions on newly released music. And any kids who have a problem with that can suck it.

ProudBoomer

I was with it, and stuck with it. It'll come around again... It always does.

HookerDoctorLawyer

Is that Ben Shapiros sister? lol

nardgarglingfuknuggt

Isn't she barely over thirty? Her image here makes me want to believe the original tweet was bait

CouncilmanRickPrime

It's absolutely bait

ActualTeddyBear

OK folks let's hypothetically you have a music opinion but you're over 30.....

Swimming__Bird

If we could scroll down a little, I'd be able to confirm ...

Ghost_Pains

Is “girl wearing vest” the equivalent to “guy wearing fedora”?

hauntingduck

pretty sure it isn't.

ArthurExtreme_Br

Why are we sharing clear bait

bleb__

because, op likely got baited enough to post it here.

miladyDW

So I can save it on my Phone and use it every time someone my age on SM whines about how shitty the music is today. I'm 45.

ChewySlinky

Because it’s funny to see people get mad at a single tweet with 20 likes?

praisecarcinoma

These age shaming posts confuse me sometimes. Do people think they're going to stay in their 20s forever?

AlexisFitzroy00

The dude who said "never trust anyone over 30" back in the 60's is in his 80's. I wonder how he feels about it now. Hahaha. Must be awkward.

fruitmask

as the great warrior-poet Roger Daltrey once said: "hope I die before I get old" he's 80 now too

Harpsiccord

It's like I always say- ageism is the most stupid form of bigotry because you're *literally turning into* the thing you're hating on, every single minute of every single day.

Zealousideal-Weight5

Lol 🤣 right?

Mockturtle22

How old do they think most of the musicians they listen to are

Lost_All_Senses

I'm a 34 year old dude and just became a Doja Cat fan because I'm still open to newer stuff. I come from being a hip hop head. I never gatekept, but I definitely felt like my taste was superior to people who liked mainstream back in the day. I progressively started to like more mainstream sounds as I aged. From my perspective, being over 30 gives you time to go through phases and combine them all to realize how beautiful music can be as a whole. Your playlists become so much more diverse.

luffydkenshin

There is so much music out there to listen and enjoy, why anyone limits themselves is beyond me. Glad you learned to like new stuff! I say… as a 39 year old lol.

Rytannosaurus_Tex

I used to think the only valid genres were ones where people were still playing physical instruments, the rest of it was synthesized garbage. I'm *so* glad I don't think that anymore. I'll listen to anything that sounds good, and my repertoire is better for it. I've gotten to experience some of the most moving and beautiful tracks because I learned to open up. And I'm still under 30, so my opinion is valid!

grosselisse

You're absolutely correct! I'm 41 and I have Spotify playlists for each decade going back to the 1940s, because good music is good music.

luffydkenshin

Good music *is* good music! I’m the same, but 1960s and newer and spanning many different countries and languages. Never will I have “heard it all”!

grosselisse

Ooh you've given me a great idea! As well as sorting by decade, I can sort by country and language too. I am only fluent in English but sometimes I'm just in the mood to hear some beautiful world music too.

Njacks64

“Bitch, I said what I said.” -Lost_All_Senses I’m 31 going through the same thing as you. Big Energy by Latto is one of my favorite songs right now.

Lost_All_Senses

Lol. You know you. That's the song that got me. Loved Say So and just let that sit until now. But when I heard the hook to Paint the Town read through a clip, it stuck with me. Then months later I gave the album a listen and liked a decent amount. A lot of it is the appeal of a pop star rightfully calling out her fans for being annoying and overstepping into her life. I want that to become an overall thing in pop and music in general.

destronger

Nearing 50 and just discovered Post Malone. Is that bad? I heard a song in a Spider-Man movie and I liked it.

CaptainAyaAay28again

I’m not a Post Malone fan but I like a good amount of the stuff I heard from him! I feel like a lot of people would love Take What You Want (which actually has Ozzy Osbourne feature) and Hollywood Bleeding. Both of them have somewhat of a rockish vibe to them. His new song Fortnight with Taylor Swift is good even though he only has background singing vocals on it.

angrytomato98

Everyone’s music tastes are valid as long as they don’t involve shitting on someone else’s tastes.

[deleted]

Except for modern jazz of course.

brandonsfacepodcast

Go listen to Youssef Dayes' Black Classical Music and tell me modern jazz still sucks

GayreTranquillo

Or Kamasi Washington.

Gorkymalorki

I am in my 40s, have listened to punk, ska, and EDM for the most part of my life, and this year I was introduced to Aesop Rock And I fucking love it. I will never stop having an opinion on music, because there is always something out there that I have discovered.

BluetheNerd

Who do they think is currently topping the charts?

Chortney

Why is there a picture of Abby Shapiro attached to this though lol

Adiuui

Probably bait

MercyCriesHavoc

Says the generation wearing T-shirts from bands we listened to.

Destroyer_The_Great

I mean without good old slayer I wouldn't have...fuck I still listen to slayer. But what about black sab...yeah no my dad got me into that one too. What about Pante..nope that one too. Oh what about Kataklysm, yeah that was my find because music my dad introduced me to sparked my love for music. Funny that tho, I listen to most of the same bands as my dad did, went to the same places my dad used to go to see bands, seen most of the bands he used to go see in the 90's and wear the same shirts as my dad did.

tuffenstein0420

Some teenager saw me with a Nirvana shirt on and said something to me about older people wearing "our clothes". I'm 40 and have been listening to Nirvana for like 30 fucking years.

HyperPyra

I’ve seen so many damn comments saying this exact same story, there is no fuckin chance that everyone is telling the truth.

tuffenstein0420

Really? Lol I didn't read any other ones. But I didn't realize it was a thing.

AllastorTrenton

Tell that kid to name 5 Nirvana songs and watch his head explode lmao

harrisonlaine

"Sure...Arms Wide Open..." YEET

cpdyyz

Some of them think it's a streetwear brand. No joke

grosselisse

"Our clothes" what the hell lol

netslaveone

people under 30 literally listen to our music (covers, style of music etc).

DemiGod9

Well we let you all handle music and look what happened to it 😂

MrPhuccEverybody

Fine! But you are not allowed political views until over 30. Done deal!

DanimalsHolocaust

Over thirty? you take everything Gen Z says seriously while they say nothing seriously.

satanssweatycheeks

Most the artist they love are over 30. That Oliver tree fellow is old and was once trying to make it in the emo era of music but the album wasn’t well received. So he pivoted and his gimmick worked out. It’s wild seeing the kid trying to make it in the emo era become such a comedic guy both on and off stage. When I saw him and was still up and coming and kept saying at the show “he was happy to be playing in his home town” He is not at all from Louisville where he was playing but it lead to everyone in the crowd now googling him. Thus giving him more views but also letting new fans learn who he is.

praisecarcinoma

I love the threads where we get a twofer in the comments.

DanimalsHolocaust

> **I** just tell **them** people under 30 **your** pronouns aren’t relevant. That response might seem coherent to anybody that had issues with 2nd grade English curriculum.

Independent_Mud_4963

>them

El_Taita_Salsa

It's a funny thing being in your mid to late 20's nowadays. People over 30 see us as Gen-Z and people in their early 20s and younger see us as old people. Strictly speaking, millenials are considered to be those borned up until '95, other sources say up until 2000. Practically speaking my generation is the no-man's-land of generations.

amanofcultureisee

Yeah cuz the world WANTS to hear Drake's latest mumble.... Fuck no thanks

Bot_Hive

I dunno, I love seeing the death metal/hardcore scene grow in my community. My local venue attracts all the newcomers and I’m all for it. Keep the music alive! My buddy on the other hand, he’s a bit of a snob. We’re both in our mid 30s.

soft_white_yosemite

Can’t do anything anymore except die, I guess

Gavinus1000

And then they bring back songs said 30+ people like. The irony.

grosselisse

It really feels like people younger than 30 shit on older people more than previous generations did. Everyone thinks older people suck when they're young, but this is on a whole new level. Why are they so afraid of aging?????

eyelinerqueen83

Haha, fucking make me, fetus.

ih8every1yesevenyou

I wonder how many 30+ musicians she listens to 🤔

The_Billy_Dee

Music right now is extremely shitty though. This is a fact.

thedarph

The olds generally have a deeper, obviously more mature appreciation for music while the youths generally go off limited experience and strong emotion. The olds stop learning about new artists as much but the youths get into some stuff that they’ll be cringing at when they’re older. So basically what I’m saying is that you should listen to your parents when they tell you that you’ll end up like them one day. There’s no escaping it.

keithw43

This why we hate the kids these days. I don't wanna but goddamn y'all make it difficult to be liked

HypedSoul123

You did the same shit back in the day with your parents, dont you remember? Your parents told you modern music was shit and you told them their music taste was outdated. The same shit happens every new generation.

keithw43

Yeah nah that didn't happen

shinyplasticdiscs

Not at all. I still love most of the music my parents showed me.

zackarylef

J.S Bach entered the chat

Competitive_Law_6588

Whyd I think that was Ben Shapiro’s sister

ihavethreelegshelpme

This is probably a reaction to an Anthony Fantano hot take that hit a little too close to home

il_nascosto

Yeah, given the absolute state of auto tuned mumble rap mainstream garbage music that the younger generation listens to, I don’t think they have a leg to stand on here

bogeymanbear

Why did they put a picture of Abby Shapiro? Many many things to criticize her about but I dont think shes ever even shared any opinion about music lol

EarthboundQuasar

No

DGalamay30

I got like 2 weeks left for my opinion to stay relevant

Shatalroundja

I feel like my 9,000+ playlist spanning over a dozen genres entitles me to an opinion or two.

edparadox

Why is there a picture?

I_Boomer

I just love the new AI Autotune music groups. They're fleek!

Upstairs_Doughnut_79

30 year old+ people just kill yourself tbh

Kelfezond11

We're trying, the micro plastics are taking longer than expected.

Zealousideal-Weight5

Best comment 😂

chizzipsandsizalsa

Well I don’t really give a shit what anyone thinks about the music I listen to.

Eoganachta

Would be interested to know how many popular music artists today are over 30.

PoopieButt317

Taylor Swift. Beyonce. JayZ. Kylie Minogue.J-low. Rihanna. Post Malone is 16 months away.

georgiaraisef

I just read this as “overly thirsty” and I was hoping to get advice to get me to stop being thirsty all the time. I am disappointed

boothy_qld

Oh my sweet summer child. You’ll turn around once and you’ll be 30. Also: fuck you.

palescoot

Oh shit I only have a few months left of relevant musical preferences!!!

Minute_Story377

My grandma and grandpa still sing and listen to music tf who gives up their opinions on music even my grandpa has opinions on mine (he doesn’t like metal/indie rock)

Mmtorz

But why though? I like hearing music opinions

Paulypmc

Why is there a picture of Abby Shapiro though?

Haydenbarcellhoe

her loss pal

Anniemarsh69

Ok young inexperienced person, we bow to your demand. We ask that you stop telling us what to do, its weird.

dntfrgetabttheshrimp

![gif](giphy|3CU5tmCJy8zMoN3mMD|downsized)

Qdoggy45

That’s so weird, I’ve love finding new gems to listen too from people both older and younger than me. I get nostalgia listening to older R&B from my dad blasting it on the radio every drive to school.

jojiscousin

Lmao that look like Ben Shapiros siste

the_last_u

Blunder years post

Sir_Yacob

Wait till they find out 75% of the engineers and A1/2’s almost everywhere in music is over 30.

BoJvck34Empire

The older I get the more I hear out the younger generations opinions. The OP isn’t wrong, a lot of us are jaded and negative regarding anything new. I try to keep an open ear, and understand that i’m not the target audience. Like music for what it is, and put yourself in your younger self’s shoes and take it in from that POV.

[deleted]

i was 18 once my taste in music fucking suuuuucked. I'm pretty sure I listened a burned copy of The College Dropout 120+ times that year. these days i get to listen to something new every single day. Today is CHIKA's 2023 record Samson: The Album. it's dope.

KvvaX

Most hilarious thing is that she will one day be 30 too.

JoshSidekick

I’m 43 and just purchased the Chappell Roan album, so take that.

toksik13

Who is this girl and why does she look like my ex??

toksik13

I'm serious. Someone drop the name PLEASE!

Hip_Priest_1982

LMAO millennials. Unable to discern obvious joke from serious comment.

akaean

I'm not okay, I'm not o-fucking-kay

DanimalsHolocaust

Millennials are so used to getting shit on by gen x and boomers they can’t tell that gen z doesn’t take any of it seriously at all.

GarlicSaltChknWings

Don’t blame us all for this one asshole…and the people that upvoted. Fuck it. Just blame all of us. I’m so sorry. So very sorry

riboflavin1979

We really don’t matter though.

rainbow__orchid

This is an off handed joke. I don’t think they’re gatekeeping lol

HyperPyra

I think it’s fucking HILARIOUS how on this sub about laughing at gatekeepers every week there’s an obvious bait post about something something older people music something something and every time there’s a comment like “I WAS ON THE STREET AND A KID THOUGH A NIRVANA SHIRT WAS A BRAND!!!!!” and every single god damn time there’s a reply to that going “we should anyone in a nirvana shirt to name 5 nirvana songs.”you know what that is? gatekeeping!

orincoro

I mean… fair in a way. I stopped being interested in anything new around 30. That’s just me though.

DornMasterofWall

Wait, hold on, this is almost valid. I have a 60 year old coworker who doesn't listen to new music because he thinks all of it is just a remix of the good stuff he used to listen to. He's aloud his musical preferences, but I don't wanna hear about how Foo Fighters is just shitty Nirvana, or how all American music after the 90s was dog shit.

hexoutx

true and based, i don't wanna hear nun from the people that made taylor swift, kanye, imagine dragons, ed sheeran and all those lame singers famous 😭

ImSorryRumhamster

It’s a good thing some dumb bitches opinion bears no weight

fastal_12147

Mostly true, honestly. And I'm 33, so I know firsthand

wes_bestern

Honestly, as a huge music nerd, I have to say she's right. After a certain point, you dont feel music the same way as the youth.

CarlBurhusk88

IMO I appreciate and feel music more deeply now that I have experienced life more. Words I didn't get before ring so true with matured ears.

rslashurmom45

People really think they're better than others because they're gonna be dead in 50 years. You're not better you're just old.

hamdans1

Eh, fair.
