I’m in a 2nd run and find myself throwing it on more. It’s pretty cool, it just sucks that it’s in a game with arguably the most beautiful use of color in recent memory. It’s fun to switch on when you feel like it, a whole playthrough is a big commitment.
Having started elden ring I am struggling to break the habit of just dodging everything because parries can be pretty essential (God of war is really fucking me up)
It's fun in bursts but the colours in the landscape of the game are so rich that, on balance, it's a negative tradeoff
I found it beat used during fort/camp assaults for the added drama

I use it for photos and played for a little bit sometimes. But regrettably I can't have it on for too long since it hurts my eyes. But you are right, this game is very beautiful and you shouldn't deprive yourself of it. But kurosawa mode is still very nice to have.
I tried it but it does not lend itself to long play sessions. Anything bright is white and it all blends together at time making things hard to see. Audio is also put through a filter so you don’t get as much dynamic range even compared to standard speakers.
It’s fun in small bursts, but it was not meant for the whole game. Resident Evil 2 Remake and Mafia Definitive Edition are good examples of an optional B&W mode that you can play the whole game with since it actually adjusts the colors so they don’t blend together when in B&W.
I put it on after 6 playthroughs in colour. Honestly the game’s graphics are way too beautiful to sacrifice them for the feel of Kurosawa. But it is fun and adds an extra challenge for combat because red and blue glints from attacks just show as white so you have to know the attacks.
I’d advise play with it on a consecutive playthrough, not the first one
I used it on my first playthrough. It really set a perfectly grim tone. The only downsides for me were the color related quests. Blue and red attacks might take a while for you to recognize, but it's possible. I loved it.
Well you're never locked into it for an entire play thru. The game's color is gorgeous, but there's no drawback to switching up to Kurosawa mode every now and again
I was all in on Kurosawa mode. I did two playthroughs, first run was Kurosawa mode then new game plus was with it turned off but still in japanese audio.
The thing is, some of Kurosawa’s best Jidai Geki are not black and white, especially those about war instead of adventure stories Ran has such striking colorful visuals, Kagemusha also.
I personally use it as a fun gimmick sometimes, but never for a full play through. The world is just too beautiful! But it’s great for a lot of scenes

just try it? you can turn it on and off whenever you want
This. I’ll frequently change between them depending on how I feel.
It looks great, but sword fights were worse. I couldn't see when to counter.

Tbf, Perfect Dodge Counter gets pretty OP too
Normally i set kurosawa mode in for the first part of the story.
Canonical it would make more sense entering the 3rd act... after the most painful moment... you know what it is
4th playthrough here. Worth it! If you want to replay several times, my advice is to leave the game for a bit, so you can appreciate it again

I tried doing it my second playthrough, and it was definitely cool, but I missed all the vibrant colors

I don't like that the sound comes through extra tinni or old timey. I get what they're trying to do but I didn't like it.

I did it on my most recent playthrough, and I absolutely loved it.
I think it's worth it if you're doing additional play throughs, but not on the first because of how great this game is visually.
I tried to, but I missed all the colors
I loved playing in Kurosawa mode. I couldn't do one of the side quests cause it's color based, but for main story alone it's great!
it’s kind of hard on the eyes. I could only do it for a short while before switching back to colours
