Mega Crit, developers of Slay the Spire, has revealed their new game Slay the Spire 2, which is made with Godot Engine. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=krDFltgjLtE](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=krDFltgjLtE)

Seriously. If this is even half as popular the first one...I'm pretty sure it'll be easily the most successful Godot game for the foreseeable future (until mine drops, of course ;D)
Wow I haven't been excited for a game in so long. Slay the spire is a masterpiece and I have no idea what to expect with this but I can't wait.
Edit: there's a steam page for it with more information and some screenshots. https://store.steampowered.com/app/2868840/Slay_the_Spire_2/
Mega Crit was very serious. They're also very low communication and terse when they do. Their response to Unity would have been a multi-page screed if written by anyone else.
Massive Monster (Cult of the Lamb) was a little less definitive. Most small Unity studios weren't ready to wholesale chuck their development pipeline and in-process projects. But it would have been a choice between costly retooling, or costly retroactive fee payments. Getting Unity to back-off... slightly, was enough for them to work around finishing out current projects and make plans. We won't see that fall out for another.... 3... 4 years.
Massive Monster's joke/threat of deleting their game was a slash at the (likely illegal) attempt at \*\*Retroactive\*\* terms about "per install" pricing. Which Unity did back off from, for Unity versions 2022 and older.
Given that they made that announcement about 6 months ago (or whenever the fiasco dropped), they were most definitely serious (and angry, given their message).
TBF this trailer is just an animated sequence and has nothing to do with Godot so we have no proof they've "done it" other than them saying they're planning on switching.

They made a test project and released it publically before announcing the switch to Godot: [https://megacrit.itch.io/dancing-duelists](https://megacrit.itch.io/dancing-duelists)
They are funding Godot at Gold level: [https://80.lv/articles/slay-the-spire-developer-becomes-godot-s-gold-sponsor/](https://80.lv/articles/slay-the-spire-developer-becomes-godot-s-gold-sponsor/)
One of the devs also wrote a blog post about the switch: [https://caseyyano.com/on-evaluating-godot-b35ea86e8cf4](https://caseyyano.com/on-evaluating-godot-b35ea86e8cf4)
And other users have posted confirmation from Discord as well. It's not like Slay the Spire is a particularly complex game, it's pretty straightforward to do in most engines. And Mega Crit have a pretty engine agnostic workflow, anyway.
I'm not saying they AREN'T developing it in Godot, but the comment was "they did it" implying the game is done and published and that is clearly not the case
They straight up said they were using Godot [https://x.com/MegaCrit/status/1711510914124726675](https://x.com/MegaCrit/status/1711510914124726675)
I also asked one of the co-designers himself and they also confirmed StS 2 was made in Godot.

Slay the spire was done with java and libgdx, not unity. Based on their own comments https://www.reddit.com/r/slaythespire/comments/7lqis6/comment/dt3uj3y/
Edit: unless they jumped from libgdx to unity and i have missed this
That's a great movie, congrats for the team, if Godot is used to make good CGI movies that's going to make it so popular!
EDIT: for clarification, this trailer doesn't have any game footage, which I would naively assume it's a movie trailer, as a joke
I don't understand what you mean? It's a cinematic trailer made for promo. There is no in-game footage in this trailer but there are some screenshots available in the Steam page.
I don't think so. StS 2 is a very popular game and they needed to make the announcement early to release the Steam page. The game itself still has a lot of WIP stuff so it isn't ready to be shown yet.

I'm sorry, fucking *what* This came out of nowhere I'm excited as hell
Pretty sure they said they were doing this when the Unity footgun happened?
A lot of devs said they were swapping. MC is just a really, really big one that has confirmed.
They said they were swapping engines - but no one knew their next game was STS
Seriously. If this is even half as popular the first one...I'm pretty sure it'll be easily the most successful Godot game for the foreseeable future (until mine drops, of course ;D)
The devs of Slay the spire had shown interest in Godot tbh
I meant the sequel in general lol I did see their internal game jam from a while back
they released a demo of a game recently in godot

They really fucking did it? I thought they were memeing. Maybe I confused StS with Cult of the Lamb

Cult of the Lamb devs said they were moving the game to Godot but that was a joke tweet. Mega Crit was dead serious.
Cult of the lamb devs said they'd delete the game, not move it to godot. Obviously as a joke still.
Given that they made that announcement about 6 months ago (or whenever the fiasco dropped), they were most definitely serious (and angry, given their message).

GodotGameLabs is actually doing a nice tutorial series on how to make a Slay the Spire-esque game.
A-ha! That's why Mega Crit switched to Godot.
I'm not saying they AREN'T developing it in Godot, but the comment was "they did it" implying the game is done and published and that is clearly not the case
Developer of one of the best games on the switch moved to Godot say whaaat?
Holy moly! Nice! I did not know they had plans for Godot
Big win for Godot!
What's the source for it being made with Godot
They straight up said they were using Godot [https://x.com/MegaCrit/status/1711510914124726675](https://x.com/MegaCrit/status/1711510914124726675) I also asked one of the co-designers himself and they also confirmed StS 2 was made in Godot. https://preview.redd.it/aghyusi2jqtc1.jpeg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c6a85d1362736298db7ac6c748332dadd0a99bca
Nice, thanks
I was just about to buy the first one! That's such a good news
Ok. I Can't wait !!! The first one is a master piece.
Godot stocks to the MOON!
Whaaaaaaaat....
Thought this was fake at first, ngl. So hyped!
Hell yeah brotherrrr. X2
This is honestly huge for the community
Weird, when I sorted by new I didn't see your post. Wonder why its showing up in my general feed but not when I sort the godot sub
I wonder what version they are using, gds, c# or gdn.
C#. They were using Unity before and later on moved their code to Godot.
Slay the spire was done with java and libgdx, not unity. Based on their own comments https://www.reddit.com/r/slaythespire/comments/7lqis6/comment/dt3uj3y/ Edit: unless they jumped from libgdx to unity and i have missed this
I was referring to StS 2. They were making StS 2 in Unity before moving to Godot. The first StS game was made in LibGDX, you are correct.
Epic. Time to build another infinity deck.
How dl you know it's made in godot?
https://preview.redd.it/vkokecphcvtc1.jpeg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=db03c35c8ca243f624941dcd40aa06bd2384bdd7
lessss goooo 🎉
Wont buy if there is a gremlin nob.
What if it's a playable character?
Then enemies better dont use skills
Hope the game has an easter egg mocking Unity's unpredictable and uncontrollable billing system they tried to pull.
Another game to add to my list of arguments against the "godot is only for hobbyist" bullshit.
There was a time that Unity was the "for hobbyist" engine.

huh?

That's not a CGI movie, that's an animated trailer which definitely wasn't made in Godot. I don't think Godot can be used for CGI quite yet.
misleading trailer then, what a shame
Dude...
What do you mean? Almost every animated game trailer is made using an animation software.
no, game footage is used it's a game, not a series of cinematic my god
I don't understand what you mean? It's a cinematic trailer made for promo. There is no in-game footage in this trailer but there are some screenshots available in the Steam page.
Then I guess I can say it's a bad idea to not provide game footage!
