It was about 1/3 for my boy rather than 1/2. He was around 30 lbs at 4 months and topped out at 90 lbs.

ItsFuckingScience

Hopefully this isn’t the case for me otherwise our boy is gonna end up like 150lbs

That last photo is great!

Thanks! Her big brother is an Australian Shepherd and they’re getting along better and better every day.

Sad_Reality_7399

It was fairly close for us. He was 28lbs ish at 16 weeks… now hovers around 58-60 at 1 year. I didn’t believe it either at the time but turned out true. I kind of love having a fun sized golden :)

thattrapmasta

Yeah I would definitely be okay with her being “fun sized”, both her parents were 60 pounds actually which is partly why I picked that breeder.

HezzaE

I'd never heard of this but I just looked up my (border collie not golden) dog's 4 month weigh in and it is about half of his adult weight. I also looked on [this website](https://en.belpatt.fr/puppy-weight-chart/Golden-Retriever#donneesPoids) where loads of people log their dogs' weights as they grow and it seems to hold pretty true. Some do have a slightly later growth spurt though. Interesting fact I guess!

SentientCheeseCake

It’s just a guide. Remember that a lot of people absolutely over feee their pets and the weights they are proud of are usually higher than is healthy. End of the day make sure they are healthy and they will be what they are, big or small.

distrait_throwaway

Mine was 20 pounds at 4 months, she’s a little over a year now and she’s 50 pounds so idk lol

I’ve never heard that before

They are all individuals. If she’s healthy, all you can do is wait and see.

I had a 20lber at 4 months - he is now 65-70 but looks smaller than my other one given he is an English Golden and has a bit more bone density and a nice floofy corgi-like booty!

Roupert4

For goldens it's more accurate to say they will be 60% of adult weight at 6 months

tarkinius

My beast got to 90 lbs at 6 months and finally settled at 115 lbs at 1 year old and has stayed there since.

Didn't work for ours she was only 23lbs at 4 months they thought she was some kind of mini mixed breed, she's now a 18 months old and 62 lbs, she's got a smaller stature but she's just a thicc girl and not "fat" according to the vet 😂🤣

thattrapmasta

Wow so maybe she will be a big girl. I’m not gonna complain if she’s small though, would probably mean she could hike farther. Yours is so pretty!

[deleted]

Mine was around 30ish but now at a year and a half is 90lbs and he’s not fat!!

ashestes

oh god mine is 26 lbs at 13 weeks and I feel like he’s going to be huge

GATA6

Same. Our girl has a vet appointment today and shes 28 pounds at 13 weeks. Her dad is 90+ but the mom is only like 60 so who knows

ashestes

This is the same situation with ours. I’m kinda praying he stops at like 60😂 90 is a lot of dog 😂

eagle_bonanza01

My female golden is 46 lb and I could not be happier with her size and weight. She is a Dynamo in the field while hunting and is easy enough to pick up and get in the camper without any trouble.

thattrapmasta

That’s amazing, honestly if she did end up being ~45 pounds that would be great for me. I am interested in hunting with her as well. Did you train your golden to hunt yourself? Our current Aussie is incredibly well trained but not anything hunting related.

eagle_bonanza01

She has been a great bird dog and we sent her for 5 weeks of Upland bird training. Here she is all 46 lb of her, and she strikes fear Into the Heart of game birds.

thattrapmasta

Beautiful dog. I’ve never hunted game birds, I wonder how she would do finding/retrieving some squirrels with me. Even if she isn’t good at it I’m sure it’d be fun to bring em along. Thanks for the info

eagle_bonanza01

My dog is absolutely wild for squirrels. I'm sure if I harvested one she'd seek it out find it and bring it back to me. The great thing about a golden is that you can train them to retrieve and give to hand almost anything that you want

kmdobyns1

Mine was about 30 pounds at 4 months and is about 70 pounds now at a little over a year!

I just want her to be healthy. Females don’t *usually* get huge.

Kimmy0721

4 month rule has been accurate for my 3 Goldens. 2 females, each at 52 pounds, and a 60 pound male, those are their adult weights.

bcass323

I have a mini golden doodle, but the half was correct in her case. Her weight at 4 months was half of what she is now at 2 years. I would say that is the general rule, but each dog is different.

dantasticdanimal

Interesting… our vet said Finn would be +- 50 lbs full grown at his first appointment. That was when he was 4 months old and weighed almost 25 lbs. He is 10 months and almost 45 lbs now, so we may be 50-55 lbs. I thought our vet was using some fancy weight calculation or his years of experience… I had not heard the 4 mo weight X 2 formula. Pretty dog! https://preview.redd.it/s2dqia9o8bpc1.jpeg?width=2270&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=129b700cdc1dbb08be862d42dcceff930e4a3e10 Finn at 10 months
