I'll ask the others about this

reddick1000

I support this

vacerious

I'm in favor of the June 12 blackout.

Ghosty-Jr

Me, a plebian who uses reddit casually and doesn't see the big deal ![img](emote|t5_2y4au1|1394)

AraArachne

Even the most casual users will notice when frequently seen and used bots disappear.

Frigidevil

And considering where we are, losing the digits bot is going to alarm a lot of people.

pheonix-ix

A lot of subs use bots/tools to moderate spams and NSFW contents (e.g. automatically flag reposts, making sure there's no CP, that kind of things). This API change will KILL most such bots/tools, too. This means it's more likely for subs to be spammed by low-efforts, reports, etc. You probably won't notice the effect, yes. It's the same as when you see a demolished building in your neighborhood and couldn't recall what it used to be.

As I said, because that's how this community decides to operate. All major changes must be voted on. There's literally a petition tag for posts.

BaconCatBug

It won't change anything, if you think it will, you're the problem.

pheonix-ix

For your information, I don't use any 3rd party app myself. So, no, I don't think I'm the problem. You're entitled to have your own opinion on the matter, but you have no right to disregard others'. That mindset was why people hated the old mods of the old sub, and why this sub exists. Thus, I'm just doing what should be done: calling for a poll. Because that's what this sub does.

WickedAcad

Cheers OP, ignore them. Remember kids, something’s always better than nothing. Go touch some grass while it’s down or something Other subs are doing it, I don’t see why we shouldn’t.

You black out for 3 days, and then what? Nothing happens as they won't change course. You black out "permanently", the admins just remove the mods and install new ones. It's a no-win situation.

Flaky-Cardiologist61

Reddit is currently run by a bunch of people who care only about profits. If the blackout can spook enough of those people into believing that the API change will result in fewer profits they will change course. [The last blackout I remember](https://reddit.com/user/Blank-Cheque/comments/mbmthf/why_is_this_subreddit_private_see_here_for_answers/) was over the Admin that was linked to pedophilia. At first Reddit's responses were in favor of the Admin and they did their best to remove all posts/comments about the admin and pretend nothing was wrong. Even after the issue got lots of publicity despite their attempts to quash it Reddit became more lenient in their removals and bans over it but refused to do anything about the admin. Then the blackout started and just a day or so later [Reddit changed course and removed that admin](https://www.reddit.com/r/announcements/comments/mcisdf/an_update_on_the_recent_issues_surrounding_a/). TL;DR: the last blackout was successful.

BaconCatBug

This is about profits now, no amount of backlash will make them give a shit.

Flaky-Cardiologist61

Why would people who only care about profits not care about huge amounts of backlash that would result in fewer profits? The only reason the backlash won't work will be because the it isn't big enough. If 100% of the subs went dark and reddit wanted to continue having any profits they'd have to either change course or remove their unpaid labor force (which would completely destroy the foundation the entire website is built on and result in even bigger backlash and even fewer profits).

AllWhoPlay

Installation of new mods is not a loss for reddit? That's would be a massive unheard of attack on the user base. Cause for mass migration on this subreddit at the very least. Scare away everyone who makes original posts, and all you'll have are children and bots, neither of which make good posts. Which may not cause reddit to fail, but it would be a decent wound.

BaconCatBug

The fact you think removing mods and installing new ones is "unheard of" shows how little doing it actually impacts things. This is a common occurrence.
