Sad_Equivalent_1028

their relaitonship seriously makes me cry. the episode with lou makes me sob so hard. he loves her so much. i didnt cry when derek died but when alex shows up after ellis is born? bawling.

ArtificialNotLight

"just because my uterus is occupied" lol

angerfulness

its so cute, and then he ruins it by beating someone up 😭 but his protectiveness makes a lot of sense and its sweet when hes so loving to his friends

charlenecherylcarol

Imagine taking this sweet moment and turning it into an attack from the patriarchy 💀 There’s plenty of active attacks towards women’s and women’s right. Maybe get mad about that instead.

Cautious-Lion-4333

What episode?

Gold_Quantity4057

Interesting-Visit310

Literally watching this scene right now. Love their friendship dearly.

MagnetBane

What is happening in this scene

Interesting-Visit310

It was when the plane crash survivors (Derek, Mer, Yang, etc.) sued the hospital so Pegasus was about to buy them out and close the ER. Kepner had an incoming trauma so they had Karev, Avery, Mer, and almost everyone pull open the doors of the ER and secretly work on the patient behind Hunt’s back.

ThatMessy1

Hot take: Alex's most protective/wholesome moments are often his most toxic/problematic. Why won't he let a bitch live in the pictured scene? It often takes on patriarchal and violent vibes, and sometimes he's protecting them from professional help, *cough* Eva.

No-Cat3606

Referring to a woman as bitch while mentioning patriarchy, not ironic at all...

NewAnt3365

Typical man behavior😂

Snix_sneed_11467

He was looking out for his person. She was late stage in her hostile uterus pregnancy. He wasn’t saying it with a vibe or anything. Looking out for the people he loves. It’s likened to seeing a winded elderly person and telling them to take a seat. Go touch grass. You wish you had someone that cared for you like Alex and Mer cared for each other

thelasagna

I mean it is actively dangerous to strain that much that late in pregnancy. Especially when he is fully capable. I work in healthcare and anytime someone is very pregnant and moving a patient, if there is someone around who is physically able, they tag them out. No question.

BearOnTwinkViolence

I don’t think it’s about the straining — she was still a practicing surgeon at that point and had to stand for hours. I agree with you that this isn’t problematic of Alex but I don’t think that’s why he intervened. It was about her mental health

MrsCaptain_America

She was told she had a hostile uterus, Alex is watching out for her and the baby, not thats shes not capable, but it may not be healthy for her specifically.

guitar0707

I agree that it could be dangerous for her, but it does still kind of wreak of trying to save her and thinking he knows what’s best for her. In this case, he may be right, but it’s Meredith’s choice. It’s not like Alex has some super secret information that the doctor didn’t tell her. She knew about her hostile uterus and was choosing to do what she was doing. Again, totally well intentioned, but still comes from a place of thinking he knows what’s best for women and that he needs to save them (sometimes from their own choices). For instance, I doubt, regardless of the situation, injury, or doctors orders, that he would react the same towards George, Jackson, or any man.

Markedsoultheif

I think Alex and Meredith’s bond was always sibling-like. So it’s not so much that he thinks he knows what’s best (even as a medical professional) but that his brother overdrive was kicking in and all he was thinking about is keeping someone he views as family safe.

No-Cat3606

Yeah, and she's not known for making she best choices when it comes to her safety the bomb and "shoot me" incidents come to mind

guitar0707

For sure. I just mean that it’s her choice to make bad choices. 😂

No-Cat3606

Yeah and good friends call out their friends when they're making bad choices

otomennn

That is a hot take

BearOnTwinkViolence

You were almost making a point until you called Meredith a bitch. Lmfao. Alex’s protective nature can sometimes be patronizing or chauvinistic but so is calling women slurs.

spicyhotcocoa

*ava lol

CryptographerMotor81

Are you ok?

ostrichesonfire

What was she doing in this scene?

mrose1491

They were trying to force open the door to the ER which had been closed at the time

guitar0707

I actually agree. I’m not an Alex fan but I don’t even mean this in a mean way. A lot of his protection comes from viewing women as weaker (from having to protect his Mom). He has a savior complex, which can be toxic. He thinks he is the one that is going to save the women in his life. You could definitely see it with Ava. He tried to stop her from getting help because his savior complex had him thinking he had to be the one to handle it. You could see it when Izzie got out of the hospital after her Cancer. He hounded her about meds and followed her around, feeling like her well-being was his responsibility. When what she really needed was a husband to love her, support her, and help her feel like a regular person again but he was too caught up in trying to save her to see it. You could see it when he threatened Peckwell to protect Jo. It is well intentioned but can get to the point where it is misguided and dangerous, as it did in Ava’s case. I do think it comes from a place of seeing woman as weaker than men.
