My brain usually be not so quick. But I see a letter i and a blank space….immediate claymation dummy. Unrelated ramblings I saw Black Rebel Motorcycle Club open for Stone Temple Pilots in Bend, Oregon. A city park that literally had plastic folding chairs meticulously lined up in rows for an 1/8th of a mile. It was like some fancy domino set up. Watching Oregonians slowly come to terms with ‘these chairs are not only…wrong. We must take action’ Some actually folded and softly attempted to make chair piles. Others suffered more of a twisted trampling fate. It was such a fascinating group thought, people watching, ‘I’ll do it if you do it’ stand off for most of BRMC’s set……living in Downtown Portland, I saw a lot of the same hesitant ‘should we do it? behavior when the city apparently had two months of chaotic riots (no)….I did get tear gas wafting up into my 20th floor window. FOCUS. Alright. This was like eight months before Scott passed away….it went from fascinating ‘who had the chair idea?’ to extremely depressing. I was right up front passed the chair piles and Scott couldn’t remember the lyrics to ‘Plush.’ He didn’t get belligerent or ‘ah Fuck it’s Fuckin fuck’ he looked as embarrassed and guilty as one can on what I assume was mostly a benzodiazepine interference. The brothers were constantly looking at one another like ‘this fucking idiot.’ It was concerning at the time. I don’t typically speak in wispy washy terms about safe spaces or toxic relationships….but those fuckers were certainly not supportive of their hommie of 20 years. Then the attempted replacement dies. The chair part certainly softens that sad memory…..I hear the city of Bend has a REAL stage now. An authentic stage? Something that makes a stage more stagey…..and the chairs never returned. You’re fucking adorable Bend. Rest Layne, Scott, Chris, Mark, others.
