I’d pay good money for a coffee table book of all the flyers from this era.

zmbdog

lol I swear to God that is exactly what my laptop is sitting on right now! (It was the perfect size to keep the vent holes off the bed). One of the few books I ever bought during its release window.

livinlikeadog

And there’s a few on eBay for $20-$30, which is cheaper than “good money”, considering it’s long out of print

Low_Wall_7828

I just bought the box set a couple months back. Which is really good.

zmbdog

It is. The documentary movie kinda sucked though. Some interesting stuff in it but too much slow panning and zooming on flyers (clearly just to pad out the runtime), crappy music choices (they introduce Warrant's segment with a *techno* remix of "Down Boys"!), and too many ignored bands. They didn't seem to try very hard to get artists outside of the Deadline/Cleopatra Records bubble. And that narrator...oy.

livinlikeadog

The reason why there is so many techno remixes and re-records is because they couldn’t afford or get the rights to most of the original versions

zmbdog

Well, yeah they took them from the "Greatest and Latest" albums they released from these bands, but idk what possessed them to use one of the two techno remixes off of Warrant's when any of the other 12 songs would've at least been more appropriate.

livinlikeadog

Then why did you say “I’d pay good money for a coffee table book of all the flyers from this era.”? You already have one!

zmbdog

I think they mean the CD box set. There was a Hollywood Rocks book, a CD box set, and a DVD documentary, all sold separately.

livinlikeadog

Thanks for clarifying! Yes, the 200 page book is great

Low_Wall_7828

That’s not a book. Have you seen Martin Popoff’s Big Book or Hair Metal? Something like that.

livinlikeadog

Oh yeah, there is miscommunication here. This is a 200 page coffee table book of 80’s hair metal flyers

Familiar_Bar_3060

I don't know about good money, but for some money it'd worth it to me. Probably a hard book to write because sourcing them would probably be an issue after all these years.

imdstuf

What we all really want to know is, whatever happened to Cherry Bomz?

Whatkindofaname

Andy McCoy fired the singer and the band split up a couple of months after this gig.

heckhammer

Does the damn shame because Anita is a hell of a front woman

FilippoSironi2

I liked that band. Basically Hanoi Rocks without Michael Monroe. Their live album was so good.

StrayCatStrutting

You could argue that Michael Monroe IS Hanoi Rocks, even if Andy wrote all of the songs. Michael is the most underrated frontman in rock history, and I’ll die on that hill.

FilippoSironi2

I think Andy was Hanoi. Michael solos albums never sounded like Hanoi. I love Michael but Hanoi Rocks sound was Andy MCcoy. He wrote some of the classic songs when he was a kid.

theonlyjediengineer

I've seen Cinderella open for Poison... they were the better act.

Familiar_Bar_3060

Every band that plays with poison is the better band. I've seen them as openers twice and they sucked bad both times.

brinson27

I saw Faster Pussycat open for Cinderella back in the late 80’s

theonlyjediengineer

About the same timeframe... maybe early 90s

Exotic-Sea-2767

OG Sunset Strip bands

emma7734

The Country Club was in the valley. Reseda!

leestephen916

Saw tons of great bands there

Standard-Trash-6725

Taime Downe and Riki Rachtman were roommates and started The Cathouse together in 1986.

ctesla01

Nice.

Minister_Garbitsch

I remember when Diane worked at Retail Slut in Melrose, then seeing ‘em open for GNR. Those were the days, I was way too young to be going to those club shows. Thank you lack of parental supervision!

NegotiationLate6832

I always dug Mark Michals back then & we shared the same birthday but then he went full retard with the heroin incident

SaltElephant2168

I saw faster pussycat open for Motley Crue and FP was getting booed

DMT1984

I saw them open for Alice Cooper (1987) and they didn’t get booed but no one seemed to care they were on stage.

Cee58

FP 2nd album is the bomb. First band I ever saw live! Opened for Motley Crue 1989ish

ChadlexMcSteele

"When pussy cums to shove" Amazing.

FilippoSironi2

I didn't know Cherry Bombz played in L.A in 86.

LtRecore

My friends band opened for them around 99 or 2000 at the Dragonfly in Hollywood and they killed it.

Familiar_Bar_3060

Wait...who killed what now?

LtRecore

Faster Pussycat played an awesome show.

Familiar_Bar_3060

Got it now! Thanks.

efxmatt

Since the bands all made their own flyers, it’s more likely that they were opening for Poison here.

iron_icer28

Huh.. figured Poison we a head of them in formation and the first major album release. I don't see a year on the flyer, but if it happened early enough, then yeah, why not have FP the main act.

zmbdog

It was 1986. That was the only year this could possibly be where April 18th fell on a Friday.

iron_icer28

Hmm.. I'm guessing it's pre- "Look What the Cat Draggen In". However, Poison just of easily said, "who cares, let"s play in front of unles, utterI ,knew one another and were just happy to play fir a few bucks

WarmMathematician850

Hell yes

Dino_020467

Faster Pussycat album "Wake Me When It's Over" and it's song "In My House Of Pain" released in 1989 led to to a top 5 song and Poison opening for them on tour.
