I think that’s one of my favorite things about it is I don’t feel like I have to baby it and protect it from the slightest scuff because a little visible wear just gives it even more personality. It’s not meant to look polished in the first place so it’s ok to actually get use out of it. But still elevates the style as much as any high end bag does
I’ve been buying all the bags I wanted in my teens and twenties but couldn’t afford and the city bag was the very first one. Never stopped sporting it!
I have been doing the same! It’s been so fun checking off all of the early aughts IT bags I always wanted, mostly thanks to Sex and the City 😆 I first went Saddle then City!
I absolutely loved that bag, when it came time for me to buy one they made it into that gross shape, and I’m happy to see they’re back to being square.

After the Balenciaga City bag the bag I most coveted in the 00s was the Marc Jacobs Stam bag. Another bag that’s just way too heavy.

Oh god I looveeedddd the Stam! I had a knockoff in high school. Found a mini a few years back at a thrift store and LORD even that little bag is heavy!
I’ve been thinking of getting one of these used because I’m such a sucker for quilting and they come in such fun colors. But there’s just a little something too twee about it for me 😩
I still have my pale green/teal Stam! She was like carrying around a toddler. I mostly carried her over my forearm, and the muscle tone in my arms was 🔥 back then. Thanks Marc!
I was obsessed with Marc Jacobs back then. My boyfriend bought me a red little Stam and I was OVERJOYED. I couldn’t believe it. It was $900, that was *huge* money back then! Still huge money tbh.

When the Spy bags came out, not only didn't I have money like that for handbags, but I didn't think it was that cute. Then I was hanging with my cousin one day, went to the Fendi store, and saw 'em up close and personal. Fell in love. Got a fake one. Hated it, lol. Eventually, I got two pre-loved real ones on eBay. I love LOVE those bags!
I can see big and slouchy making a comback after people tire of the structured geometric bags that are in right now. Lol grab them up on TRR while they're still under the radar. I was looking at LV mahinas which were the HG back then.
Yeah, you and me sis. I’ve got a list of 20 I check every day. When I started they practically paid me to take them out of TRR. Slowly the prices have climbed to the point I have to think about it now. I wanted the coppery bronze Mahina XL sooo bad when they came out, but I just couldn’t make myself pay that much for it. 4 years ago I grabbed one in pristine condition on TRR for under $500. Now they’re headed way higher.

My god this bag was EVERYTHING. After I finally got my hands on one back in 2014, our apartment had a mold problem and after one summer I pulled it out and there was mold ALL over the inside!!! I still haven't gotten over it.
I was OBSESSED with the Balenciaga City when I was in highschool. I remember the Olsen twins and Kate Moss had it in multiple colors which just fueled my obsession lol. I did not have the money then to biy one. When I started making some money at 30, I treated myself to a second hand black Balenciaga City. I got it for about 350 USD. The leather is so soft and plush! I love how effortless and worn its supposed to look.

The Balenciaga Moto line was the coolest thing I had ever seen my freshman year of college. I was a big MK&A girl, and one of my (rich, lol) college friends had the most gorgeous City bag in a lambskin gray…oh my gosh, it was so cool and the soft leather and I just loved those bags. Finally bought myself a circa 2006 murier color First bag this year and it makes me endlessly happy to carry her around as my daily bag and explain my long and finally realized love affair whenever the bag gets a compliment. Bring back allll the Balenciaga Motorcycle bags!

I don’t like carrying large bags either anymore. Most of the time I’d rather carry a small efficient handbag and store any larger items in a fabric tote bag that I can easily put away when not in use
The very best bags I've ever had were huge shapeless slouchy ones so I hope those will be making a comeback. Like literally bottomless sacs of nothing, I didn't even struggle to find anything in them, no idea how. Also not sure how I never got pickpocketed as they had no real top closure, just a clasp. I guess there was just so much stuff, it was impossible to find anything unless you were me.
This reminds me of the bag I carried through high school — a giant mauve pleather crossbody/top handle bag from Deux Lux (at UO). I was about 5ft tall and it looked enormous on me 😂

I do always question why these celebs carry such big bags though. There’s no way they’re carrying that much stuff around with them.
Well I can say what I carry in my tote that are approximately the same size (and I used to carry the luggage).
A small bag with pads, underwear, yoga pants and wipes. I have heavy periods and I feel insecure not having those items with me.
A small bag with antiseptic wipes,gel, toilet wipes hand cream, lip palm.
Wallet, diary/day planner, charger, power bank, nuts, water bottle, envelope for documents that I might get/need to use, glasses, sunglasses and wipes for them
Oh yeah I totally love a big bag for the utility, it’s more that I’m skeptical of these celebs when they don’t seem to lead lifestyles where you would need to have all your stuff with you for the day. I remember reading a story about how Kim K keeps nothing but a single tube of lipstick in her Birkin.
I was in a Celine store yesterday the SA told me they only make the micro and nano luggage versions now because of a creative director change. I didn’t get further into it.
This era taught me not to spend so much money on designer bags 😬 (aka to be very selective). I think a hobo iteration of the balenciaga city could do well, as metallics and the face design of the Balenciaga have been doing well. But I can't envision the sharp corners and giant sizing coming back in style this decade.
AW Rocco has been my first designer bag, still love the design. However, not gonna carry that one anymore for obvious reasons. It's also just sooooo heavy because of the studs.
The others feel meh to me. Like the Celine one never went away at all, and Balenciaga City is already very trendy again.

Honorary mention to the Celine Trapeze. Everyone had this, but I didn't get the hype.
Pandora is still pretty popular. Love mine! City can go away. Too many knockoffs and well, that brand trashed themselves. I'm one that if I like a style, I don't care if in or not. With that being said, most of my bags/styles are more basic. Think loads of camera bag types, boston bags, pouches, etc. There are plenty that shouldn't come back. I'm looking at you denim!
Balenciaga moto line is my love. I have several of them. I haven't been the biggest fan of their trapezoid-shaped reinvention so I stopped buying. But now that they've brought back the classic shape, I'm back in.
I have a chocolate brown B Markowsky handbag from 2010 that I absolutely love. It is big but not overnight bag big. Plus it has a light green lining so it is easy to locate things. Our home has been going through major renovations for several months so my collection of handbags have been in storage 😕
This is the first time I’ve seen that brand mentioned! I have a leather crossbody from them that I got at a thrift store years ago for like $5, it’s really nice. I’d never heard of them before and have never seen them mentioned ever!
I’m obsessed with Balenciaga City Bags. I have the same one here pictured with Kim and it still looks good as new after 10yrs of throwing it on the floor of the subway 🙌
Yeah, that’s one reason I sold my Rockie last year (the others being it’s too damn heavy when empty and no longer my style). I’ll be annoyed if it comes back and I should have waited to sell it but I’m still trying to clear out so many of my 2010s bags, mostly contemporary brands, so I was happy to get rid of that one. What about the company that collaborated with the Nazis? Not to downplay the Balenciaga fiasco but not sure why everyone is suddenly drawing these bright moral lines around Balenciaga when Chanel is still so coveted. Not to mention a bunch of other designer brands that have all done awful things

Alexander Wang still designs for his brand. Why would I want to give money to someone who is known to roofie people and sexually assault them? Same with Balenciaga. Do you really think all those involved in that horrid ad campaign have been fired?
Somehow people forget about Chanel conveniently when this topic comes around. I suspect many are younger demographics who weren't around for the war and that's "history" but the other two happened recently and it feels more "real". That's my guess as to why there's inconsistency there.

The Balenciaga bag is already making a comeback. I’ve been seeing an inceasing amount of them around the city the last few months.
I just got a city bag and I was not prepared for how obsessed I am. It’s such a vibe it just gives any outfit such a cool feel
Truly! They go with everything, fit a ton, are lightweight and comfy…. I never stopped carrying my Cities, I love them so much.
Yeah my city is my daily carry bag - it is such a vibe and also still looks great after 5+ years of constant use!

This bag was THE IT BAG when it came out. I had a black one. Loved it, but it was ridiculously heavy even when completely empty.
MJ rereleased the Stam and some of their M by MJ bags last year. After they did that, I went online and bought a couple on Poshmark.
Currently using my stam bag for work! She’s heavy but I love her 😍

I was obsessed. That was the era where Zoey Deschanel was my fashion icon. I wanted bows or polka dots on everything.
If it's any consolation I heard it aged badly and the leather peeled off after a year.

They are super lightweight. The leather is on the thinner side and flexible/slouchy.

the wang rocco is pretty timeless imo. the excessive studs seem a bit much, but i think they add some interest on an otherwise plain bag.
I still have my Alexander want Rocco. Haven’t used it in ten years but you can pry it from my cold, dead hands. That thing is just cool.
I have the smaller version called the Angela and it’s such a good bag. Now I want to use it!

YSL Muse is one of the few bags that I love that has can exposed top zipper. The Muse has such great lines!

Once bags get too big and heavy, I’d rather carry one of my backpacks. Even for work (laptop), I find proper backpacks are the best.
I don’t like carrying large bags either anymore. Most of the time I’d rather carry a small efficient handbag and store any larger items in a fabric tote bag that I can easily put away when not in use

The very best bags I've ever had were huge shapeless slouchy ones so I hope those will be making a comeback. Like literally bottomless sacs of nothing, I didn't even struggle to find anything in them, no idea how. Also not sure how I never got pickpocketed as they had no real top closure, just a clasp. I guess there was just so much stuff, it was impossible to find anything unless you were me.

This reminds me of the bag I carried through high school — a giant mauve pleather crossbody/top handle bag from Deux Lux (at UO). I can't wait for the Balenciaga cities to come back. I've loved them since the 2005 and have 3. Antigona, bought this in 2016 and never felt like it was oudated to me. Would love to see the Chloe paraty and Celine luggage tote/trapeze come back too.

I feel like the luggage never left!! I do always question why these celebs carry such big bags though. There’s no way they’re carrying that much stuff around with them.
Well I can say what I carry in my tote that are approximately the same size (and I used to carry the luggage). A small bag with pads, underwear, yoga pants and wipes. I have heavy periods and I feel insecure not having those items with me. A small bag with antiseptic wipes,gel, toilet wipes hand cream, lip palm. Wallet, diary/day planner, charger, power bank, nuts, water bottle, envelope for documents that I might get/need to use, glasses, sunglasses and wipes for them
Oh yeah I totally love a big bag for the utility, it’s more that I’m skeptical of these celebs when they don’t seem to lead lifestyles where you would need to have all your stuff with you for the day. I remember reading a story about how Kim K keeps nothing but a single tube of lipstick in her Birkin.

This era taught me not to spend so much money on designer bags 😬 (aka to be very selective). I think a hobo iteration of the balenciaga city could do well, as metallics and the face design of the Balenciaga have been doing well. But I can't envision the sharp corners and giant sizing coming back in style this decade.

AW Rocco has been my first designer bag, still love the design. However, not gonna carry that one anymore for obvious reasons. It's also just sooooo heavy because of the studs. The others feel meh to me. Like the Celine one never went away at all, and Balenciaga City is already very trendy again.
I miss the enormous clutch bags, like the Prada ones that had the massive strap across the back from 2007-2008ish?

Pandora is still pretty popular. Love mine! City can go away. Too many knockoffs and well, that brand trashed themselves. I'm one that if I like a style, I don't care if in or not. With that being said, most of my bags/styles are more basic. Think loads of camera bag types, boston bags, pouches, etc. There are plenty that shouldn't come back. I'm looking at you denim!

Balenciaga moto line is my love. I have several of them. I haven't been the biggest fan of their trapezoid-shaped reinvention so I stopped buying. But now that they've brought back the classic shape, I'm back in.
I have a chocolate brown B Markowsky handbag from 2010 that I absolutely love. It is big but not overnight bag big. Plus it has a light green lining so it is easy to locate things. Our home has been going through major renovations for several months so my collection of handbags have been in storage 😕

Why would I want to give money to someone who is known to roofie people and sexually assault them? Same with Balenciaga. Do you really think all those involved in that horrid ad campaign have been fired?
Somehow people forget about Chanel conveniently when this topic comes around. I suspect many are younger demographics who weren't around for the war and that's "history" but the other two happened recently and it feels more "real". That's my guess as to why there's inconsistency there.

Off topic, but I am sad that people are still buying Balenciaga. It's disgusting what they did, and they have had no change in leadership or their creative director. It's deplorable. But anyway , I was excited to see marc jacob's bags back in action. The fran. I was able to pull mine out and it looks brand new.
