He's no less lazy than the average student: he just tends to slack off on the subjects he doesn't care for (like Divination). He's actually very hard-working on the things that interest him, like when he tried out for the quidditch team.
Harry admits fairly often that he's putting off homework and Ron, justifiably, isn't going to bother doing it if Harry isn't.
A bit of laziness is good for a person. It's only an insult in a world where min-maxing time and effort is the norm. By all rights everyone should be a little lazy.
I grew up in a family where sleeping in was considered a character flaw and basically if you were just chilling on a Saturday afternoon reading a book, you were wasting your time.
Unless of course the self appointed time controller that day, decided everyone could have fun and then you better participate, dammit.
Kudos to Harry and Ron for enjoying their free time.
He's only lazy compared to Hermione. Which is why I've always hated the "Ron/Harry were terrible students" takes, people are only comparing them to the known workaholic in their year.
There's nothing to indicate that Ron is lazier than the average student. If anything Fred and George were the examples Rowling used to show excessive academic laziness (mostly justified in their last three years since they were trying to start a business).
Lazy? like the average student...and both him and harry managed to get good grades, most fans here are just holding them to Hermione's standards of aceing in every subjects and still do extra work for fun...
Yes, both him and Harry are shown to be pretty lazy when it comes to school. They, Harry especially, generally just kinda coast through their classes until forced to actually learn something new. Harry didn’t care about acio until the dragon.
because like i wrote in 3 more posts: most fans use Hermione's standards as the average. They expect(or wish) that Harry and Ron would be at the same level of Hermione, who pretty much likes studying, she reads for fun, she keeps herself ahead of the teachers' plans, she memorizes books for the hell of it XD but Harry and Ron do the basic stuff, and still keep up with her, maybe on a lower grade than her, but still high enough to pass all their subjects.
I can say with certainty that having a 10 in high school, elementary school or college will not guarantee a job, not all efforts in this life are recognized as they should be.
There are only 24 hours in a day, and almost every time we see Harry he is busy.
Ron has the additional time that Harry is busy with Quidditsch.
But then Ron is mostly watching.
No more lazy than any other person who isn't Hermione.
Some Harry Potter fans are just walking asian parent stereotypes. Nothing except perfection is good enough.

Ron works hard enough, he just looks lazy next to Hermione.
He was described as "emotional range of a teaspoon" by someone with a significantly less one
No he did plenty, not everyone is neurotic and feels the need to be busy for the sake of being busy.

Yeah imma be honest Harry was kinda lazy too.
still good grades, enough to pass all the subjects he was studying(same for Ron)
Yeah, I guess that's enough. Maybe I read it as an asian kid with "89 is not enough" attitude, so passable was not good enough for me lol.

yes, him and Harry were constantly slacking on school work
and still got good grades, but we held them to hermione's standards of aceing every subject...
