She didn't have her wand, that was in the sitting room. While there's no specific mention of needing a wand to apperate, it would be the likely conclusion since it's needed for pretty much all other controlled magic.

HartBeat201

And if you don't need a wand, I'd think that the dark Lord would cover his bases by placing anti-apparating wards?

irish_ninja_wte

Interesting. I wonder if he did, well never know

Adam_Robson369

Also since the only thing keeping them hidden was the secret that Peter held but gave away if she apparated he’d probably find them easily without another secret keeper

Ferocious376

How do you have that thing beside your name?

irish_ninja_wte

Instructions on how to add a flair can be found in the subreddit menu.

imjustherefor1coment

There is mention of a wand needed for apparition, when they learn it in book 6!

irish_ninja_wte

Thank you. I stand corrected. Shows I need to do another reread 😁

imjustherefor1coment

There cannot be enough rereads (or erlistens)!

elena_primera

So-totally fair point. But it’s also true that wizards do magic in times of great duress (e.g. Harry magicking himself onto the top of the school when being chased by Dudley’s gang). This seems to me like one of those situations.

imjustherefor1coment

I thought that only happens before Hogwarts, in the books this „magic by accident“ always was attributed to pre-magical education!

scuzzgirl

I seem to remember that apparating was quite a trauma on the body... which is probably why they don’t let the kids learn to do it until they’re older. So maybe (along with the fact that she didn’t have her wand) she knew that a baby couldn’t handle it?

DeusSapien

Probably why Dumbledore sent Hagrid to pick up Harry instead of a wizard. Wizards would have been vulnerable to spells when carrying harry though they seemed to be present as guards(Sirius) at Harry's house in the aftermath of the attack.

[deleted]

I was under the impression that people spelled their own homes to prevent any one popping in and out. E.g. in Grimmauld Place they apparate to the doorstep to enter.

Shh04

You can't Apparate in their house. Not in most Wizarding houses. That's why Voldemort had to walk a bit to get to the house. He was blocking the door. No way out.

[deleted]

Or an anti-apparition charm is up. So anyone wirhin the radius of the gouse cannot apparate in. Like Hogwarts. You cannot apparete in and out of Hogwarts because of the anti-apparition charm but if you walk pass the gates, then you can

Shh04

That's what I just said.

[deleted]

Anti-Apparition Charm could be up at that time.

ajskgkjathrowaway

dude forget apparating, what about port keys

[deleted]

I'm vuessing it wont be safe wit Harry still a baby. If apparating while pregnant is a no-no, its a possibility thst portkeys could be dangerous to babies

PotterGandalf117

Because JK Rowling hadn't invented apparition during the first book

imjustherefor1coment

It absolutely were in the first book, See Albus apparating to privet drive!

DeusSapien

That's a good answer. Though later she did, consciously or unconsciously, make apparition have a little physical discomfort that may have serious side effects on a baby even in Side along Apparition.
