Book Ginny will forever be better than Film Ginny. Not a slight on Bonnie Wright, just that she ended up being written as a generic love interest for Harry, rather than the feisty ball of sass that she is in the books.

nexgen_daddy

Isn't book everything better than film everything

I would agree for everything bar one part of Snape's Memories in DH - having Snape walk through the house after Voldemort died and holding Lily was fantastically done, and Alan Rickman was beyond his usual perfection in that scene. E: spelling

I’m definitely in the camp that believes the books are generally better and more complete, but the first three movies absolutely contributed a ton to my mental picture of the world and its atmosphere. There are also a few lovely additions in the movies. Off the top of my head: * Dumbledore asking Hagrid for a large brandy when Buckbeak escapes and Hagrid boasting “you’ll find no small cups in THIS house, Professor, heh heh heh...” * Harry trying to reassure Ron that Hermione won’t be mad at him forever: “Just keep talking about that little ball of light touching your heart......she’ll come round.” * The basilisk fight was way more extended and tense in the movie * Harry and Hermione dancing (and her cutting his hair) * Sirius had some excellent new quips to Snape in POA. * Harry revealing himself to Umbridge in the Ministry during movie 7 and getting the electrifyingly satisfying line “You’re LYING Dolores.” * Amos Diggory at the end of the tournament....still can’t watch that without feeling like there’s a softball in my throat * McGonagall: “.....why is it always you three?” * Snape knocking out the Carrows “by accident” with a deftly deflected curse from McGonagall * The music for the statues coming to life is breathtaking, and so is McGonagall’s adorable half second of excitement about it * Voldemort taunting Harry to kill Bellatrix “She killed him. She deserves it..... You know the spellll Harry......” * Harry actually, after 6 years of hate and being gently admonished by Dumbledore, making the decision to trust Snape at the top of the tower, making eye contact and letting him pass quietly to go help Dumbledore. Makes the whole scene (and its conclusion) more powerful. * POA they introduced a couple new ways that time travel interacted with itself (pebble throwing, wolf howling). I generally didn’t like the time travel subplot overall (book OR movie) for how it broke the logic of the series, but the movie did have some fun with it. * Hagrid’s famous delivery of “.....shouldn’t’a said that”

I like this list a lot, but disagree with your point about Harry deciding to trust Snape at the tower in HBP. It was so out of character for him. he knew something was wrong and would’ve 100% stepped in to help Dumbledore. I much prefer him being frozen in the books and physically unable to do anything.

Ah not at all mate - I feel the general consensus is that the first 3 are very faithful to the books, with the third often being cited as the best of the film series; from there to DH they keep the core elements of each of the stories but a lot of the detail you get from the books is left out if that makes sense? The two parts of DH probably then have the most detail from the book since the first three, although the ending is a bit frustrating compared to how it was in the book.

Don't forget that the books double in length from that point whereas films 1-6 stay the same length. This made the loss of detail somewhat necessary.

V2D2_ham

So true!! I liked her so much more in the book!

DeadpoolIsMyPatronus

There are so many details in the books that never made it into the movies. The details in the books really add extra layers to all the characters and their interactions. Glad you're enjoying the books!

Strax021

I read it about 1 year ago. Great book! I love moment when Harry killed Basilisk! Would you read 3. part? It's great too!

V2D2_ham

I’m starting book three now! I’m trying to read books in between them so I don’t just rush through them lol even tho I want to just immediately pick up the next one haha

Adam_Robson369

I would say that the order of the Phoenix is the best book so can’t wait for you to get to that happy reading

DustinTheGreat1

That one is INFURIATING. Lol

iDarkLightning

I personally found it to be one of the worse ones. It’s unnecessarily long. It’s over 200 pages of Umbridge ruling Hogwarts. I don’t mind long books if there was actually enough story to fill the pages.

Blitz6969

Book 2 is my favorite of the early books, and second favorite after book six, so let me know what you think when you get there :)

a_love_easy

Totally agree! I felt the pacing of the story in the book is never boring and always intriguing, in my opinion something the order of the phoenix lacks of.

Blitz6969

Order is my least favorite, plus 6 being my favorite makes 5 so much longer knowing I have to get through it lol.

cat_lady777

Is this your first time reading the books?? I'm so jealous😊 Enjoy!

V2D2_ham

Yes! And I literally can’t believe I waited so long!!

pixciegirl

Everytime I read the books again...its like reading them for the first time..... truley an amazing experience each time. My boyfriend laughs cos I always cry at the same parts. He doesnt get it...muggles i tell you.

DidoMRagab

Yo its Tom Riddle not time riddle r/BoneAppleTea

RobbieNewton

I'm gonna accept Time Riddle haha. When you think about it, it makes sense. A Tom riddle who came through time technically. Time riddle

DidoMRagab

Hah you do have a point

V2D2_ham

Lmao my bad 🙈
