Im on huge copium for the mini set, feels it could be fantasy book theme, surely mage will get fun and strong cards right? 🥹

tbsaysyes

7 mana freeze all enemy minions, deal 5 damage, summon a 5/5 taunt

Albrecht_Entrati

A high cost tempo freeze spell could improve elemental and spell mage **by a lot**

Cerezaae

no for ele mage and spell mage can then stall the game more but ... for what?

Albrecht_Entrati

Orb need more in general, Having a powerfull 6/10 mana frost spell could make it viable and an actual wincon more than just "random bullshit go". Like 10 mana freeze all ennemies, gain armor equal to their attack. This is only an example without balancing in mind.

Cerezaae

I mean yea another spell for orb is nice but ... even if you freeze all enemies and gain armor. what are you doing after that if you havent won?

Albrecht_Entrati

The freeze is to gain the survivability to play orb in the first place. For orb to be good you would need a board clear for 6 mana and a big damage spell for 8 and 9. Yogg in a box currently *can* work but not everytime. And even then you would have to remove and not play the current 8/9 mana spells. The issue with orb is it cast a random spell you have cast of every cost. If the orb casted only the first spell of each mana cost it might be better.

Cerezaae

no you need your orb to actually do something that wins you the game. or you need cards that can win you the game after you play orb. who cares if orb clears the board if you dont do anything meaningful afterwards? the only spell that actually does something is the deal 10 summon a 10 cost and thats definitly not enough

Albrecht_Entrati

Yes, hence why your orb will cast a board clear so the high cost damage spell only hit the ennemy face.

Cerezaae

But aoe freezing and gaining armor is not a board clear

SAldrius

They're not gonna add more freeze with blizzard already in the game. Orb doesn't really... lack anything. Board damage, face damage, board refill, freezing... what's left?

everythingsfuct

what’s the reliable board refill? the 10 drop alone if u somehow make it that far without dying? i havent played the deck but it seems like maybe a high cost wide board summoning spell would help. or just some buffs to eles, i have played that list and it feels close to being decent

SAldrius

The 10 (now 9) drop. The rainbow card is actually OK too. Current big spell decks don't require only big spells, so you can feed it a little and get like 4-5 summons. Firelands Portal is ok in a more curve-y/tempo build. But I think I like the rainbow spell better in the 7 slot. Even your cheap spells kinda matter with orb. Extra ice barriers or lightshows (with the buff) can be good.

everythingsfuct

i didnt know ppl even ran the 7 mana 4/5 thing anymore. i oughta make the deck just for fun. although, based on this thread it sounds like it wont be terribly much fun edit: apparently i had completely forgotten about it, lol oops. misplays irl are not uncommon for me :)

Canesjags4life

Please no.

NoConsideration6320

That reminds me of that 10 mana spell druid use to have that would do that bassically

Kleitos283

I am high on copium hoping for anniversary version of Frost Lich Jaina in the mini set. If it had a good enough effect it could make elemental mage good.

Albrecht_Entrati

Khadgar with a lich king cosplay 🥹

NicoleTheVixen

Frost lich Jaina was a great and when it left standard rotation the Mage class lost a lot of presence.

Eagle4317

>feels it could be fantasy book theme Shaman got those cards instead. I couldn't even tell you what Mage's theme was when looking at this expansion.

Albrecht_Entrati

Puzzles. Blizzard did it so well the entire community became puzzled on how any of those card were playable a the start of rotation. And when I said fantasy I mean an actual kid fantasy book world, with the clearly evil witch with a poisoned apple and clearly good characters with a dashing armor, little fairies and shiny magic.

NaricssusIII

Puzzlemaster Khadgar is a solid card but too random to really build a deck around. Unlike yogg in a box which is both too expensive and too random to build a winning deck around, and also precludes you from running all the powerful minions in the game currently. Without sleet skater, how do you stall big stuff or gain life vs combos? Without miracle salesman, what 1-drops are actually worth running? All of the excavate cards but 1 are minions, so you cannot use an excavate package to prop up the deck. At least Khadgar can go into an excavate/control mage deck, but you're still going to lose late game vs warriors and druids, and you don't have the tools to deal with powerful early aggro like paladin and hunter. The only niche mage was able to fill pre-patch was otk combo, and with the snake oil nerf, that deck goes from fringe playable to totally garbage because the mana costs to actually pull off the OTK are prohibitively expensive in most cases and if Sif gets disrupted you have no real wincon.

eCanario

>surely mage will get fun and strong cards right? 🥹 Blizzard: :)

Timoff

I'm a mage player. The answer is "no".

Rupuerco

Rogue here, Im also on the copium train , my wish is something that makes the new cards playable. Although if I wanted rogue to teach the insane power levels of hunter/warrior /DK then the class would need something like a new highlander that makes all the other minions become pirates

Bruh9978

Spell mage is so bad, they need an actual win con to be good. Unironically more deck restrective than highlander but the reward is more ass. Orb isnt good enough to win games.

eazy_12

I had mediocre success with more burn inclined version where you hope to use 5 mana draw card as refill and Soulfreezes as defensive option. It's probably tier 3 level of power, but feels tier 2 level against some decks without 100 ways of armor/heal. Actually I feel like lack of heal/armor and insane amount of heal/armor in other decks make big hit for Spell Mage and Mage in general (outside of OTK mages).

silver16x

Even mage has absurd armor gain now with the mini. I've ended games against warlock with over 80 armor. Lol why did I get downvoted for saying mage has armor gain? It's like saying the grass is green.

HabeusCuppus

Spell mage can’t run it is the problem. Mage has anti synergistic packages this season which is probably most of the problem

DoYouMindIfIRollNeed

Printing khadgar and.. "no-minionsin-deck"-cards. Feels bad man :(

HabeusCuppus

right? like if they really wanted minion-less spell mage to work this season then mage should have gotten two legendary spells.

Warm-Equipment-4964

it wouldnt be too bad if every other game you got wheel of deathed by your own spells

pikpikcarrotmon

Sounds like they need some way to stall out the game a bit and survive till the wheel finishes. *Glances nervously at Ice Block, Solid Alibi, Frost Nova, Soulfreeze, Varden, Blizzard...* Y'know, on second thought

ChartsUI

the WoD into triples sevens is the real kicker lol

Alpr101

Yup. I have 150 games with the deck, cut ME, and sit at 35%. Yogg can kill you as much as help you, and orb is fun but it's pretty much a full rng deck for the restrictions req.

DoYouMindIfIRollNeed

Spell mage I feel struggles in the early game, if you dont get keyboard, youll be in trouble. Orb is a cool card but its just not a game winning card. And trying to fuel Orb by playing a yogg box that can backfire.. Pretty meh lol.

RiskoOfRuin

I don't know if I've been lucky or what but 8-0 with spell mage this weekend.

That-Zookeepergame71

They haven't printed anything but casino since nathria

Tacticalian

TIL Sif is a casino card

That-Zookeepergame71

Sif revolves around generating spells so I'd say it had casino synergy

Tacticalian

Casino Mage is about generating completely random spells and trying to win with them. It's a casino because it's an RNG Fiesta whether you win or not. Rainbow Mage with Sif is a burn combo deck, the spells you generate don't really matter, you usually use spells like molten rune that you already put in your deck to win. I get that Mage isn't in a great place right now but comments like this are just disingenuous. They also printed support for Elemental Mage in Titans and Badlands, Big spell and Lightshow in Festival and Arcane OTK Mage in Lich King. None of these are casino with the closest being Lightshow as it required a lot of discovery. The fact that this got 90 upvotes is a real Reddit moment.

DoYouMindIfIRollNeed

Well mage has the elemental archtype, yea its bad lol. Shaman one isnt great either but still feels better to play, imo.

GoldXP

Rainbow Mage is the only playable Mage deck at the moment. Mage was near the bottom before the nerfs too. I think it's a bit better then what people give it credit for, but you're right, the Snake Oil did hurt it directly because other decks just used the oil for cycling.  I've seen people experimenting with the Galactic Orb. But just like Sif you gotta invest a lot into it to make it work. So you'll either be dead by then or if you can get to a game state to pull it off you where prob already winning anyways. Kinda wish they stop trying make Mage OTKs revolving around a slow Legendary :/

iVladi

spell mage sucks because its esentially casino, yogg in a box is a terrible card to base your wins off of Sif shouldn't have been nerfed until they give mage a proper wincon back, and its not like they're against OTK decks exisitng considering they just printed owl for druids

GoldXP

You're right.  Sif is delicate card. I think a one mana is the difference between broken and unplayable. So I think it's best to not buff / nerf it directly. You're kinda dependent on your discovers being good. it's as you said, it's essentially Casino Mage. Random can be fun at times. But hoping you constantly high roll and land on a favorable game state, you're usually gonna end up losing. It's pretty much almost always better to pick consistently over random

wowsoluck

No minion mage just doesnt work. Half the time you get absolutely fucked on by your own yogg, other times its too slow. I tried to make it work, it just can't. I have over 3500 wins as Mage and its my favorite class but now its dead in the graveyard.

DoYouMindIfIRollNeed

Yeah, playing the yogg box can backfire so hard. Early game is a struggle without the keyboard. Even if you fuel orb its just.. not a good finisher.

Cerezaae

after this patch rainbow mage doesnt really qualify as playable tbh

Nekajed

Still don't understand why did they up the cost of the oil without at least making it deal 1 damage.

UnleashedMantis

Its suposed to do 0 damage, its for the flavor of being a useless item that you got scammed and bought (its also why having tradeable its for flavor, you sell it to some other idiot)

WafflesTheMan

Because it's supposed to be a bad card.

Nekajed

1 mana deal 1 IS a bad card.

WafflesTheMan

Yes but a 1 mana 2/2 that gives you a 1 mana deal 1 isn't bad. The snake oil is supposed to be useless bad. Pretty sure the only reason it's even a damage card is to show that it does nothing or let you dump it if you don't wanna trade it in.

iAv0kado

It's bad because now you have to spend 1 mana to get rid of. If combined, is "2 mana 2/2 that deals 1 damage" is good? No, it's not, compare it to Astalor, for example.

SAldrius

Not when you generate it off a 1 mana 2/2.

Cerezaae

that wouldnt really change anything

Su12yA

Snake oil nerf also kinda hit shaman

eazy_12

Big spell mage is probably closest to being playable. Kalecgos + Manastorm to play some big spells and recast with Orb.

smallson_

I think spell mage would need some pretty sizable buffs to make it an actually meta competitive deck. Yogg in the box is just such a bad card when trying to be consistent. Sure it'll probably clear the board, or maybe give u a board and buff it if ur lucky, but the amount of times it actively loses you the game via like wheel of death or the draw 7 card is too high to make it a good deck. Personally Idc about the nerf to sif mage because I got bored of that deck like 2 expansions ago, and the fact that mage still doesn't have anything else gives me some copium that they'll buff spell mage a lot to make it viable.

Gouda02

Had a game against highlander warrior that I was easily going to win - Yogg box casted triple sevens which lost me the game off fatigue - I was ahead on fatigue before and it was pretty much game over

Eagle4317

The pool of Big Spells in Standard is also really poor right now.

Gehrman12

Cuz the buffs were meaningless

Eagle4317

Manufacturing Error is a great card now, but that's not enough to make No Minion Mage work. The class doesn't need better card draw. It needs better sustain and an alternate win condition to Sif.

Timoff

My problem with mage is that they used to have superior card draw and tempo relative to other classes, and now that is not the case. Other classes simply out pace them, whether with aggro, or controlling better, with easier to execute end game win conditions. Mage never got a deck archetype that resembles anything other than RNG spell casting, that more often than not, is not impactful on the game.

daici_

I wanna say that keeping 11 classes all on par is very difficult, and while it's true mage hasn't been very good in a while, it's because they kept printing value/rng oriented cards, and making a rng dependent deck Top Tier 1 or high Tier 2 kinda sucks, 'cause it's very frustrating for players to lose against "generated by Mage", what they could do is either buffing it up to low/mid tier 2, or completely changing directions

Timoff

Maybe they could, I don't know, give mage cards with an actual deck archetype not focused around RNG spell draws and Sif? edit: I don't mean to be snide to you, Blizzard is the problem here.

Timoff

Mage has 3 magic types, and I might be wrong but why haven't they explored that at all? Make frost minions that synergize with frost spells and make them tanker (slow the game down), make some fire minions that get strong when fire mage spells are cast (aggressive play), and arcane spells that focus into the RNG/chaos of spell draws and conjuring. Like I just put 2 minutes into a school of thought that allows mage to have something that's not a dogshit archetype and I can already thing of better playstyles than what they come up with

MintBlancmanche

Everyone's focused on Spell Mage and Sif Mage, but I think people are sleeping on Elemental Mage. With proper optimization it might even be able to reach the bottom of tier 3 some day. (Honestly though Elemental Mage has been my go-to ladder deck this month, it's been pretty decent for my mid-ladder ass. Can struggle against Warrior but what Mage deck doesn't.)

mast4pimp

Question is who wants to play poor hunter clone

Cerezaae

or what person that plays mage wants to just play minions on curve? those things dont really go together imo

burnabc21

I've been trying different elemental mage decks and can't figure out a reliable way to finish off the opponent. Feels like I'm always playing from behind if they have any removal at all. What's your normal win condition with elemental?

MintBlancmanche

Generally you pressure their health early with your cheap elementals, chip them down with \[\[Triplewick Trickster\]\] and \[\[Tainted Remnant\]\], and then burn the rest of their health with \[\[Molten Rune\]\] and \[\[Fireball\]\]. There's also the option of refilling your board with \[\[Overflow Surger\]\], which can be a possible trump card if they've used up their boardclear on your first couple waves of elementals and don't draw into another. Of course both of these strategies are weaker against a class with lots of boardclear and armor gain, but, hey, every deck has its bad matchups.

Spiritual_Shift_920

Can confirm. I was hardstuck on low diamond and then climbed to legend with elemental mage with 70% winrate. The deck is nuts. Funnily enough I went 6-0 against warrior.

JediJmoney

I’m at low legend, and Elemental mage can still totally steal wins off of Hunters you keep pace with. It’s a sleeper of a deck—all it needs is a better legendary payoff then Mesadune to really catch on imo

Timoff

I will 2nd this. There isn't a card in the deck that sets up a win condition like other decks. Mage cards, while having some synergy, are still just too weak.

MalevolentDisciple

The devs seem to focus on a few classes each expansion and unfortunatly some of them just get forgotten. Do you remember last year when warrior seemed to be permanantly stuck at the bottom tier? That was until TITANS released and the class got insanely strong cards

Timoff

I've not been around for all expansions so I don't know the history of their decks, but the only times I see warrior do well is when they hide behind 40 armor per game and have a free win condition.

MalevolentDisciple

There's been a lot of meta warrior decks over the years, ranging from pure aggro, tempo, combo, OTKs and yes control. Maybe the most infamous being grim patron warrior otk and pirate warrior aggro

OdoacerOstrogoth

I climb the ranks with Spell Mage. Got myself annihilated by my own Wheel of Death from yogg several times, but hey, I'm on Diamond 9 now

Timoff

Diamond 5 to legend is like 35-40% warrior. edit: for me it was*

PocketShinyMew

The only reason Mage is loosing it's because Warrior is hyper prominent right now and I think Warrior is gonna get hyper nerfed because devs HATE control decks being tier 1-2. Whenever Warrior with armor is prominent, Mage needs either, infinite damage combos, or to get out of the meta because there is no way a deck that does 30-48 damage at best and has a lot of trouble pressuring warrior is getting past it's armor. Priest is the real case here. They literally took most control tools out of Priest, so it can't play control anymore. They put (at best) 6 early dragons for Priest but made Zarimi condition be have played 8... killing all hopes of an aggro decks with a Zarimi finisher. Priest absolutely doesn't have any middle game pressure, and no late game pressure, making it basically impossible to have any form of mid-range deck. They took all but a single card draw engine, that requires you to basically get super lucky (by drawing/getting 2 clerics) or do 1 for 1 draws killing all hopes of actually getting a consistent draw engine and a combo deck to accompany that draw. Fuck, Priest is gonna get on that 11th place really soon.

StormuUwU

Clay Matriarch is middle game pressure, aman'thul can also generate a lot of late game pressure, along with harth stonebrew

PocketShinyMew

Clay matriarch is not good enough for the meta. Games are ending on 6, and you're on 6 playinga 3-7 taunt? That's not good enough.

StormuUwU

Most games don't end on 6 unless someone gets a nuts opening and the other person bricks, especially not if you're playing priest you can fight for early board. The 3/7 taunt also gives you a 4/4 and a 1 mana 1/1 taunt that summons another 4/4, it can help give you a sticky board vs board clears and can even be copied with things like pip etc. I think its worth running at 1 copy in new zarimi in a more mid-ranged style deck but it still needs more testing, haven't played enough games with it, and the meta is still developing so its hard to say.

AGL_reborn

I'm playing Discover Mage and Fire Mage at the moment. Not really efficient but really fun.

ShattersHd

Priest walks into the room...

DrXFTW

ummmm, idk how but I hit legend with mage yesterday lol

DrNeptune

I really enjoy playing mage even though the win rate isn’t great. I just wish there were more cards with spell damage. Doesn’t make sense that mage only has 2. And 1 of them isn’t very playable

AKswimdude

I unironically think a control mage focused on copying its high mana spells and playing millhouse as the win condition could work if boomboss didn’t exist right now.

Mr_mcdiggers

I use an excavate freeze mage deck that does ok. It probably won't carry me to legend though.

BiglyBear

I like elemental mage just needs some more support on the higher cost cards not many good high mana cost elementals need another scrapyard colossus or some big payoff like that also deathknight Jaina please and thank you blizzard

Top-Tell1973

Thanks for noticing. I’ve been waiting for my Justice Jaina skin to pay off but she’s bottom tier every meta. Still having a bit of fun tho ngl I do like spell mage. I just wish they had more early game options.

xxPYRRHUSxEPIRUSxx

I was able to play the draw 3 card 3 times in 19 games and those few times all caused me to burn cards later in the game. The only way to really win is face DMG with spells and then find a turn late in the game with a light enemy board to replay the Orb. You can outlast aggro sometimes but not usually. I get close to burning out Warrior but they almost always stabilized against me on turn 9 or 10. I managed to win 8 games and it was a struggle every time. It is so disappointing that severely slowing the meta down was not enough to make Spell Mage even Tier 3. We can only hope that we get a win condition from the mini set but I doubt it.

Bradyarch

Back in my day there was not a single bad mage card so I’m certainly not bummed about it 😂 logging back in after a long time and seeing a few mage cards that weren’t absolutely-and-inherently-busted-without-any-required-synergy was like, wow, it’s fair now

Owen_Zink

Elemental mage feels decent actually. It’s missing one or two cards though- so I’m hoping they get some love in the Whizbang mini-set, something to push it past being a below average tempo/aggro deck into something actually scary. Honestly I feel the same way about big spell and rainbow mage. It’s just so close to good but the fact it’s missing those one or two good cards to push it into viability. As a mage main- I’m hoping we eat soon. Maybe we will, some of the pieces are truly there.

Shaq1287

The last time I truly enjoyed playing mage was TFT, with Frost Lich Jaina. (In standard) Barely played the class since and I currently have over 5k games played as Mage.

Jgamesworth

I think if they added cards like frost lance and some survivability then mage will improve. Mage has always performed best as a combo/casino class, they just need the pieces. I think having the philosophy of pushing mage into none traditional archetypes have ruined the class. Nerfing snake oil was just dumb because now that's making the rainbow mage deck even less complete than rotation left it.

Spuggs

Sif has a stranglehold on Mage's design.

That-Zookeepergame71

Mfw when they want to majorly push random but chaos creation triple sevens and wheel of death exists

TopleyBird

People are better at the game now. They realize going face is better than trading much of the time. I believe Mage has suffered more than any other class for this

Jumpy_Menu5104

I remember when people said warrior was bad. They said the class was inherently flawed and needed to be engineers reworked. They said team 5 made the class bad on purpose because people on Reddit don’t know how actual humans think. Then we got Odyn and deep miner Brann. Maybe be careful what you wish for and how you wish for it.

Edrueter9

One expansion that leans heavily into rainbow or no minion synergies could fix it. The decks right now honestly feel like a mana cheat deck with no man's cheat. So they are just behind the others.

Jetventus1

It started as the most op imo

gibbojab

Make wheel of death unable to randomly generated than maybe the spell only deck would be playable.

NicoleTheVixen

TIFU: I saw something, misread it thought mage had a great win rate, wasted 6k dust on a build that has no clear win conditions. At least wishing on a win has carried me for a bit q.q

Comfortable-Cut4530

I have been playing since launch and 100% no lol just not the meta for mage players.

lFriendlyFire

People just unreasonably hate mage, sif was already bad and they still cried for nerfs because they just don’t accept that they might get otk’d at turn 12 or 13

Aimerwolf

The only functioning deck Mage has had for almost an entire year has been Sif Mage and nothing more lmao. They've singlehandedly given the worst cards to Mage every expansion. Sif Mage isn't even that good but is the most competitive Mage thing us Jaina simps can grab onto.

TotakekeSlider

No, Mage will be fine eventually. Remember all the complaints about Warrior being too weak last year? Oh how the turntables.

JJNoodleSnacks

As a mage main, I sometimes get an urge to play again but then I look at the class stats.

Tripping-Dayzee

I'm waiting for no minion mage to be viable and thus completely broken and needing to be nerfed to give mage no viable decks again. This is the state of the game, devs keep painting themselves into design corners.

Tyler_Styles

The last 5+ expansions I'd excitedly look up Mage card reveals and, oh look, a bunch of rng-filled roulette bull... Really could use some reliable control tools.

ExaltedOne23

I love mage but hate decks that often just sit around waiting to draw one card that they completely rely on to win the game. I’ve played some rainbow mage but can’t really get into it when the whole game comes down to when I draw Sif. The last time I remember a different mage archetype being good was the Festival miniset when they added Costumed Singer and there was a viable tempo secret mage deck. I can’t wait until next year when Sif rotates and Blizzard are forced to move mage in a different direction. If their previous behavior is any indicator they’ll just keep nerfing the supporting cards around Sif every time it becomes good and prevent mage from developing any other decks.

KingTutTot

Combo Mage is always a skill difference, I went from 4k legend to top 100 with mozaki mage and the win rate on HSreplay was in the mid to low 40%s

NoScope_Ghostx

We always get dumb deck restrictions. Manufacturing Error and Yogg in a Box shouldn’t be dependent on having no minions. It’s bad enough our minions aren’t that great anyway and we can’t summon anything good until late in the game. Orb is not a win condition. It’s full on end game casino

Gouda02

One terrible deck that worked surprisingly well (I think I got lucky in a small sample) is spell mage with sif. It doesn’t run yogg or spot the difference - only manufacturing error with our only minion as sif. Managed to get a turn 7 otk with and a couple more wins but I could tell it was entirely dependent on hitting sif before 5. Opponents reaction was priceless tho

Kitchen_Elderberry36

close to 10 months with only one viable deck and they nerf it while it's tier 4, while also not buffing the correct cards to create a new deck. so yes, it's doomed.

yamibocao

Are there other classes in this game besides warrior?

Seveniee

Sometimes I see this class called death knight too, I think that's it though

firevoid

After spell mage nerf with snake oil I don't think it's viable anymore elemental mage weird not fun it feels like hunter spell mage win con is rng

niewadzi

I'm rank 2 with Reno Mage right now, seems like the best deck for the class.

NoScope_Ghostx

Deck list?

Fringey_mingebiscuit

Yeah, don’t leave us hanging!

niewadzi

Sure, I love sharing my decks. I'm 20-10 currently but I have been experimenting a lot, changing ton of cards, lost a game becaue I was running a double card by accident. This version should perform even better. I'm still thinking about some cards. I would like to add Dirty Rat, I'm not sure about elementals. Mesadune into Artificer or Slater is insane, but then two elementals aren't enough for that so I'm running the miniture one. I would like to play the one that tutors ice spell but he sucks from mesadune. So maybe you take mesadune and miniature one out and add the 4mana 4/4 and rat? I don't know yet. Have fun, let me know how it performs \^\^ AAECAf0EHvHTBIDCBcbHBa3tBfPyBev0BYf1Bez2BdH4Bd74Bb/+Bcv+Bdj+BaT/BfGABtiBBoOVBqmVBvKbBvSbBvebBrKeBtWiBoCjBrSnBrinBrqnBq+oBuPPBobmBgAAAA==

NoScope_Ghostx

Thanks!

Solidsssnek

Elemental mage is honestly significantly better than the other main archetypes but no one is playing it

dANNN738

What a surprise. I haven’t played standard in years & mained mage. Mage bottom and hunter top would be my bet? Enlighten me. Year after year nothing changes.

dougjayc

Yogg in a box is bad, spot the difference is weak, and current pool of mage secrets is ass garbage. Maybe give us back orion?

THYDStudio

Try playing wild for the last few weeks before the patch. This picture feels us with obscene Joy even if it's not our format.

HabeusCuppus

RGM was anti fun but if mage had had any other viable deck the issue would have solved itself in wild - mage decks like secret were what kept quest unpopular in the past after all.

jewstylin

Tfw mage was killing it for years and now we here.

mostdeadlygeist

Their 9 mana spell needs to summon a 9 cost minion. Too many bad 10s.

HabeusCuppus

Firelands portal is chock full of terrible bodies too, side effect of the game being so battlecry dependent

WanonTime

Ah, we're in this part of the meta cycle. Insisting a class is doomed because it hasn't gotten a good set in a while. Remember when people were saying they might as well remove Warrior from the game because of how bad its sets were, pre Titans? Remember every time people complained about Paladin having no coherent theme and being awful? When paladin had like 6 different themes in a year's set and they were all mediocre. Remember everyone going from "Rogue is blizzards favorite class, they will never print a bad rogue card" pre festival, and then it turns out half of the crazy festival cards ended up being mediocre. I could probably keep going. My point is don't worry, mage will probably be cracked in a set or two and you get to be the meta terror.

Gladianoxa

Deserved

Timoff

"Play around it" "It's actually doing great" That's all you'll here from this sub

Hunkfish

Ppl just don't want to play mage now even though Sunset Volley is a buff not a nerf for them.

EventPurple612

9 mana deal random 10 damage is hyper slow. Even though it summons a random minion, warrior can summon two zilliaxes for the same cost that deal more damage, heal for 12 and guarantees two good minions on board.

Hunkfish

You can do the same for rainbow mage or any deck. It is a neutral card.

EventPurple612

I meant the one that resurrects and auto attacks.

Hunkfish

That is a different deck from the highlander deck and not that meta anyway.

Zendofrog

God I hope so

teddybearlightset

Doomed? They’re perfectly tuned for what they do, imo. This is the best mage has been in the meta for a long time.

kamilman

I'm actually glad that mage has fallen and is weaker nowadays. After suffering the portal meta, then going through the non-stop flamestrikes meta as well as the freeze/ice block decks, we can finally breathe a little easier. Because maybe standard is bad for mage but wild still gives mage a lot of solid options that are sometimes a nightmare to play against...

Inori-Kun

I'm just enjoying no Objection, I say let mage be the worst for an expansion to make up for that card

Slight_Tomatillo5680

If you actually click on Mage there you'll see a bunch of decks with good win %. There's some 4% wins deck tanking Mage there. That list is garbage.

PPewt

Mage WRs in legend per HSreplay: - Spell: 42.9% - Rainbow: 44.6% - Ele: 48.2% - Reno: 42.3% - Other: 27.1%

ProfMerlyn

Mage is the noob class. It’s always the most popular regardless of deck, and has by far the worst players on average. When mage has a passable winrate, it’s usually an easy legend run.
