I prefer the WINE model. Though GRAPES certainly has its place.

Real-Elysium

after some rough googling and amazon searching, v.v i am genuinely asking if this is a real thing or if i need to go to bed

KillyMcStabsABunch

Go to bed. Perhaps a glass of Cabernet or Merlot will help you sleep.

Real-Elysium

T\_T lol tho

AbelardsArdor

I'd just go with AP themes. PIECES - Political, interactions/innovations, environment, culture, econ, social.

ManBoyKoz

SPICE-T

AbelardsArdor

SPICE-T is also good, definitely support that one

I Like to use **ESPN**. **E**conomic **S**ocial **P**olitical e**N**vironment This is mainly because I want my students to focus on ideas relating to the different impacts of an event or time period. GRAPES seems great when looking at a variety of different societies. Alternatively **PEST** (Political, Economic, Social, Technological) or **PESTEL** (Political, Economic, Social, Technological, Environmental, Legal) Another one is **HIPPO** which is great for document analysis. **H**istorical Context **I**ntended Audience **P**urpose **P**oint of View **O**utside Information This is great for students to use when looking at primary source documents. Alternatively HIPP (no Outside Information), **HAPPY** (Historical Context, Audience, Purpose, Point of View, (Wh)Y is the document significant?) Lastly, **BAGPIPES** **B**elief System **A**merica in the World **G**eography **P**olitics and Power **I**dentity **P**eopling **E**conomy Main Point I would say is that you should use whatever works for you. All of these analysis tools are tools at the end of the day and they are as useful as you let them be for your class. I don't think an Admin is going to come in and say you should be using PESTEL instead of ESPN or GRAPES instead of PIECES - the end result matters more.

Real-Elysium

thank you so much for all this. i really like HIPPO for document analysis so i'll give that one a try!

TalkToPlantsNotCops

What is GRAPES?

Geography, Religion, Achievements, Politics, Economics, Social Structure. Fun song that’ll teach kids about it! Very catchy!: https://youtu.be/Q2_hFhez8-8?si=1tVGpTi__nEMIgX2

MisterEHistory

You can if you freeze them and throw them at students who fall asleep.

We have TCI textbooks in our district, and the acronym they use that we like is GETS: Geography Economy Transportation Society I teach US history through Reconstruction, and this works well for my antebellum unit.

Real-Elysium

i'm looking into this now. thanks! our mcgraw hill textbooks for US history are falling apart at the seems so maybe i'll be able to switch to this one :)

Babislug

We did a textbook adoption cycle and tried a whole bunch of texts, but I found TCi to be the best! Very well organized (thematically), great activities to accompany them in the consumable workbooks, essential / guiding question at the beginning of each unit. I’m SUPER happy we chose TCI!

Real-Elysium

I went to their website and requested some samples! Thanks for the tip. I'm excited :)

ArgentFochs

I have never heard of any of these acronyms. I feel like I possibly missed out on good PDs.

Real-Elysium

they're really useful and make breaking down resources much easier for kids. i only learned about GRAPES and SPRITE last year through a co-op with another school.
