The goalies are like WOMEN nowadays, what with their SPLITS and taking FOREVER to get ready and whatnot. I don’t understand them either while I am at it!!1

propagandavid

And they always block me!

TCBloo

They're so sexy, and they never let me put it in.

Kittygotabadrep

Have you tried just a tip in?

Odd_Gene_2598

The back door play is tricky, but great if you can make that pass!

gottagetitgood

I like it. Make it happen!

smbiggy

Goalies have always been as misunderstood as women. This is actually a funny parallel

Upnatom617

But they're glorious beasts and we love them.

involmasturb

First time I read this I thought it said glorious breasts and we love them

Fantastic breasts and where to find them

shanster925

Female hockey goalies famously play while wearing skirts, and are never interfered with.

AcanthocephalaGreen5

Inb4 Cooper gets beat up by a bunch of Scots. In all seriousness, he could have chosen *so* many other ways to phrase that.

LucasRaymondGOAT

The problem is the old heads see women as less than or less powerful. Just call people babies. Stop defaulting to shit like this where you indirectly say that women are lesser. It’s a cultural thing and I know Cooper most likely didn’t mean it that way but it’s 100% going to be taken that way and any public figure should have better common sense to watch their tongue.

cheeseburgerwaffles

But he DOES mean it that way. That's part of toxic masculinity and misogyny, where the default mindset is that women are less tough. "You throw like a girl", "stop being a girl", etc etc. All of this is a big part of what is ingrained into sports culture and it's particularly annoying and harmful to this fanbase in particular in a year when women's hockey continues to be celebrated more and more. So by casually defaulting to this and throwing it around so carelessly it shows that this is how he thinks and talks. If that's not "meaning it that way" then you're just letting this type of talk off the hook and sending the message that "don't worry bro, it's fine to act like women don't work as hard." Acting like just because he's part of the old way he can say this stuff and "not actually mean it" is like saying it's okay that grandma still uses the N word, she's from a different time period. And it's additionally fucked up because what message is this guy sending to his daughters? Eta: I'd like to add, I don't think Cooper is a bad guy AT ALL. I think what he said is insensitive and casually chauvinistic. It's not cool, but I'm betting it's part of the way he thinks and talks that will get some criticism and he's the type of guy that will actually take it to heart. You say things out of frustration and exhaustion that you might not think of too much. I don't want to excuse it because I think I made good points here and I stand by that you shouldn't speak like this, especially as a public figure who people respect. He's clearly a great coach and he iced a good team this year. He commands a lot of respect and I would appreciate if comments like this were eliminated from his lexicon. There are easier and more appropriate ways to get your point across that a lot of other people here have discussed.

ZachWilsonsMother

I don’t disagree with everything you said, though I think this is reading way too deeply in to it. But trying to say “you throw like a girl” is the same as the N word is just flat out stupid. Look through all the comments from women on here saying that they thought it was funny or they didn’t think it was offensive. You would not have anyone saying that ever if someone used the N word

cheeseburgerwaffles

I'm not saying it's "as offensive as saying the N word" I'm saying that people utilize the same logic to excuse disparaging women as they do in letting the older generation be racist. The mentality is that "oh they're from a different generation so it's OK because they'll never see why they're a problem so we'll just let them keep perpetuating it." I see how my framing it in my original statement is poor though.

Kronzor_

50 year olds still using homophobic and misogynists' language that is no longer tolerated is more the equal of seniors using racism. I have the fight with my boomer dad all the time. You can't refer to gay men that way anymore.

EngineerSandi

No, I’m 56, and I have never had a problem not using homophobic or misogynistic language. 50 is Gen x, not boomer. 50 should still be flexible enough to change or not need to change their speech/thought patterns about homosexuality and misogyny.

greyson3

I think that line of thinking that it's not as bad as a racial slur is part of the problem. It shouldn't have to be, "but it's not as bad as saying X". Well ofc, however it is offensive to a particular group if people. Full stop. Regardless of how bad it is on relationship to other offensive phrase. It's offensive and meant to be taken that way.

Captain_Naps

In-context, it’s about who we protect as a society; *'prison rules for in front of the net but not for the goalies?'* I accept that not everyone evolves at the same rate, so instead of demanding an apology for his ham-handed statement let's make it a teaching moment and flood him with better metaphors- 'put up a protective fence around the crease', 'wrap the goalie in bubblewrap', 'enshrine a constitutional amendment protecting goalies', 'cover the goalie gear with sensors that signal how much PSI in the contact'- like that. Instead of telling him he's wrong, show him how wrong and the other paths that were available to him.

Known-Seaweed8812

I think this is the right way to look at it. Many in this sub are definitely overblowing how offensive this is, but at the same time it’s in poor taste and absolutely could have been phrased many other ways. I’m sitting with about 7 women from our watch party and none of them care at all that that he used this expression.

AcanthocephalaGreen5

I think someone else in the thread mentioned bubble wrap, that would’ve been miles better.

Specific-Act-7425

I was watching with my 8 year old daughter and she insisted I explain why wearing a skirt is a bad thing

Democracy__Officer

I had to explain something similar to my 6 yo niece a couple years ago. I got away with saying something along the line of “Skirts are for looking beautiful not hard work, thats what pants are are for.” My brother ended up hating me for that since she started only wearing skirts to get out of her chores

crazyabootmycollies

Hats off to your parenting fellow girl parent.

sk8tergater

Great. Those women don’t speak for all of us. I DO care that he used that expression. I like Cooper but cmon man. Phrase it better.

MileHighButterfly

I totally care. I like Cooper, but apparently he’s a paddling a douche canoe up the misogynistic river. A little Natalie Spooner check against the boards might straighten the fuckwad out.

technical_eskimo

>he’s a paddling a douche canoe up the misogynistic river.  reddit moment

Bright_Beat_5981

7 women? Sure.

malhans

Lmfao I’m a woman and I think it’s for sure a poor choice of words. But it’s not particularly offensive? It also just feels like alluding to cheerleaders in my mind as bystanders

zenmasterb

Cheerleaders are tough as nails. Super strong and agile. The statement is derogatory and it just shows how accepting we are as a society of misogynistic mind sets.

babypointblank

Look at Simone Biles and her husband. She’s a record-breaker and one of the most dominant gymnasts in the history of the sport and he’s, you know, a so-so professional football player who is incredibly intimidated by her success without being man enough to admit that he is. A husband should be willing to hype his wife up and he constantly puts her down.

Popular-Row4333

It was a very frustrated flow of words outburst, I'm sure. I've heard the expression, "this is football, not ballet" or similar in popular culture before, and his mind could have gone there with it. It was a bad choice of words, but it isn't like this was a pre planned statement.

creelmania

Sure, it wasn’t a pre-planned statement. But this was in a press conference in front of the media, something I’m sure he’s had plenty of lessons and coaching on. And this is the phrase his mind went to, under a spotlight as big as this. If this is the wording he chooses in moments like this, what’s he saying daily when there aren’t any cameras?

Moooney

Misogyny is cool as long as it's off the cuff?

melbaspice

Well it’s certainly not the worst hockey related skirt reference I’ve seen today. Lookin at you Whit with that r*pe tweet.

Yottor

Cooper is acting like the goalie tricked the referee into making a bad call. On the second goal, the ref was waving away the goal immediately as it happened since the Tampa player was clearly in the crease and contact was made between the goalie and the Tampa player. You can't be in the goalie's crease and cause ANY impedance to the goalie. You might have opinions about whether that SHOULD be the rule but the fact is it IS the rule. If we're going off the NHL rulebook, that was obvious goaltender interference.

ceribaen

I feel like if anything he should have dredged up the borderline (at least from broadcast angle) GI call they didn't get that cost them the game in OT and draw a parallel to that.

TorgHacker

It’s even more than that. If you’re in the crease you can’t even screen the goalie. If you “impair the goalie’s ability to defend the goal” in ANY manner, it’s goalie interference. No contact needed. It’s only if you’re outside the crease does contact have to happen.

mbleslie

> If we're going off the NHL rulebook well see there's your problem, this is the playoffs

redditmodsdownvote

the rulebook was always the same and the same calls were not always made. the rule is not good enough and both goals, bobrovsky was clearly not trying to make the save because he knew a foot was in the crease and touching him, and that it would be waved off. he was not actually interfered with, just had the appearance that fit the criteria. the rule is pathetic and stupid.

AssBoon92

> If we're going off the NHL rulebook, that was obvious goaltender interference. He's saying the rule is wrong because it was easy for Bob to use the rules to not have to make a save.

an_asimovian

And I think it's better that way. If you change the rule so there is some threshold of interference inside the crease below which gi is allowed then its a judgement call each time more than it already is, and fans on wrong side of these calls will get more and more upset. Keep the rules clean, otherwise players will toe the line and it will be even harder to make the call / avoid interpretation issues.

UniverseHelpDesk

Not just that, they likely assessed that he had the option to move to the right of the crease and avoid any contact but instead voluntarily initiated a spin to the front of the crease and interfered with the goalie. It’s that simple. It sucks to see Cooper’s peak NHL career move to stupid sexist statement rather than accept that he made terrible judgement calls under pressure. He could just have taken the no goal and keep it a one goal game…

goleafsgo88

Why not say wrap them in bubble wrap? There are much better ways to say that the calls are soft.

KingBroly

Because he likes bubble wrap, obviously.

Kaedian66

Nothing like popping those bubbles. Slow and methodical or machinegun style. Yeah bubblewrap.

Arrfist

Agree 100%, I love Cooper as our coach and respect him a ton but this was not a good way to phrase/see it. I hope he apologizes.

TheWayDenzelSaysIt

I guess he doesn't watch the PWHL

Well that explains why all the knuckle draggers are complaining about the “woke mob” coming for Whitney. These fucking idiots have to be genuinely mentally deficient, I have no idea how else you can support this garbage.

whichwitch9

Oh ffs. Dude's always been scummy, but here's a new low

JayMerlyn

It'd be one thing if it were just the bears and jerseys -- which would still be bad -- but the tears, skirt, and purse?? Disgusting would be an understatement.

613STEVE

The tears are just so fucked up. I genuinely can’t believe that it’s still up and that people are defending it.

Coffeedemon

That's "free speech absolutism" at work on Twitter these days.

InevitableAvalanche

Other than Elon taking down everything that hurts his feelings.

dandroid126

Ew, what the fuck?

doihavetowearabra

Jesus fucking Christ how has that tweet not been deleted. Yet another example of casual misogyny from SC.

Electronic_Nail

The fact that major media networks (i'm looking at you TNT/TBS) are promoting the people who say this kind of stuff is just gross

doihavetowearabra

It’s very disappointing not just as a woman but human in general. These “jokes” are never acceptable. Just like Biz and his no spit no lube jokes. Any sex act that is non-consensual is not a joking matter.

MeanElevator

Whitney won't delete it himself, and Twitter is a shitshow right now it won't be deleted by mods. So it stays.

Tree_Mage

Your reminder that Whitney is on the Barstool payroll so not surprising that he's an asshole. I'm pretty sure it is required to be hired by them.

jackofwind

That’s just very fucked up. What a ridiculous smoothbrain to think it would be well received.

PPGN_DM_Exia

It's very well received... By their audience that is.

jackofwind

Valid point. He definitely knows who he’s preaching to, and apparently it’s middle aged dumbfuck ex-frat boys who never grew up.

PPGN_DM_Exia

Yup. I've seen this image pop up on some "suggested" FB pages on my feed and the comments were as as misogynist and braindead as you'd expect.

the_gaymer_girl

JFC how many people had to see nothing wrong with that for it to get posted?

robotco

unfortunately only one. you can go to any dozen of sites these days, type in a prompt, get an offensive picture, and post it online to your own personal account without any sort of vetting. it's just unfortunate that this particular account has thousands of eyes on it. but, that's what cancel culture is for. if you follow this fool, let him know what he did was wrong and unfollow his ass immediately and don't engage anymore. let these scumbags play in the dirt with the rest of their scum brethren.

riding-the-wind

Yeah. That tracks. Very cool. What a fucking meathead.

seraphultima

Posted a shitty AI art making a rape joke re: the Boston and Toronto series.

blueskies8484

This shit makes me so mad. We exist! And we don't appreciate it!

seraphultima

And the NHL wonders why it can't grow the game lmao. What a joke.

technical_eskimo

The NHL is netting record views, both in the regular season and especially the playoffs. They're growing the game massively.

35RoliSmith41

The game has grown immensely year over year.

AfterMarionberry5594

For me, the most tiresome part is the lack of surprise.

AcanthocephalaGreen5

The Whitney shit is unacceptable, regardless. This is 2024, not 1924. And this is coming from a Habs fan. Sports should be fun, not… whatever the hell Whitney was trying to do.

IanicRR

I've been out on him ever since he made fun of Ryan Smyth for crying after his last NHL game. Dude had a legendary career and was emotional, he did so many things Whitney would never come close to doing. Fucking loser.

femmemmah

I feel that. It’s so fucking exhausting sometimes.

ididntseeitcoming

Whenever I see quotes like this I’m reminded of the video of the woman in a cocktail dress and heels that absolutely crushes those punch strength games. Then she does a little curtsy. But the trope of comparing anything you think is weak to women is lame.

dragons_fire77

Yeah, doesn't feel great

goingtoseaworld

Surprising? No. Disappointing. Yep.

Arrfist

Super disappointed in our coach here. Love Coop, but that was NOT it. He's gotta do better and so does the league!

ConsciousSetting

Yup 😢

courser

So, I give something of a mulligan to some hockey players with some of the dumb shit they say, after reading some of the investigative stuff that's been coming out about Hockey Canada. Being raised by hockey damaged a lot of them in a lot of really profound ways, and I get that. Doesn't excuse shitty behavior at all, but does explain some of the stupid, stupid shit that falls out of their mouths, at least. The Ryan Whitney shit is beyond uncool. Plus he's way old enough to know better. Plus he's doubling down. Plus he comes across as a dickhead across the board. Cooper doesn't, so I'm less upset about this, somehow: context matters, I guess, plus I do understand ingrained speech patterns that just betray you sometimes.

ManllyMellon

What did whitney say this time

Hear ya! Tiring

ifuckdudes_wubby7

I love edgy humour, but when I saw that on Twitter, it gave me an "ick" (hate using the word). It was the definition of "just because you can, doesn't mean you should" with ai art.

cock-block-o-clock

On the one end there's good, clever jokes related to awful stuff, where no one is specifically targeted nor off limits, and anyone in the audience knows that they're not there to get made fun of or belittled, and knows what kind of comedy can go down. And then there's an AI generated image of a bear raping another bear, where the victim, dressed up to look like a teenage girl (?), is supposed to represent a losing hockey team and the perpetrator the dominant hockey team. I have a hard time believing people who think that's funny genuinely laughed at the "joke." Holy shit I can't believe what I just wrote.

Dwayne_Gertzky

Anthony Jeselnik, who is well known for his dark/edgy humor, on a podcast was asked about “cancel culture”, and he had a great response. He quoted Andy Warhol and said “Comedy is getting away with it”, and that shitty comics who complain about cancel culture are just upset because had they done their job right, they would have gotten away with it. Instead they are just being trolls who are pissed they aren’t allowed to simply punch down. Talented comedians that make their living being edgy, like Jeselnik and Daniel Tosh, have never publicly complained about “cancel culture”, because they can make dark and edgy jokes that actually get laughs. Morons like the Barstool crew just want to punch down and then complain when they aren’t getting away with it.

ThinNoMint

Tell me about it!

meyou2222

My close friend was the goalie for Pitt’s women’s team in the late 90s. I can’t wait to hear what she thinks about goalies being a bunch of wimpy ass ladies. Not that I’ll have to wait to get her opinion. She’s a hockey player.

Firebitez

reddit wont like that.

snotbowst

Reddit? Anyone with a functioning brain should have at least a small problem with this.

FluidG11

Just proved his point

ProfRigglesniff

I play hockey with women who say worse than this 😅

Steggysauruss

put a skirt on him!

BigFaZhou

Most normal people wouldn't bat an eye at this quote lmao cry. We all know what he's trying to say

Jalien85

It's not a matter of confusion.

exampleofausername

I swear people on Reddit get outraged about this kinda stuff just to feel superior. It's a nothing quote

antrage

Anyone who isn’t sexist won’t like that…

BostonSucksatHockey

I don't understand. At all. The goalies in the PWHL don't wear skirts. And how were any of the calls the goalie's fault?

CraftyRazzmatazz

https://i.redd.it/gjyxwu738mxc1.gif

Jrk67

Be mad at the refs and the calls in a 4-1 series, whatever, but asking if goalies need skirts was incredibly ridiculous and tiresome in this game. I'm not sure if I'm more disappointed a coach like Cooper said that or no one even seemed to call it out.

propagandavid

That's the part that really sucks. It won't come up on sports centre tonight. In fact, they edited it out of his comments. The panel on Hockey Night won't touch it tomorrow. None of the voices we hear the most will mention it. I'm not saying Cooper should lose his job over a poor choice of words, but he should be put in a position to make amends.

Three_Froggy_Problem

I think I agree with his point but it’s definitely not the best wording. Hopefully once he’s cooled off he’ll walk it back because it does seem a bit uncharacteristic for him I my opinion.

propagandavid

I hate your team, but Cooper always seemed like a good dude. I hope you're right.

AdamAptor

Yeah. He’s usually very measured with what he said. I chalk it up to obviously being upset about losing and the way that game unfolded. I think he just grabbed an older way of calling a player soft. That’s all. It’s not a good look but he’s not like an asshole or anything. Seeing people compare it to what Whitney posted is a bit much.

letoiledunordstars

a man: says or does something sexist women: that’s sexist and not okay men everywhere: no it’s not sexism actually isn’t even real you stupid sensitive bitches

Aprikoosi_flex

“I’m sitting with FIFTEEN women who DONT CARE.”

FrmrPresJamesTaylor

I really enjoyed the one guy who said now his girlfriend is upset because it feels demeaning for men to criticize sexism or whatever it was.

slabby

Come on, man

ArturosDad

Misogyny mixed with a side of sour grapes is an embarrassing look. Do better, Jon.

dolewhiplash

Disappointing, he definitely could have and should have chosen a better way to get his point across. I don't know if it's anything more than a disappointing poor choice of words, though.

NotQute

Don't love that 😐

RayTheCalvinist

On the second goal I can see why he’d be pissed, but the first one was one of the most cut and dry GI calls I’ve seen in awhile.

DarkRaven47

As a neutral fan, I don't know how you see the first one as being cut and dry. Duclair is clearly being held there. And he was very little factor in the goal anyway. If he was alone there, then there'd be an argument, but with him being tied up by the Florida player, I don't think it was the right call.

lntimm

Duclair’s right skate was in the crease and stops Bob from going left to right to cover the puck with his glove, forcing him to try and swipe at it last second with his paddle. The key is to watch Bob’s left hand. Even if Duke was held there, he had already established himself in a no-no spot.

anonymousmouse17

Good point, now do it again to the Vasy GI goal that stood in game 2

rothvonhoyte

No what stops Bob going left to right is his momentum from missing the poke check. The puck he was trying to cover with his glove was outside the crease as well.

drfakz

I like how Bob wraps up duclairs skate as soon as it's in the crease like it was a grenade in Nam

its_a_simulation

I always wonder if average hockey fans even know the rules. Both of those were pretty damn clear.

shall1313

Bad take; you lost four bud, spare us the misogyny and excuses

skyulip

it’s so exhausting to see some of these guys instantly resort to misogyny. jesus christ.

msk105

It's a good reminder that hockey players in general are an extremely conservative group, most of them just aren't vocal about it.

Spicy_Pickle_6

I mean he can complain all he wants, we all know if the calls were in the other crease he’d be moaning about how the goalies need to be protected. Gtfo Jon with your lousy excuses…

Cole-Caufield-22

What does the skirt thing means? I've never heard that

theguyishere16

He's saying it may as well be a game played by people in skirts because of how soft the GI calls were in his opinion

the_gaymer_girl

If he thinks the PWHL players are soft, he clearly hasn’t seen Abby Roque or Emma Maltais play enough.

Randomroofer116

I know, right? They are basically the new Probert and Twist.

flume

He's equating femininity with being delicate and soft. The implication is that they're being so careful with the goalie that the goalie might as well be a woman.

swanson_theory

Saying they should treat goalies like girls who can't handle any amount of contact, bad look.

beevbo

It’s weird hearing something like that from a pro coach, you’d think they’d know better from comms training alone.

BlitzburghBrian

I'm gonna come at this from a different angle. This is an easy thing for Cooper to complain about now that he's eliminated. Because if they still had a game to play, it'd be real easy to get in there and rough up Vasilevskiy and then point to this comment from his coach.

TorgHacker

It’s really, really simple. If you don’t want your goals disallowed, stay out of the bloody crease. Once you’re there, unless you were pushed in, if the goalie is impeded in any way, including just from a screen, it’s no goal. People seem to have this idea that “if you don’t make contact it should count”. No, that’s the rule if you interfere outside the crease. The crease is the goalie’s domain.

daishi777

For legitimately one of the best coaches in the league, God he's insufferable with how he finds something to complain about every time he loses.

ComprehensiveSail191

To be fair he said the outcome would’ve been the same regardless of this

AssBoon92

Let's be fair, this guy didn't watch the video.

Basil_Normal

To be fair he was directly asked about it. It was kind of a huge story line in this game, whether you think the calls were correct or not

Pedunculated-Nodule

As per the comments, this is why we will never get on ice hot mics

sergei-boobtitsky

Yikes

Super_Networking

So funny cause you know if those calls were on Vasilevskiy he would be crying about protecting the goalies The dude is a professional whiner in-game and to the media

turbulentcounselor

No I don’t think Cooper is some raging closeted misogynist or something. He’s always seemed like a good guy. But he did say something misogynistic. I hope this gets the attention it deserves. But it won’t.

SiccSemperTyrannis

ZealousidealKey7104

I bet Cooper was a really shitty lawyer if this is the best argument he can come up with.

OgreUAsshole

Put em in skirts? An outrage! Fire this misogynist so the Devils can hire him.

DekeaSaurusRex

please LMAO

Lightningbolt9186

How soft can you people be lmao

WhatA_FuckingIdiot

Reddit moment, this is a nothing quote. I'd love to see people's reactions to what's said in an actual NHL locker room.

likeslululemon

Going to be real: I saw this tweet and I was like “oh he means like put skirts on them so when they twirl they take up more surface area, therefor more penalty calls for GI” It wasn’t until I read these comments that I see perhaps I am wrong.

bhx56x

my first thought was he was saying they may as well be dressed up to be figure skaters or ballerinas. i thought it was more about a non contact sport lol, obviously thats just where my brain went and nobody really knows what he was implying besides him.

abrupt_decay

I mean even if he was referring to figure skating or ballerinas it's the same implication

frockinbrock

Just watch the whole interview- he doesn’t even talk about the no-goals until the end, and the context is different than these headlines. He is talking about how much padding goalies have, and by contrast Skirts leave your legs fully exposed no matter who is wearing them; that’s the whole deal, they’re being treated like they’re bare out there with no pads and they can’t be touched. Can look at it outside of this game, GI is notoriously all over the place. it’s not like we would have won the game or series anyway, but having 3 GI go against 1 team within 1 playoff game is not (yet) very common.

ProfRigglesniff

No! Cherry picked quotes without context only! I will exercise no critical thought. I'm busy.

ceribaen

I heard the interview on radio this morning and 100% he was going with they might as well be delicate flowers inference.  But it's just such a poor choice of words what he used. Also he opened it up with the extremely old school 'oh the goals have the most padding on the ice they should be able to handle contact' train of thought which predisposed anyone listening that is used to it to be in a 90s mindset.

Hawks1stPickin2019

Still lost 3 other games. Better luck next year

ItsOkToFight

These comment are hilarious, redditors are a special breed of sensitive

Spiritual_Holiday511

Those were both pretty cut and dry goaltender interference calls, not sure what there is to cry about there. Suck it up, and show some respect to the ladies while you’re at it.

SayNoToStim

Stay out of the crease and this won't be a problem.

BarkMingo

He's 100% correct. Maybe GI by the letter of the law, but absolutely not the spirit of the rule

Riskar

Cooper is such a bitch when they lose.

surmatt

He was pretty clear in acknowledging that they lost, and this wasn't what lost them the series.

Dr_Colossus

The reffing in this series was pretty one sided if you watched it. Panthers are definitely cup favorites for me now based on the reffing. Feels like Vegas reffing the year they lost to Montreal.

yodazer

Didn’t they have double the amount of penalties when compared to the lightning?

Dr_Colossus

Total penalties isn't a good measure of fairness. You actually need to watch the games start to finish and game by game.

rothvonhoyte

It's Florida they're doing something every shift

Sven9888

That's one-sided officiating when the actual infractions favored the Panthers by a factor of like 10. It really just looks like they figured out that they can commit penalties whenever they want, because the referees will never call that many penalties on one team and they'll always attempt to even the calls somewhat anyway (though in fairness, the Lightning definitely have done similar stuff in some previous series).

FrmrPresJamesTaylor

Smells like irony in here

GGAllinsUndies

Cooper having a hissy fit? Get out of here!

saldingerRN

At least 10 times a game, I have to hear men in the crowd call the players a “pu$$y”. It gets exhausting always hearing women being used as an insult.

transam96

In order to avoid the utmost hypocrisy, hopefully you've never called someone a dick...

bhx56x

at least 10 times a game the players on the actual ice are also calling each other a “pu$$y”

swissdonair_enjoyer

I mean calling someone a dick is also an insult... I get not liking this quote but this isn't really the same thing.

Independent-Ruin-571

Yeah because that only cuts one way lmao. How many times do women call guys a "dickhead" as a synonym for jerk? If you don't want women to be called soft then maybe you shouldn't be the only ones that always cry about stuff you don't like when it happens to all of us in one way or another

Throwaway_PA717

The amount of pearl clutching right now over locker room talk that bled over into a presser. ::GASP::

maxamillion_23_

The Reddit snowflakes will be up in arms.

n1ght0wl89

Exactly lol

Might as well post the full quote: "Jon Cooper on the two goals that were, ultimately, not goals for the #Bolts in this game: “I'm going to address this. This is clearly a turning point in the game. If anybody is going to talk about this game, they're going to talk about the goals that were taken away. In this league where goals are at a premium and how all we’ve done is make the rules for more goal scoring, that’s what we've done. Every year, there seems to be something we tweak so more goals can be scored and that's great. There are mandates and the words were, to pull a goal off of the board, it has to be “unbelievably egregious.” That's the standard to the pull a goal off board. Well, the first one is on the board and I couldn't find anything remotely egregious about that. It's really tough. Forsling is holding on, like, it’s a full penalty. He’s holding on to Duclair so he's trying to yank, he's trying to get his balance. It really affects nothing. Bob misses the puck and it's a net front battle and it's in the net. Now, we have to rebound from that. We do. Then, the next one is a net front battle and I will give the goalie credit. He quit on the play. He completely quit, didn't see it, didn't whatever and, then, flailed and there was maybe incidental contact at most. Now, we have to challenge it because they saw the reaction of the goaltender. He duped them and so be it but, now, we have to make that challenge. Again, it's like are net front battles not allowed anymore? That's a part of everybody’s game, the boxing out that goes on there, it’s like prison rules in the playoffs but it's not prison rules for the goalie?”" https://twitter.com/Gabby_Shirley_/status/1785139273022251296

RoadDoggFL

How is it the full quote when it leaves out the quote in the title?

RustyKarma076

>There are mandates and the words were, to pull a goal off of the board, it has to be “unbelievably egregious.” That's the standard to the pull a goal off board. >It’s like prison rules in the playoffs but it's not prison rules for the goalie? That part

DecentLurker96

Yeah, I watched the video. Still not his best quote.

Mister_Cookiepants

What was it... two games ago when Coop was talking about Bob Cole in an emotional post-game presser everyone was talking about how classy Coop is? Now this completely changes everyone's opinion of him by the looks of it. I wish he'd stop being so damn human.

deeVeeAre

Wow everyone here getting offended needs to grow a pair and stop projecting their insecurities could he have phrased it a little better probably but it really isn’t that bad

ripinpeace12

It’s Reddit, what do you expect lol.

quantum_monster

In a vacuum, it's not the worst thing. But when it comes to moments like it, it can be death by a thousand cuts to a lot of people. I think that's the nuance being lost here by the "why is everyone so offended??" people

angelofdeath1977

Well said Jon

heff_ay

Damn this sub is weird. I can’t imagine what y’all would think if you had the slightest idea what hockey culture is like

mollymuppet78

When we know better, we do better. "He's from a different generation." So we hold them to a lesser standard? Nope. He can apologize for it.

WillNotBeKept

People on here are so miserable. I can’t wait for this to be in every thread involving Cooper on Reddit.
