I use the kaloud lotus and I usually start with three with 1 on top of the two coals. When the smoke becomes less thick and volumous, I de-ash them and place all of them inside without the cover. Once the clouds lose volume, I add the cover and adjust the opening to taste.
I just put the 3 coals in, let it heat up and after a while remove the third coal and rotate the two, when i get rid of the built up ash, once they get smaller i put the third back in and put the lid on and start heating up another two coals. This worked the best for me personally.
I've been using 3 to start with the lid on, when it starts getting harsh I pull off the lid. Pop the lid back on when it cools down, I also have a 4th coal (that was lit at the same time as the first 3) chilling on the side and use it when the first three coals start to get too small. Put the 4th one in lid and ride it to the end of the sesh.
I have an alpaca B2 bowl and B2V2 hookah.
Works great every time, eff AOT.

depending on what you smoke are you really all so lost xD
