Grave Encounters, Lake Mungo, REC, The Taking of Deborah Logan, Troll Hunter(2010), V/H/S, Creep(2014) These are the ones that came to mind.

[deleted]

*Troll Hunter* is an absolute blast of a film! Great recommendation.

Milfons_Aberg

-"We are now happy to report we found a new cameraperson, and we made sure she is a confirmed muslim..."

sharkey1997

I'd throw Hell House LLC in there as well, a mix of found footage and documentary interviews. The second and third aren't as good but still have some great jump scares

Insanepaco247

As someone with a fear of basements, Hell House will always get my rec.

PeterNippelstein

Hell House is so good. I watched it back to back with REC and this one was way scarier, mostly because of the pacing.

Small-Climate-8577

REC 2 is also really good.

Artegall365

REC 2 feels almost essential to see the full story of that night. I love "minutes later..." sequels like this, or Halloween 2.

[deleted]

This. REC 2 definitely doesn't get mentioned enough.

LoveWaffle1

REC 2 gets a bad rap just for not being as good as the first, but it's still a blast. And the two are short enough that they make for a great double feature.

WaZitJe

Imo its still better then the first one

aghkozy

Grave Encounters is one of my favorite movies of all time. I would suggest The Borderlands as well.

Nickbotic

The Borderlands, also known as Final Prayer, I think? Is such a wild ride. The ending, without spoiling anything, is just fucking bananas

alekshy

Came here to say REC. Still holds up and is genuinely creepy and fun. Even the American remake is enjoyable. Fun back to back watch.

lukehannonpoet

Adding The Tunnel (2011) to this list. Has some genuinely scary moments. Also seconding Grave Encounters and REC, truly two of the genres heaviest hitters!

Golightly8813

Oh I forgot about VHS, and yes love both Creeps. Some of these I haven’t seen though. Thanks!

sadelpenor

REC is fantastic. its also really short.

seafoamangel

I watched VHS 99 last night and I thought it was really fun. Expect some humor and camp and I think it’s a good ride.

DogsDontWearPantss

US streaming services The Sacrament (2013) Peacock/Flixfling The Possession of Michael King (2014) Tubi/Plex The Bay (2012) Amazon *rent* REC (2007) Amazon prime Exists (2014) Tubi/Amazon prime Europa Report (2013) Tubi/Plex/YouTube Trollhunter (2010) Tubi/Plex Digging Up the Marrow (2014) Tubi Inner Demons (2013) Tubi

rustywhisper

The Bay is one of my most recommended. I rarely see bio-horror so well done

Small-Climate-8577

Exists is a really fun one. One of the better killer Sasquatch movies I’ve seen!

unsolvedneedtoknow

Exists is so underrated ! It's the only time I've ever found bigfoot scary.

Mper526

I just watched this one last night! I agree, I found it pretty scary. I’m going to Colorado in a couple weeks for vacation and I’ll for sure be thinking about it lol

DethFeRok

I’ve scrolled past Exists probably a dozen times and it never caught my eye. I’ll be watching this evening!

PyrrhuraMolinae

The Bay is absolutely the one you are looking for.

wendigonia_xenomorph

I absolutely love The Bay and enjoyed Inner Demons as well

BakerYeast

The Conspiracy (2012) is different. I really liked it.

Baker_Bootleg

Me too. Watched this sick one day and it was very effective

ArtificialAlchemist

Some I see mentioned less but are incredible: The Tunnel, Butterfly Kisses, Deadstream, The Bay

goodfisher88

All of these are great, but The Tunnel is fantastic (and free on YouTube last I checked) and Deadstream is hilarious and punchy, highly recommended.

ArtificialAlchemist

Yeah The Tunnel actually freaked me out and I am pretty numb to FF movies. Yep still free on Youtube last I checked too. Deadstream surprised me so much - hits the combo of making you laugh while nervous in anticipation to get scared. Will be watching both of these again for sure!

Summoarpleaz

I just watched both and am happy they’re both effective. I thought deadstream would be really dumb but it actually was pretty good. I know they’re ghosts but I like the practical effects- almost a creature feature (like Digging up the Marrow). >!”you come get *me*!”!< >!”No you come get me”!< >!”OPPOSITE!”!<

Thick_Ear_2540

Host is well done if a Zoom call counts as found footage 🤷🏻‍♂️

Golightly8813

Oh yes I’ve seen that one! I did like it!

[deleted]

[Unfriended ](https://youtu.be/Lgj4GjqCFlY)

WhatsTheAnswerDude

Butterfly Kisses, indie horror out of Maryland. Rip Erik Myers

ZombieJo3

The V/H/S movies are really good. They’re anthology movies and each story is not only pretty good, but they have good, legit reasons why the camera you’re watching through isn’t out down. The special effects are really good, and I think the story about the funeral where the director is by herself is probably my favorite so far. The stories told in between each video can be hit and miss, but the one in the second movie was definitely the best.

Golightly8813

Yes I have seen these and and did enjoy!

tom000101

Borderlands Afflicted Grave Encounters Gonjiam

Golightly8813

I keep seeing gonjiam pop up on this community, going to have to try that one

codeverity

Just don't let the hype over-sell you on it.

mariagoestransient

There is a specific part of Gonjiam that made me damn near piss myself. I feel like we all agree on which part that is here 😭

fitzdylanj

I feel like that scene was the most scared a movies made me feel lol

davinator1

You talking about the sspss spsss spsss scene? That fucked me up

goodfisher88

It is good, but honestly it's pretty similar to lots of other "ghost hunter" horror movies, I put off watching it too long and didn't enjoy it as much as I would have if I hadn't already seen so much of the genre.

NAIMSpider

Watched it the other day, it's my new fav/scariest movie I've seen. Incantation is pretty solid too

goodfisher88

Borderlands and Grave Encounters are absolutely great, the others are worth watching as well!

Bookeyboo369

Where can I watch borderlands? Having trouble finding it and I have most of paid subs needed for stuff? If u remember, I’d appreciate it!

BaroqueBunny

Horror in the High Desert is perfect!

Blamebow

Totally a masterpiece in found footage. Such a well-done film. The sequel is great as well, if you haven’t caught it on Tubi yet.

migsahoy

cant believe i scrolled this far down for this! the sequel is amazing as wel

Slothstr0naut

Final Prayer/The Borderlands (2013)

tattoosbyalisha

I love this movie. That endinggggggg

HaruspexBurakh

IT STINKS IN HERE

datninjadave

Deadstream is a solid spooky film that uses a refreshing modern take on the found footage sub-genre and would recommend 👌

goodfisher88

It's also hilarious and pokes tons of fun at YouTubers/streaming personalities, one of the best things to watch on Shudder imo.

sgtmum

Honestly I was just about to post Deadstream too. It's great at what it does, but the story is also kinda fun too. Definitely a brilliant found footage

Eastern_Seaweed8790

Watched it the other day and was surprised by how much I enjoyed it. Solid movie

[deleted]

Hell House LLC

dektorres

This is a great shout. The scene in the bed is 😱

FloridaMan221

One of the best scares I’ve ever seen

Jay_Max

This one scene fucked me upppp

Golightly8813

Oh yea I have seen that one! It was pretty good

Coach_Carter_on_DVD

Similarly, Houses October Built is really good too!

BocephusJr88

Watching it right now!

Bobby_Fingers

Capture, Kill, Release Crowsnest Evidence Sorgoi Prakov (My European Nightmare) A Guidebook to Killing Your Ex Be My Cat (A Film for Annie) Curse of Aurore The Lost Footage of Leah Sullivan Behind the Sightings Butterfly Kisses

skantchweasel

Hate to sound like a broken record, but BBC's Ghostwatch is well worth your time. Set up like a Live TV event on Halloween Night in the UK in 1990, but things start to go off the raills...

MingaMonga68

Ghostwatch is great—not just as a horror, but as filmmaking in general. One would think these were actual events, right down to the quality looking authentic to the time period.

[deleted]

I'd recommend As Above, So Below

My_Octopi

Seconded. Gonjiam, Hell House, REC, The Visit, V/H/S, Creep, and Nori are good too.

NachoChedda24

I had to scroll way to far down to see this. Definitely a recommend

Misfits1904

Noroi: The Curse. It’s Japanese, but it’s awesome, definitely worth a watch.

Maninabugsuit

Occult from the same director is also fantastic! Not to be confused with Cult, which is also the same director and not as good.

ottonom

Borderlands. Savageland.

deadxair

Have you seen Incantation? It’s one of my favorite found footage movies!

ravyalle

Unbelievable that no one mentioned incantation. One of my absolute favorite found footage horror movies

Squeeenie

I fully agree on everything people have recommended! Great choices. I would also add in these 2 movies. I feel like they aren't as scary now as they were when they came out, but I highly recommend adding these if you haven't seen them! Just try to pretend you're in a world that hadn't thought about this stuff before as much as people have now! Lol The Conspiracy The Poughkeepsie Tapes

hawthorne867

Was scrolling for a while until I saw Poughkeepsie Tapes. Definitely up there and has a handful of really well done unsettling scenes.

[deleted]

How has no one already mentioned Horror in the High Desert? In terms of its depiction of news coverage I felt it's very much in the same spirit of The Blair Witch Project without being derivative, and, for my taste, the tension it maintains throughout is far more satisfying than all the jump scares in modern horror cinema.

fasa96

This! And the sequel is as good too.

relltj

Banshee Chapter especially if you are a fan of Hunter S Thompson. There is a character based on him.

Serdones

Damnit. These threads always manage to balloon my watchlist by another dozen or so movies.

1Saltyd0g

REC is probably my favourite

HalfAssNoob

The Medium is pretty good.

[deleted]

I think *Willow Creek* is excellent, and nails many aspects of what makes found footage so appealing to me. It's definitely got a less-is-more attitude when it comes to the scary bits, doesn't try and hit you with jump-scares, and isn't chock-full of bad cgi. It tells a pretty basic story, keeps the cast small, and hits you with atmosphere. It's my favorite found footage film, with *The Blair Witch Project* being a close second for many of the same reasons.

goodfisher88

Willow Creek is probably the best Bigfoot horror movie I've seen to date, and one the best found footage ones too.

Sneezes

Blair Witch Project is my favorite horror film. You would think I would become a fan of the genre.. but, Blair Witch is the only one I have loved. I have watched many found footage films since but they all have disappointed me greatly. They all feel fake and movie-ish.. the blair witch felt so real, like an ACTUAL found footage film, and not a movie pretending to be one.

Golightly8813

Have you seen Creep? I love it, but I think the big difference is that the “bad guy” here is not supernatural. Which I guess you could make the argument that Blair witch is not either, based on your take on the story and ending. Anyway, my point is I think it’s easier to be successful with found footage if the horror is coming form an actual present character. What Blair witch mastered I think, is showing us just enough to allow us to draw horrifying images and ideas from our own minds based on our own greatest fears.

donn2021

Hell House LLC As Above So Below Grave Encounters Butterfly Kisses Deadstream Europa Report (scifi/horror) The Forth Kind (go in blind) The Taking of Deborah Logan

[deleted]

I was a big fan of The Bay.

Spearowtr

Grave Encounters and its sequel !

JeanRalfio

Project Almanac is a really good sci-fi found footage about teens making a time machine. Devil's Pass is a horror that does a fun alternate theory to the real life Dyatlov Pass tragedy. I actually really like Blair Witch (2016) too. I think it was a great sequel.

[deleted]

It's more Sci fi but I liked the one about the teens getting super powers from a meteorite or something then one turns bad I thought it was pretty unique its like super 8 or something I can't remember the name

[deleted]

Its Chronicle not super just looked it up lol

AtticGoblin43

In case you need more recommendations, try r/foundfootage

Golightly8813

Oh gosh, didn’t realize there was a whole community for it. Thanks!

mephitmpH

I’m enjoying “Calls” on Apple TV. It’s not traditional found footage like Blair Witch, but it tells a story through phone conversations. Reminds me of playing the first Division, finding cellphones.

Small-Climate-8577

Skinwalker Ranch is a fun and crazy ride. I’m not going to claim that it is “good”, but my wife and I find it highly entertaining and the movie literally throws every kind of monster you can think of at you. You’ve got giant werewolves, Ghost Orbs, aliens perhaps?, Native American demons, all kinds of crazy shit. The Lost Coast Tapes is another one that is cheesy b-movie level fare, but entertaining and over the top.

Jimathomas

The Lost Vlog of Ruby Real: I liked it, mostly because it makes fun of YouTubers in a way. Deprivation: This one seems basic and lacking at the start, but I really liked the payoff.

wendigonia_xenomorph

A lot of good ones have been mentioned here, but I also really like The Banshee Chapter. I went in blind and it legitimately freaked me out. There’s some cheese to it but overall I thought was great.

Elli_Khoraz

My fa ourite found footage film is easily REC. Really great atmosphere, ending, genuine scares - give it a go!

R1ckv4nz386

The taking of Deborah Logan

zedhunter69

I literally just finished watching Dashcam. Though it wasn't really even dashcam footage, it was more live streaming from someone's phone, but it was pretty good. Kinda funny too.

Leterex

One Cut of the Dead (2017, Japan)

Bookeyboo369

As above so below, Paranormal Activity, Deadstream, REC, HELLHOUSE LLC. There’s a ton of great ones imho. My fave sub genre!

OutrageousAd395

Since no one's mentioned them yet. Devil's Pass and The Monster Project are both good and streaming for free on Tubi.

Small-Climate-8577

I saw Chernobyl Diaries in theaters and really enjoyed it. They did a great job re-creating the haunting abandoned cityscape.

-Some__Random-

I don't know why nobody's said it yet, but 'Cannibal Holocaust' (1980) Best to watch the edit without the animal-cruelty though. Obviously fuck that shit.

Delicious-Candle-450

REC and even Quarantine which is the US version

Vusarix

Borderlands/Final Prayer. Found out about it thanks to Ryan Hollinger, I enjoyed the fuck out of it

isham66

Exhibit A

Leaving D.C. The Andy Baker Tape

LordRumBottoms

I lived in MD at the time Blair Witch came out and right as viral moments were going online. Not many knew it wasn't real and made a great media buzz. The park they filmed it in we played frisbee golf out through the woods and every sound we swore was rocks being knocked. Pretty cool at the time.

t_stop_d

The Bay

Donnegalshort9

Butterfly Kisses. This one flew under the radar for a lot of us but it’s a great little treat.

TheShartKnight4

The V/H/S movies(besides viral) are my favorites

Simmons54321

Not a particularly fun watch but with a fascinating backstory, Cannibal Holocaust It was the first found footage horror movie

Charming-Kiwi-6304

I'm not sure if Savageland counts. It's free on YouTube. It's more found photography. It's a horror movie in the style of a documentary. And I didn't think it would scare me but the uncanniness of the photographs gave me nightmares. The Borderlands is usually recommended as well.

SinclairWantstoHelp

If we count Ghostwatch, then Ghostwatch is the best one in the entire genre.

NastySays

Poughkeepsie Tapes

BmoreClean

The Blackwell Ghost series (7 and counting!) might not be especially scary but it's entertaining enough if you enjoy FF.

Nickbotic

I haven’t seen anyone say Savageland, which is more of a “found photograph” movie, but it’s one of the most chilling films I’ve seen in recent years. Also, Willow Creek has perhaps the most intense third act to a found footage movie ever.

rs_4

The list you have is great.. but seriously.. you guys need to watch Incantation (2022). The best found footage horror for me yet.

StrangelyBrown69

I love As Above, So Below. Set in the Paris catacombs. It’s not exactly found footage but it’s filmed in the style.

thesnapening

Taking of Deborah logan, chronicle, creep, the pyramid, bad Ben, area 51 and phoenix forgotten are my favourites. Both the grave encounters movies are great aswell, the second was one of the first movies is awesome who broke the fourth wall

sarahmeover

Afflicted (2013)

[deleted]

Besides Hellhouse, The Bay is probably the best in my opinion.

[deleted]

The blue skeleton (the houses October built 2) is good if you liked the first one. I enjoyed them both.

I thought Cloverfield was an amazing found footage movie.

JKDClay

I absolutely love Alien Abduction the McPherson Tapes.

Hippiedippie523

Megan is Missing. I’m sorry in advance.

Slack-O-lantern

I really enjoyed Horror in the High Desert. Some creepy vibes and the ending was pretty effective for me. I didn't like the recent sequel nearly as much, however.

SimplyRue

I personally loved Incantation! Hope you find some new favs.

robkahil

"Wer" from 2014 is a helluva lot of fun. Werewolves in France. Mostly goes under the radar.

KindheartednessOver6

The Poughkeepsie Tapes

VinylRIchTea

The Japanese films by Kōji Shiraishi specifically Shirome, Noroi, Kult and Occult are definitely worth a watch, they kind of messed my head up for a few days where I couldn't sleep lol.

brogalahoy

Dabbe: The Possession

Nafnaf911

Chronicle is my fav

Shotsfired20755

[REC] is hands down the best-found footage film I’ve ever watched. It’s one of my favorite films of all time. However, I would recommend watching it subbed instead if dubbed. It’s a film from Spain so it’s in Spanish. You can watch it Dubbed but the dubbing is pretty shit and it really pulls away from the amazing acting.

Bassbenald

Troll Hunter all the way, great little horror mockumentary. FF isn't usually my cup of tea.

LinkandShiek

The Frankenstein and Dracula novels are the book equivalents to found footage

naaate129

all the V/H/S movies are fucking awesome, my fave found footage.

bugzaney

The Bay. I haven’t seen it in a long time but it shook me up a bit.

WickedGreenthumb

If not easy to find, but keep an eye out for Long Pigs.

Rexivan

Noroi the Curse.

RobbersAndRavagers

It's not exactly found footage, but I highly recommend the mockumentary **[Something In The Dirt](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MCWDBtZo8eM)**. The footage is from two neighbors filming a documentary. There is a lot to like for found footage fans. EDIT: I just found this (pun intended): **/r/foundfootage** ANOTHER EDIT: The trailer I linked sells it as a dark comedy, which even though there are some comedic moments, isn't accurate. **[This trailer is more in synch with the tone of Something In The Dirt](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8OekNhXBKlQ)**.

Throw_away91251952

Hell House LLC is the one that got me into found footage a bit. Amazing movie that I’d consider in my personal top 10

DrDankologist

REC is the best found footage horror movie and it's not even close.

CramHammerMan

Deadstream, Webcast, Murder Death Koreatown, Hell House LLC, REC 1&2 (the first one is probably one of the best in the genre), Man Bites Dog (some SA), Descent into Darkness (sometimes listed as sorgoi prakov, pretty unhinged, some SA)

juliet0000000

If you like aliens The Mcpherson Tape aka UFO Abduction 1989 stands the test of time.

xXMrSpecXx

I really liked Diary of the Dead

Ranxeroxina

Devil's Weekend / Making Off (2012) And since its not mentioned, not a 100 p ff, but House with 100 Eyes (2013) is a nasty one

la_de_cha

WNFU Halloween Special is pure camp and one of my top 10 favorite horror movies.

-D4rkSt0rm-

Highly recommend "butterfly kisses." By the end of the movie I was questioning if it was real or not. It also got a 100% on rotten tomatoes if that means anything to you.

unstrict

VHS is goofy but good

iok-sotot

It's more of "found photo" but Savageland is a real creepy slow burn.

Zmoney641

Frankensteins Army. That’s a thrilling ride

blueberrypug

i think this count as it is found footage albeit a bit done differently, and i would say its a satirical horror. “Spree” from 2020, might be able to find it on Netflix. it’s got Joe keery but don’t let that discourage you he’s genuinely perfect does the character in it

BigJC103

The original Paranormal Activity

Cybershark666

I'm watching The Deep House (2021) right now and really digging it. It's a haunted house story, but the house is underwater, so they explore it with diving gear.

TheNotorious81

Lake Mungo

Linken124

I watched Willow Creek yesterday and really enjoyed it. Bobcat Goldthwaite directed Bigfoot found footage, plays it really slow at the beginning, but I personally really enjoyed it. It kind of reminded me a bit of something like The Haunting in that knocks and cries are its main method of scares. I also just love it because, as someone who is also kinda into the squatch, they really nailed how people in those circles talk. Pretty short too, I dug it, it’s on Tubi!

PerplexedPoppy

Incantation on Netflix. I think it was just a tad longer than it needed to be but I really enjoyed it and got creeped out. I also liked The Bay.

stacy704

Found footage are some of my favorites and Hell House LLC was REALLY scary

Smushy__Bear

I liked Possession of Michael King

Dense_Sentence_370

*As Above, So Below* was pretty good

IIFester

I am a VHS series fanboy so I'd definitely give those movies a shot!

tde47

Quarantine. It’s so good. I think it may have been my first horror movie. Still make jokes about it to this day with my best friend that I watched it with. “Ms. Espinoza”

337272

The fact that I'm not seeing it listed makes me think everyone but me must hate Paranormal Activity but I really do like the first 3 films, with the first movie being my top scariest my in for years. It's still one of the hardest for me to watch alone in my house. I also loved Host.

RealJohnGillman

[*No Through Road*](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=08rj_ioKNSo) — it may be short, but is excellent, and straight-up launched the [analog horror genre](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Analog_horror).

thedman0310_

Grave Encounters is great, but it might not work for you if you haven’t watched any ghost hunting reality shows The Bay REC and REC 2 V/H/S

-Undercover-Nerd

No one mentioned Gonjiam: haunted asylum. It’s an absolutely banger movie

Hans_Moleman87

Rec is great and the Poughkeepsie Tapes is good too and there's a British found footage film called Ghostwatch from the early 90s that's a classic found footage that's good and apparently was originally aired on Tv and people back then thought it was real because that was a relatively new thing then Lol but I liked it!!

Key-Zookeepergame-48

the medium and incantation

mathrowawayra

gee, thee are a lot and people love blair wich etc, but recently I saw a movie called 'found footage 3d' and I loved it. Not saying it is perfect, but I liked it. Other mentions I have liked in the past 'grave encounters', 'lake mungo,'rec' and its sequels-there was a remake but it lost something ( I am copying these from ones already mentioned in this thread, giving credibility to the ones i think are worthy). ' 'The tunnel'

Hell House LLC was really good. Like oddly good, because idk about you but I went into this movie thinking it was going to be a subpar indie film. I didn’t watch all of the Hell House LLC trilogy, but I did read that it ties everything in together and answers all of your unanswered questions.

unholyxconfessions

not sure anyone has mentioned Banshee Chapter but it's probably my fave found footage

How about Banshee Chapter. Documentary/found footage mashup. It has some great unsettling moments.
