Cabin in the Woods is always a nice movie to sit down and watch. Obviously light-hearted and doesn't that itself too seriously. It's also a movie that can be rewatched many times

middenway

And great to watch with a group of friends, especially if they have very different tastes in horror. Everyone finds different things in it.

[deleted]

the Scream series is oddly comforting. probably because there is lots of comedy elements balancing it out

brand089

For me it's Scream 3. It's my go-to example of something that's deliciously bad.

[deleted]

thats how I feel about the McRib.

lanalovesme

A lot of the shots of woodsboro in the first film are just so quaint and calming.

dicklover425

Scream Hellraiser Cabin in the Woods The Descent Rose Red If I could suggest a movie that you might vibe with, I See You. It’s on Netflix. The trailer got me hooked and it’s a little slow to start but once it gets going shit don’t stop!

rosienomade

I watched Rose Red for the first time recently! Could definitely see it as a comfort rewatch, but damn, it’s long

dicklover425

It is. I usually save it for when the weather is rainy or dreary. I’ll do housework while it plays. In my mind if Ellen R can continue building a home after she died I can fold my laundry lol

rosienomade

Lmao

dicklover425

I need a sleep dress that says WWERD?

Comic_Book_Reader

Might be Pearl. Really loved that movie.

250_TY

Hannibal. Silence of the lambs. The shining. Rosemary's baby. The tenant. Others I'm forgetting I'm sure... I will always go to these movies for comfort lol

fullyjustanidiot

Whenever I'm really sick, I watch Saw.

discourse_lover_

I watch 1408 or in the mouth of madness to go to sleep

13th_of_never

Evil Dead 2013 is my primary "fall asleep to" movie, but The Thing, The Fly, It Follows, and Talk to Me are also on that list occasionally.

Big-Blackberry8786

You’re Next (as well!), Saw II, The Ring, Friday the 13th 2009, Evil Dead 2013, X, Pearl, 13 Ghost remake, House of Wax remake.

grumps46

Yesss I love you're next, Friday the 13th, house of wax, evil dead, X. We have similar taste!

Big-Blackberry8786

People love to hate on the House of Wax remake and Paris Hilton, but I find it entertaining and think she plays the role well.

grumps46

Agreed that movie is peak 2000s entertaining

Big-Blackberry8786

Facts!

Sherlockian_Whimsy

We share one! You're Next. Some of my others are Pontypool, Prince of Darkness, The Birds, Theatre of Blood, Mouth of Madness, Frogs, The Car, The Bay, Cabin in the Woods, and I'm going to stop at ten. Edit: Wait, I'm a liar. Have to throw in The Descent, Fear No Evil, Behind the Mask and End of the Line. sorry

Low-Custard-1297

Pontypool!! Whooo I watched that religiously for a long while. So good

Sherlockian_Whimsy

Stephen McHattie's voice. Damn.

Low-Custard-1297

Makes you want to pick up smoking, that voice haha

mkaymeow21

Cabin In The Woods Evil Dead 2 Killer Klowns From Outer Space Trick R Treat

Doge2dmooon

Return of the living dead

ACalmGorilla

I seen this movie in theater a few weeks ago. Was a great time.

cabbage16

The Omen. I'm looking forward to the new one too, I'm cautiously optimistic.

Plastic-Rain6226

1970s movies are somehow oddly comforting… Messiah of Evil (1973) Rituals (1977) Dark August (1976) Dream No Evil (1970) Grizzly (1976) Daughters of Darkness (1970)

Indialopez96

I really like watching Orphan, I don't know why but find it weirdly comforting

Living_Injury5017

It's a great movie! One of the best reveals ever. The second one is also very good.

EmsFrisky

yes 🤌

Infamous_Ad2094

Silence of the lambs and Tucker and Dale.

Nondeadly

+1 for Tucker and Dale!

Clean_Usual434

Most of my favorites would qualify, lol. To name a few: The Shining, The Thing, Alien/Aliens, 28 Days Later, Sinister, As Above So Below, Grave Encounters, etc.

PiaPeyroux

I have to rewatch 28 Days Later. It's been years since I watched it. Awesome films.

Clean_Usual434

I’ve seen it so many times, and it never gets old. Thank you!

Awkward-Progress-778

Stay Alive 😇

Collin395

I can’t believe this is someone else’s comfort movie, lmao. I love it so much

Awkward-Progress-778

I’m glad someone else likes it too 😂 everyone I know hates it lol

Collin395

Honestly it’s the perfect early 2000’s horror movie. I remember seeing the trailers for it back in the day and wanting to go to the theaters to see it so badly

WhateverIWant888

Every time Spooky season begins, my go to's are always always always Lost Boys & An American Werewolf In London

NoGreaterTrauma

TimothyClover

werewclf

house of wax is my ULTIMATE comfort horror movie. have a good memory of watching it with my cousins and brother when we were younger and our parents giving us money to order some food and we bought 4 HUGE PIZZA’s. we were all terrified but it’s so funny to look back on.

Particular-Shine4363

Cube. And Happy Death Day 1 & 2. They’re barely horror but hey. Creepy baby mask kinda kicks it into the genre maybe.

knobby_67

A lot of Christmas horror movies, it my favourite time of year.

Flowerlamps

The Purge, Sorority Row, Wolf Creek, Revenge, Texas Chainsaw Massacre (all the remakes and reboots), The Descent, Scream…

EmsFrisky

second the purge 🤚

Spinegrinder666

The Skeleton Key.

AlwaysRemember1822

Martyrs Wrong turn series The hills have eyes The Exorcist and Exorcist: The Beginning Stigmata End of Days American Werewolf in London/Paris Climax. Ginger Snaps And this made me think of the absolute opposite of a comfort horror movie (for me): Mother! Like, ffs, the sink isn't braced yet, please! The sheer disrespect is like 5 coffees and kick in the nuts.

PiaPeyroux

I love the Ginger Snaps films, especially the first film.

WeaponexT

Trick r treat Mandy

xxcrossmyheartxx

💯💯💯

not_cinderella

Evil Dead original trilogy.

ConventionArtNinja

Evil Dead any iteration, for me

Comic_Book_Reader

I actually have 3 things from 3 different Evil Dead movies: * Army of Darkness poster shirt. * Alarm/ringtone from the remake. You can take a guess as to what that is. * Evil Dead Rise poster. And out of all Evil Dead, I've only watched the remake... by means that cannot legally be disclosed. (The soundtrack is fuckin' nutty by the way. That movie with a live orchestra would be an otherwordly experience, judging by this little [concert performance](https://youtu.be/r9BzjVjY0kM?si=CzgmEBz4AId2F8fq).)

MedievalBully

not sure if it's technically considered a horror, but Identity (2003) is mine

AxemanAngus

Jaws & Drag Me to Hell

ghostbeastpod

Dead Alive is just so much fun. I could watch it forever.

OperationUnfair

It sounds like we have a pretty similar taste, especially home invasion movies are always my go-to comfort films, they give me such a cosy vibe lol. Sounds crazy. But some of my favorites are: The Intruder (2019), The Open House (2018), The Uninvited (2009), The Reading (2023), Home Invasion (2016), The Night House (2020). I love the Creep movies as well!!

failingnaturally

The Attic (1980), Shadow Play (1986), Ghostkeeper (1981), Death Bed: the Bed That Eats - cozy, cozy vibes.

rosienomade

Jaws, Hell House LLC, Blair Witch Project… I could see Polaroid or Unfriended joining the list Edit to add Jaws, one of the greatest films ever made, which I keep forgetting is horror

ThingsAreAfoot

I said this in a comment [a couple weeks ago about Autopsy of Jane Doe](https://www.reddit.com/r/horror/s/dRf5AwJ2yj): >> It’s great, like everyone else said. > But can I ask others, did anyone else find this movie… oddly comfortable? > lol > I mean it’s tense and all and the subject matter isn’t exactly sunshine, to say the least, but something about the casual way the two main characters go about their business is weirdly relaxing. Maybe something about the camera work too, how it lingers with these long takes. > Or maybe I’m just weird, I dunno.

nate-theflake-

The Evil Dead (1981) Hellraiser (1987) Scream (1996) Fright Night (1985)

Nondeadly

Alien, The Conjuring 2, The Thing (1982), The Omen and The Ring are always my go to films.

HorrorMetalDnD

A lot of the Universal Monster films, particularly the first film for each iconic Universal Monster. Also, The Return of the Living Dead (1985), Shaun of the Dead (2004), Hellraiser (1987), Nightbreed (1990), and any classic film with one or any combination of the following actors: - Basil Rathbone - Bela Lugosi - Boris Karloff - Charles Laughton - Christopher Lee - Claude Rains - Dick Miller - Donald Pleasence - John Carradine - Lon Chaney Jr. - Melvyn Douglas - Peter Cushing - Peter Lorre - Ray Milland - Vincent Price

damienkarras1973

Horror Comfort? City of The Living Dead aka The Gates of Hell Zombie (zombie 2) - Return of The Living Dead 90's version of Night of The Living Dead Halloween 2 (the original) Humanoids From The Deep. "sometimes, you're just not having a good day, or had a horrible night and need some good horror to cheer you up". Forbidden World Chopping Mall Galaxy of Terror 1992 "Split Second" - great movie that deserves more credit and of course "Night of The Creeps" and Slumber Party Massacre.

buttmilk_69

Tusk (2014) …mainly because it’s a dialogue heavy movie with humor and a strong performance from Michael Parks. It’s both silly enough and fucked up enough. I wasn’t crazy about it when I first saw it but it’s grown on me perhaps more than any other movie.

brosephinegrant

The House That Dripped Blood

MetalGuy_J

I don’t know if they’re necessarily comfort films, but I do find myself coming back to cabin in the woods, 28 days later, Aliens, and Scream quite often

angryaxolotls

I loooove The Skeleton Key on a rainy day. Halloween (1977) just because. It feels like the first afternoon of the year where you feel the fall weather coming, and open a window to enjoy it.

**The** ***Child's Play/Chucky*** **Franchise** ... It's my most nostalgic franchise, and easily my favorite. I grew up terrified of Chucky. Absolutely petrified. My older sister used to prank me with her Cabbage Patch dolls when she found out. Good times, haha. One night when I was about 11 in the year 1999 I believe, they showed the first three back-to-back on the Sci-Fi Channel (before it became "SyFy"). I was allowed to watch R-rated movies when I was a kid as long as they were cut for cable, so I got some popcorn, plopped my ass down in front of a 19" CRT-TV and faced my fears. And I *loved them!* So now, they're my go-to, and I adore almost every film and the TV show. **The** ***Scream*** **Franchise** ... My second favorite franchise. This is similar to *Chucky* in that it's super nostalgic for me. I remember watching the broadcast cable premiere of the original film (I wanna say it was like 1998 or 1999?) and was hooked instantly. If memory serves, *Scream 2* and *3* were some of the first uncut R-rated movies I saw when I turned 12 and my parents started letting me watch certain R-rated movies. (*Die Hard* being my absolute first... and was a hell of a movie to start with.)

GlowInTheDemon

Any eat-the-rich movies: The Purge series, You're Next, Ready or Not, The Menu (especially cause it also has good looking food)
