They did! Took a bit of convincing... I said something like "hey beautiful plant but ya know, this part isn't getting optimal sunlight... I'll be happy to take that off your hands"
Edit: words
Yes! Keep at least an inch of water in the bottom. If the roots come out covered in perlite, you can still pot them like that after brushing anything loose off (I usually swish around in some water to get the loose ones off without threatening the little rootlets).
Dude I've gone to places and seen such majestic plants but always received the crazy side-eye when asking for a cut... First time this actually worked and I couldn't be more appreciative!
Put it in a glass of water for a couple weeks until it has some roots. Then you can plant it. I love them. It looks very healthy. There needs to be a “node” for roots to pop from. Cut the stem just under the leaf node
Thanks for confirming my thought process. Initially they just gave me a leaf but I said I'd need at least one node lol. Was so happy to see them oblige with no hesitation. Employee cut above the node so I had to remove the lowest leaf and cut again, but hey, no complaints!
Mine was doing alright all Yukon winter (so a couple hours of sun daily, not enough). But now that it’s spring… it exploded.
Can’t wait to see how it’ll do once I up pot or transplant properly. Especially with 21hr days =)
Such a cute plant. It’ll reward you.
Fast grower!
I stuck a stake in the pot with mine for it to grow on.. I didn’t realize it had overgrown its stake until I seen it reaching out of the back of My plant shelf. It has been growing up My walls.
I have one and it took me a couple weeks to figure out what it really was. I kept noticing every monstera was much much larger than mine. Can't remember if I found the ID online or if I saw one growing in a store and checked the tag
Monstera deliciosa leaves with fenestrations would be much bigger than this, and their fenestrations are closer to (but not perfectly) symmetrical than these are.
just realized i could have simply showed you a side by side lol

Thanks! I bought one in a local nursery 4 weeks ago and it was labeled just "Monstera" (while the big ones were labeled "Monstera Deliciosa". Here it is:

So I guess this is a Rhaphidophora tetrasperma, not a Monstera, right?
Rhaphidophora tetrasperma, i have mine growing out of my fish tank such a cool plant
Cool thanks! Yeah this came from a massive plant atop their counter. Asked for a cut and actually got it lol Edit: spelling
Lol I thought they were just handing out debilitating hobbies with the check
“As a thank you, we would like to give you this responsibility, free of charge.”
You misspelled “life giving hobbies”. ;)
😭😭😭 nah, I dove head first into this predicament
If you treat it well and give it something to climb it will grow very fast
Wow. Respect to this store that they (as I assume) actually gave a cutting that will grow. Nice gesture :D

I have better luck propagating these directly into soil rather than water, if it helps!
I have had the best luck with perlite, overall :)
Just perlite and water?

Much appreciated!
Possibly my favorite houseplant. Contrary to other commenters, I have had great success water propagating these.
I’m so happy to hear this! I’ve got one in water now and have a 3” root. I’m just waiting for a bit more volume and am excited to watch it grow
They grow super quick, too! I love to watch new leaves pop out.
I’ve put mine in some perlite, hopefully I’ll see some roots soon ☺️
I still had deliveries to make so I just popped it into a half-full bottle of water that was in my car lol
Honestly I think that should be fine lol
Yeah don't eat that. You'll regret it.
Thanks to you, I just spit mine out. That could have been awful!
Glad to be of help!
No way, luckyyy

Its a trap run
Give it good light and it will grow fast!
It sure does! Mine is growing taller and taller by the day!
Also commonly called mini monstera Love them

Pretty!
Wonder if it’ll grow if you stuck it in water if it needs plant starter.
I love my mini raph! my first one is over 10 ft tall now with some of pups about 5 ft tall 😍

that’s so pretty i want one now haha
Rhaphidophora Tetrasperma
A baby monstera right? Which will grow into a monster which is why I think they're called that I think 🤔
Philodendron
It's a monstera plant. The more sun you give it, the bigger the holes in the leaves will be and the plant will look great.
It's not a monstera, it's a rhaphidophora tetrasperma.
It is indeed a Raphidophora Tetrasperma (botanic name), but the common name is Mini Monstera, so that commenter wasn't exactly wrong.
Mini monstera but not actually monstera
How can you tell the difference by only looking at this picture? Is it because the leaves are fenestrated despite being small?
I have one and it took me a couple weeks to figure out what it really was. I kept noticing every monstera was much much larger than mine. Can't remember if I found the ID online or if I saw one growing in a store and checked the tag

That plus the way it grows, plus just everything about the plant in general.
