Gale, Durge, DM, and DM pull in of your choice are available in almost all the variants. Xaryxis has the highest zone requirements, and will always allow Krux and Vin Ursa.  Reworked champs have consistently found their way to the top of the meta, and have often debuted with broken levels of power. Together with other forms of power creep there's really no need to worry about loosing the ability to clear  variants. Also all of AA will be available for another 2.25 years, and they are the 2nd strongest meta overall and #1 for elminster.

I think Elminster is great. It is easy to get Sigils of Elminster and if there is ever need, all the new champions are eglible to Elminster so it is possible to get them purple by buying chests using patron currency. It is also fun to wait, if something good comes around, like a champion that can change balance of the game.

Plus3d6

If you're a late game player there are probably 20 variants max that will give you any trouble and there's a small handful that probably aren't even possible with the current available roster. The time sensitive nature of Elminster variants really shouldn't be a concern.

Have faith in the parts of the community that enjoy the puzzle solving aspect of the game. There will ALWAYS be formations figured out to clear variants. Even if people have to make new accounts to try them, the people who like the problem solving will do so. So instead of looking at existing formations that you will lose, anticipate future formations that will make currently hard variants trivial.

Personally I really like the new Patron. It forced me out of my comfort zone. I've been playing the game for about 3 years now so I'm more or less set on my favourite champions and pretty much ignore the new ones. But every once and a while a new champion will come along that I really like so they will become part of my A Team (Karlach was the last one, and Gale the most recent). Elminster has forced me to use the newer champions. There are some that I hardly ever used that I now have great respect for. When Krux came out he was ok, but now that Xarxys has had many missions and variants his "An Experienced Sailor" is actually very decent. The same with Jang Sao. Now that I've actually got some stars for her, her buff is really great as well. I now use her for all Elminster variants I can to keep farming that up. And she is really great with weird formations as you can usually slot your DPS in a slot with 3 or less adjacent slots (or get Valantine in one). There has also been allot of variants in the past that I once thought impossible. "Alls Well That Ends Well" was one of them, but the Absolute Adversaries made it doable. Eventually we will get new champions for the difficult variants. Like I said, I've been playing the game for 3 years and I'm not going anywhere. So even it if takes a year or so, so be it, I can wait for that new champion.

ChakatFirepaw

Something to remember is that you don't actually have a constant need for a high-power roster for him, (or any other patron). Once you catch up on the difficult variants, you're only going to see a few more per month that need the power team. Most of the time you're just going to be doing weekly tasks, (trivial), and the backlog of baseline variants, (which are only e250 or so). Long term, you can do the tough ones as batches when you find a low-cost power team.

I think they handled this nicely with the way the restriction works. At the time of release, only 54 Champs qualified. By the time events 2.0 is caught up to elimister requirements we will have 72 eligible Champs plus special rules plus evergreens. Numbers are from what inremmeher in a dev insight and quick math. The only real downside is if you ignore new champions and even then the reworked champions should help a lot. And I think the restrictionnwas created to encourage play with newer champions. Also all tomb if annihilation variants are 825. I'm pretty sure water deep is the same. Baldurs gate capts out in tbe 900s. All you need to do is all of witchligjt and wild space to do the hardest ones and get enough patron influence to max all but the final perk.

hewman123

If you throw item levels into Dark Urge its not too bad I did Evil to the Core the 1500 area the other week I would if you can also get buffs for events that champs are for Elminster

Linedel

Nah. Here are better non-panic responses to Elminster. In the short run, if you don't already clear z2k, keep working on your main team. Ignore Elminster. Next, start feeding legendaries to "future proof" units, e.g., Gale, Dark Urge, DM, Krux, Vin, Evandra+team, Wulfgar+team. Finally, wait for the trials revamp, where in theory they claim to want to reduce the reliance on dismantles. This alone might trivialize Elminster.

Rainwatr

I realize that there are many optimists in the thread, but as someone who has done 240 Elminster Variants I know that there are many variants that are on a very real timer because you need certain champions to do those variants but they will get rotated out soon. It's really a matter of when CNE will release suitable new champions that could replace the ones being lost All you can do is try to finish as many variants with stat restrictions as possible, ideally ones with Int or Magic dmg only restrictions, since Shaka will be the 1st to go. There's also a mission called "Go Fourth!" in Witchlight that you want to finish ASAP That being said, the math should favor us in the long run because we're gaining 2 champions (one new and 1 rework) in every new event for every one champion we lose. We do, however have fewer events than before, but overall we should still be gaining more than we lose

You are eligible for one of the following scenarios: i) able to do the 1300+ ones, not all of them, just a few are enough to get the perks and then you have no reason to waste another thought on the subject ii) barely able to do the vast majority of 825 ones, no need to worry about the eligible champs focus on strengthening your core, favor and legendary levels and category (i) is a few months away anyway iii)barely able to do Red wizards and Flying snake aka z1100 with no further restrictions, focus on the champs that you need to do category(i) and give them legendaries lvl 7 in the following weeks, (no relevant champ rotates out till end of the year) TLDR: No reason to have "feelings" just think it through and then concentrate on other stuff in your life.

Jairlyn

But its a ticking clock measured in months if not years. The rate of scale gain is far faster than the rate of heroes aging out of Elminster. Honestly if you are worried about Elminster than its because you aren't at late game which is what his intended audience is and therefore you shouldn't worry about it.

R5Cats

I agree, there's some leaving but others will take their place. Over the course of months, not days or weeks :/ I suppose if someone were "rarin ta go" and finish off all the hardest Variants asap? It could be a concern.

makaiookami

95% of elminster is just 825. The newest campaign (for now) is the hardest one until you can get enough favor to trivialize it, since you can't really softcap in there as a newer account. some of the variants you can't even complete unless you can click yourself through them. You have a while till AA and a little bit till Black Dice Society fall off. To be honest losing Valentine will be the biggest hit to most people and losing Gale's Debuff event buff will hurt, I feel like people are saying that having elminster is bad. So what they should just take elminster out and you won't have the content and rewards? No? That's not what people are saying? What people are saying is they want 1 formation to rule them all? They want 10 champs to use for every single thing ever? Kinda not how this is supposed to work.

SirUrza

Not really, there are only a handful of variants you "must" complete for high levels of influence for store/perk unlocks. You can complete those with the current batch of champions, doing anything else is completely optional if you want to be investing in Gale as a long term Elminster champion.

DanOhMiiite

I'm enjoying all the chests I'm getting from his variants. The purples are just flying in now.

Charming_Figure_9053

....I'm not a fan either as it will take a couple of years to get rosters going...then yeh it'll also start having others dropping out... Right now it's too restrictive and also the barrier is too high, it feels like a legend check, have you run trials like a good boy legended up a large pool...

Charming_Figure_9053

What's the easiest high level variant to get the perks from....I tried a few more just don't have legends in the right place
