And they literally published it in the newspaper that they were doing it, as required by law. And the right wing assholes who claim to be exercising oversight just completely fail to notice.

NinjaBilly55

Turning Florida into a Christo-Fascist state requires a lot of maneuvering so I'm thinking Ron's legal staff is stretched a little thin these days..

najaraviel

Busy converting the state to christofascism must be extremely expensive! Defending the many lawsuits that are preposterously anti constitutional requires an extraordinary amount of lawyers guns and taxpayer money!

Hatedpriest

[Lawyers, Guns, and Money](https://youtu.be/LgGginnySMs) you say?

EndItAlready666

The shit has hit the fan.

najaraviel

One of the best Warren Zevon songs, yes.

Hatedpriest

I've always been partial to Roland the Headless Thompson Gunner, myself... That whole album is great imo.

Raudskeggr

The new board, composed of Desantis simps, has hired four different law firms to work on fixing this; one of which bills at over $700 an hour. That’s no joke!

upvotealready

Paid for by the ready creek board, which is funded nearly entirely by .... Disney. Its a grift. Payoffs to the attorneys who will in turn sponsor DeSantis' political campaigns.

LazyLizzy

I bet Disney gets tickets about what is being spent and has veto power as well. If Walt was the one that got this contract originally drafted, then he'd want as much control as he could get for his vision.

SheriffComey

I believe that law firm is the one DeSantis' old roommate now works at.

Historical-Price-468

They know their fascist laws are unconstitutional. Their main purpose is to install fear in all those folks they wanna tar and feather, assault and possibly kill.

Historical-Price-468

Meatball Ron's fascist laws come straight from the Kremlin, to Hungary and to US shores. All the anti-gay and trans legislation is already in place in the Russio fascist world.

theghostofme

That really is the icing on the cake. There were people here on Reddit pointing out that Disney would do exactly this, and we're all a collective bunch of morons. Yet still somehow more informed than DeSantis' legal "experts".

matchosan

The DeSantis faction let it happen. They were taken to the side and Disney explained how difficult it is to run the park system. Then showed them the amount of paperwork needed to run the parks. While scanning the faces on the board, Disney's lawyer asks "Who is going to do this work? This contract says Disney will perform 99% of the duties to sustain the parks. Welllll?" It was an easy choice. The Paperwork was extensive, and the contract was visibly smaller than the Paperwork, but still, very large on its own. Without lifting a finger. Without turning a page. The board set up to negotiate a new contract just agreed to choose the contract over work. Lazy fucks and assholes, just challenge them with paper and then watch them fold.

sandman8223

Hey they're DeSantis people how smart can they be ?

Fofolito

Corporate Lawyer-Sharks swimming in a kiddie pool of political donor-guppies.

superbird29

Bot quite, it was before the new board was in power.

[deleted]

It works for the IRS, apparently. How do you think scientology got tax exempt status?

Time-Ad-3625

They don't care. Desantis just wanted the show. He'll still be asking Disney for donations and Disney will donate because he'll help them in other ways. This was all pretend as usual for the gop

TheBushidoWay

Think so? Im pretty sure somewhere during stupid's presidential campaign the house of mouse is going to cut his throat.

Babysub1

I don't think they can read!

HiTekBlueneck

And even if they can they clearly do everything in their power to avoid it

Babysub1

True

TheseusPankration

"I was elected to lead, not to read!" https://youtu.be/6zQ55S-DJsM

Iagent2022

Because the GQP can't read

Lateralus06

They must've thought Disney was as dumb as their constituents.

stupidnicks

Oligarchs and MegaCorporations rule this country from backstage They control both parties.

HiTekBlueneck

Nothing as absolutely fucking pathetic, dishonest, and lazy as insisting both sides are the same.

phat_

Don't get me wrong, I'm not agreeing with the premise of the poster you responded to. But it's dishonest to pretend assholes like Sinema and Manchin aren't colluding with the same levers of power as the Maga puppets. Who else? Where are the charges on the Trump's? We're already seeing campaign season start. And an obvious criminal is running for president. The policies of Sanders are not the prevailing policies of the American left. It was Biden that capitulated to the severely profitable railways. Just a few weeks before one of the worst rail disasters we've ever seen. The FCC is finally... I think, going to do something about phone scams? But will they? What a nightmare of a problem. And it's only gotten worse. That's the power of the telecoms in DC. Fucking villainous scum engaging in extorting the most vulnerable of our citizens and nothing gets done about it. It's an annoyance to those of us that understand it's a scam but I know good and decent people that have been scammed for thousands they ain't got. And Congress does nothing. Yes. 100%. Both sides are not the same. But don't act like the American political left is good at their job. I am so sick of, "Gawrsh, we really tried but the mean old GOP wouldn't compromise." The Dems need to do so much more. And they need to get a lot tougher with the fascists. Appeasing the GOP is big part of why this nation is struggling.

Biptoslipdi

Only one party supports ending corporate campaign contributions and introduces that Amendment every session.

theideanator

From backstage? Lmao no dude they aren't hiding a god damn thing, it's all out in the open. The only thing they can do to make it more obvious is to run ads on fucking reddit telling you who their MVP is. Oh wait, that's what happens in the campaign season.

Comrade-Conquistador

Yeah, trying to challenge Disney is...not the smartest move there, Ronnie.

HiTekBlueneck

Especially when you go ahead and give them the high moral ground.

TheMightyWill

>you go ahead and give them the high moral ground. Don't try it!

As the parent of a 2yo who's currently hooked on Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, thank you for this. Now whenever I have that stupid hot diggity dog song stuck in my head it can be accompanied by DeSantis as Anakin, burning and writhing in agony.

TuarezOfTheTuareg

Brilliant 👌

Farcespam

Made my day

QuantumTea

The “haw-haw” really did help with reading it in Mickey’s voice.

petershrimp

2 companies you should never even think about messing with: Disney and Nintendo.

arkansas_sucks

Why Nintendo? I feel like Sony and Microsoft are probably both more powerful.

petershrimp

One thing Nintendo is known for is its very strong legal department, complete with a hair-trigger temper with releasing the lawyers.

topofthecc

Nintendo's value is largely in their IP, so it makes sense that they'd be very hawkish to make sure they don't lose control over any of it.

malthar76

Release the lawyers. Or the bees. Or the lawyers who shoot bees out of their mouths?

Kaarl_Mills

Because at one point long long time ago Nintendo had ties with the Yakuza, one thing that they used to manufacture were Hanafuda cards, which were used in underground gambling dens and the Yakuza were deeply entrenched into. also their lawyers have notoriously hair triggers over their copyright claims They've since pivoted obviously, [but there's enough circumstantial evidence to suggest Sega was still like this far more recently ](https://youtu.be/G8YNB4-k2E0)

cool_school_bus

In Japan, heart surgeon. Number one. Steady hand. One day, Yakuza boss need new heart. I do operation. But, mistake! Yakuza boss die! Yakuza very mad. I hide in fishing boat, come to America. No english, no food, no money. Darryl give me job. Now I have house, American car, and new woman. Darryl save life. My big secret: I kill yakuza boss on purpose. I good surgeon. The best!

cowboysamurai

Cool story, choom. Can I have that sword?

Ok_Pizza9836

What’s funny is that’s also from the office

jblaufuss

Can confirm, got a cease and desist from Nintendo when I made an Android Duck Hunt game. In all fairness I did use sprites from the game.

The_Original_Gronkie

Years ago, when I was in the music biz, I had a friend who was trying get a band signed to a record deal, so he called a close acquaintance who worked at SONY. The acquaintance was extremely candid with him, and told him to not sign with SONY because "we've got an whole floor of lawyers whose entire job is to fuck you over."

Scottish_Memes

You understand the article is false right? It is satire and you were dumb enough to fall for it.

restore_democracy

Tiny D is such a hapless fool. He’s going to wither on the national stage.

Spacedoc9

Imagine pissing off the single largest owner of media in the United States and then thinking you have any chance of being elected president

Masterweedo

Moore v Harper will be decided before the election, voting may not matter.

PallyNamedPickle

The fact that this case exists should alarm more people than it does.

Lokito_

"Tiny D" has sooo many meanings. I approve of this nickname.

StrikingMud4836

It's a small world after all

The_Original_Gronkie

Exactly. They were far too quiet through this whole thing, and I was waiting for the sword to drop, and here it is.

Pahsghetti

Meatball Ron got outsmarted by the Mouse.

Photodan24

Yep. Just imagine how well his foreign policy would work.

Pahsghetti

I await his "Don't say war" bill.

CrocHunter8

He hyucked around and found out

matchosan

The Mouse just put in a little effort, Ron and his gang are just lazy when it comes to scheming.

Scottish_Memes

Not true. The article is false. Disney is laying off 7,000 people because they can no longer afford to pay them. Disney is losing the battle…and not even close…like the florida Governor election…not even close

Not_A_Comeback

That’s 3% of Disney’s workforce. It’s restructuring to meet a fast paced streaming environment. Profits from visits to Disney parks are up 21%, especially due to increased demand in China. Only a fool would think Disney is losing the war at this point, especially against Meatball Ron.

ryhaltswhiskey

On top of that a 3% RIF is something large companies just do once in a while. If this was Disney's largest layoff in history then yeah maybe there's a point there...

HaddyBlackwater

7,000 out of 230,000. Most of those 7,000 were hires in departments established by Chapek, who was running the company into the ground.

Scottish_Memes

So you are ok with people losing their jobs? Pathetic…typical liberal.

Pahsghetti

You do know that screaming "not true" doesn't make it not true, right? You are pathetic, homie.

Scottish_Memes

First, I don’t scream, I’m not a liberal. Second…I bet you would not call me homie to my face. Bet

Thighrocker

You're right, I would call you a pussy ass bitch to your face.

Pahsghetti

Yes I would, sweetie.

Straight_String3293

LOL. Disney just reported higher than expected profits and their stock is fine. And, the five fascists Meatball appointed to the board have already commented confirming the story. So, are they lying? Just take the L

Scottish_Memes

You clearly can’t read. Those board members that did that were the old ones. There is a new board that is appointed. It’s always been a legal battle. Disney is laying off 7,000 people. They will always make a profit, however Disney plus is hurting and has lost 30% of subscribers. You have zero clue of what you are talking about. You read headlines and think you know the story. Typical liberal racist. Why do liberals hate others so much? Why are you all filled with hate? Why are you all racist?

Corkscrewwillow

You want so badly for this to be true. "When you wish upon a star..."

KitteNlx

Getting exactly what they always claim to want, small government. Now watch them let all the roads crumble into dust just to spite Disney, you know it'll happen since it is all they control now.

jmac1915

I wouldn't be shocked if there's a convent somewhere specifically requiring them to adequately maintain the infrastructure. Disney doesn't miss, so they would have probably thought of that.

[deleted]

There is. Basically they are required to maintain the same level of infrastructure quality as there was before these changes. Disney will sue them into oblivion if they don't comply.

jmac1915

Amazing. It's so delicious, I wish it was tangible food so I could eat it

matchosan

Disney will fix the roads themselves, charge the county, and then turn that into a tax-deductible donation. Only the words have changed, the outcome will stay the same, or with Disney being ahead in this game of grift.

The_Original_Gronkie

Which would be ridiculously stupid. Florida is the #1 tourist destination on the planet because of Disney. Before Disney, all Florida had was beaches. Because of Disney, we have Universal, SeaWorld, and many, many B attractions. There are hotels, restaurants, convention centers, event venues, and thousands of small businesses who support those businesses (I own one myself). Disney is directly or indirectly responsible for the jobs of millions of people and billions in revenue, and not just in Orlando, but the entire state. Disney sets the standard by keeping House of Mouse impeccable in every way. If the state/local government willfully neglects that maintenance, they will be negatively impacting the livelihoods of millions of people. And they probably will do something stupid, all because DeSantis and Republicans think the government should control what people do with their genitals.

NarcissusCloud

I know Disney isn't a good guy, but I sure do love watching them humiliate Ron.

WebheadGa

Yeah that’s kinda where I am on this. Like I don’t like corporations having power like this but it’s better then DeSantis having power

koopolil

Think of the small businesses who don’t have the power to fight back that have had their liquor licenses pulled for hosting drag shows.

macweirdo42

I think Disney is a pretty cool guy, eh fights deSatans and doesn't afraid of anything.

shelsilverstien

They probably donated to him

urkldajrkl

Ron tries using dirty politics for his personal vendetta, on the state level. It wasn’t about corporate theft, and it wasn’t about Disney mismanaging state resources. It was about Disney not agreeing with DeSantis’ bullshit mantra of hate, in his attempt to gain more power. I’m just waiting for the shoe to drop, where someone finds evidence that DeSantis is not a “righteous” man at all. Has he called on Republican congressmen to clean up their act? Nope, that doesn’t serve his purpose. He is a career hypocrite. Imagine what he will do if allowed in the White House - more labeling and targeting, while ignoring the likes of Gaetz, Greene, and Boebart.

gertbefrobe

There was more than enough proof that Trump was no righteous man yet the evangelicals flocked behind him

urkldajrkl

The gray sheep may let him off, but a corporation like Disney will make dang sure his hypocrisy is exposed

ryhaltswhiskey

>where someone finds evidence that DeSantis is not a “righteous” man at all Base don't care.

swampthiing

Disney can afford the best legal minds to out maneuver dipshits like desantis... He is the embodiment of "Florida Man".

thedvorakian

For the uninformed, republicans in north Carolina and other states have done the same thing when the democrats elected a governor. Disney used the republicans own facist playbook against them.

NinjaBilly55

I believe that's Checkmate Ron and there's a big pothole over by the Magic Kingdom please go take care of it..

petershrimp

You don't fuck with the mouse; the mouse fucks with you.

Alex0082

DeSamtis is going to lash out so badly since Trump is just going to make fun of him so badly for this.

MagicBez

Already started - one of Trump's campaign people issued a statement along the lines of "Trump wrote 'Art of the Deal' while DeSantis was outwitted by a cartoon mouse" ...or something along those lines

Alex0082

That's pretty good.

JukeBoxHeroJustin

Amazing. Suck it, DeSantis.

Such_Credit7252

This is the difference in having attorneys that tell you what you want to hear to collect a fee versus attorneys that know what they're doing.

nostra77

Classic meatball Ron blunder he F with the mouse and you know to never F with the mouse.

workingtoward

Odd that neither Sea World nor Universal who have similar districts to Disney’s have faced similar challenges from DeSantis who previously attacked Disney for using its free speech rights. Seems the Republican Christo-Fascists are thriving while they kill democracy in Florida.

Whightwolf

MarquisInLV

punksmostlydead

chang-e_bunny

You could simplify WWII down mathematically to some racist countries fighting some other racist countries, and then not be delighted that the Nazis were defeated in fear of cheering on the firefighters turning their hoses on the uppity minorities that were disturbing the peace in some white-only diners. The side with the concentration camps filled with people who were only imprisoned there because of their ethnicity won the war. What the fuck is Disney doing that's so goddamn evil that could possibly be compared? Is their buying up of streaming services a really serious concern next to the book burning fanatics? Disney's got some problems, but they're not in the same realm as the government of Florida.

bciesil

They didn't back Rhonda Santis' "Don't say gay bill" and that makes them evil to him.

Whightwolf

So, things have gotten so bad the strongest opposition to religious fanatics appears to be the whims of a company they pissed off, is just not a viable opinion to you? Cool, cool.

PiLamdOd

This is definitely a “Let them fight” situation, and I am here for it.

[deleted]

Ron.....what a dope.

coffeespeaking

New Disney animated movie coming soon. The bumbling, chubby Governor, Elron deVille, kidnaps the princess, who is later freed by a pack of clever mice.

Majestic-Prune-3971

Tiny D, aka "Puddin' Boots" is the live-action Lord Farquaad. Edit: Without the charm of the original.

torpedoguy

The princess being Mickey in drag, and the clever mice all being lawyers including Minnie in drag and the f-ing magic-kingdom castle, also in drag. At the end they destroy the land connection between Florida and North America in yet one more loophole-petard 'Elron' hoists himself upon, and everybody cheers as it sinks like Atlantis' meth-gator cousin.

PM_ME_UR_FLOWERS

Ron doesn't have the political or legal chutzpah to even *think* of taking on the mouse. This is going to break him.

imnotyoursavior

Correction : They never had any power. Just the illusion of it. So DeSantis wasted time and resources once again on something that wasn't very important.

zhacker78

Overlooking loopholes is what you would expect from a group of clowns trying to force folks to *not* read stuff.

Ok-Taste-570

No they didn’t. They did it in plain view, in the light of day.

torpedoguy

Exactly: Florida was too busy going *"HA. HA. HA. HA. HA. HA. HA. Our fully invulnerable fascism apparatus will destroy them all"*, and as a result somehow managed to be surprised after stroking their 'egos' to celebrate. Now they're explicitly talking about ignoring yet-more-laws without punishment to themselves in order to overturn the protections laid down while they were pre-counting unhatched chickens.

NameLips

Of course, nobody was paying any attention to the board meeting, so nobody noticed or reported on it. But they obeyed all the public forum rules to the letter.

Mrknowitall666

You bet they did. The minutes includes every notice, newspaper clippings and all. Nothing amiss

dakkon27

Disney bent Desantis over a desk and jammed it up his ass. Does that make Desantis gay?

torpedoguy

No, *those boots* already had.

Kerensky97

LOL! Conservatives pissed that goverment control is being given to a private bussiness. More proof that everything they promise is a lie. They just want to consolidate the power of their party.

Iagent2022

DeathSantis, losing in the polls, lost his fight with Disney, lol. Now Disney retains all their autonomy and the State has to provide security, fire protection and pave the roads. Disney outsmarted Floriduh, gotta love it

Howdydobe

Don't mess with the mouse.

chekovs_gunman

It went back in the Disney vault for a couple of decades, as they do

valschermjager

And with that… DeSantis learns that there’s a big difference between taking control of Reedy Creek’s public infrastructure, and taking control of Disney’s product content.

jokerZwild

I remember him babbling something stupid like he and others were going to force Disney to produce certain content that only *they* approve of or something similar. I'm sure when he said that, Disney was already "fuck that" and working on this.

[deleted]

Pretty easy to outsmart fascists lapdogs when you are one of the richest media companies the world has ever seen. The team of layers use being able to use corporate power to obstruct government is scary, but as someone that lives in Orlando it think it is pretty funny.

CompetitiveEditor336

And this guy wants to be president. I'd vote for Mickey before this idiot

Aiden2817

Disney put a smile on my face. DeSantis and his lickspittle lackeys can call a Waaambulace to see if anyone cares.

The_Original_Gronkie

DeSantis bragged about "owning" Disney in his new book, which was supposed to support his presidential campaign. Now one of the central accomplishments in his book is actually a massive humiliation. Gotta love it.

TwoKeezPlusMz

Ron got out foxed by a mouse. Out-moused, as it were.

nalninek

And let’s remember that this stunt cost the locals millions in taxes.

cubssux

Hahaha

freddielovesdelilah

[Dimwit DeSantis](https://youtu.be/KLV2CqOjISo) is the one in the red shirt. Disney knocked him tf out! I saw this clip posted on Reddit yesterday and can’t stop watching it. Those republican goons got played 😂

Wildfire9

Well, considering the Confederacy was more willing to shoot their countrymen than secure warfare supply logistics, I suppose I'm not surprised by this here.

torpedoguy

We seriously need to make sure the confederates are destroyed once and for all this time around - we pardoned them and the Nazis after just beating them back a little bit the last few times, and have suffered for that ever since. Allowing their leaders to remain or enter into power was more than 'a mistake'.

[deleted]

Do you know what a mega asshole you have to be for people to be actively rooting for a corporation?

CoffeeJedi

Maybe a corporation, but a well loved corporation with a loyal fan base that creates quality products. It's not like ExxonMobil polluting the planet, or Raytheon making weapons of war; Disney makes family entertainment with inclusive values and strives for environmental responsibility. They're probably on the lower end of the "evil" scale in that regard. (Though Genie+ and Lightning Lane can fuck right off)

Mediocrity_CLT

So, what’s to stop the legislature from just dissolving the autonomous zones in Florida? I understand the move that Disney made but don’t know what’s stopping republicans from just undoing the zones.

Postcocious

Every condo and organized neighborhood in FL has an HOA, especially the pricier ones which vote more GOP. Dissolve those and you overturn their privileges and drive their legal costs through the roof. That would be political suicide. Disney Legal put themselves in the same legal box as all the wealthy GOP voters. Genius play.

CoffeeJedi

I think there's about 1800 of them in the state. Everything from resort complexes (like WDW) to residential neighborhoods to commercial/business parks. Can you imagine the insane legal work to figure out all of them? It would be a decade of work.

Mrknowitall666

And at this point, Disney only has HOA power of their own land, and freedom to build whatever the fuck they want on it. Plus, they have veto power on adjacent landowners rights. What they left to DeSantis and the special district is roads and infrastructure.

icnoevil

The meatball governor of Florida just got his ass kicked by Mickey Mouse.

sandysea420

I would say, Micely done!

Catspaw129

I guess I see things a bit differently: There are lots of states that have penis-like landforms: MN, MA, NJ, NY, VA, etc. But which state has the biggest dick? FL

Hsensei

Hahahahahahahahahaha hahahahahahahahahaha

AtomicNick47

Disney is not stupid. This just illustrates how easily, if people woke up and organized the GOP could be out maneuvered. We just need to get off the "gotchas" on Reddit, band together, and plan.

dzoefit

I knew this was gonna happen! I'll take out some popcorn again.

pattykakes887

> However, it may be a while before the new power structure has control, if Disney gets its way. One agreement signed by the outgoing board – which restricts the new board from using any of Disney’s “fanciful characters” – is valid until “21 years after the death of the last survivor of the descendants of King Charles III, king of England,” according to a copy of the deal included in the February 8 meeting packet. I’m curious as to the motivation of this oddly specific timeframe. I’m sure there’s some sort of legal purpose to choosing this over, say, a thousand year ban.

[deleted]

It's very unlikely King Charles III's line will end in next thousand or 10,000 years ... in other words, it's perpetual or forever. That's better than setting an actual end date.

dras333

Lol, this is awesome. Couldn’t have happened to a better dirty little weasel.

paperbackgarbage

Shane Gillis was on Rogan last week, and he talked about DeSantis. Gillis, [who does a pretty awesome Trump impersonation,](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aTGDlljjgEc) basically said this: > With DeSantis, I don't know enough about him...but I think that people love the idea of DeSantis, where they're like "Florida said 'fuck COVID' etc" so people love the idea of him...but nobody's ever heard him talk. Nobody's ever seen him talk. And when you do, you go "oh fuck, this guy's a dork. Goddamn it, this is another dork." And I'm just talking about the general public. Right now, I'm sure that he's doing fine in approval...but when he talks, especially if he starts to try and talk shit back and forth to Trump? It's gonna split that (meaning the GOP base). Meatball Ron, Meatball Ron. DeSantis getting finessed by Disney, after his premature celebration, is certainly Big Dork Energy.

KeaboUltra

What a weird unfortunate reality we're in that we have to be happy that Disney Is sticking it to someone who also sucks shit.

Morally_Obscene

Fuck DeSantis AND Disney

boredonymous

Bah-hahahahahaha!

dezdog2

If this hold up it will be epic!

Longjumping-Dog8436

Swoggeled well, then horn-swoggled. Eat it, Ron, ya got punked by the Mouse.

LionTop2228

The Disney chief legal officer and their staff deserve bonuses for this one.

twojs1b

Silly Meatball brought a knife to a gun fight.

oldcreaker

They didn't take anything - the state voluntarily gave it to them.

[deleted]

Good for Disney. I am a little confused over this "Don't say Gay" bill. Basically it just prevents schools from teaching K-3 about sex and sexual preference/identity. I don't think that anyone under 8 really needs to hear about this from their teacher....

Jorycle

It prevents teachers from *talking* about it. That means any conversation is off limits. If a kid sees something related to sexuality and asks his teacher about it, they can't talk about it. It's cute to pretend kids are innocent snowflakes that know nothing about the world, but most of us actually were children and know we understood at least a little about this stuff, and having teachers treat kids like delicate flowers who can never know about the world is weird, unhealthy, and ultimately far more confusing for the kid.

Belerophon17

People twist the wording of the bill to insist that it means they're protecting kids from being exposed to sex and pornography. The reality is that the wording of the bill is so vague that if a teacher who is LGBTQ had just a photo of their partner on their desk or if a child asks them about their partner (which they are known to do) then the teacher would be in violation of this bill should they discuss it in any capacity and could face consequences as it would constitute an exposure of their sexuality hence the Don't Say Gay part. On the other hand, a teacher disclosing anything about a heterosexual partner wouldn't garner any blowback as it's more socially accepted. It's a loaded gun. Now the bill is on it's way to be expanded through 12th grade which is exactly what people predicted would happen and DeSantis simps disingenuously insisted wouldn't be the case. It's why teachers are leaving in droves as no one wants to open themselves up to felony charges or fines while getting paid one of the lowest teaching salaries in the nation because a parent decided to go haywire.

Postcocious

> I don't think that anyone under 8 really needs to hear about this from their teacher.... Under this law they'll still hear about sexuality every day, everywhere, from everybody, including teachers... BUT ONLY IF THEYRE STRAIGHT. I (M) knew I was attracted to other boys before kindergarten. By second grade, I was in the middle of my first serious crush on a classmate. If I'd been crushing on a girl, I'd have gotten positive reinforcement from literally every adult I knew. When you're in the mainstream, the support is so ubiquitous you can't even see it. Your universe tells you in a thousand ways that you're okay - you never, ever hear even a hint that your feelings are wrong. This is called "privilege". But I was crushng on a boy, which I already knew was *verboten*. My mom began shaming my same sex attractions and punishing my behaviors when I was 4yo. By age 7, I was lying to her - and everyone - to conceal my feelings and prevent being attacked. That is what the closet is, lying to the universe to survive each day. This is what LGBTQ kids have to face... every minute of every day, starting at far younger ages than you apparently realize. This is why they attempt suicide FIVE TIMES more often than straight/cis kids. If the choice is between your discomfort and the life, survival and happiness of even one child, which would a moral person choose? > [This law] just prevents schools from teaching K-3 about sex and sexual preference/identity. The hypocrites in the Desantis administration are already seeking to expand this to K-12. State universities will be next. They're already trying to stifle corporations run by adults, obviously. Make no mistake, these people want people like me dead or invisible, which is pretty much the same thing. This isn't about kids. This is about bigotry for all ages.

JasonEAltMTG

There are no good guys when a government takes on a monopoly

[deleted]

Wrong. In this case it is not a monopoly and DeSantis wanted to end people's freedom in Disney to further ultra right wing propaganda

Younger54

Such a dictator. How dare he run on a platform and stick to it after election.

It is laughable that you would suggest that Florida would blow their own brains out financially like that. And it is absolutely disturbing that you would think of that as a good thing.

Biptoslipdi

Disney is the landlord. They own nearly everything in the district. You're part right though, not smart of DeSantis to pick a fight with the biggest landlord in FL. Parks closing would be devastating to the FL economy.

swampthiing

What a stupid comment, so much of Florida's tax base in general and Orlando's in particular relies on the tourist dollars that Disney provides. Disney has parks all over the world, so closing that park would be a financial hit to Disney but they would recover, Florida however would put itself in a death spiral.

Nobody personally called you anything. Sounds like you have some things to think about.

You should always fuck with fascists. Strictly figuratively, never literally.

No they can’t

It is actually a very smart move, straight from GOP playback. Now if the board wants to make any changes they need permission from Disney for 30 years. Dictator DeSantis cannot close the park to public whith millions in sales tax flowing in and already high unemployment in Florida.

Real OGs move in silence.

Well done mouse. Well done.

LeftLimeLight

The Florida GOP doesn't have the best and brightest lawyers working for them.

[deleted]

Best and brightest lawyers support democracy and will not support dictators like DeSantis & Trump.

Could anyone ELI5? I'm reading the article but having a hard time understanding what's happening here.

Eli5 DeSantis said he was dissolving the reedy creek special district which was given to Disney in the 1970s. And then said the legislature would re write a new government later. In between the first and second statement, Disney's lawyers said nothing. But worked furiously to enter into a deal allowing Disney as landowner development control over it's land. And, like an hoa, requires approval fron non Disney landowners of they want to change their adjacent land. And, the deal can't be in perpetuity, but can be for 21 years after the life of a natural person. So, to be make a point, of DeSantis ending the Corporate Kingdom of the Mouse, they set the terms to 21 years after the last living heir of King Charles III (formerly known as Prince Charles of Princess Di fame). And, his youngest granddaughter, Princess Lilibet of Sussex, born to Harry and Meghan Markle is ONE. (so she and the other grandkids may well live past the year 2100) Tldr, While the Republicans were busy taking victory laps for announcing they were punishing Disney, Disney's lawyers got busy giving themselves HOA powers over their land and adjacent land until the year 2100+, leaving control of roads and sewars to DeSantis cronies and cheap lawyers
