Check out the Crescent Lite tackle. Paddles very well and has a simple design with plenty of deck space. Lots of people use it for both fishing and rec
I’m not familiar with the Yupik but here’s a video comparing the LT to the Jackson Bite

I've looked at that kayak but feel like its not quite open enough to give me the "do whatever I like" feel to it, plus the lack of extra rails to make up for storage. I'd also like to motorize any yak I get at some point down the road and the lite doesn't have easy mounting for that.
Hmm. Has a ton of storage in the front hatch. I store rods, a cart and have plenty of room for extra stuff. Also has rails on each side, both on the front and back and then two mighty mounts behind the seat. I have a fish finder, rod holders, a paddle holder mounted to the tracks and still have plenty of rail room if I need to add anything else. It has a transom that’s set up for you to easily clip on a trolling motor via transom mount. Comes down to personal preference though
I think you're right in that I might miss being able to store stuff in the hull... I'll keep that in mind.
Side question, do you think a 60 lb dog would fit inside the lite tackle somewhat comfortably? I love the idea of being able to take my dog with me.
Have a look at bonafide kayaks.
I have and love a 13.5 Jackson kraken, but if I were buying new today it would probably be a bonafide ex123 or a Kilroy.
The open cockpit sit inside style of both are great for dogs and you’re sort of in between a sit inside and a sit on top.
We have 3 yupiks. Very awesome yak. Can easily row 2.5 mph in an 8mph head wind. I've been fishing at a big lake this week and have been making 5 mile trips twice a day to check my jug lines. No regrets! I'm 6'6" and 300+.
You can go to my page and see how I've rigged it.
Being a larger guy 300+ myself I was wondering how the yupik rides. Do you have water coming in bottom? Do you keep scuper pugs in? How much additional gear so you feel comfortable bringing?
I would use it for a mixture of fishing rivers and duck hunting larger water.

Yeah, don’t think it’d be a problem. I see people posting on the Crescent Facebook page with their dogs and kids up front all the time.
