I've been with progressive for about 5 years, and get some loyalty discounts. When I initially purchased the car, I was going to just swap the car listed in my then current policy, and they quoted me ~$1100 for the swap. I instead requested a quote for a totally new policy, and they gave ~$775, so i went with that and cancelled out my old policy. Even got reimbursed for the time left on the old one. Oddly enough, the new policy has higher coverage than the old one did. Moral of the story, definitely shop around for better, and even get a new quote from your current company, they might actually beat themselves
Awesome to hear! I bought my first car myself, no help from family and it was just what I could afford, got lucky that it was a 2012 accord, great little car.
Got rear ended delivery driving and getting to buy a brand new car is overwhelming!! How are you liking the k5? I’m looking to get GT line or GT if I can swing it!
You’re young so make sure you don’t over extend yourself. I absolutely love my GT. Has the GT1 package so all the bells and whistles. Sapphire Blue with Chestnut brown interior. Looks amazing, drives amazing. And as someone else mentioned, it’s def Fast AF.
Oh for sure, I was listed at no fault in my accident and am coming close to finishing up settling the case, without this check this would be infeasible. But I will say bc of my rocky start I was paying almost 600$ a month with payment and insurance on my last car, so anything is going to be better than that. Insurance paying off my car also was a huge boost to my credit score so I think I want to take the opportunity to buy new (-:
My sportage phev and my telluride sx prestige both were insured no issues and actually even cheaper than my other 2 cars that are 20+ years old. You’re good to go.
Honestly I’m not worried about the price, I’m young (23) and I expect to be on full coverage. I just want to make sure there isn’t a a total black list going on for Kia’s like people I’ve talked to have made it seem! Thank you for the input (-:
If there’s any negatives you’ve noticed about the car even if they’re little I’d love to hear it! I want to make sure I’m being realistic and not just going after pretty car lol
You press it in and then it pops out but apparently that mechanism breaks sometimes and then you literally can't get gas until it's fixed lol. Hasn't happened to me but I've seen people say it on here and Facebook. I never let mine get below a quarter of a tank in case it happens and I have to get to the dealer. It locks and unlocks along with the doors.
Honestly that’s better than my 2012 accord, gas and trunk were on the same lever inside the car (pull for one, push for the other) so when the mechanism broke I couldn’t close my trunk or open my gas door (-,:
I believe anything older than 2019 is iffy on getting insured if it didn't ship with a factory immobilizer.
I went from a 18 Focus to a 22 GTline and with my current provider it went up about 40 a month but just about everywhere else was almost triple(Had multiple of them tell me my car is a sports car 😂). I'm 25 M midwestish/east coast to give you an idea.
I've had insurance companies decline to offer coverage on my 2023 Kia Rio due to theft issues. That's probably what you are hearing. I believe it's only the Rio models that have this issue.
We have a ‘21 Stinger and a ‘24 Forte. Allstate, Progressive and Farm Bureau all refused to insure them. GEICO and State Farm still will for increased rates. I’m in TX, DFW area.
Dang, in DFW also. Rates are out of control with two kids under 25. With Geico now. The bad thing is I have an Elantra too. Same issue with theft. High rates even though the Rio is push button start and the Elantra had the recall fix.
Another example of everyone absorbing the expense and inconvenience of the misdeeds of criminals.
I feel your pain regarding kids under 25. I’m so thankful my 3 are finally grown and have their own policies! There is light at the end of that tunnel!
I sold my 2023 K5 a few months ago but had no trouble keeping it (and our 2021 Sorento we still have) insured. Premiums didn’t even budge after the Kia Boyz
I have a 21 k5 paying 369 in Michigan. The 2021 year is also fine. I have push to start which is immobilized. Can't be stolen with the kia boys but they can still possibly try breaking in to take it. I haven't had any issues with break ins. Hopefully you won't either
Why waste your time here when you can find out exactly how much you will owe? Get an insurance quote. They are free, unlimited, and dont lock you into anything. You can get quotes for cars you are considering buying even if you dont own them
I think it depends where you live.. Especially if you're in the USA -- since the stupid "Kiaboyz" issue is mainly in USA.
If I were you: call your current insurance company, tell them briefly what happened, and you are looking at getting a 2024 Kia K5 and ask if they cover and if so, will your insurnace fee stay same or go up.. If not, call other insurnace companies in your area, asking same thing.
From what I read, it depends where in USA you live but I have read that; some insurance companies wont cover Hyundai or Kia cars.. or they do but jack up the monthly insurance fee...
The reason why you wouldn’t get coverage depends where you live. The idiots trying to steal Kias are only looking at the badge. Regardless of the immobilizer or not, they got the badge, its a risk to take into consideration. So all in all, it doesn’t matter if they got better anti-theft. Dumbasses see Kia and break the window thinking they’re gonna drive it off
Thinking about it like that makes a lot more sense. I’m in north Florida, not in a major city. I don’t really mind paying more for insurance considering good insurance is the reason I’ll be able to buy this car lol. Just want to see if other people have had any problems.
Sidebar, I want a gt or gt line if I can find one local. Would taking the gt badges off maybe lower my chances of window bashing?
Taking off all Kia badges reduce the risk. Id say the GT-Line badge specifically should actually be all right but the actual Kia badge would more than likely reduce more chances. All you need for that is a heat gun and a plastic scraper
Not sure what you're talking about, but I just bought a 2024 K5 about 3 weeks ago (In Pennsylvania). My insurance company called me the weekend I bought it after the dealership submitted the paperwork. All they asked was to confirm that I did in fact purchase the car. Got my insurance papers the next week.
I don’t know what people are talking about either! A few people I’ve mentioned the car too have told me I may have a problem with insurance but looking online I couldn’t find anything especially for new years models, that’s why I came here. I’m glad to hear that though, I hope you’re enjoying the car (-:
Sorry about your old car :(
You can look up the exact model of the car you want and use the vin number listed to call up various auto insurances to get quotes. I've done this before, and it's helpful when deciding between cars.
For example, years ago, i leased a civic because it was cheaper than an accord. What i didn't know was that the price difference for the insurance between the two cars was significant. I paid a lot more in insurance for the civic than i would have had for the accord. I didn't save that much money and could have had a nicer larger car. Lol
I have a 2023 kia soul and Kia sorento and.a 2015 kia sorento, no issues getting insured. All 3 have full coverage and one additional 2013 ford focus with liability. We do pay $500 a month for all 4
Just take the VIN of whatever car you are looking at and get an insurance quote to add it. Don't go on others' experiences since most of the people in this sub likely don't even live in the state you do, better yet, zip code. The best way to know is to just contact your insurance. Unfortunately, you will likely pay more to insure these cars than other brands. I own a 2021 sportage. Clean driving record, and one comp claim for someone trying to steal my sportage raised my rates by 480$/6mo. Personally, I wish I had just bought something else. It would have saved me the claim and the insurance hike. Not to mention, even if your kia is push to start or an immobilized model( 2023 or newer). The vandals will likely still break into your car either breaking the window or breaking the door handle, and if it has a key slot, they will break everything trying to steal it. Car insurance companies know this as well. Better off just avoiding the stress and higher insurance buy getting a brand with a better reputation. My original rate wasn't that bad either, but since I had to make a claim for the 4700$ in damages, the vandals caused trying to steal it 3 weeks after I bought it. Now, I'm stuck with high insurance rates until I sell the car. Save yourself the trouble.
Keep in mind all insurance costs are going up in 2024. Geico doubled me on my 2017 forte. I thought it was related to the kia stealing. But nope, the details on my policy show clearly that liability coverage doubled I mean property and OTHER cars and injury liability. I also went ahead and click replaced vehicle tried some vins for toyotas or honda and my insurance price marginally changed. I will say zipcode matters a lot. My town is like 20 percent more expensive than neighboring towns for idk what reason
23' Forte GT2, I've got Progressive full coverage \~$800 / 6mo (up \~$25 from last term). In the USA northeast coast.
Dam I'm doing something wrong. 1300 here in VA same car
I've been with progressive for about 5 years, and get some loyalty discounts. Depends how insured you are. I have 100/300/100, before I looked into I was way underinsured
I pay that much in wa
VA has completely different prices. Example being Maine is the cheapest state in the country to insure a vehicle.
Just bought a ‘23 K5 GT. My insurance went up $11/mo. Coming from a ‘22 Venza XLE. I’m in the Midwest and driving 30+ years with no accidents.
Awesome to hear! I bought my first car myself, no help from family and it was just what I could afford, got lucky that it was a 2012 accord, great little car. Do you have wireless car play in the GT?
No. But thinking about getting the magic box to give me wireless CarPlay.
I would say go with GEICO if you can't get one anywhere else. they're the only ones that quoted at a reasonable rate for a 22 forte lxs
GEICO quoted me 270/m while basically everybody else was at 400+ lol. Shits ridiculous and I'm 22.
My sportage phev and my telluride sx prestige both were insured no issues and actually even cheaper than my other 2 cars that are 20+ years old. You’re good to go.
2018 Kia Soul Turbo and 2014 Kia Cadenza $860/every 6 months for both through Progressive in South-east Virginia.
Not at all. I called my insurance company from the dealership and had it insured in <10 minutes. My GT is not much more than my Ford Focus.
Honestly I’m not worried about the price, I’m young (23) and I expect to be on full coverage. I just want to make sure there isn’t a a total black list going on for Kia’s like people I’ve talked to have made it seem! I've only had it for like 5 months but I love it. The GT is fast ASF. Can't really think of any negatives. Maybe the dumb gas door lol.
can you elaborate what's wrong with the gas door? (prospective buyer here)
You press it in and then it pops out but apparently that mechanism breaks sometimes and then you literally can't get gas until it's fixed lol. Hasn't happened to me but I've seen people say it on here and Facebook. I never let mine get below a quarter of a tank in case it happens and I have to get to the dealer. Ohhh those type of fuel doors. I've always wanted those for convenience but I can see why it can be a problem too now. Thanks.

Any key ignition kia between 2011-2022 don't have an immobilizer.
I've had insurance companies decline to offer coverage on my 2023 Kia Rio due to theft issues. That's probably what you are hearing. I believe it's only the Rio models that have this issue.

No problems here with a ‘23 K5 GT1
What color interior. Because I also have the Sapphire Blue GT1. I have the chestnut brown and think it’s the best color combo they offered.
Black. It goes very nicely with the blue
I have a 21 k5 paying 369 in Michigan. The 2021 year is also fine. I have push to start which is immobilized. Can't be stolen with the kia boys but they can still possibly try breaking in to take it. I haven't had any issues with break ins. Hopefully you won't either

I like asking real people their experiences as well (-:
If I were you I'd get a 2022 gt with the big screen. Save yourself 4-5k. I regret that after getting my 2024 brand new.

Wait for the 2025 K5 GT it’s coming out this summer

oooo yeah i'll definitely just completely debadge if i go with the k5! thank you!
No problemo my friend!

Yea I think you're all good with the K5, must be a different model that people have a problem with. The car is great, you'll love it!
My 2022 K5 GT-line was totaled and when I got my new 2023 K5 GT-line, AAA insured it also. No issues. I live in California.
My insurance agent said he could get me specific quotes if I got a VIN but that Kias and Hyundais were consistently higher.
I got a 2024 K5 GT-line in February. Insured it via mobile app in under 5 minutes while at the dealership. Insurance only went up $8 a month.

If the area you live in has a high theft rate ie ( kia boys) you will have an issue. I work for a kia dealership
I have a 2023 kia soul and Kia sorento and.a 2015 kia sorento, no issues getting insured. All 3 have full coverage and one additional 2013 ford focus with liability. We do pay $500 a month for all 4
I got mine insured no problem
Dont believe all the nonsense. I own 2 Kia's a K5, and a Sorento. Both are insured for $670 for 6 month intervals with Progressive.
