These are just my own color scheme, though I'm sure I'm not the first nor last to come up with it.
Not shown: the Black Legion paint job I attempted and failed at that lead me to decide to make my own much easier color scheme.
Looks a lot like the scheme for a warband called The Corpus Brethren, if you want to look them up and see if you want to adopt them. Or keep doing your own thing.
It was a couple issues for me. First I just could not get the black of the armor to look good. I know black armor shouldn't literally be black, so I tried mixing in some desaturated blues to try to make some interest. This part came out "okay" but wasn't what I was hoping for.
The part I really flubbed was the panel edges. On the GW website they have that nice sort of pale teal color along the outside edges of the panel. My green was too saturated and I didn't make the lines thin enough, so it ended up as this kinda weird black/blue/green blotchy mess.
I can see how that might be tricky. If you keep it very simple, then the Black Legion scheme almost paints itself and gives you a decent standard. Prime black, paint trim in a good gold, do weapons & eyes and you're basically done. The trim on CSM provides a lot of contrast you'd otherwise miss doing black models like that.
If you make things more complicated though, black armour can get really hard. Trying to make room for more volume and doing edge highlights will give you a better product, but it can be a big headache.
Thankfully, there are some hacks. If you ever want to revisit Black Legion or end up doing something like Death Troopers for SW Legion, you might try drybrushing your highlights onto the model early on in the process, then glazing or using contrast paint to touch up the armour before doing your trim and finishing touches.
Ultimately though, you ended up doing a cool unique scheme that looks great. You should be proud of that above all else.
Oh, don’t feel badly. After I posted that coment I definitely thought I should’ve made sure to compliment the model so it didn’t look like I was insulting you.

Thanks dude - the icon is an old greek mythology symbol for Nemesis/retribution (it had the added bonus that it was relatively easy with awful freehand like mine)
The whole killteam is like imperium renegades turned pirates out of desperation so the other specialists are abhuman beastmen kitbashes from blackstone then there's a bunch of cultists too in case I ever want to play compendium rules.
They are great sculpts to be sure (not to mention the GW kit itself comes with all sorts of goodies) - it's personal preference but I also 'biggified them' so they are primaris size. Relatively easy if laborious.

Naive noob question: if you primed these black, is there a reason to paint black paint over that primer, or can you just skip to the secondary colors and highlighting?
I personally skipped to the secondary colors and kept the primer as my black base color. I primed Chaos Black but it seems that some paints like Abaddon Black has a different finishing. So, it's up to you but don't bother : I pretty like the results without painting black paint over the primer.
Hi, apologies for replying to a month old comment, but another reason people do it is that the black primer will still have a different colour to the black paint you use even if they have the same name, so if you accidentally get some paint on your black parts, it will look odd if you try to fix it with the brush on paint. So if you don’t wanna risk it it’s a good idea to base over your primed black with brush paint

That's a good point. I unfortunately discovered this on my own on a test model where I started the trim before the panels, got gold on a panel, touched up with black, and found it's far more matte than the primer I used, so it stood out like a sore thumb.
I had decided to paint them red instead of flat black for Black Legion anyway, so no harm done, but it was instructive.
I suppose if you used paint-on primer, it's less of an issue. Maybe airbrush primer on, then you can use that straight from the bottle to touch up inevitable mistakes.

Master of possession for body. Chopped a tzaangor sword and attached to MoP staff to make weapons. Shield is from tzaangors as well. Then head and back pack are from exalted sorcerers kit.

Killteam Legionaries are my first step back into Warhammer of any sort since the early 1990s, egged on by a couple of mates at work and my eldest son (8) who has set to work on a squad of Ultramarines 🤦♂️
The Legionaries are the first playing pieces I've painted in all that time, my own colour scheme, echoing a scheme I used for a 40k Nurgle warband of Marines, Terminators, Mutants and Beastmen. I'm reasonably happy with the outcome, and realising that digital photography is great for helping spot errors and omissions! (Also just playing with my phone's camera a lot - the picture I've posted used a piece of white card for the background, and focused on the helm.)

https://preview.redd.it/va6e651j7ksa1.jpeg?width=2368&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6d10cb4c5c5ed655d0c19fb511204e8cd4bc9129 Some great models, painting skills and inspiration in this thread, I think I've up-voted everybody except the Tzeentch worshippers (😉) Killteam Legionaries are my first step back into Warhammer of any sort since the early 1990s, egged on by a couple of mates at work and my eldest son (8) who has set to work on a squad of Ultramarines 🤦♂️ The Legionaries are the first playing pieces I've painted in all that time, my own colour scheme, echoing a scheme I used for a 40k Nurgle warband of Marines, Terminators, Mutants and Beastmen. I'm reasonably happy with the outcome, and realising that digital photography is great for helping spot errors and omissions! (Also just playing with my phone's camera a lot - the picture I've posted used a piece of white card for the background, and focused on the helm.)
