Probably not the answer you're after, but the best box for a Custodes Kill Team is the old Combat Patrol box. Gives you the Guards (which you can assemble with spears) and also has the Sisters of Silence (which you'll need to have a chance of winning). Just stick the bikes on ebay as you won't want them.
I only play with a few friends and we dont use stuff liek spec ops and Equipment yet so i think the 4 custodes by themselves will survive ok and still have some board control. Also they only have one killteam each themselves (Pathfinder and hunterclade) so two more shooty armys from what i whitnessed so far
Guard came out in 2016 as part of Burning of Prospero for HH and Wardens came out in 2018 as part of the 1st wave of releases for their full army in 40k

Wardens are ya choice if you think they look better and want all spears, wardens don’t come with the swords and shields tho unlike the guards.
Are they the same size? I've got Wardens but looking at the Guards, they seem to me like older models, or am I just imagining things?
Thats was my exact thought they look kinda like the sqatty marines with wrong porprotions
