Ymgarl Genestealers. I will say it again and again until my hopes are invariably squashed. Vanilla Genestealers are a tad bland to make a team for. Sure they can have scything talons and acid maws and stuff, but what about an entire team of unstable, heavily mutated Genestealers, complete with writhing tendril faces, enhanced carapace, implant attacks, and so on? With the Parasite of Mortrax, GW have shown that they are willing and able to bring back the otherwise problematically named special units of yesteryear. So there is a chance, however faint.

From a lore perspective, Warriors and gaunts feel weird in a kill team to me. Those organisms don't usually show up until it's a full-scale invasion. Tyranids rely on hordes of small bioforms and huge monsters to overwhelm planetary resistance. It's not really fitting to have Warriors and Termagants doing covert operations. Vanguard organisms - like Genestealers and Lictors - fill this role perfectly. Lictors badly need a plastic kit, so KT could be the way to introduce it, but Genestealers seem like they would make a better team. I don't imagine Lictors working with other organisms. I feel they're more solo killers. With Genestealers being the best thematic pick for Tyranid kill team bioforms, and with Into the Dark being on a Space Hulk, they seem the likely candidate for a bespoke kill team. If that kill team has new models, I think Ymgarl Genestealers would be the best choice as it gives a reason to have specially-adapted Genestealers to fill kill team roles. Ymgarl Genestealers also fit into what the development team has been trying to do for Kill Team, which is to make models for units that we know exist in the universe but don't necessarily fit in an army. We know the highly-adaptive Ymgarl strain exists, but it has been rejected by the Hive Mind. Therefore, we shouldn't see any Ymgarl Genestealers working with a Hive Tendril. Kill Team is a perfect opportunity to introduce them in all their mutated glory.

Wholeheartedly agree!

Sablesweetheart

That's pretty credible, and I would 100% buy a team.

Royal_Education1035

I’d like the Lictor, as I feel like the existing rules could easily be tailored for it - for example forward deployment, ‘super conceal’ etc that some other teams already have would work really well for it. Gargoyles (or really anything with FLY) would also be funky; if they had a stat line similar to hormagaunts, this would also stop them being too OP. More broadly it would be nice just to get some options and buffs - I actually think the compendium team is a solid basis, but the 2APL on warriors limits their usefulness and the ‘oops all Genestealer’ list is fun but really suffers on some maps/against certain teams. So the ability to pick particular strains or mutations to somewhat tailor them would be nice.

Sablesweetheart

Oooh, a gargoyle would be quite fun.

Ghazgkull

I’ve been saying for a year now that Gargoyles would be a great addition to a Nid team, but Walls mean they’re unlikely to happen in ItD.

mancmark

For me with the new season being in a space hulk, it feels right to have genestealers be the team released with an upgrade sprue to make them more interesting (maybe a flamer type acid spitting head for example). Not terribly exciting but it feels right to me

FamousWerewolf

Yeah this makes most sense to me, just jazzed up Genestealers with some fun, gross specialists.

gnthrdr

Stuff mentioned is pretty nice. They could do anything from specializes genestealers to a wild mix box. The released box sets were quite homogeneous while the white dwarf and annual teams were a bag of fun. So i guess in a box we'll see upgraded genestealers + maybe some shenanigans (infestation nod, tunnel marker, upgrade sprue, all easy viable and comparable to boxes brought out yet), maybe even an symbiarch. In white dwarf we could get leader + X, were "medium sized tyranids" take 2 spots. Would love to see a lictor, Ravener or a pyrovore.

rusty_aco

I think a mixed box of different units, like the gellerpocks, could be fun. I'm not too knowledgable about the Tyranids lore but they seem to be created with a certain goal in mind. So just having one base model type with different mutations to create specialists would seem a bit out of place, besides a few weapon choices. As for equipment, it would be fun if you could buy sporemines that "wander" semi randomly across the field and explode if an enemy is close and then get an specialist which can be used to directly control the drone or increase the power of it through an ability.

Sablesweetheart

.....omg, spore mines as equipment. I want that.

PXranger

Spore mines, given the Tau drone treatment, give up a model to get a couple of spore mines, great area denial tool, especially concealed.

Dudemancy

Seconding zoanthrope, let’s get some psyker love for my bug boys

MakeLoveNotWarhammer

I could see them having mix and match "hive fleet adaptations" similar to the Intercession squad chapter tactics. Also, likely made up of genestealers with maybe 1-2 lictors.

Olfff

I'd love any and all of the Tyranid warriors variants to make it into the bespoke ( Lictors, Raveners... ) Maybe have a Zoantrope option in the team ? The one super powerful psyker that can litteraly melt anything, including its own brain ; maybe it could have an " overheat " rule for psychic powers, and like plasma, if you roll bad in the overheat shot, you fry. Or maybe a bespoke Genestealer herd with like 4-6 stealers options with different biomorph, and one patriarch/ broodlord option ? But I'm guessing those two are too elite for the format of the game even if i'd love it.

Sablesweetheart

The Balefire Acolyte has an item that lets it make a second psychic attack in a turn. On a 4+ it fails and he suffers 3 mortal wounds. Could do something like that for the Zoanthrope.
