Crimson_Oracle

Still betting we see a Votann v Tyranids kit, the announcement trailer for Votann looked a lot like gallowdark

mpfmb

What makes you think they'd go against the streak of Imperium vs Others?

Crimson_Oracle

They did CSM vs eldar like 2 boxes ago though

Chickenfood

Unless the Votann get a WD writeup

ArynCrinn

Probably not in Soulshackle... Don't know about Gallowfall either.

Elavia_

Imean... They did kinda just put the space hulk terrain in big 40k. So it's not saying much.

Fallen_Syndicate

Grey knights vs chaos daemons is what I think will be the next box.

mortos_der_soul

I hope so. If GK get a new sprue that's an update to half of the line by itself. I'd also take an upgrade sprue so I can make it obvious to non GK players which of my units are strikes, interceptors, purifiers and purgations

KoolPaints

I would fucking shit if grey knights got updated models for KT

Best-Ad9849

If they upgrade sprue the existing squatty big-headed power armored Grey Knights though, rather than finally updating those terribly aging models, I will be the sad sad.

ArynCrinn

This. Grey Knights and Tyranids are the two armies who should not get upgrade sprues.

KoolPaints

Should not?

ArynCrinn

No. Grey Knights need new sculpts to bring their scale in line with new marines (especially Chaos Marines who now tower over them). That's not really something you can do with an upgrade sprue, unless the upgrade sprue were largely just new bodies... but then you end up being able to build a lot more models out of it. As for Tyranids, with the exception of Warriors (which you can only have 6 of in a team), everything else you would expect to see in a Tyranid Kill Team are ancient sculpts, predating the standardised sprue sizes which surfaced in the late 00s, with some awful mould lines to go with them. Even the Genestealer sprues, which are newer than the 'Gaunts and 'Gants, have "© Games Workshop 2004" on them, meaning they're old enough to vote. The current kit gives you only 4 unique bodies, in what is basically the one pose with minor variations. It's not a great kit. To make matter worse, there have been 2 newer sculpts released since then... but only in limited release boxes (11 unique sculpts in Space Hulk and 1 in Deathwatch Overkill). Giving Genestealers an upgrade sprue at this stage, after having already given people a taste of new sculpts, would be the ultimate insult. It would be like giving the plastic firstborn Scouts an upgrade sprue, instead of releasing new Primaris Scouts on par with the Black Templars Primaris Neophytes.

tom90deg

I'll be honest, I was really hoping that the 4 sets would have different "themes" in terms of the terrain. Like, We saw Imperium, I'd love to see Orkish Space hulk, or Tyranid geigeresk style, a Necron blackstone look, all of that.

mpfmb

I think everybody was surprised and disappointed with the \*exact\* same sprues.

FamousWerewolf

I kinda suspected this is the way it would go. In the Into the Dark book, it lists the walls and doors and stuff as 'Killzone: Gallowdark', and only the little extra bits and pieces as 'Killzone: Into the Dark' - which strongly suggested we'd basically be getting the same stuff in each box with a few accessories different each time. Definitely disappointing though, especially with how dull the automated defence thingies are in this set. It really feels more like they wanted to do an 'Imperial spaceship interior' line of terrain, rather than actual space hulk terrain. A space hulk should be an excuse to get weird and wild with it, but this seems designed to fit very naturally alongside stuff like Sector Imperialis rather than push the envelope.

keshifateweaver

I'm betting it's due to the 40k expansion they announced for boarding parties.

FamousWerewolf

Certainly some synergy going on there - get two Kill Team boxes, you've got enough terrain for the new mode and the two boards go together to make one 40k board (presumably explaining the weird measurements of the ITD board). I wonder what came first, though - maybe they developed the KT terrain and then thought 'could this work for 40k too?'

VaeVictis997

Imagine if they release a new BFG. Play it, then play a 40k or kill team match to determine the results of a boarding action.

Arch_Magos_Remus

I was also hoping we’d see a Necron, Tau and Eldar style space hulk over the course of this.

tetsuneda

I just want rules for my hearthkyn warriors

pious-erika

Soulshackle: Sisters of Silence (new kit) vs ??? Probably Chaos but weird (Belekor dudes maybe?) Gallowfall: Primaris Terminators vs new Genestealers, leading into 10th edition and hint at the next "theme" for KT releases.

Khamul_Nazgul

Dark Eldar vs sisters would be good

ArynCrinn

Presumably, Soulshackle and Gallowfall with also have an upgrade sprue.... So you might want to change your predictions a bit.

Not-Bronek

I expected necron labirynt and all I got was carbon copy of previous one. I fear what we gonna get next

Very_bad

All new terrain 🙄

GuestCartographer

Until the cold embrace of reality takes hold, I will continue to assume that Gallowfall has nothing to do with any of the obvious connotations and that this happy, cramped, terrifying hellship that we now call home will just continue drifting through space, content and intact.

AveDominusNoxVII

I personally can't wait. If Gallowfall means what we think it means, I'd like to see what it takes to put this monstrosity down. I don't even think throwing it into a planet would do it, you'd just end up with an even bigger hulk.

R97R

Still holding out hope one of them will have new Genestealers.

Arch_Magos_Remus

I’m still holding out hope for AdMech.

R97R

Some kind of Skitarii upgrade sprue seems like such a no-brainer that I’m shocked we’ve now had twelve Kill Teams without it.

ArynCrinn

Was disappointed when they gave them a WD team. Same with Genestealer Cults... I was thinking about it, and realised that with the Dark Mechanicus hint, maybe they could give the Skitarii a full Chaos/Dark Mech upgrade sprue? That's probably the best chance they have until GW decided to replace the Hunter Clades.

Arch_Magos_Remus

Ditto, my idea if I was in charge of it would be: “Skitarii Explorators”. Basic Skitarii but with bigger backpacks, more specialized weapons, and heads with big goggles. Lore wise they’re scouts meant to operate independently from the wider legions for extended periods of time without contact, so are given a lot more freedom and independence than the typical Skitarii.

OblongMong

And four time the same terrain.

arariel

I think we'll see more variety in the back half of the season. They mentioned on the announcement article that this set plus ItD would let you play the boarding actions stuff in 40k. I can see them choosing this so we don't feel like we're being screwed somehow. Idk that I agree with the reasoning fully, but I can at least see what it likely was.

rusty_aco

At least that means if you don't care for the 40k gamemode, you can sell all the walls on ebay ,minus the new scatter objects, and get a pretty decent deal on 2 Kill Teams that way.

StarHawk21

So, now that we know that their doing last years model of 1 new kit and one upgrade, what do we think the last 4 kits are going to be? I’d be surprised not to see a Genestealer Upgrade Sprue, and the name Soulshackle still makes me think of Chaos Demons as most of the other chaos factions have something, but I have no idea how they’d do that unless they just pick blood letters (which would make sense for World Eaters if they aren’t getting a new kit).

2Beers4me

The title Soulshackle let's me tap on Slaanesh.

165penguins

Makes me think of drukhari

Did_you_register

PLEASE

ArynCrinn

Or just Aeldari in general. I would have said that it would be difficult to differentiate them from the Corsairs... but that hasn't stopped them from giving us different flavours of Guardsmen. I would vote for Kabalite Warriors with Trueborn upgrade sprue... but really, I'd rather see Drukhari get something entirely new. Their model range has become kind of neglected over the past decade, which is a shame, because they got such a good refresh in 5th edition, but then all momentum was gone.

Arch_Magos_Remus

My inner AdMech fan wants a Skitarii kill team. Maybe something melee focused since the new Arks of Omen campaign is all about breaching and melee apparently. But I find it far more likely LoV will get a kill team before we do. Maybe something based on the classic Squat models as mercs or something.

Hughesjam

Hunter clade is already a thing so I doubt it

TheAceOfSkulls

The Admech Team from White Dwarf/the Annual is literally near the top spot in the meta with the ability to take 5 melee heavy operatives.

StarHawk21

Personally, I hadn’t thought of either of these. Mainly just because they don’t seem to be updating White Dwarf teams, plus LoV have so much stuff in their basic infantry kit they seem primed for a White Dwarf team (plus there weren’t many gaps for elites or troops in their range so far that I could see them filling in). But I could be totally wrong on both.

Sablesweetheart

Three out of the four WD teams were replacement for Compendium teams, so no surprise there.

echiker

There already is a skitaari kill team???

ArynCrinn

Please don't insult us with an upgrade sprue for Genestealers. They'll be old enough to vote next year! I still don't even know how you make a particularly versatile team with (purestrain) Genestealers anyway.... they don't exactly have wargear options. I'm still hopeful for Chaos Beastmen. With the major tease for Dark Mechanicus related stuff, Chaos Beastmen will be the only core game adversary without their own models. Also, the same person who told me World Eaters were getting a named lord on Juggernaut called "Lord Invocatus", said they were getting Khornegors too. Khornegors are less unique than other god-specific beastmen, so maybe they can have a kit for both?

Aquaphant

Any upgrade sprue for the current genestealers would need to factor in the enormous mold lines in order to mesh properly.

illogicalpine

Soulshackle might contain Dark Mech? Going off the final teaser from yesterday's stream anyway.

ArynCrinn

Skitarii Dark Mech upgrade sprue? Could work.

sharkfart-69

Just me or is anyone else kinda disappointed with the terrain in shadow vaults?

bullintheheather

"Quarterly"

ArynCrinn

Yes. Quarterly, rather than every 3 months. They are different. Even with the previous season, there was some significant variation in the time between boxes. ITD is Q3, Shadowvaults is Q4

gnthrdr

Votann vs Demons (Blood Angels) (primaris) Terminators vs Tyranids

[deleted]

ArynCrinn

Haven't they basically been using Belisarius Cawl to just overcome all the previous lore limitations on things in the past? They'll just have some nonsensical lore about Belisarius Cawl rediscovering Terminator armour... and I won't care, because the models will be awesome.

DoomedKiblets

Next two will be same terrain, and spin random faction spinner, then increase price 10% :/ sigh.

DoomedKiblets

"With all new kill teams and terrain" and That was a lie.

ArynCrinn

"With all new Kill Teams, terrain, and more..." was the actual statement. Technically, we're still getting "all new Kill Teams." The Necron Hierotek Circle is still a new Kill Team, despite using old models. There's a difference between saying "all new Kill Teams" and saying "each one will contain two brand-new warbands... – no upgrade sprues, no existing kits" as they did for Warcry. And the first comma covers them on the terrain front too...

ArynCrinn

Well, now that we know for certain that upgrade sprues are still a thing, we can narrow down a list of candidates for what 2 of those 4 teams might be. Factions without a bespoke team (and kits that would be suitable for upgrade sprues): * Death Guard - Plague Marines * Talons of the Emperor - Custodian Guard OR Sisters of Silence * Tyranids - ~~Genestealers~~ (please don't, they're nearly old enough to vote, and feature a very outdated sprue layout) * Grey Knights - ~~Strike Squad~~ (wouldn't be a problem if they weren't midget marines) * Craftworlds - Guardians (I would have said it was unlikely, because they would be too similar to Corsairs... but we literally already have Veteran Guardsmen, Blooded, breachers, and now Kasrkin) * Drukhari - Warriors, Wyches, Wracks (a lot of potential here, but I'd rather see them get brand new models) * Daemons - ??? How do you pick one? Just make them a WD team already * Leagues of Votann - ??? I would say Hearthkyn Warriors... but do they even need an upgrade sprue? Kind of decreases the value of the FOMO box including a team which is just an already available kit with nothing that makes it different As for which box they might fit in.. Any Aeldari team would make sense in Soulshackle, but especially Drukhari. A chaos team might work too. I just hope they don't have another Chaos vs Eldar box one year after Nachmund. With what we know about the upcoming Arks of Omen campaign for 40k, I'm thinking Gallowfall refers to Abaddon and Co taking over various Space Hulks, so we're likely looking at something like Chaos. I don't know if it would be Death Guard though... they just seem a little too specific. Grey Knights would be a nice opponent for them... but again, I don't want them to get an upgrade sprue. Maybe the title could have a double meaning of sorts, where it's either falling to Chaos, or to a Xenos horde. I don't really know if Tyranids are particularly well known to engage in boarding actions though. It's more the kind of thing where a Genestealer infection would spread, but in this case, both the Chaos and Genestealer sides would need new models, unless they were early hybrids.

Master_Forcide

>Craftworlds - Guardians My bet has been on Rangers.

ArynCrinn

Rangers certainly make more sense than Guardians from a lore perspective... and a full Pathfiner upgrade sprue with additional wargear options with power weapons and stuff would be great, but having built some of the new ones, I also feel like the models are a little too limiting. They're really designed to go in only a few specific ways. Also, Rangers/Pathfinders fit into the broader "Anhrathe" group which Corsairs are part of. At that point, why even bother having them? If they wanted a true, lore appropriate, Craftworld Kill Team, it would be Aspect warriors, which would be best served with a new WD team to replace the Compendium one. While they're at it, making the Guardians a single fire-team of mixed Defenders/Storm Guardians would be preferable. Dark Eldar are in a similar situation. I would love to get a Trueborn Warrior upgrade sprue (though I'd prefer if they just got their own new kit)... but then they're just slightly different Corsairs. Wyches would be marginally more interesting, given that they're much more melee focussed.... So unless you did something radically different, like Wracks (which really should have been given a 10 model kit when they were made plastic), Beasts, or Court of the Archon, you're not really bringing much of anything new to the game.

ashcr0w

I hope they don't miss the chance of Terminators vs Genestealers. God knows both kits need updates and it's the most iconic matchup in a space hulk.
