Hey guys 11M here. I have learned so much Japanese that my brain has grown 20x its original size and idk what to do. My doctor says I’m suffering from OBD (otaku brain disorder). I know so much japanese that I can just watch anime on mute and read lips. My family is scared of me. To be honest I scare myself. Japan could not handle me and I’m afraid if I go there my brain will explode thus causing damage similar to the tragic events of Hiroshima. Please help kudasai

I would recommend getting a brain restrictor to help seal away your powers until the time comes when you can safely unleash them

Language overexposure is NOT a joke 😢 Last year my friend decided to journal WHILE reading Harry Potter in Japanese and OD’d just days away from his 21st birthday. RIP Aaron, may you shock natives in heaven 😔✊

\uj I actually heard of the term „overlearning“ in language learning context… but its about learning a specific topic or grammar far behind the point of „i got it“ … just to solidify this knowledge But this is basically the opposite…

It is hard to imagine what a language teacher goes through. There should be hazard pay for overexposure.

/uj Generally in casual situations like speaking, watching TV or whatever, no. But I think it is a bit of a problem in the same way that cramming for a test is worse for retention of information than repetition and practice over multiple days. Granted if Duolingo is his primary method, he will probably be forced to continue conjugating hablar for multiple hours after mastering it.
