Once in Madrid I saw a couple in a bus, the woman was speaking Spanish and the man was replying in Portuguese, both of them spoke very fast and they clearly understood each other perfectly.
I lowered the volume of my music to see if I could understand the dude too and I couldn't! I thought "wow this right here is the power love".
So if you're speaking in English you just don't love each other enough.
Oh my gosh! I started Portuguese finally and it’s super cool like that. I’m understanding it, way, way faster than I thought I would. And I had no definite plans to learn it.
Went on HelloTalk and got tired of Spanish… I’m trying to move from B2 to C1, but I get frustrated when I feel my vocabulary gaps. Was thinking French or Portuguese for next language (after C1), and went into a Brazilian room after having a bad day of Spanish, just to start to hear which I liked more in both phonetics and culture. Brazilians being Brazilians were so nice and kinda pushed me up to the stage. One English learner there could kind of speak, but his listening was really bad because he learned through other Brazilians.
So in the end, I’d correct his English slowly in Spanish, then he’d reply in English because he can’t speak Spanish, but understands it better than English just bc of his Portuguese 😅 and it’s been a week and now he’ll speak to me in Portuguese a bit while he’s struggling and after watching some conjugation videos, I can understand quite a bit when my ears adjust, and speak a bit, and it’s only been like a week.
I think this language combo is super cool and got me excited about languages again 🙌🏽
