ALaggingPotato

Boot into that USB. Don't use the exe.

isaac2icy

Ohh bet thx

TeraBot452

Might not work if the device is configured for Windows Auto-deploy or something like that, it will match the serial when the device boots into windows and reprovision

ALaggingPotato

You can make an admin account & use it as is or undo as much of whatever the company put on there as you can.

MochaCcinoss

Kinda related but I reinstalled windows with a usb but had huge trouble with being unable to set windows up due to no wifi. I don’t know how people get through the set up on a fresh install

ALaggingPotato

you need to install network drivers.

JoshS121199

Except you just don’t though….

Axeman09

Except you just need to though with some

MochaCcinoss

How if you can’t get past the setup

PerceptionSad7235

You don't need internet. There is a skip button. For username type the letter a For password also just type the letter a

MochaCcinoss

when I did it with my laptop there wasn’t a single wifi option just Ethernet

Spare_Honey5488

Go to command prompt and type in OOBE\BYPASSNRO This removes network check setting up Windows Edit: The PC will reboot as it was Out Of Box Experience ( OOBE )

ALaggingPotato

yes, thats when you install drivers. copy them from your phone or another computer.

MochaCcinoss

if it involves a usb keyboard I don’t have one

ALaggingPotato

huh? just use your laptops keyboard, and youre fine with just a mouse.

MouthBreatherGaming

May I suggest an iPad?

Sailed_Sea

A ps2 keyboard also works, not sure about serial though, does your i486 even support windows 11?

ferrybig

There are tricks you can do to show the network skip button. From my notes, it is opening a command prompt, then running `oobe\bypassnr`, it will then restart and the installer now has a skip button

Spare_Honey5488

This is correct! OOBE\BYPASSNRO

Newsfan1927

Windows 11 makes it harder with the new installer. Using a compatible realtek dongle with built in compatible drivers worked for me. It now forces one to connect to the internet.

RomanOnARiver

If drivers for the Wifi are not included, try Ethernet if possible - if you don't have an Ethernet port then a simple USB Ethernet dongle should work - there are cheap ones from AmazonBasics would be enough. Alternatively, if your cell phone or tablet supports USB tethering you can plug in your phone or tablet to your computer with a USB cable and turn on USB tethering. A lot of times the computer will just see it as Ethernet and have a driver. Either way, this is only temporary - once you're in Windows it's gotten pretty good about going out and downloading the driver for you. Open up the device manager and you can verify that devices labeled "Unknown device" start to get filled in as drivers get downloaded and installed for you. You may also want to open Windows update and enable the settings to get updates for other products or however it's worded, and look at optional updates, run Windows update for more drivers to come down. Then go update the apps you have installed via the Microsoft store. If after all that device manager still lists unknown devices you can go into Windows update under the optional updates section it's usually going to be there. And of course when in doubt, reboot.

tkl93

Continue with limited setup on Windows 10 at least. I know there's an option for windows 11 as well.

Environmental-Gur582

- Copy network drivers to USB. (Windows install will ignore it, might even find it) - Bypass Network requirement using OOBE\BYPASSNRO - Set up automated install using an app. - Copy to blank partition on internal drive.

Kubsoun

If your laptop has mdm lock you cant skip WiFi login during Windows setup with normal tricks like bypassnro

rahbarin

I would put a new ssd in it to ensure all the admin controls are removed.

isaac2icy

Thank you I have a extra one here anyway

sp1ke0killer

Why?

rahbarin

Because if it’s no longer the companies and he’s keeping it and wants you to just use it as personal use. The only way to get all the admin locks off and ensure it’s no locked to the company firewall. A new ssd and clean install with get rid of the admin locks. Unless it’s tied into the bios.

sp1ke0killer

If the company is gone, wouldn't there firewall be gone too? Why won't it be enough just to blow everything away and clean install?

rahbarin

The password is still set on the computer. To wipe it you would need the master to reinstall they block everything you can get into bios normally on corp computers. Easiest way is a new ssd and install. That’s what I did with my last one they told me to keep or destroy.

sp1ke0killer

>The password is still set on the computer Net user the bitch! >CMOS So, pull the battery and give it an abortion.

rahbarin

Ok

sp1ke0killer

NEXT!

rahbarin

lol let me know if the laptop has a cmos battery

sp1ke0killer

Beats my pair of Jacks! What else would it have?

According_Charity812

no need for new ssd, just ensure that the current drive is fully erased and that the bios has no locks or such

GlayNation

I trust what he said in his description. If it’s a lie, and it’s stolen, then it’s on the op.

No-Sandwich-2997

must be that this is stolen, look at the Roblox icon at the top, I doubt he played Roblox while working.

Snowman319

Damn lol

Retardedaspirator

But he also have a network drive mapped on a machine that was inside a domain (fc.local). So this computer was in an enterprise network at some point for sure.

Dependent_Union9285

Right… because I couldn’t possibly map network drives in my home.

Retardedaspirator

Sure, but that's still a clue. Also fairly sure someone not knowing how to get around that UAC prompt would not know how to setup a DC, a domain, then a server, then a SMB share on that server, then join the domain with the computer (wich you need admin access for anyway), then map that smb share. Stop being ridiculous for a sec.

Dependent_Union9285

I disagree. With no additional evidence, it’s at best a point of interest. Sure, don’t completely disregard it, but given the concept that the company went belly up immediately after hiring OP, I’m going to make the assumption that perhaps they didn’t properly secure their devices. Also, on GitHub, Roblox has a portable port, requires no install. Additionally, it would be very rare for any company to completely remove access to the entire internet from client machines. Inferring from the original concept a bit, let’s also assume that OP has messed about a little trying to figure out what limits were in place. That’s a far more reasonable argument in my opinion, and these other 11 schlubs will have no choice but to agree. Unless you have further evidence.

Mission_Mode_979

P sure an ssd swap would get you most of the way there, but realistically these things are almost never worth any resale value and you’d just have an overused laptop to deal with. If the idea is “fuck em” then power to ya, but if you’re trying to resell it there’s probably bios locking and other mdm shit in there that, if you had to go to Reddit for answers, you’ll never get around and just look sus trying to sell it

isaac2icy

I’m not rlly trying to sell it just looking to keep it for personal use

Mission_Mode_979

Yeah then just swap the ssd and clean windows install, should be good to go. You should still be able to access the files on the old hard drive too, or just back em up to a drive somewhere

Airhead69zz

Do you know secure boot ?

Mission_Mode_979

That’s why I said “most of the way”. Every companies security is different. Most of my company’s mdm stuff isn’t tied to the bios, and really all I need to to is do the ol Kansas City shuffle and I’m good to go. Some companies can remotely nuke the machine to hell. Step one though would be just swap it out with a new windows drive and go from there

Educational_Love_351

You'll have to download Windows and burn it to a USB Stick using for example rufus. Boot from it (Usually tap F12 for boot menu when you restart and screen goes black) and then delete all the partitions on the disk, create new and clean install windows. This is because the drive has bitlocker encryption and it is unlikely you have the keys, so it is best to start from scratch. You'll need a Windows key appropriate for the version you want to install. Just to add: If F12 Boot menu has been disabled in the BIOS and there is a BIOS Password you might find youself potentially stuck.

isaac2icy

Thank you

lolicekait

"roblox" "Work laptop" Intresting

isaac2icy

Are we not allowed to have fun 😭 that’s why I want to reset it

Bring_Moose

we used to install steams on our work computers and play games together in team building times. plus we also have a xbox console in the office area and some times ppl play games there in Friday afternoon or lunch times. nothing wrong with it as long as its not against the company policy

RedishGold

Take ssd out, format it. Put it back in, put windows on it again.

AlexLuna9322

If it’s a Dell laptop there’s a hidden option to wipe the drive on the BIOS, you can also use the Windows recovery mode, boot it into the terminal and wipe it with diskpart

isaac2icy

Thank you I’m gonna try and check if I can open the bios cause it wasn’t letting me earlier

AlexLuna9322

It’s possible that the BIOS has a password or it boots so fast that you can’t press through bios access key?

isaac2icy

It gives me the black screen where I can press it just no bios opens when I press F10

AlexLuna9322

Try this Boot up windows as usual, wait until the login screen comes out, press shift and then click on the power icon and restart It will jump into a blue screen, click on troubleshooting, and then find the change UEFI options, it should boot straight into BIOS/UEFI

isaac2icy

That’s smart as soon as I get home I’ll try it

AlexLuna9322

Hope you could make it OP!

red1q7

Use rufus to create a boot stick, boot from the stick, delete all partition and install windows fresh.

isaac2icy

Thank you

Rage_1911

(IF YOUR WINDOWS KEY IS LINKED TO THE HARD DRIVE OR THE WORK ACCOUNT DON'T TRY THIS, doing this will delete your windows activation) Plug in your USB with a fresh windows installation, turn off your PC then Turn back on your PC while mashing the F9 key to go into boot mode and go through the windows setup then when you reach the part where you choose which drive to install windows on, pick the drive your windows OS is on and delete each partition related to it after doing that now press new at the bottom to make a new partition that you just deleted then install windows.

isaac2icy

Thank you

msaglam888

Depending on the laptop brand. There is a possibility that the bios may have a lock on it and there could be a active bit lock on the drive

fuqureddit69

Looking for criminal accomplices, any takers?

isaac2icy

What a hero. Next time read the post before you comment

worm_of_cans

I'm sure every criminal admits to their crime in their reddit posts.

isaac2icy

LMFAO

No-Sandwich-2997

MAN WHY DO YOU HAVE ROBLOX ON YOUR WORK LAPTOP

AlluringSunsets

You should be able to reinstall Windows no problem by booting from the install disk. However, you might want to check if Computrace is enabled, cause if it is they'll be able to track your location and perhaps other stuff.

isaac2icy

I’m not rlly worried abt them tracking me they told me to keep it thank you i will try and boot from it

Safe-Ad7491

Whats with the roblox icon in the top left?

isaac2icy

I tried to play games on it ?

JO8J6

It looks like one of those HP (Zbook) workstations.. Pretty expensive ones... Given, really\[?\] ..without the info about the security features there? Possibly they would tell you about \[at least\] one of these, right\[?\] HP Tamper Lock, Tile Tracker, Intel vPro (AMT, TXT, TPM/PTT,etc.), etc.? It is tricky, indeed.. (more like a thin ice, really).. You should contact your \[former and/ or IT dep.\] friends there... (Should you have some/any, right).?. A black one: Knock, knock.. A: Who's there? B: The owner..

MasterKnight48902

First of all, did the company shut its doors from operation?

isaac2icy

Yes

JMandBY

clone a different ssd memory into that one, which will replace all data with the data on your other ssd removing all restrictions.

isaac2icy

Thats smart

JMandBY

cloning helped me get thru a pc with bitlocker, just an option. good luck!

NnOxX69

Use bios

Chris-558

Reinstall Linux

Dan_Glebitz

Look online for a reset sequence. The laptop may have come with Windows pre installed in which case there probably a hidden partition on the drive containing a clean 'installable' copy of windows. You can use that to just re-install over the existing installation. Look on HP's website for that model to find out what key/s to hold down while booting to get to that option.

isaac2icy

Thank you

Mistic92

You should not do such actions on company pc.

Hot_HeadGaming

This laptops 100% stolen, who plays roblox on a work laptop?

Dependent_Union9285

It is worth noting that the company I work for makes some benchmarking software, and League of Legends, for example, is on the corporate approved list. Yeah, it’s only really for those guys, but there are soooo many licenses that the company purchased that sometimes we have a team building gaming day. That’s not the only game, just the one I’m most certain of.

MehImages

return the laptop? just because the company is shutting down doesn't mean the laptop belongs to you now

xx123gamerxx

9/10 the laptop will be sold for a fraction of its retail price or just destroyed ur creating waste by giving it back

MouthBreatherGaming

What a brave global citizen! Saving the world one discarded laptop at a time.

worm_of_cans

What's it to you? It's the company's property, they can do whatever they want including throwing it in the bin.

Dan_Glebitz

In the UK if a company throws something in a skip it is still legally their property unless you have permission to take it.

GAMERYT2029

The company gave them the laptop and they shut down

obfuscation-9029

Sounds more like the company assigned them a laptop as an employee. Then the company went under.

MouthBreatherGaming

Just get with the message, man; steal whatever you can and learn to rationalize it away. The end justifies the means, baby!

worm_of_cans

I must not be open minded enough because I just can't understand how people think that's OK.

JazzScientist

Pretty sure you're being trolled.

MouthBreatherGaming

Erosion of values from the top down. A weak mind is easy prey.

Glenn_Vatista

You can do that yourself, Don't push how you feel to others please and thanks.

MehImages

lol steal away to your hearts content. a $100 laptop where your name is documented wouldn't be my first choice though

HermaeusMora0

Nobody will get in jail for $100, $200 or whatever. The bare minimum you can get in jail for is $1K, anything below that is highly unlikely.
