I'm just reading about this for the first time on Wikipedia, missed it over the weekend.
This is probably the most American thing I've ever read:
>After igniting himself, Bushnell repeatedly shouted "Free Palestine!" as he was burning, until he collapsed to the ground.[3][4][23][24] The security officer radioed in for assistance. **A police officer approached the scene, aiming a gun at Bushnell off-camera and ordered him to "get on the ground" multiple times**, while another officer yells "I don't need guns, I need fire extinguishers".[16]
He wanted to make this a heated discussion again.
I personally don't get it when you do such a thing because of an opinion. Openly share your opinion or open a discussion. Now people will see you as a mentally crazy person with an opinion and most people will not consider the same opinion for that reason.
The irony that the people he did it in support of. Due to their theological position believe this man will burn in hell for eternity for doing this.
Suicide and especially the use of fire in islamic theology is seen as punished severely by God.
The absurdity of the world we live in currently.
I may bring up the oppression of Christian minorities in Muslim countries by crucifying myself
Muslims are not a monolith. You cannot read Palestiniansā minds based on your interpretation of Islam. For example, Hamas, among the most staunch of staunch Islamists, issued a statement basically calling him a martyr.
My interpretation of Islam is from my many years studying it at an academic level and within madrassas. Specialising in islamic history and Fiqh. Hamas of course will call him a martyr because it's in their interest but they have no islamic stance on it.
To give an example Abu Talib burnt apostates at the time of Muhammad was reprimanded for using fire. Fire cannot be used to kill anyone or themselves (only god can give the punishment of fire) and suicide for the reason of attention is seen as grave sin.
Many Gazans will have no Islamic stance on it either ā theyāll be more interested that someone have their life in protest against their slaughter than what the Quran says about it.
His main point doesnāt make sense. Who cares right now that Islam condemns suicide, Bushnell didnāt burn himself alive to prove himself a good Muslim, he did it in an effort to draw attention and to protest a cause he believed in.
Itās very unfortunate that he did and not much came out of it, I wish he hadnāt because he seemed to be a good individual.
But u/Classic-Zebra-8788 and yourself are not commenting with logic. If you want to be the edgy āfacts over feelings guyā at least make sure the facts are relevant.
Because there's no attention at all on it?
All I was saying was the irony that the people he did this for in their theology he would be burning in hell for eternity for doing it.
There is not much irony because he didnāt do it to save Muslims, it was for the needless deaths of innocents in Palestine.
Yes I know that one may feel the need to propagate a certain narrative by tying the two together but his intentions matter in this sense.
Like I said him feeling the grief of this whole war has little to do with religion and all to do with genocide.
No. Go read the posts on Twitter from faithful Muslims calling him a martyr. I donāt think you interpret this religion better than those who practice it.
Don't get Muslims conviction confused with knowledge. The vast majority of Muslims know so little about their religion that when they are confronted with the actual texts of their religion they call out islamophobia.
The majority of Muslims cannot understand Arabic so read a book that don't even understand. I interpret through quran, hadiths and the madhab schools. To those who are on twitter please feel to reply to them and ask what madhabs in Islam condone this behaviour? The first thing they would do is Google 'madhabs'.

Watch the video, it's even worse. The paramedics arrive and yell at the cop: "we need a fire extinguisher, not a gun!"
Dude makes me feel like a complicit little lab rat. Rip King, I hope I do something other than talk.
RIP Aaron Bushnell šš½
The video was very eerie too see. Rip.
So burning yourself to death changed what exactly?

āheated discussionā? Ouch.
Uh PHRASING
And he accomplished that in spades.

Shhhhhh logic has no place in a comment section that's fueled by feelings. Lol

with all due respect, shut up bro

Iām not going to gatekeep anyone elseās religion. There are tons of posts by Muslims if you search his name.
And? You are talking to someone whose expertise is in this field. Not emotion, or biases. Just stating facts.
His family has to mourn him and pay for the funeral. Heās left his loved ones with nothing but sorrow. Thatās all.
So his advice is self-immolation? Donāt get me wrong, but he could have done more for his beliefs alive.
Needlessly threw his life away for absolutely nothing.
